Chapter 1

He stops and just stares for a moment. It would have looked so peaceful in the past. The town is smaller than most places in the wasteland, but still has some signs of life. The town's name was Lone Star Town. There in the middle is a large church or cathedral with a huge sign. It says "Welcome to Lone Star Bar. Last stop to nowhere."

"I wonder if anyone's inside," he mutters under his breath.

He then proceeds to enter the town. Passing the huge sign. Seeing some resemblance of life. The townspeople walk around doing their things and take a brief look at the wandering man walking into town.

He enters the old bar and is greeted by a woman who is cleaning up tables. She seemed to be in her late twenties and had a simple beauty to her with blond hair and brown eyes. She sees that he's a man wearing body armor and carrying a gun.

She asks him "Can I help you?"

The man answers "I'm looking for a man named Eddison Musk? He has messy hair and deep eyes like mine and a nose similar to this one." the man points at his nose.

"Oh, he's not here anymore. He passed away a few months ago. You're talking to the new owner." she says while wiping off the table.

It seems the man he was looking for also owned this bar.

He remembered his father being a scientist and an inventor. He would have never imagined him owning a bar.

People change after a few years he guessed.

Ever since his mother died. Eddison his father was never the same. He neglected him and paid no attention to him.

When he was old enough he left town and became a wonder, mercenary, and all the jobs in between. The only reason he came back is that he received a message from the old man apologizing and asking him to come home.

Now he is here and it feels unreal.

He continues to talk to the woman cleaning the table. "I apologize for disturbing you. I'll go now."

"Wait!" she yells.

He turns around to see her holding a bottle of liquor.

"Here, drink this, it will make you feel better."

The wonder takes the bottle of liquor. He looks at the woman and thanks her.

He takes a seat at a nearby table as she continues to clean.

She then proceeded to give him a whisky glass for the liquor.

"I heard about your father. He was a brilliant man. I'm sure he was proud of you," she says as she wipes off a table.

"Thank you," the wonder replies. "but how did you know I was his son?"

"You're a spitting image of him, except for the nose," she laughs.

"That makes sense," he mutters.

The woman continues to clean and as she does so it becomes clear that the bar is pretty much empty.

"I always thought we had the same nose." he continues.

"So how do you know the old man?" he asks the woman as she was finishing up cleaning the table.

"He helped me when I needed money and a place to live. I didn't have a choice. So I took a job with him and worked for him for a couple of weeks."

"Don't remember the old man being generous. People change I guess." He sarcastically replies.

She just looks at him and shrugs. She then says "You should go see him. Maybe say your goodbyes."

"What for? His already dead and I'm still here. I just came back since he mentioned that he had something for me from my mother." He says after pouring a drink into the whisky glass.

The wonder takes a sip of the whiskey. It tastes awful and he grimaces.

She looks at him "He did mention that he left you something and to give it to you if ever you came home". By the way, my name is Mary Alise Claire.

"Mary?" he says while taking another sip.

"Yeah, that's what everyone calls me. But you can call me Maisie."

They continue to talk about Eddison and other things until they finished the bottle of whisky.

"Do you want more?" Mary asks.

The wonder nods "Please."

"Then let me get it." She stands up and heads towards the kitchen. The Wonder doesn't notice her butt moving and he only notices it when she returns.

When she returns she has another liquor bottle. She then proceeded to pour the bottle and sat down.

"Eddison use to talk about you a lot," Maisie mentioned.

"Really?" the wonder said as he takes a swig.

"Yes, he told me a lot about you and your adventures when you were a child. How he regrets how he treated you." she continued.

"We all regret some things in life," he said.

"I know but he wanted to make things right. He said he had something for you from your mother. But he passed away before giving it to you."

Maisie then proceeds to give the wanderer a key.

"This is the key to the bar, he gave it to you. aside from this, he has a house at the back. It is code-locked but Eddison mentioned that you would be able to open it."

The wonder then looked at her and said "Thanks, Maisie. I appreciate everything."

"If there's anything you need, ask for me. That's what I'm here for."

He stands up. "By the way, I know my dad already told you my name but I go by Vlad nowadays."

Vlad and Maisie both nod.

He leaves the place and heads to the old house. He keeps the key to the bar and then proceeds to open the door. It was the same as before. It was his mother's birthdate. Seems the old man is still sentimental he thought to himself.
