Chapter 11 – Sail

Nanlin No. 1 High School had two fields, the new field had a running track, a basketball court, a football field, a sandpit, and an indoor gymnasium. After the new field was completed, the old court was not as popular and was only used when the new court was not enough.

The old field was relatively close to the dormitory, and almost no one came there at night. Chi Tang liked the quietness here, so she run there.

After studying in the evening, You Yu came over for almost half an hour.

“You have chosen the three kilometers, you have to practice in advance.”

Chi Tang told You Yu who was quietly running beside her.

There were two street lights there. One has been broken for a long time and had not been repaired. The other was standing beside a tall camphor tree, covered by the luxuriant branches and leaves for most of the light. It looked hazy, and the surroundings were not very clear.

The voices from the dormitory building were as faint as the lights in the distance.

Chi Tang was listening to songs, automatically recommended based on what she liked. She didn’t know what the name of the song was. It was pure music and the volume was not too loud. She vaguely heard the sound of footsteps echoing around, because it was synchronized, like a person running out.

The leaves were huge and mottled by the shadow of the lights, and fell to the ground, swaying constantly by their footsteps.

The song stopped, probably because the phone was out of power. When her world was quiet, Chi Tang heard the people around him muttering silently.

“What are you listening to?” Chi Tang took off her headphones and asked.

You Yu: “Endorsing.”

Chi Tang was convinced that she had learned about God. If a person had a clever mind and was more diligent than everyone else, then that person was terrifying.

You Yu asked her, “Aren’t you listening to songs?”

Chi Tang: “My phone’s out of power.”

You Yu: “Do you want to recite the text? I’m going to draw back tomorrow morning.”

Chi Tang didn’t want to recite, but after running around, she felt bored, and said, “Did you recite?”

After asking, she felt that she was asking for nothing.

It was estimated that You Yu could recite it after reading it twice in class.
Chi Tang didn’t know what was going on. She went out for a walk just to avoid some people in the dormitory. As a result, she spent time memorizing the text when she came.

Not only memorized the text but also practiced spoken English.

You Yu said: “My spoken English is not very good, so I need to practice more.”

She practiced a next to her, a conversation, repeated a certain sentence, Chi Tang couldn’t help but continue. She spoke and You Yu spoke another sentence.

The whole school slowly quieted down, and the summer stars in the sky were still shining in the autumn sky. They walked through a green belt, stepped on dozens of stairs, and went back to the bedroom to rest. It was like this for several days.

At the opening ceremony of the sports meeting, they had to go to the class square. During the class meeting, the headteacher Lao Fang had allow the class to discuss the sports meeting. Some people said that they would rent a suit. The girls wore trousers, and the atmosphere was very warm.

The teacher next door knocked on the door to make them quieter.

The teacher in charge of the class listened to them slowly and finally said: “We didn’t pay much for the class. Even if we spent money, the school leaders are not allowed to dress too strangely.”

Before he finished speaking, there was a wailing and complaining from the students.

Chi Tang was also somewhat interested but she did not participate in the discussion, just listened.

“Let’s ask what they plan to do in class one and class three, and then decide, okay?”

Hei Pi had already completed the task of investigating the enemy’s situation, and immediately reported: “Class 1 and Class 3 are wearing school uniforms.”

“Ah, it’s too boring, just wearing school uniforms, it’s not fun at all!”

In the end, they still wore school uniforms, because the vice-principal informed them that someone would take pictures during the sports meeting and that fancy outfits were not allowed.

“What kind of fancy clothes, what age are they? Are the principal and vice-principal of our school an old antique?”

“Don’t open the sports meeting, it’s boring.”

These students couldn’t resist even if they complained, and they still wore school uniforms obediently that day. Their school uniforms were blue and white, which were not pretty nor ugly.

The sports meeting was held for two days, Thursday and Friday, followed by the weekend holidays. As long as they were not in class, the students were happy, even if they failed to put on interesting clothes to overpower other classes, they still had a lot of fun together.

It rained on Wednesday, and Thursday happened to be a sunny day, only the ground was still a little moist, and the temperature rose and it was extremely hot.

When entering the arena, the second team properly walked into the court in a rectangular formation. Chi Tang stood in the back half of the formation because of her height.

When the ninth class came out, Chi Tang heard the noise around her, screaming and whistling, and some people complained: “Why can our class be dressed like that? It’s not fair!”

The people in front all jumped up to look, Chi Tang tilted her head and looked in the gap. The placard in Class 9 was a boy, wearing a skirt, stepping on high heels, and a little bit tweaked. It was the sports committee member of their class. The students in the back wore miniskirts—boys and girls dressed in Hanfu.

The styles were mixed and matched, making them unique among a group of school uniform students.

The commotion had not stopped long after Class 9 had passed, and had been discussed.

After listening to the discussion for a while, Chi Tang became impatient and began to feel that the speech on the podium was too cumbersome. Standing in the class formation under such a big sun, she didn’t want to open her eyes because of the hot sun. She covered the sun with her sleeves and squinted her eyes.

The girl in front was slapstick and didn’t pay attention to her surroundings. Seeing that she was about to hit her, Chi Tang took a step back to avoid their pushing, but she accidentally stepped on the foot of the person behind her.

Behind her was You Yu, and You Yu helped her.

“Sorry.”

“It’s okay.”

You Yu’s clean white rubber shoes had a footprint on them, which was very conspicuous. A mark that could be seen at a glance.

You Yu’s women’s 3,000-meter long-distance running and Chi Tang’s long jump were both in the afternoon, with the long jump ahead.

Although Chi Tang was not very popular in the class, many girls felt that she was too arrogant and did not like to play with her, but when she heard the radio to go to the long jump, the sports committee member Hei Pi immediately led a few of her classmates to cheer her up. Besides her, two other girls in the class chose to long jump.

You Yu went there. She had just taken the number plate for the long-distance race and stood aside wearing those white rubber shoes that had been stepped on by her.

Chi Tang glanced at her shoes and heard the teacher call the name of another student in the class.

The girl was a little nervous, standing at the starting position, accelerating, but failed to jump up, fell directly into the sandpit, and the other people onlookers burst into laughter.

The scoring teacher also laughed, seeing the girl embarrassed, and said: “Three chances, one more time.”

The girl got up annoyed. This time she hurriedly finished the jump and got a bad grade.

Next came several people, with good and bad grades.

“Class two, Chi Tang prepare.”

Chi Tang exhaled and walked to the front of the sandpit.

She was not short and had very long legs. She was not wearing the uniforms and pants. She wore a pair of stretch jeans, which made her slender legs stand out.

She started running, her black hair fluttered, her open coat was filled with wind, like a sail, she jumped.
