Eric’s foolishness was only known within the order of knights. Ella turned to Marie with a sympathetic look. Marie’s two role models were Ella as a woman and Eric as a man. She was the most shocked, as she had a crush on her own brother’s direct supervisor Eric. She always went to take a sneak peek at him, saying he was so manly and awesome. However, she was also the one who recovered from her astonishment the fastest.
“Lord Eric is so awesome! So he knew of Lady Ella’s beauty better than anyone else! He realized how she became so beautiful by the passing day! Isn’t that wonderful? Oh, Lord Eric is so perfect.”
Marie’s love for her was sometimes frightening. Ella frowned at Marie, who spun in place and spoke as if she was playing an act. It was hard to deny or accept what she said.
“Amusing girl,” commented Vylun.
“Thank you for saying that,” said Ella. She smiled as she replied to Vylun’s pure astonishment. She then quickly changed the subject. “Are you my escort knight, perhaps?”
“Yes. I will always be escorting you from here on out.”
He emphasized the word “always” more so than ever. It was as if it had some kind of meaning, so Ella had to ask back, “Always?”
“Yes,” answered Vylun.
“And my father agreed to that?”
The Duke’s concern and wariness toward Vylun weren’t going to disappear in a day. There was no way he would agree to it. Vylun smiled at Ella’s dubious expression and replied, “Of course. How could I be standing here if otherwise?”
“That’s true.” Even while Ella nodded to Vylun’s simple answer, she didn’t feel her question was answered. She made a bit of a frown, and Vylun let out a small sigh, noticing her change.

‘Does she know?’ Vylun was reminded of the Duke’s discomfort on his face when he was with Ella yesterday and what happened today. The Duke showed strong rejection of Vylun’s request to become his daughter’s escort knight.

“I won’t allow it,” said the Duke.
“Milord, please tell me the reason!”
Even at Vylun’s protest, the Duke stayed silent. It seemed his answer wasn’t going to change no matter what. “I told you my answer. Ella will be entering the palace soon. Just like our ancestors did, the family’s knights can escort her. So stop with your nonsense and get back to your work.”
But Vylun didn’t back down. If he were to give up here, he wouldn’t have come to Duke in the first place. “Do you think our knights can truly protect her against Count Willan?”
Vylun reminded the Duke of the dangerous look that man had. It was what made the Duke ask him to care for Ella. And that situation was still ongoing. It could’ve been different if Evan or Eric was here, but Evan didn’t return from his trip outside, and Eric was staying at the estate so he could take over the knight captain position.
Another way to deal with it was to tie Ella to the house, but the Duke‘s love toward her made him gullible to her request. When Ella entered the palace, she wasn’t going to be able to move freely as she could right now. He knew this, so he couldn’t tie her down to the house already.
“YOU!” The Duke yelled angrily, but Vylun was correct. The problem was already in his hands. Last night went okay without any trouble, thanks to Vylun, but what Dayson did yesterday made the Duke feel uneasy. Dayson’s eyes lingering over his daughter was beyond uncomfortable and was almost frightening. It looked even more dangerous to see a man who was always so gentle suddenly changing.
‘If Dayson hears about Ella going out, he’ll certainly come to meet her.’
