Chapter 2 : The Sect Master’s Wife

Perhaps his prayers before going to bed had been heard. When Bai Fan woke up, he found that he was fortunate to have returned to the dormitory, but his happiness did not last long. After enjoying a blissful day, he then again went back to the haunted house at night. And everyday after that,  Bai Fan was completely devastated.

Day and night is the gap between heaven and hell. During the day, he eats, drinks and has a computer. At night, he has to endure inhuman hunger. Most of the time, he can find stale food in the house to fill his stomach, but sometimes he can’t find any. And every time the blue cloth on the head of the bed is empty, Bai Fan feels a bit desolate.

As a result, the people in room 509 found that Bai Fan recently experienced various abnormal phenomenons. He would be in a daze from time to time, started to overeat, and stopped playing his favorite games. Sleeping at 8 o’clock sharp, and holding food before going to bed. If he forgets to buy any, he will grab all the food stored in the dormitory, and then sleep accompanied with it.

Bai Fan’s behavior was weird in the eyes of the people in room 509, but no one knew how miserable Bai Fan was feeling. He clearly had something to eat, and slept with so much food, but always woke up at that haunted house every time with nothing. Everytime he opens his eyes, he is hungry and half dead. No matter how tightly he hugged the food before going to bed, he couldn’t bring anything with him. Bai Fan gradually gave up, and no longer slept holding his food, which made the worried Luo Shuai breathe a sigh of relief.

After experiencing this for more than ten days, Bai Fan eventually understood his situation. The place he arrived at night was not a dream, but a real world. He would be hungry, hurt and in pain. He didn’t know how he ended up there, but at 8 o’clock at night, he would arrive there on time and become this little boy, and when the sun rose the next morning, he would return to his original world.

He speculated that he arrived there in a way similar to soul possession, because his roommates said that his body had been sleeping well in the dormitory at night.

Because every time he goes to that world is during the night, Bai Fan doesn’t know much about that place. He just hides behind the deteriorated courtyard door and looks out. The world outside of the courtyard seemed to be a huge garden. Surrounding a beautiful small building, he most often sees people holding swords patrolling, and occasionally some maids carrying lamps would pass by. They…were all wearing ancient clothes.

But what makes Bai Fan confused is that this dilapidated courtyard seems to have been forgotten by everyone. Those who patrolled would never come in, they even spotted him in the crack of the door, but they still continued to patrol after a glance. It looks like the young boy is a legal resident, not a thief who sneaked in.

But if he’s a legal resident, it’s even more strange. A child of such a small size can occupy such a large courtyard alone. Although the courtyard is very run down, a child slave couldn’t possibly own a land this big. Then he must be the homeowner’s child, but this child, who may not be of low status, is dirty and has no one taking care of him, he doesn’t even have proper meals. Bai Fan shook his head and decided not to think about it anymore, but since this body is so sorrowful, then he must have an unfavorable identity, maybe an illegitimate child, so Bai Fan decided to be more careful.

Yet another night, Bai Fan squatted for many hours, patted his numb legs and left from the door crack. Today, he didn’t get any new information, so he decided to go back and sleep.

Bai Fan returned to the room where he woke up. All the rooms in this yard were covered with thick layers of dust. Only this one was clean and hardly acceptable to live in. Bai Fan held his stomach. He had searched for food today, but sadly, nothing was found. The blue cloth on the bed was empty. Bai Fan was hungry to the point he wanted to gnaw grass roots.

After Bai Fan fell asleep in a dazed manner, the sky soon began to brighten. The person lying on the bed sat up again, he looked at the blue cloth randomly lying on the bedside. He pursed his lips, and turned over the cloth. He didn’t know who was stealing his food these days, but the little thief is too stupid, stealing from him every day while knowning the fact that he is poor. Even a handmaid here eats more food than he does.

Yin Rui caressed his stomach. He didn’t find anything to eat yesterday. He needs find more today, otherwise he would have no energy.

Yin Rui sneaked out of the courtyard and ran to a corner behind the kitchen. He watched a maid bring out a plate of steaming dishes from the kitchen, and he couldn’t help feeling his stomach become hungrier. In fact, he should be given some food. However, due to that woman’s instructions, no one would send it to him.

After the dishes in the kitchen were put on the plate, there were actually some left, but those were not his share. Yin Rui stared at the remaining dishes which were divided up among several chefs, and then continued to wait until the chefs all left. After leaving, there was only one maid left in the kitchen who was watching the fire. Yin Rui knew that the maid would leave after she filled the stove with enough firewood. That moment would be his opportunity.

After the maid left, Yin Rui quickly ran inside and stole two steamed buns. He didn’t dare to take more, if he got exposed, he would certainly suffer. Even though stealing from the kitchen is not a grave crime for a maid, in the eyes of that woman, that small little crime could cost half of his life.

Yin Rui held the steamed buns in his hands, hid in a secluded corner and started chewing. After devouring one, he looked at the other bun. If it was in the past, he would have kept one for emergencies. But when that little thief came into mind, he furrowed his brow. Even if it was kept for emergencies, it would still be stolen by that little thief in the end anyway. Yin Rui decided to eat it now. No matter where he hid the food, the little thief would always find it, he would rather eat it now, avoiding the pain of an empty stomach.

“What are you doing?!” An unexpected scold scared Yin Rui to the core. He slowly turned his head, only to see a group of people gathered behind him. What’s worse was that that woman was amongst them.

The maid who scolded Yin Rui turned around to face that woman wearing exquisite clothes and said to her, “Madam, this lowly one noticed this brat was being sneaky before, and especially reported to you Madam. I never thought this brat would go to the kitchen and steal food again.”

That woman slightly nodded her head, a pair of emotionless eyes looked at Yin Rui, using a condescending tone, “The son of a lowly maid can’t be anything great, snooping around at a young age. As the first wife, I must educate him well”

“Yes, Madam.” Two strong servants immediately came from behind, they were both holding a horse whip, without exchanging any words they both aimed towards Yin Rui’s body. No one was counting the number of whips that landed on his body, everyone could only stop when the Madam was satisfied.

That horse whip was as thick as a thumb, even an adult wouldn’t be able to handle being hit by it, not to mention a young child like Yin Rui. He definitely would not beg for mercy in front of this woman, even if he died now, he would never let out a single cry. Inside Yin Rui’s eyes, was a deep feeling of hatred.

The surroundings were silent, only the sound of the whips hitting on a kid’s body could be heard. Finally, the head maid couldn’t watch anymore, she stepped up and whispered, “Madam, if they continue there will be a problem, the Sect Master…” Even though no one cared about whether Yin Rui lived or not, he was only an illegitimate child, born of a lowly maid, the Sect Master never asked for him before, but regardless he is still the Sect Master’s descendant, if he dies without an explanation, who knows if the Sect Master would investigate it one day.

After hearing her words, that woman became quiet, then raised her hand to signal the two servants to stop.

“Drag him back, he’s an eyesore here.” The Madam looked at the blood-stained ground with disgust.

“Yes.” The two servants did as they were told to.

“Wait. Just drag him to the entrance of his courtyard, then leave him. Let him crawl back by himself.” The Madam added.

“Yes.”

Seeing that annoying pest being dragged away like a dead dog, the woman smirked, it seems that she was in a good mood.

“Mother,” At the far end of the road came a crowd of people, leading them was a young and cheerful boy, behind him was a group of servants.

“Jin’er,” That woman showed some excitement seeing the boy who looked similar to her walking towards her, her expression gave off a loving gaze, completely different from the previous cold and ruthlessness, “Jin’er, why did you want to see me today?”

Yin Jin, the legitimate child of the Sect Leader of the Black Moon Sect, not only was he the legitimate child he was also the first child. He had received a lot of care and affection ever since he was young, he was raised by the Sect Master himself. He is a very important person, everyone knows him as the young master of the Black Moon Sect. Compared to Yin Rui who was born of a lowly maid, no one in the household knows of his existence due to him being hidden by the Madam.

Yin Jin saw the pool of blood on the floor, he immediately understood what was going on, he knew his mother educated his ‘younger brother’. He is used to having these types of ‘incidents’ happening ever since he was young, he did not care, “Mother, this son just came back with Father earlier, we brought a lot of fresh items, you would definitely like it Mother.”

That woman smiled and said, “This child, you can always make me happy.”

That young boy walked towards her and hugged her while smiling, “You’re embarrassing me, Mother. Let’s go.”

“Okay.”

This scene of a kind mother and filial son was slowly fading away, what was left on the ground was only Yin Rui’s shocking blood stain.

Yin Rui was half-conscious when he was dragged away by the two servants, at last he was thrown away in front of his courtyard’s staircase. After everyone had left, Yin Rui’s limbs couldn’t stop trembling while attempting to get up, he fell countless times. There were many people in the sect during the day, and several people walked by, but no one cared to give a helping hand, even though it was such a menial task. Yin Rui did not know how much energy he used, finally, he was able to step into the courtyard. Then he used all of his strength to shut the door, shutting away those pitiful and gloating expressions outside.

He did not know how he walked all the way from the courtyard into the room. But after coming back to his territory, he felt safe and relieved. He knew he should be treating his injuries now, at the very least he should take off his clothes, since dry blood would stick his clothes to the skin.

However, his eyelids felt so heavy, and his arms felt sore. At the end he lost consciousness.
