Chapter 270: “Five Millenia: A History”

This was Yun Xiangxiang’s first time working on a film post-production. Yi Yan was also dragged back to dub with her.

Looking at the scenes she acted out and dubbing it according to the mood of the scene was a unique experience.

Yun Xiangxiang learned about voices during her study of Shaoxing opera with Yuan Pingqiu.

But that wasn’t enough. There were professionals providing guidance when she was dubbing.

Yun Xiangxiang became fascinated with voices from this dubbing work. Not the voices themselves, but the magical feeling it brought.

The way to change, control, and imbue emotion to voices.

While Yun Xiangxiang was engrossed in the dubbing, “The King’s Plan”‘s worldwide box office results were released.

They grossed sixty million dollars in one week of screening in North America. Many foreigners critically acclaimed it, saying that they loved it.

The foreigners were impressed by the magnificent scenes. Even though the numbers didn’t break any records, it was still exciting.

“Xiangxiang, want to make an international account?” Song Mian called her over the weekend. “Instagram, or Facebook?”

“No, it’s fine. It’s troublesome for you, and I don’t need to have so many groups of fans,” Yun Xiangxiang refused.

They would have to use a VPN to bypass the national firewall before logging into these websites. Yun Xiangxiang didn’t even use Weibo that much. She wouldn’t have time for Instagram or Facebook too.

She would have to tend to these if they were created. She couldn’t throw everything to Song Meng. Song Meng also had her studies to tend to.

“Okay then,” Song Meng only asked her about it because she noticed many overseas fans were asking for one.

“The fans are asking about your next move,” Song Meng said again.

“Tell them I’m busy preparing for my finals,” Yun Xiangxiang decided to tell her the truth. “I’ll be going to Paris for a film shoot this summer break. But it hasn’t been officially announced yet.”

“When are you going? Xiangling and I will go with you.” As the fanclub’s president, she needed to do all she could to know what Yun Xiangxiang was doing. Besides, going overseas could broaden her horizons too.

“Do you have the money to go with me?” Yun Xiangxiang asked.

“Don’t you underestimate me. I work part-time on weekends!” Song Meng harrumphed.

“My finals are on the fourth of July. I will be going on the sixth and return around early August,” Yun Xiangxiang estimated.

“Alright. I’ll go with you,” Song Meng hung up and called Li Xiangling.

Qian Qian called her. Yun Xiangxiang would take him here after the entrance examination was over. She asked him how it went. “It was fine,” he said. He was planning to attend a university in Beijing.

Yun Xiangxiang went down and saw the finished bead bracelet. The beads were shaped like rounded squares. There were retro engravings along the edges, and in the beads’ center was an auspicious cloud. It looked magnificently ancient and was cold to the touch.

There were a total of six beads on the bracelets. This number represented ‘smooth sailing.’ And Song Mian’s birthday was on the sixth of June in the Chinese calendar.

Yun Xiangxiang immediately took it home and started knitting with the rope Deng Yang sent her. She made a diamond-knot shaped bracelet.

The diamond knot was pretty and meaningful. It was a brown-colored rope paired with the black jadeite. Yun Xiangxiang almost took a picture of the finished bracelet and sent it to Song Mian. But she managed to hold it down until his birthday.

She wanted to learn how to bake so that she could make a cake on Song Mian’s birthday. It was a pity she knew she wouldn’t master it in a short time after she inquired about it. She might not have time after this, either.

She gave up. Song Mian knew how to make a cake anyway. If she wanted to have one, she could ask him to make her one.

When Yun Xiangxiang was done with dubbing for “Jiu Se,” this year’s entrance examination’s results were also released. Many candidates went to Yun Xiangxiang’s Weibo to tell her they would be her juniors.

Qingdao University released this year’s enrollment stats two days later. It was a lot higher than in previous years. Many of those who could be enrolled in previous years couldn’t make it this year, as every province had its quota.

Not only did Qingdao University regret it, but many top students also cried about it under Yun Xiangxiang’s Weibo.

Yun Xiangxiang took her time to reply and console them. Most of them were rational. Their results were kind enough to enter, but they said Qingdao University wasn’t their dream. They might not be going to Qingdao, but they still loved her.

Before she went to where Song Mian was, He Wei called her. “Interested in appearing on a variety show?”

“Brother Wei, except for promoting films, I don’t want to go on any variety shows,” Yun Xiangxiang told He Wei.

Shooting variety shows weren’t any more relaxed than filming films. Besides, people would quickly ship her with someone if she went on variety shows. That was how Hua Xiangrong and Ruo Feiqun started in her past life.

“I think this new show has something to it. They like your variety show effect and your influence. That’s why they invited you as a regular guest. Give me your answer after you have gone through the content.” He Wei accepted it. Instead, he gave her the document.

In other words, He Wei had high hopes for this show, and he hoped Yun Xiangxiang could join it. Yun Xiangxiang trusted He Wei. She opened the show’s proposal.

After reading it, Yun Xiangxiang had to admit that the show attracted her.

The show was called “Five Millenia: A History.”

It was a show that promoted Chinese culture. Every episode would bring the guests to places where traditional cultures were born. They would promote one aspect of Chinese culture through interactivity, games, and competitions.

Their range ran from poems, songs, music, calligraphy, all the way to food, and even ethnic specialties.

This show was different from many other variety shows which focused on entertainment. It had a duty of awakening the ethnic spirit.

Yun Xiangxiang was interested, but it meant her workload would increase. She could learn a lot from joining this show, but she didn’t think she could take responsibility.

“Brother Wei, this is a good show. I would watch it if it airs, but I don’t think I have the time to take part in it.” She would consider it if she graduated.

She was still studying. She couldn’t tend to her studies, career, and this show at the same time.

Shows like this had to be strict on their content. She couldn’t just run through it like other shows. If they needed to promote the culture, they needed to know about it themselves. How else could they make the viewers share the same feeling as they did?

“It’s still in the works. Most of the stuff in here is at the national heritage level. They could only use it after being approved. Some of it can only be shown on screen after negotiating with those who had the know-how.

“Make your decision after everything’s done. If you still can’t do it, then I’ll reject them. They invited you because they knew you had the biggest influence among the new generation of actors. The show’s culture is supposed to be shown to the youth,” He Wei reserved his opinion.
