Chapter 3: Chapter 3 – Blood 2

“What do you mean?” Sera looked at me, and I could tell that she was confused. “It’s delicious!”

“Ha!?” I raised my voice. “No, it’s terrible! It’s cold and tastes like garbage!”  

“Hmmm…” Sera then thought for a moment. “So maybe you don’t like that brand? Then… how about this one?” 

The girl reached into what she called the “refrigerator” and took out another packaged blood product. “And you don’t like it cold? Alright, great great grandpa! Please wait a minute!”

“Hm… okay!” I replied. "And by the way, you can just call me Lucas!"

"OK!"

And then, Sera took the blood carton with her into the kitchen, while I waited. I heard something beep beep. Looking around, Sera’s place was really small. An apartment, that was what she called home. The walls were thin, so I could hear some humans talking loudly. I first thought that they were Sera’s slaves or familiars and such, but Sera clarified that they were just normal humans, with nothing related to her. 

And that made me incredibly confused.

Why would a vampire not live inside a castle? Why share the same living space with those lowly humans? 

Maybe Sera intentionally lived close to humans so that it would be more convenient and easier to find food? 

I had so many questions, so I guess I would have to ask her later.

Beeeeep

Another long beep sound, and Sera came back. She then handed that blood carton to me.

"Microwaved!" Sera smiled.

“Ah, it’s warm!” I received the carton, while having no idea what she just said.  It was a little too hot though, but at least this would be better than cold blood!

So, wait no further, I plucked in the straw, and started sucking.

A few seconds later...

“So, how is it?”

Sera tilted her head, looked at me with big and shiny eyes, full of hope. I could tell that she really expected me to like this product.

So, I sucked.

Ah… The blood hit my taste bud. Its texture… creamy and slimy… much like milk. I let it sit inside my mouth for a second to feel the taste.

Ah... I really didn't want to make Sera sad, but the truth was...

“PSHYUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!”

And I spitted them all out instantly!

“What the heck did you give me this time SERA!”

I yelled at her again!

“What? You don’t like it!?”

Once again, that blood fucked me up bad. And just when I was about to pop the carton out of anger, I also noticed something…

“What!!?” I yelled. My head hurt after reading all of those things. 

“Seraaaaaaaaaa!” I grabbed my dear great great great granddaughter’s shoulder, and told her “This… this is so wrong! This is unbelievably wrong! Since when blood has become so complicated!? Blood ingredients should only be one word: Blood! Fresh blood from the necks! The necks of humans! What is wrong with you!?”

Hearing that, tears started to dwell inside Sera’s eyes.

“Hic… or… maybe… you will like this brand?” Sera then handed me another blood carton. “It… it’s a bit more pricey, but really good!”

“Huh?”

I had lost all hope on blood cartons, but if Sera insisted with teary eyes like that, guess I would give it another chance.

Just one last chance!

Hmmm… 

I had to be more careful this time, so I inspected the label first. 

Hmmm…

There was a leaf symbol on it. Interesting. The ingredient list was also shorter so… maybe there was hope after all?
