Chapter 5: So it Begin

Next day

(Adam Pov)

[Hello Adam, I woke you up early as you asked]

Hello Eve and thanks for waking up said Adam smiling still pretending that he believed everything she told him yesterday and that he completely accepted her.

A lot has happened to him, too much for his tastes, a good night's sleep allowed him to cut himself off from the problem at least for a moment. Nothing like a good night's sleep, he thought. Unfortunately, the problem didn't magically disappear.

He remembered yesterday's conversation with the woman in his head. And he thought it was too much for him, he can't do it alone, he needs help,and the person he can trust with his life is only his mother. Surely something will help, thought the boy, not such a problem, she probably solved it already. Still not believing in the impossibility of their separation and possible death. Surely something can still be done. Trying to convince myself.

[Who can do what?] Ewa asked, reading his thoughts without even hiding them.

Nothing I have to ask my mom something. Adam replied without giving any indication that anything might be wrong.

Eve wasn't very smart yet and couldn't tell the truth from the lie, and for now, she can block some of what she thinks. But for how long? Adam theorized after their brief interaction. She learns quickly too fast for his opinion, must be something about it, Adam thought suspiciously, creating other thoughts that might distract her.

He got up much earlier than usual and asked Eve to wake him up. He knew his mother always exercised from this time in the morning before work to keep her body in peak condition. So they'll both have plenty of hours to deal with his problem.

He didn't change anything from the morning routine that might have made Eve sense something. Even though she'd only known him for a day, I don't know if she could read my memories. The later he finds out his intentions, the better for him. I don't know what it can do to my body. And how do you fight an enemy that is part of you? Adam was falling deeper and deeper into paranoia. Better to be safe than sorry as his mother had said many times. And this time she was right.

He quickly made his way down the stairs, wanting to get it over with. In the living room on the right side of the stairs, he saw his mother doing crunches in the hall, he didn't know which repetition it was, but certainly not the first because she was sweating all over from the exercises.

He walked over to her and started a conversation that would change how everyone in this family would see each other forever.

Mom, I have something to tell you, the boy began inconspicuously.

What's the matter, honey? asked the mother, surprised to see her son at this hour. It's not often he gets out of bed this early in the morning, and certainly not without her help.

See, I have a problem, I hear a strange voice in my head. The boy let out all the earlier nervousness.

What? cried his mother in surprise. And then she was strangely silent, surprised by the turn of events.

At the same moment, as he said it, Eve also reacted.

[Adam, what are you doing, what do you want to do? You still don't believe me and you want to get rid of me?] Eva kept asking, panicked.

Then Adam didn't listen to her anymore. He tried to ignore her for now, trying to focus his mind on something else.

Seeing that it does nothing, Ewa also fell silent, wondering what to do next.

He didn't speak either, and there was a palpable tension in the room.

 

As the two women fell silent shocked at his earlier actions each thinking of something else but more or less related to him.

No one knew about the other yet, but that will change in a moment.

 

His mother was the first to break the dead silence.

And what is this voice telling you, does it want something from you or is it telling you to do something for it? Answer me. She raised her voice to her son after a moment of reflection, she looked nervous, acting differently than usual Adam thought. Upset about what?

Nothing yet, only yesterday I found out the voice said that it is connected to my soul and if we try to separate, I will die. That's why I came to ask if you have a solution, said the boy, waiting for her answer.

It's good .. she began smiling at him disturbingly clearly calmer after his statement. Good thing you came to me with this so early, she said. Of course, we'll find a solution soon, just give me a moment 'cause I just need to check your soul and scan you for other issues. She spoke to him in a calm voice.

With each word she spoke, she took a step closer to him. Adam, not sensing anything strange, did not react, waiting for his mother's action and a possible solution. Completely defenseless and mindlessly exposing themselves to it.

The woman stopped frozen. Now it was his mother who was surprised, not expecting such an answer.

So it was a woman? She asked as if she didn't even want an answer.

Yes. Adam confirmed.

Fuck cursed Kassandra not knowing she said it out loud.

After her last words, Adam was surprised not shocked by what he heard. His mother never cursed ever. It was something unthinkable for her.

His image of an ideal and immaculate mother cracked at that moment, she became a normal woman and not an idol invented by him, the image already had a scratch one of many in the future.

Kasandra Cadrod Pov

For Kasandra Cadrod, Friday was going to go as usual. Waking up for morning exercises waking up my son and going to work. Day after day without a break.

I prefer this monotonous life with my family to my old torments, Kasandra thought as she did her morning exercises. Everything would be better than what happened before. She tried to tell herself over and over again to reinforce her awareness that she had made good decisions in the past.

 

When she finished doing a series of crunches out of the corner of her eye, she saw her son surprised.

As if he was in a hurry, he quickly came over to her and started a conversation.

Mom, I have a case. What could he be up to, she thought. I want to start training him for the knight academy entrance exam. He finally came to his senses and abandoned his male pride. She thought, pleased with his decision.

What's the matter, honey?

See, I have a problem, I hear a strange voice in my head. He said surprising the woman.

All I could say was a quick What? Did I make a mistake somewhere or maybe I was in too much of a hurry this time, thought Kasandra, nervous about her possible mistake. Is it too late for him?

Thinking about the many different possible outcomes, Kasandra needed more information, so she asked him a question.

And what is this voice telling you, does it want something from you or is it telling you to do something for it?

The quickest solution would be to put Adam to sleep and then examine him, and if nothing else helps, repeat the ritual, his mother decided.

Nothing yet, just found out yesterday. answered the boy.

Good smart boy, I trained him well. Maybe it's not too late, she thought, smiling, trying to calm her nervous son.

And what else did this man tell you, maybe talk about me or what will happen in the future or what happened in the past?

I wonder if that voice gained memories of what I did to it. If so, maybe he started turning Adam against me. I have to act fast and ruthlessly like in the old days.

What? what man?

Impossible, I'm sure I chose a man, it's impossible unless it's something else. And the only other person capable of that is... She thought, shocked by the answer. I need to be sure he didn't make a mistake before I act.

Adam, please say no. Kasandra held on to the last remnants of hope that the worst possible outcome hadn't occurred.
