Chapter 26 – Rain flowers

Chi Tang’s fingers were white and slender, there was a small mole on the side of her wrist and the protruding wrist bone and the blue blood vessels were very clear. She had worn that black slender watch before, and You Yu found it to be particularly good-looking, but now the watch was in her hands, it didn’t match up.

Her fingers were not stubby, but rough, the joints a bit thick due to frostbite in her early years, and there were some small scars left in her early years, which gave her a clumsy feeling, which was not suitable for this watch.

The watch that was just taken off still had a bit of temperature. You Yu took the watch in her hand and watched the second-hand movements.

She wanted to refuse, but seeing Chi Tang closed her eyes again, twisting her eyebrows to resist the discomfort. She felt that she shouldn’t bother her with this kind of thing now, she would feel even more uncomfortable.

After hesitating, You Yu clasped the watch carefully on her wrist, then pulled down her long sleeve to cover it.

Several buses parked in the parking lot at the foot of the mountain. After getting off the bus, each class lined up and listened to the last lecture of the leading teacher. For the teachers, if one thing was not repeated three times, the students couldn’t remember anything.

Whether it was asking them to study hard or admonishing them not to do anything, it had to be repeated over and over again.

When most of the students became impatient, the headteacher, Lao Fang, stopped talking and asked the class leader and Hei Pi to distribute chrysanthemums together. One person, one branch of white chrysanthemums held in their hand, lined up to climb the mountain.

The sky was cloudy, even after ten o’clock in the morning, the light was a bit dim. At the foot of the mountain, there was a long stone staircase leading to the tombstone of the martyrs. On both sides of the stone steps were cypress trees. The dark green cypress trees were cold.

On that cloudy day, it was a little more melancholy.

It’s just that that kind of atmosphere had been diluted a lot by the roar of a group of young people. The teenage students were energetic and soon started fighting in the long run.

The Qingming Martyrs’ tomb offering flowers was not only the second class, but other classes came one after another. The third class was in front of them. They came early and had already offered flowers and started going down the mountain.

The long line had a shape at the beginning, and it slowly turned into a scattered school of fish. The squad leader vigorously maintained discipline in front, calling everyone to keep the queue.

“Lu Wei! Don’t drill into the cypress forest, it’s dangerous!”

“Hahaha Luwei, the squad leader told us not to go into the woods! Come back!”

“What’s the danger of this kind of grove? Are there snakes?”

“There are no snakes this season.”

A group of students gossiping and wicked boys deliberately stepped up three steps, smashed a branch in the cypress wood next to them with their feet, and shouted, “Snake!”

“Ah!” The two girls behind him were taken aback by him and called his name angrily: “Chen Zhiran, you are sick!”

The boy arrogantly smiled and turned his head and ran away. With long legs, he ran to the front of the team.

The monitor had to shout again: “Chen Zhiran! Pay attention to safety and don’t run around on the stairs!”

You Yu and Chi Tang walked peacefully in the second half of the team. Seeing Chen Zhiran deliberately scare people in front of him, Chi Tang rolled her eyes and whispered, “Boring idiot.”

You Yu walked next to her, and took the opportunity to ask her: “Are you getting sicker?”

“Hmm.” After getting off the car, the fresh air here finally soothed her.

You Yu: “Let’s go slower.”

Chi Tang was still a little uncomfortable, too lazy to speak, and shook the chrysanthemum in her hand twice to agree. The two were slow, sometimes someone passed them, and soon they became the tail of the crane.

At that time everyone dispersed, the monitor gave up on discipline, and no one urged them.

For a while, apart from the two of them on the long stone step, only a few students were descending the mountain, all far away.

The noise was up to the mountain, the cypress forest exuded a fresh fragrance of cypress trees, and birds were singing.

There are a few chrysanthemum petals scattered on the stone steps, probably left by a naughty student playing with chrysanthemums, and a broken chrysanthemum was thrown on one side of a cypress branch.

Chi Tang snorted: “Which are they here to offer flowers, the flowers are lost, it is better to offer themselves.”

On the stone steps in the distance, a boy brandished his coat and deliberately tried to provoke the girl.

Chi Tang: “I thought it was a wild monkey from a distance.”

You Yu: “Puff–“

Listening to her, You Yu couldn’t help laughing. Sometimes Chi Tang was narrow-minded, and when she was upset, she is even more sarcastic.

“Is it going to rain?” You Yu looked up at the sky.

Chi Tang: “…it seems to be, let’s go faster.”

Walking up two steps, Chi Tang turned her head and looked at You Yu who was behind her, “Hurry up, too.”

You Yu smiled and looked up at her: “Okay, I will follow you.”

Chi Tang walked like that, it would be bad if she accidentally fell, and she could hold him back.

When the two walked to the top, there was already a circle of chrysanthemums next to the tombstone of the martyrs. The flowers in their hands were put on it.

A small number of people ran around to play after offering flowers, but most people choose to go to the martyrs’ memorial not far away. As students with composition tasks, You Yu and Chi Tang also went to the memorial.

After going around the memorial hall, it started to rain outside.

The two and other students stood under the leaves of the memorial hall, looking at the stone steles and the cypress trees standing in the drizzle.

“The rain looks like it won’t stop for a while.”

“Who has an umbrella?”

“I only brought something to eat.”

“Wait a moment.”

Chi Tang took out her phone but she had forgotten to bring her earphones so she played the song at the lowest volume. You Yu stood beside her, listening carefully to the faint song.

“What song is this?” You Yu asked. Chi Tang liked listening to songs. She had learned a lot of song titles from Chi Tang, and she quietly recorded them in her book.

Chi Tang turned on the phone screen to show her the title of the song, which was in Japanese.

Chi Tang: “The title of the song is translated as “That Summer”, which is a song from the animated film “Spirited Away”.”

When the song was over, it automatically skipped to the next one. Chi Tang said: “This one is from the same movie, it means the river of that day.”

You Yu nodded: “They are all very good, but I haven’t watched that movie.”

Chi Tang looked at each other at the same table herself for three seconds, she had no leisure or hobby and felt distressed. She immediately
quit the music, found the movie, and took her to sit on the side steps.

“Let’s watch it now. It’s a pity that you didn’t watch this masterpiece!”

You Yu could see that Chi Tang liked this animated movie.

Chi Tang: “I like Mr. Hayao Miyazaki’s series of works very much.”

The two of them leaned against each other to watch the little girl named Chihiro run, watch her crying while eating a rice ball, watch her ride on the tram and drive on the water, the scenery outside the window receding one by one.

The sound of rain and human voices all around had weakened. Gradually the rain stopped, and they sat here and watched the animated movie.

“Does it look good?”

“It’s good-looking.”

“Next time we’ll watch “Howl’s Moving Castle”.”

“Does it look good too, what are you talking about?”

“You’ll know by yourself, spoilers are boring. It’s almost one o’clock, let’s go
down the mountain to eat.”

They walked down side by side on the wet stone steps.

“Chi Tang, did Bai Long go to Qianxun later?”

“I think they will see you again.”

“That’s good.”

There was a park at the foot of the mountain, and the small supermarket in the park was full of students shopping. Most of the students brought bread and snacks, and You Yu also brought bread, but Chi Tang did not bring anything.

She bought water and a few sausages from the small supermarket and placed three in front of You Yu.

Chi Tang: “As long as you like “Spirited Away”, you are my half-sister. Today I will use these three grilled sausages instead of incense, and I will worship here…”

Hearing her start talking nonsense, You Yu couldn’t stop laughing. Chi Tang took advantage of the moment to stuff a piece of grilled sausage into her mouth.

You Yu finally stopped laughing, holding the grilled sausage, a little embarrassed, there was still a smile growing in her eyes.

Chi Tang… why is she so interesting.
