There were no grand incidents after Sequencee’s involvement with the church and cult. Leticia’s party, which had been called A317, named after their room number, handled four quests throughout the duration of the holiday.
Dungeon exploration to check on miasma levels, subjugation of monsters for resources, an escort mission and retrieval of dead adventurer tags in Norcto’s woodland. The last one was possible because of Leticia’s system gift, allowing her to use nature to generalize a direction where the plants sensed corpses.
Everyone got to learn how to work in this unbalanced party of six. Nynim, always being the rowdy one, teleporting here and there whilst causing a mess by using fire and earth magic (Sequencee and Daizo being the ones who had to clean up the aftermath each time). Quora being the only vanguard other than Sequencee at times, showcasing amazing swordsmanship and skills in close quarters.
As for Dorry– he was probably the MVP. Due to the nature of his ‘overly destructive’ railgun-like magic, he could at most support the team by taking charge of the cooking, camping and strategizing. He became the command center and supporting pillar which kept the party cohesion together. It was decided after the first mission that Dorry take on the role of leader instead of Nynim.
By the end of it, the party had been evaluated as a high-tier C-rank party, Sequencee’s A-rank status balancing out Leticia’s F-rank status.
“Ro, Carter, I’ll be going back first, see you,” Lilian said, packing her water bottle and some snacks into her tote bag.
“Yeah sure,” Ro replied, staring up at the ceiling as he spoke.
“Careful where you’re walking,” Carter grinned.
“I know, I know.”
Meanwhile, Ro and Lilian had been working at the cafeteria building as waiters to build up their savings for the past month.
Lilian slugged her bag over her shoulders and walked out of the employees break room.
She greeted her colleagues as she made her way through the cafeteria halls. Taking the stairs, she made her way to the ground floor before moving to the exit. As she was still in her uniform, she looked quite conspicuous among the crowd of students.
The evening sun drew long shadows on the ground, the sky painted in a gorgeous orange. In the distance Lilian could faintly make out three silhouettes approaching her.
‘Odd. It’s becoming blurry..’
Lilian rubbed her eyes and blinked a couple times before she realized that she wasn’t wearing her glasses.
“Darned Carter.”
It was inconceivable to think that someone dependent on glasses would forget one of their most important accessories. The only reason why something of this nature could happen was because of Carter’s system gift, which helped restore her eyesight temporarily. He was a priest-in-training in the medical faculty.
Thinking that it would be good to rest her eyes by not using her glasses, Lilian had left it aside as she served the clients in the cafeteria. It was also a secret that Lilian thought that she looked much prettier when not wearing those big googly glasses– though some may likely disagree.
Unwittingly, it was today that she overlooked the existence of her second pair of eyes.
The three silhouettes in the distance drew closer, but Lilian’s true eyesight could only make out vague muddled shapes.
“Evening, Lilian..” one of them greeted in a dead-wood voice. He sounded familiar.
“Good evening..” the other sighed as if trying to forget the earlier troubles.
Linzy, who stood beside the stranger-looking guy, bobbed her head.
“Linzy.. Risa and Shiro?”
It wasn’t only that Lilian lacked her normal visual acuity, but that Risa and Shiro were each wearing an artifact which disguised their appearance. Not only that, but they had boggy black circles under their eyes, frail appearance, and a stuttery gait that didn’t resemble their usual self. Fortunately, their voices remained the same– and Linzy’s acting was a dead give-away.
“You’re not working for the evening today?” Risa asked.
“No. That was only for last week. The next semester is starting two days from now, no?”
“Is Sequencee coming back today?” Shiro asked languidly.
“I’m.. not sure. Sorry. But I’ll be sure to pass the message over if he does.”
“Thank you..”
“Why are you not wearing your glasses..?” Risa asked.
“Um, this? I kind of forgot. I was just about to head back to grab it..” If Lilian recalled correctly, her glasses should still be in the break room.
“Mn. Then we’ll be going ahead,” Shiro said.
“Ah.. okay.”
The three walked past Lilian.
A dark mood clung to their backs. She wondered what kind of hell they went through.
===
“..Where is.. it.. I swear I placed it here somewhere!”
Feeling around the break room which was full of stuff, Lilian searched the many probable locations she could’ve placed her glasses. Like, on the open table, the self near the keyholder, the compartment beneath the glass table. She even double checked her tote bag to make sure that it didn’t fall inside just to be crushed under the other items.
“It’s not here..”
“Are you trying to find something?” One of her colleagues asked.
“My glasses. Have you seen them anywhere?”
“No.. I haven’t. Let me help.”
And Lilian received a helping hand. Nevertheless, the search was to no avail.
“Maybe you left it near the counter? Or the kitchen?”
“No way.. that couldn’t be it..”
Despite her doubt, she went to these locations to check. By then, the cafeteria was already in full swing for its evening catering. Lilian had been mistaken as a staff and was dragged to help out.
“No, no.. I’m just searching for something..”
“What do you mean? You’re not working the evening shift.”
“Yes, I’m not..”
“Then why are you even here?”
Lilian thought this guy was deaf. Did she have to repeat herself?
“BOO!!” someone grabbed her shoulder and grounded her tight.
“Ahh?!” Lilian yelped.
“We meet again Lilian!”
“G-Gibera? Stop scaring me like that.”
“Is there anything wrong?”
Gibera was a noble who they met earlier in their enrolment during the beginning of New Dawn. She was studying in the magic concert course.
“Did you say you were not going to work the evening shift?”
Lilian couldn’t see clearly, but she could at least make out that Gibera didn’t come alone.
“No. I’m trying to find my glasses. It’s missing..” Lilian said, dropping her head.

“Then do you need a tracker?” one of Gibera’s friends asked.
“Where was the last place you saw it?” Gibera asked.
“Uh.. it was at the employee’s lounge.”
“In the first place, how could you forget something like your glasses?”
So Lilian had to explain. And during the explanation, she was dragged to join them at their table.
“Ah, so that’s what happened.”
“Seriously? That’s such a cool gift. Too bad it's only transient,” a girl who also wore glasses muttered.
“Excuse me, could you stop fooling around and get back to work?” another waiter who mistook Lilian as the evening server whispered to her as he brought the specially ordered drinks to Gibera’s table.
“A-Ah.. I’m not working the night shift..”
“Then why are you wearing your uniform?”
“...”
“Get back to work already, sheesh.”
“...”
“Brat,” one of the girls spat secretly as he left.
Lilian lowered her head and sighed.
“I think I’ll come back tomorrow and try again. At this rate, I’m only going to cause trouble.”
“Right. Sometimes we fail to find what it is we are seeking when we’re too focused on. Watch your step as you return okay?” Gibera said.
“Okay. I’ll be careful.”
Lilian left promptly. The surrounding had already descended into darkness, twinkling stars of twilight filled the sky. With all the blurred lights in the surroundings, it made things hard to see.
Lilian heard her own stomach grumble. She tightened her hold on the tote bag and heaved another sigh. One of the biggest anxieties of someone suffering from myopia is when you lose your glasses. It’s like losing an important part of your body.
Fortunately, Lilian didn’t bump into anyone as she found her way back to the dorm.
“Where have you been?” Ro who had been waiting asked. There was already a pot of their dinner on the table.
“I was trying to find my glasses. Sorry..” Lilian felt guilty that Ro waited for her.
“Your glasses? I brought it back with me. What? You seriously flipped the entire cafeteria?” hearing that, any lingering doubts he had was wiped out. Ro had thought that something happened to Lilian and was going to set off if she didn’t return in another few minutes.
“...”
“Lilian..?”
“Nothing. Thank you,” Lilian picked up her glasses placed on the table.
She then took out the snacks from her bag and lined them on the table. These would go with their dinner. The noodles that Ro cooked had already become soggy from being soaked in the broth for too long.
“You should keep your glasses on as usual next time,” Ro said.
“You don’t need to tell me that, I know.”
“Of course.. how many times have I warned you already to double check?” evidently, Ro had often reminded Lilian to remember to wear her glasses the past week.
“Gorilla!” Lilian exclaimed.
“Wow. You bat.”
“Gorilla!”
“Bats don’t scream.”
“Gorilla’s don’t speak.”
Ro rolled his eyes and slurped on his noodles.
It was at this time they heard a click at the door. Both of them turned to the entrance at once.
“Yo.”
“Sequencee!” Lilian called out with her cheeks stuffed with noodles.
“Welcome back Sequencee,” Ro waved his hands.
“Yeah. I’m back,” he dragged his luggage in.
Sequencee looked like a bona fide mercenary wearing a mage’s long coat which had obvious stains on it. There were also various accessories peeking from underneath, most notably the light armor pieces.
“Ro, Lilian, how have you been?” Following behind Sequencee was Leticia.
“Eh? Leticia?”
Leticia too had gotten herself a magic coat like Sequencee, having some capability of deflecting physical and magic attacks. Seeing how unified they were, Lilian thought that something definitely happened between them while Schwii wasn’t around.
Ro kept to himself his thoughts on Sequencee’s relationship with woman.
“What are you eating?” Sequencee asked.
“This? Just simple noodles,” Ro said.
“Sequencee, do you want to eat dinner with us again later?” Leticia asked.
“Yeah sure. You guys go wash up first. I’ll have to arrange my stuff before I go over to your side.”
“Alright then. See you in a bit, I’ll go first.”
“Yup.”
Leticia left, leaving Sequencee, Ro and Lilian in the dorm.
“Um.. when is Schwii coming back?” Ro asked.
“She’s coming back later in the evening with Iona.”
“Ah.. I see.”
“Yup. Then I’ll go wash up.”
“Oh yeah. Sequencee, before I forget. Shiro and Risa wants you to go meet them at the central pagoda, anytime they said,” Lilian reminded.
“Well.. I was going to eventually. Thanks for the notice.”
