Part 1

MC’s POV

An unfortunate situation happened. I might've gone a bit too far at using my Clairvoyance because suddenly I felt a terrible pain in my eyes, just like you were stabbed with a needle, and then, every time I tried to use it again, the pain intensified.

It seemed that I would have to go blind from now on, or not exactly that bad, but it was still unnerving not knowing what was happening.

Did I perhaps rely on my ability too much?

...

...

...

A little anxious, I continued to walk along with the wardens. I could try to leave them to stand up for themselves, but then what? When this is over they will be onto me in no time.

One good thing though, it's that the more wardens there were, the less participation during a fight I got. Well, even then, not many prisoners were left and not many were looking to pick a fight with a group this big. It left me with enough time to fill my Ki reserves full. And to treat this uncomfortable feeling I have been sensing for a while now.

It is not hard to diagnostic that my body is feverish. The only thing that comes to my mind is... a side effect from the procedure in that facility. It would be a terrible problem if my body is reacting badly to what was done to me.

I can't get a moment to rest huh.

...

...

...

"There is something I am curious about." I suddenly said.

My selected conversation partner just gave me a side glance as we both walked, surrounded by wardens.

"Why exactly are you going along with us? You are not a fighter, and that could make it more dangerous for you. While those guys have no weapons whatsoever, they are still strong enough to take of a single human... No offense." I spoke.

"You are right... in pretty much everything you said. But staying alone would've been worse, don't you think?" The old man retorted.

Yeah, I don't exactly buy it.

"Sure..." I rolled my eyes at his answer.

"Kids should trust adults' words." The old man rightfully exclaimed.

No, even if you say that-

"Aren't you in jail? How can a kid consider you trustworthy?" I asked in a mocking tone.

The corner of his lips twitched in response and he didn't reply.

"Well, it is not like you stayed willingly... these guys have no plans to let us go just like that. Their suicide mission, they plan to include us... or rather, me." I spoke in a low tone.

I expected as much when they were discussing things a while ago.

I could try to sneak away at some point, and the best opportunity will be when they are distracted fighting. It might be heartless of me, but getting used does not make me happy. They will probably be able to take care of things on their own later.

"It looks that way, but I would also do so if I were in their position. Your firepower is not something they can simply ignore. It would be either make you help them or kill you so you don't join the other side. However, considering how bad is their situation, they decided to use you." The old man commented like it was not his business.

You speak like this has nothing to do with you... whatever.

"How much time do you think this will take? I have been wondering for a while, but it is strange considering the forces on the Underworld that they have not stormed in here and took those guys down." I inquired.

It doesn't have to be a Maou; I think there are plenty of qualified people (devils) that could solve this.

"You know nothing of how things work around here. The selection of prisoners in this place makes it hard for others to interfere. It is supposed to be outside any sort of influence from any nobility, and respond directly to the government, but as I told you before, those guys blindly trust that everything is working smoothly. *sigh* A kid wouldn't understand." The old man replied in an exasperated tone.

It is not that difficult to do so. I am not a kid.

...

...

...

My mind is filled with doubts.

How did things reach this point? It felt like at some point I had an idea but it slipped away from my grasp. Now I can't remember it no matter what I do.

I remember from detective novels I read before that sometimes, you have all the clues to solve a mystery and you don't have the answer because you have not considered things you saw before as clues. But there is no mystery here. They got tired of this place, and the prisoners looked for a way to escape. Yet... something bugs me. How annoying...

...

...

...

No matter how much you wish for something to not happen or that it just gets delayed, it will eventually happen.

Minutes of continuously walking and we're getting closer to where the prisoners were staying. It was not necessary to use my ability to know. Just from the sound coming from our front is enough to be able to confirm what is going to happen.

Without my ability, I am not able to see from my position, and I feel at loss because of that. During my 'stay' in that place, I got used to it... maybe a little too much.

I can use my Ki to sense my surroundings, but somehow... I think I might be rusted. There seem to be enemies nearby but I can't see anyone.

No... I... I might not be a smart cookie but I should've paid more attention to that. There is still that possibility.

Too late for regrets. Just be prepared for what is to come.

...

...

...

After arriving at an open space that is filled with tables and chairs everywhere, maybe a dining hall, there is a clear distinction of who is who.

It was pretty much impossible to arrive at this place without being seen, and these guys have not the kind of skills to make us enter without anyone noticing so we boldly walked in.

Several prisoners were being held in the middle of the dining hall. They were kneeling, bleeding everywhere, but they seemed to be alive as their expression brightened as soon as we arrived. Well, they got cloudy as soon they noticed the small number of people who came to their rescue though.

"Greetings to you all, wardens! And what it seems to be two fellow prisoners... although one doesn't look like he belongs to this place."

A voice was heard while I observed the prisoners being held... by other prisoners.

Turning my head to the origin, I saw a man that seems to be in his twenty, black hair and blue eyes. He spoke in a bright tone.

"And what do I own the honors of having been graced with your presence?"

That guy said with a mock bow.

"Stop your act, release those people and go back to your cell, that way, this will end peacefully."

One of the wardens that I first met spoke in a stern tone.

I don't think we have the upper hand here, and that means we can't make demands just like that.

"Oh, that is a bit of a complicated request you have made. I don't think I would like to do as you said..."

The guy replied with a thin smile on his face.

I looked around, but it was strange that everything was too quiet. No one else spoke. Honestly, it seemed eerie. Looking behind me, I could still see the path we took to arrive here opened. Yet, there was a sense of danger.

"Stop playing around, don't you know the consequences of your actions?"

The warden spoke harshly.

"But.... •I am not doing anything wrong, am I?•"

The guy spoke.

Suddenly, I felt an out-of-place feeling, it was rather strange. I could hear him say something... but... what was that? His words were-

"W-what? Of course, you are doing something wrong. Look around you! This is your doing...!"

Faltering a little, the warden still insisted.

For my part, I kept observing everyone. Stepping backward little by little, I watched warily their movements.

"Don't be like that, •Can't you see that everything was for a good reason? Yes, it is for a good reason so everything is ok. No need to be wary of me. In fact... Why do we have to fight?•"

In a sad tone of voice, the guy spoke.

Once again, I felt something strange, and after observing how some of the wardens lowered their weapons... I recalled that certain thought from before.

It was strange no matter how you looked at it. No matter how corrupted those guys were, releasing the prisoners wouldn't be enough unless they wanted to catalog as terrorists or something along those lines. However, what if they did for other reasons? Something simpler, no hidden agenda from some outside force or some carefully laid out plan coming from some crazy dude that is crazy for destruction. It can be simpler than that.

"•Why don't we get along? I wouldn't mind a hand even if it comes from you guys•"

In a kind tone, almost harmless, the guy said.

"I-I... I... Urgh. Stop it, everyone! Wake up! That guy is using some kind of ability on us!"

Hesitating between lowering his weapon or not, the warden who had been speaking so far took out a knife and stabbed himself on his leg.

From that yell, a few nearby wardens seemed to react and following his example, did the same to wake up from their stupor.

Watching this, I was convinced that things wouldn't go well from here on. I was rather curious at what method the guy was using but I was not going to stay here to chat with him.

"*Tsk* That is why I hate strong-willed guys, they are hard to fall for my words. The others were almost under my control as well. Ah ah, who cares? Everyone, those are enemies, you know what to do."

Like his expressions so far were a lie, the guy coldly spoke with an expressionless look.

Immediately, every prisoner even the ones who were being held in place started to walk our way. They seemed to lose all expressions for a moment after they heard those words but soon regained them.

The worst was when... some of the wardens pointed their weapons at their comrades too. I recognized those guys; they were the group with who we regrouped.

Taking a look around, I found that our escape route was already being quickly covered by the prisoners.

"So... Do you still think that helping them was a good idea?" I spoke sarcastically to the old man, who for some reason did not seem to be affected by the words of that guy even though the wardens were.

It was rather strange that it was like that, well; I am fine as well so that makes it stranger. I never saw myself as a strong-willed guy.

"You are never going to let that go huh... But I have to agree with you. This could be even worse than I originally thought. Was it mind control? No, hypnosis? He only spoke; I did not see any sign of a magic circle or spell. What was...?" The old man accepted my words and started mumbling about this and that.

"Who cares about that right now!? I will leave this place, what about you?" I asked as I created a few Kashas.

"Wait, I think that even if we hide... this won't end well! The old man replied.

No, what is this guy saying...? I do have the impulse to take care of that guy too but only a sneak attack would work will all the prisoners around him.

"Think about it, this situation is being created by that individual alone. If we took care of him here... everything will be resolved." The old man pointed at the guy from before.

I just stayed quiet. While it might be as he said, I already followed his idea once and this is where I found myself into. Yet, if I hadn't done so, I would never know what happened.

"Not interested, you can go and take care of him by yourself," I replied after thinking for a moment. I would have to go through way too many people to reach him, and I am not that strong to be able to wipe the floor with those guys, instead, they might wipe the floor with me.

Still, things were bound to complicate as we picked someone's interest.

"You there... Why are you with them? If they were threatening to follow their orders then there is no need anymore. Very few prisoners have resisted my words, you two are a rather strange pair but if they found the worth of keeping you around then you are surely useful. Why don't you come with me? It won't be easy to leave on your own." The guy spoke.

I felt like face-palming myself at this point.

"Oh, I have to thank you for your kind offer; we were in a really tough position. They planned to use us as meat shields and we could do nothing about it. I couldn't be more delighted hearing that, of course, we will come with you as we are already sick of this place." The old man used an expression like a man who went through many hardships.

The corners of my lips were twitching non-stop. This bastard changes his gears pretty quickly. Is he trying to suck up to him to make him lower his guard or is he just trying to change sides now that things got difficult?

"Hmmm... I can see that kid's use right away, but what about you?"

Staring at me and the old man alternatively the guy asked.

He probably is talking about my Kasha.

Well, it is not every day you get to see a kid with a greenish-blue flame wheel hovering above his hand.... huh? One of the Kasha looks slightly different.

"What are you doing? If you join that bastard, we won't show mercy either!"

Despite the situation, he found himself in, the warden still tried to press us to remain at his side.

Hearing his words, I stopped staring at my Kasha and turned to him. Even though he was being surrounded, he sure had the guts to pressure his only possible allies.

By my side, the old man took a moment to answer.

"I know a lot of useful things about this place, I had been planning to escape myself soon... but you beat me to it" The old man shrugged his shoulders.

Would you look at that?

"I will see about that... In any case, taking care of our 'friends' here is a priority. It would hurt to see you back down later so... Why don't you take care of them on your own? If you know what I mean..." The guy pointed at the wardens.

I furrowed my eyebrows at that. His intention couldn't be more obvious. Since we won't listen to his words like those people who seemed to obey him, he needs an assurance that we won't turn on him later. 'Taking care of the wardens means to kill them... If we kill a government official, our fate won't be anything nice.

"Haha, you can't be seriously asking that to a kid and a powerless old man, can you?" The old man laughed trying to pass those words as a joke.

Unfortunately, that guy did not seem amused.

"It doesn't matter to me..." He spoke in a dry tone.

The old man caught the hint and stopped laughing.

For my part... I considered what it would mean to do as he asked. I would be becoming enemies with the devils. There won't be a way to sugarcoat what I will have to do here.

"By the way... I have a question. What are you going to do when you leave this place?" I suddenly asked the guy.

"Me? I only want revenge against the devils. Those bastards sent me here because I put my hands on some servant girl. So much drama for that, just my luck, I had heard that devils were not exactly caring of their people but...*tsk* just remembering it pisses me off." The guy spoke in an annoyed tone.

That settles it.

"I see... I guess it will be like this after all." I swung my arms and threw my Kashas at that guy.

Well, either way, I never planned to become enemies with the devils. Although I am not sure how my actions so far will be seen.

"•Cover me•" The guy seemed to order some of the prisoners near him.

I got the same feeling from before as I heard him.

The prisoners immediately moved in front of him and took the attack head-on. Some of them were able to defend themselves using magic, but not all could do so and they took the hit with their bare bodies.

One thing I noticed was the effect of that different colored Kasha, it caused more damage than the others. Well, it looked that way. As I saw some of the prisoners being sent flying, I thought that it was the case.

"What stupid thing to do.... you can't expect anything from a kid. Leave no one alive". Safely protected behind a literal wall of prisoners that left no opening, I heard him say that.

"Sorry about that, I think you will meet your doom along with me," I said to the old man who was still beside me.

"That's some really grim choice of words, Shouldn't you be saying something like 'it will be ok, we will survive this?" The old man asked back.

I looked around us, surrounded by dangerous-looking people, being outnumbered is a big minus in the possibility of getting out of this one.

"Do you want the kid to be the reliable one in time like these? You must be joking..." I answered in a bitter tone.

Kinda wish that someone said those words to me right now.

I would say such a thing if it were Kuroka-chan or Shirone-chan, not some old man I barely met. Rias-chan and Sona-chan too... Hmmm, I feel like I am being extremely biased somehow.

I got no time to think about that though.

Pulling back the old man who was about it be hit by a prisoner, I positioned him behind me while I sent Kasha at the prisoner.

He took the full brunt of the attack but could move nonetheless, so with my reinforced body I sent a kick at his knee, forcing him to kneel due to the pain and the not-so-subtle sound that probably meant that I broke something. Now that his head was at arm’s reach, I took a stance with my feet firmly planted on the ground and pulled my right hand back, forming a fist... I threw a punch at his face. The hit sent him staggering backward before he fell no longer moving.

During all that, more prisoners moved to catch us so I could not take a breather.

"So, what is the plan now? I think you should just hide though...". Speaking to the old man as I created more Kashas, my attention was on my surroundings.

I can't even count the number of prisoners. Some of them are armed like the wardens. Not a mystery how they got those.

My goal is to leave before they start bombarding me with magic.

Turning my gaze to the guy who caused this, I saw him being 'escorted' to a farther place from where the melee was occurring. He just seems to be a human, and while I did not feel any magic or see a magic circle, he somehow is making all these people do what he wants.

"If we can reach the elevator area...." The old man turned to the place we came from and ran away.

Skillfully avoiding getting closer to anyone, he just went through a large number of prisoners. For my part, I took the opportunity to change from using Kasha, to forming claws of Ki extended from my hands. While Kasha might be more effective as it kept them away, some of them were using magic to avoid being hit. And that is just a waste of Ki.

Hesitating for a moment, I began slicing, scratching and cutting my way out.

...

...

...

After leaving that place, I felt slightly complicated that I abandoned those wardens. Biting my lips, I tried to keep those feelings in check as it was no time to think about it.

Before I knew it, I had lost sight of the old man, even if I ran at full speed with my reinforced body, it doesn't mean I would not notice if I passed him.

Thankfully, I recalled his words before we separated so I am not clueless of his whereabouts... although the question is whether I will look for him or not.

Hmmm....? I have something to take care of before that I guess.

Sending people after us, huh?

...

...

...

Advancing until I was again in the area where there were cells, I waited inside of one of them for my pursuers. I detected them vaguely before, so I could tell that they coming this way. Because of that, I prepared an 'ambush', if this can be called as such. Still, I wonder if I could use this opportunity to try a couple of things.

...

...

...

Well, I think that twenty people are a bit too much to send after an old man and a kid.

Nevertheless, I doubt that they will just listen to me a go back if I complain. Although the trickier part is that they send about four wardens as well. I have to be careful with those.

Taking a deep breath, I waited for them to get closer, and as they reduce our distance with each step, I reinforced my body, and I felt my strength go up... my confidence went up as well.

When the group is halfway passing me, I leap out of the cell I was hiding and kick my closest target on his leg. And while he bends in pain, I wish all my strength, push him against the people behind him hoping to break their march.

"Son of..."

With the small window of time that bought me, I turned around and send a fireball at the next closest guy to blind him. He managed to cover his face so the fire did not cause too much harm, but I aimed to obstruct his eyesight.

Quickly shaping the Ki in my hand to form a claw, I swept my arm horizontally to wound his stomach. Flinching from pain, his stance broke... and that's when I tackled him and made him lose his balance. Now on the floor, I was about to strike him again but I had to jump to one side as I was about to be hit by a rain of icicles.

"*Tsk* He avoided that."

Luckily for me, only a few of those managed to hit me and they were not able to pierce my Touki. But the prisoner whom I tackled was not so lucky as he ended up as a human(devil) porcupine.

"Surround him; he must not be left with any way out."

"Shut it, I don't take orders from you. We need to spread out he is a melee fighter, attack with magic from afar."

They seemed to be talking and discussing among themselves, but for me who was not paying attention to the just sounded like background music, a terrible one at that.

As I moved away, my gaze turned to the attacker. He was only the first one, one by one, magic circles were being created. Some had different colors so I imagined that there were going to be different spells thrown at me. At some point, they had backed away from my position... I wished to have my bow at this time.

Watching them carefully, I ran in their direction. If they are going to hit me, I will drag them along with me.

"Do not let him get close! Aim at his legs!"

"Is there anyone who can freeze the floor!?"

"If I had that much of ability I wouldn't have let them catch me."

Once again, I did my best to ignore them.

It did not take too long before the first spell came flying and I had to throw myself on the floor to avoid a disk of ice that came at full speed. Not sure if my Touki would be enough to withstand the attack... but I was not going to find out.

Hastily standing up, then jumping to one side to evade what I thought was a spray of water... or upon looking at the state of the floor and seeing how it was melting a little... I find out that it was acid.

Scary.

I moved the best I could to not let any attack land on me, focusing on every movement they did to be ready to evade. In less than a second, I avoided more than five different attacks, but I also managed to reduce our distance enough to kick the next guy on the stomach. And without stopping, I retracted my leg, to change it for my other one that did not fail to deliver a heavy blow.

I backed away and send a fireball at his unprotected face. Then I changed my target for the next one.

Not a moment of rest.

...

...

...

"You guys made this way harder..." I muttered in a tired tone as the last pursuer collapsed.

One way or another, I was able to take care of them. It was a troublesome fight as I was extremely careful to not harm the wardens more than necessary. As for the prisoners, well, I might've been a little rough, but they are big boys, they will get over it.

I did not particularly aim for their lives. There was something I wanted to confirm so I needed to keep them alive, making the fight harder.

During the battle, I was trying to test how strong the control that guy was had over them. But no matter what method I tried, they seemed to continue doing their stuff without stopping. No matter if I punched, kicked, burned or cut them. No harm made them react. I felt sickened at that, but after I finished the battle what bothered me more were my actions. I went too far even if I wanted to see whether the control over these people could be broken.

*Sigh*

Morality can wait, I guess.

Dragging the prisoners to a nearby cell, I put one on each cell, locking the door I had to use all my strength to bend part of the door so they stay there stuck. I am not sure if they will be able to escape later but at least this will keep them busy for a while.

The moment I got to the wardens, I checked their clothing in case I found something useful. But besides a pack of cigarettes and bubble gum, I only found air in their pockets. That guy must've emptied anything useful already.

Pondering for a moment, I wondered where I should be going now that these people were taken care of. I did not feel anyone else coming this way.

...

...

...

It did not take long for me to move to my next location. Keeping myself at a prudent distance, I wandered around the vicinity of the elevator. Prisoners were gathered there, but I failed to locate the old man. Not by sight, or just using Ki to locate him.

Briefly, I wondered if he took another route or if he was killed. I can't guarantee that after finding him the guy would want to get rid of him.

I transformed into a cat and got closer to see if I could confirm the whereabouts of that old man. He is the only acquaintance I have here, and with the slight debt I have for him saving me back there, I would feel bad if I didn't even confirm that.

But what I was when I got closer... made me want to have just stayed quietly somewhere else waiting for this to finish.

Ah, Can't I just go home already?

I swear, as soon as I get home, I will ask Yasaka-san for a mofu mofu festival again. I will also pat Kuroka-chan and Shirone-chan like there is no tomorrow.

Part 2

3rd Person POV

His stomach churned and he had to be mindful or he would just throw up what he had for breakfast.

It was not a matter of being used to this kind of thing, no matter how much you get used to it, it still affects you. But what made Sirzechs feel terrible was how they all ended up after going through the experiments. He was reading the files of the failed cases in the facility and that made him feel complicated.

...

...

...

Moments later after Grayfia left and having taken the Nekomata sisters personally to his parent’s mansion, he was called by his friend Ajuka. He thought that he would tell him what he found after checking what he sent. But he only heard him say ‘...You have to see this, and the conversation was cut so he just went to his friend's lab. Arriving he could tell that his mood was not the best as he was trying to suppress his anger. When Ajuka noticed his presence, he just handed him some files.

Reading those, he could understand his friend's feelings at the moment.

"From what I see here, there were quite a several experiments being made, but the report I received from that place says nothing about most of what I read," Sirzechs spoke.

Taking in his hand the small box that contained the things Sirzechs sent him, Ajuka pointed at it.

"This little thing you sent me contains a large amount of information, and from what I have analyzed so far, none of it seems to be fake, which makes me doubt how accurate that report you received before is. Also... two particular cases seemed to stand out from the rest so I prepared a more detailed file. It is... well, I think that you should read it first before saying anything else." Ajuka handed more files to his friend.

Repeating the process he just did, Sirzechs read, and while this one had a smaller amount of pages... he took a long time reading it.

"...I see. So this is what... then those two are... lastly he..." Sirzechs muttered to himself, before closing his eyes for a moment, and furrowing his brows.

Ajuka beside him did not say a word, he just quietly waited.

"Did you find anything else?" Sirzechs asked in a slightly colder tone mixed with anger.

"I thought you wouldn't ask. The most important information I could find in that storage device you sent was a certain list. I am not sure why did the guy who wrote it was so meticulous at everything he did, but it worked in our favor. Not only did he keep a record of the experiments he managed and participated in... but he had a very detailed record of his dealings with certain people..." Ajuka handed the last file he had prepared with a faint smile on his face.

While his mood was not very good right now, the words his friend said made Sirzechs curious so he began reading.

"I don't know where you got these, but with a little investigation and these records as proof, we can finally catch some rotten devils. What are you going to do?" Ajuka asked.

Taking a deep breath to calm his beating heart, Sirzechs did not ponder for long, recalling the words of that man he met long ago.

"'No mercy for those who might harm your family and friends' huh... I guess this is such a case. Not only for what it was done to that child but for all they have been doing. So far we lacked the means to touch them... yet, we have the opportunity now. It would be a shame to waste it, right?" Sirzechs replied using a firm tone.

Ajuka had a slight smile on his face, knowing who the one who said such words before was. While he and his people disappeared long ago, his words and actions at that time remained in the mind and hearts of many people (devils).

"Then, should I prepare a team to go and apprehend them?" Ajuka asked as he prepared to leave at once.

"No, it is important to go step by step. First... We should take care of those who erased evidence in that facility. But just to be sure... Could you go by yourself and check the scene? If it's you, finding a few more things might be possible." Sirzechs spoke.

"...I don't mind but... It might take a while. What are you going to do in the meantime?" Ajuka replied.

"Me? I want to make that the efforts of that child do not go to waste. From what I saw, some of those people will complicate everything, making it hard to do something about them even with all we have... that is why I will look for someone, with his help, this can be done." Sirzechs said, his gaze pointed at a particular direction when he spoke.

His friend could only widen his eyes in surprise at those words, as he did not expect that.

"Are you serious? He is the type who seeks peace at all cost; wouldn't he want to cover this up? Do you think he would support us?" Ajuka inquired and his tone carried disbelief.

*Sigh*

As he sighed, Sirzechs thought that there was a chance that it would not go as he wanted but-

You are reading story Highschool DxD: A new opportunity at novel35.com

"It is as you said, but... this time experiments have gone too far. The devil used on him, Bael household had a little story with her. So he will at least hear me out. Besides, he would usually try to hide this... But I won't let him." Sirzechs replied in a strong tone.

Noticing that his friend had no intentions of backing down, Ajuka was a little exasperated, but he will do as always, support him. Although-

"You should be careful though because that will probably look like a threat if you don't mind your words. Remember that you are going to ask for support, not to pick a fight." Ajuka could not help but say that with a wry smile on his face.

Blinking in doubt, Sirzechs began sweating when he carefully recalled his words.

*Sigh*

"...I will take care of that." He just teleported to his office after sighing in defeat.

Left alone in his lab, Ajuka muttered to himself.

"Why did they use that particular devil? Did they succeed? *Sigh* Nora Shiki, is it? This child will not be able to rest peacefully from now on..." Ajuka said as carefully stored that small box his friend had sent.

----------------------------------------------------------

Grayfia’s POV

Softly massaging her temple with her left hand, Grayfia was trying to keep a headache in check.

"What happened to take care of things peacefully?" Muttering in a low tone of voice, Grayfia watched the entrance of the prison.

Now destroyed, it had signs of being frozen in different parts.

Of course, it was not Grayfia's doing, while she was a user of ice magic, this was the result of her friend Serafall not holding back anymore. She could hardly blame her though. They were stopped at the entrance and were not given access. Even using the names of the Maou seemed to have no effect. Asking for Nora and being denied any sort of info was the thing that made Serafall storm in regardless of the consequences.

"...what is done is done. Since it has come to this, might as well take him out the hard way." Grayfia said in a tone like there was no other choice, but she found it refreshing to do something like this, the proof was the smile hanging on her face.

It was not the proper procedure, but it reminded her of him. Recklessly causing chaos for this kind of matter was rather common back then.

"Y-you... d-do you think you can do what you want because of your position? A-As soon as I fill a complaint, they will swarm at you guys."

A warden who was barely left conscious after Serafall's intrusion spoke.

At the warden words, Grayfia's smile faded and was replaced with an expressionless look. She let her demonic power overflow out of her body, causing the pressure around the area to increase.

"You say some interesting things, 'they'? As far as I recall, you are supposed to respond to the Four Maous, and from the way you talk... you are not talking about any of them. Now then... explain to me... What is this about?" Grayfia spoke in a chilling tone.

While she looked for Nora, Grayfia had found enough resistance to make her think that there was something fishy going on. However, she only had something at the level of insubordination at most... yet, having a warden speak like that, there seemed to be more than what it looked like on the surface.

"A-Are you t-threatening m-me? D-don't make me l-laugh, you wouldn't dare to do anything. Aren't you already in a bad position due to your origins? Many devils already doubt you because you were close to that group of crazy-"

A little scared at the beginning, the warden started speaking more confidently until he had to stop abruptly because a terrifying and heavy killing intent had targeted him.

"I don't mind when you speak ill of me but never, ever... speak about them like that. Understood?" Grayfia said.

The already frozen ground by Serafall was being covered by another layer of ice as her demonic power unconsciously took form.

Noticing that the frost was beginning to cover him, the warden paled in fright. He opened and closed his mouth trying to say some words but he was not able to. Yet, the ice did not stop spreading so he worked hard to speak.

"U-understood... J-just stop, p-please-e!"

Begging he said.

Although those words were not enough to put her in a good mood, Grayfia did not take it any further and controlled her temper a little.

"I won't give you a second chance. Nevertheless, since you are feeling regretful about what you said... how about you tell me what I want to know?" Grayfia did her best to sound compassionate and even tried to smile, but her eyes did not seem to follow her intentions.

Blaming himself for not fainting at the beginning, the warden regretted speaking those words. One glance at his colleagues he saw them knocked out, no, on a closer look some of them were trying fake unconsciousness despite the cold. Since he was going to fall, he was not going to do so alone.

"Of course, I will, but my colleagues there would surely offer more information than me."

Wearing a flattering smile, the warden spoke while pointing at his 'fallen' colleagues.

Turning her sight to where he was pointing, Grayfia could tell the state they were in. She was not going to make it harder for them since Serafall had gone a little overboard already but if they have useful information-

"Stand up; I know that you are fine. Join this man over there. I will have you tell me everything." Grayfia spoke in a firm tone that made it impossible for anyone to say anything back.

Part 3

MC’s POV

It felt odd that someone who could control people through words to keep hostages, but it seems it was all for appearance’s sake.

After arriving at the elevator's area, I found that the guy was already there with his followers or controlled mob, and the supposed 'hostages' from before were neatly information like the rest of the prisoners and wardens.

If this guy escapes... it gives me the creeps just thinking what kind of things he could do. Although he seemed to have a problem controlling some people, such as some wardens from before or myself as an example... it wouldn't matter if he can grasp people's weakness and exploit it.

The worst is that it is not possible to confirm if his control can be broken. I was not able to do it after some simple tests, but the question reminds me if a method exists.

Should I stay seated and do nothing?

-----------------------------------------------

3rd Person POV

One look at everything in front of him and Marcus was satisfied. Having been caught years ago for his actions had left him with a deep grudge.

He discovered the supernatural world during his childhood by mistake after escaping from the orphanage once. He got involved many times in that world and ended awakening something he learned that was called 'Sacred Gear'. While he learned what it was called, he did not get anyone to teach him how to use it. His ability had no attack power by itself, but it helped to give credibility to his words, people would be convinced of what he said and do what he asked if used the right words. Although not everything went smoothly, there were many limitations to his ability. Not everyone fell for his words and more than once he suffered the backlash of it, but years of practice were enough for him to master its use little by little.

Growing up, he arrived at that age where he was interested in the opposite sex. And since no one could oppose him, he tried to use his ability to get more 'familiar' with women. It went terrible; the restrictions of his ability stopped him from going too far. Outside stimulus broke his ability's power.

Instead, he went for a different route. If his abilities were not enough... he had to obtain enough money to not need to use his Sacred Gear, but it was a vicious circle as he was already used to relying on his ability too much. Raising such a large amount of money was bound to take a while... and it had consequences, people started to notice him. Without other choices, his life on the run started. Mixing with all kinds of people he was able to accomplish his goal with women, but he was hardly happy. Relying on money made him feel empty.

The time arrived when he made another wrong move. Involving himself with a wealthy family he planned to take their money but he ended up being interested in one of the maids working there as a servant. A lot of time had gone by since he last failed picking up a woman so he was rather confident. But as he used money as a medium too many times, and those who got close to him were seeking only that, he became overconfident in his actions and went too far.

At last, he bothered people whom he shouldn't have. Escaping was impossible... thus he ended in prison. Even when he never informed them, they learned of his sacred gear and restricted its use. Days became weeks, weeks became months... and months became years. He spent a long time in this place; with each day a grudge directed at those who sent him here was consuming him until finally one day he seemed to have reached a new level. His Sacred Gear responded to him and granted him power up to his ability, enough to work even when they had restricted its use.

For now, he planned to get away as far as he can, but he did not forget to use his strengthened power to create new pawns that would be helpful in the future. When he thinks the time is right... a little revenge wouldn't hurt.

It took a while to bring everyone he had put under control to the elevator area. He had managed to put most of the wardens from this floor under his control so he was able to prepare a good force that would allow him to break free... and during the chaos, he would get away.

Thinking about his plan, Marcus smiled. While he found a little resistance from time to time, he was able to pull off his plan. Preparing to open the elevator's door, he turned his sight downwards. Right there, he found a small black cat, seated staring at him in the eyes, one green and one blue eye. It seemed somewhat familiar to him.

Blinking in surprise, his first thought was about why was a cat here, but on further thought, he recalled where he was and that a cat should not be here. Before he was able to take some distance, the small cat quickly transformed into someone, a child.

Marcus remembered then, what he found familiar in the cat were its eyes, the same as the child in front of him.

"Anyone, •Come here at deal wit-•"

He tried to command the mob under his control but a sudden pain in his stomach made him stop.

Looking down, he could see a hand digging into his stomach. It was deep enough to feel inside, but he shivered not at the pain but eyes staring back at him.

He never noticed before, no, they did not look like this before. But those eyes were too eerie, coming from a child that kind of stare was not normal.

"Will you please die? I don't think you want to quietly go back to your cell so I thought that I should skip a few steps and deal with you as this" Nora said in a flat and monotonous tone.

It gave him the chills to hear that, but he pushed back his fear with the anger he felt at being stopped when he was so close to leaving this place.

"Why!? Why are you stopping me? I was going to free us all; you could've taken this opportunity to leave too."

Trying to force that hand out his stomach and failing, Marcus tried to speak with the child to distract himself from the feeling in his stomach.

"That is a lie. You had no such intentions, otherwise... you would have taken another path. Instead, you did all this, but your reasons don't matter, to be honest. I won't try to justify myself either... at this point, I don't think I am better than you. Perhaps... my actions are an unconscious desire my body has. To stop you, to remain here, where someone like me should be..." Nora spoke while finally pulling his hand out.

It could've been because of the blood loss, but Marcus had no idea what this child was saying. It seemed pure nonsense. Instead of paying closer attention to the meaning of those words, he backed away, although he was followed closely by his attacker.

"•Kill him, don't l-• Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

Marcus once again tried to use his Sacred Gear's ability to command the controlled prisoners only to fail as a fireball was thrown on his face. He then used a hand to cover his face and one to cover his bleeding stomach.

"Hmmm, so as long as your words are stopped midway you can't order them around huh. I see." Nora maintained a close distance.

Hearing those words, Marcus panicked. One of his weaknesses was revealed just like that. Along with his wound, and the fear he had for death, it put him in a strange state. Once again he could feel his Sacred Gear responding to his emotions. With determination to live... and to kill the child in front of him, he leaped sideways, near some of the controlled prisoners, and while he took one of them as a shield-

"•Kill him!!!•" He yelled his next instruction.

Unfortunately, he spoke in the wrong order.

When he took action just now, Nora followed right after him, and while he bought time by using a prisoner as cover... It was only enough to stop the child for a moment.

"This is why they say that you never must leave an opening..." Nora said that, while he had created two Kashas which he had thrown right away.

That moment when those green and bluish flames have arrived close to him, made Marcus recall every action he took since he got his sacred gear. He was not able to understand how things had come to this point. Was he in the wrong? He just used his power because he could... was that something bad?

Carrying such thoughts, he felt the flames burning him. He was not allowed to even scream as the speed they burned him was too fast. That also left his questions unanswered.

---------------------------------------------------------

MC’s POV

Watching that guy being consumed by my Kasha, my feelings were complicated. I tried to keep my emotions in check but in the end, I could only hold it until he was dead. Still, I had no time for sentimentalism. His last words were a death sentence for me. I was able to get close as a cat by avoiding being noticed, but I think they did not react because they were not particularly ordered to catch anyone or maybe I was able to hide my presence better than I thought.

Glancing around, I tried to look for an escape route but as expected, it won't just appear because I wished for it. These guys who looked like mindless puppets just after hearing that last order are now regaining their emotions, but they are probably not recovering their sanity. It is never that easy.

First, one of them turned his head my way... then they all did. It was unnerving.

Hesitating over killing or not is not going to cut it now. So I created Kashas as my life depended on it (it probably does), and before they attacked me, I struck first.

...

...

...

Jumping backward to evade a rising fire pillar that rose from my late position, I had to immediately duck to avoid being caught by the hands of a prisoner. Quickly turning myself to face him, instead of creating several icicles and sending them his way, I created only one on my hand, which I grabbed and used to stab him.

"Ghuuuck"

"He is attacking  Nick, direct your attacks that way!"

"Who the heck is Nick!? How am I supposed to know where that b*stard is!?"

Their words went from one ear to another.

Thinking about it, I always used the Youjutsu spells I learned in the same way they taught me, but this situation has made me rethink the usage of the spells. I changed the way I employ them, to fit more my current needs.

Although that doesn't change that I am at a huge disadvantage. They have gone bonkers and their numbers do not help either.

"Seal his movements! He must die!"

Their words are so heartwarming, and encouraging (not) that I have no choice but to keep going.

...

...

...

Looking below me, a magic circle had formed before I was aware of it. Having seen a similar sight rather often, I knew what this was about.

Crossing my arms in front of me, I stopped the punch of a prisoner. With my hands, I grabbed his arm and pulled him to swap our positions. A second later, he was impaled by an earth spike that rose from the magic circle.

"What are you doing!? You are supposed to kill that kid, stop with the friendly fire."

"Don't give me orders; if you can do better, you better do it yourself."

Despite their yells and shouts, their offensive on me never stopped. The only good thing is that they don't all get along, meaning that some of them don't care about hitting each other instead of me.

Suddenly I felt a chill and as I prepared to leap from where I stood up, a hand caught my arm. The strength would've broken a bone if I had not protected myself with Touki.

"Hehe, caught you."

Creepily muttering those words, like some deviant catching his prey, I turned to see who did that but I could not see anyone.

"What a shame, even though you are a Youkai like me, it seems you are not experienced at fighting your kind."

In a moment, the figure of the speaker appeared in front of me.

Illusion? Invisibility? I briefly wondered what method he used, as I failed to sense him too, but I did not stop moving my hands, quickly creating a Kasha and slamming it in the arm he used to grip me.

"Arghhhhh! You!!"

I did not waste the instant he let go of me to take distance from him.

I would've had gone to finish him off but he was not my only enemy. Recognizing a magic circle that appeared almost at my face, I paled, compressing Ki at an incredible speed I let it burst from the sole of my feet while I jumped sideways to avoid... an acid mist. An unlucky warden nearby was hit and he melted before he was able to cry out.

Cold sweat ran down from my back, and I was forced to recall that I was fighting for my life once again.

...

...

...

The continuous fight was taking a toll on me. I had no escape routes as they sealed them by raising an earth wall on one side, and the only other way to leave had an ice wall.

Their determination to kill me is impressive I must say.

...

...

...

How many have I killed? I lost count. To begin with, I think more of them have died by 'friendly' fire than by my hands. Yet, their numbers are still high. My body is not in a good shape either. Wounds have piled up, only having time to lightly heal me.

...

...

...

I was sent flying as I missed a guy who rammed into me. My vision blurred for a moment so I was not able to react fast enough.

...

...

The number of times I fail to evade are going up... only following my instincts when the danger is too much is what allowed me to avoid critical hits.

...

...

...

I reached my limit, with that, my body is barely standing, but I can't move a finger.

"Finally, I say... he was more annoying than I thought. He took with him too many people."

"Ha! You say funny things, half of those who died were you b*stards doing. Don't you know how to be careful!?"

"Leave it at that, you can kill each other later. We must kill him first."

"*Tsk* I will do so... But, it is still frustrating how much trouble he caused. Can't I beat him to death? He will die either way so I can at least do something fun."

"Only you would think that doing that is fun... Very well, he already has a foot on the grave anyways."

"Haha, thanks!"

I heard them speaking but my eyes had trouble focusing on who spoke those words.

At that moment, I did not care about what they said anymore. My body was in pain, but it was not as bad as what Naberius did. Thinking that this might be my last moment alive... I tried to feel every last bit.

Ignoring the pain, I tried to focus on everything else. The cold floor seemed to freeze and... huh? Cold? Isn't it too much? Where is this cold coming from?

My thoughts were cut short as a foot sank on my stomach. The result was easy to imagine, my body bent unconsciously and it was sent backward rolling on the floor.

...

...

My consciousness was blurry, the pain was fading. Still, the cold did not leave my mind. Is it what people feel when they are about to die I wonder? I died once but it was different at that time.

"Hey, still not done? You have been at it for a while now"

"Shut up, he just doesn't die. He is really tough... By the way, who is the idiot that is cooling this place? It is freezing."

"No one is doing that, can't you see that everyone is just waiting for you to finish?"

"You are so annoying, why don't you come and help me? It lost all the fun when he stopped reacting."

"How pathetic of you, you can't even kill a helpless child..."

They seem to be fighting among each other now. Should I be flattered because it is about me? I would like if girls fought were the ones fighting about me not some dudes though.

-----------------------------------------------

3rd Person POV

Tired of stomping and hitting the target, one of the prisoners had asked other people for help.

While it was strange that wardens and prisoners were 'working together, it was a temporary measure until they took care of the now half-dead youkai.

A small group of people consisting of warden and prisoners prepared to finish Nora when a sound was heard that stopped everyone in their tracks.

Their reaction was not strange since it surprised them, as far as they know, that door had to be closed, but the sound was the proof that it was about to be opened. Everyone turned their gaze at that place.

Some of them wondered if anyone was taking the opportunity where everyone was distracted to flee. But the smarter ones knew that it was not possible as they all could not do anything else at the moment other than killing that Youkai. Lastly, the ones with sharper instincts had a feeling that everything was going south real soon as they felt their hairs standing up and the need to flee was constantly flashing in their heads.

*Pin*

Such a nonchalant tone was heard and the doors to the elevator were opened. The first thing they felt was a wave of cold air and almost everyone tilted their heads in confusion at the clothing that the person who arrived had.

"That kind old man told me he would be around here... but I am not sure where. Hmmm, I rushed here, yet I still can't find him."

Carrying a pondering expression the person who arrived just looked around

There was hardly anyone here who did not recognize that face, and strangely many recognized her because of her clothing.

"Why are you guys stopping? We are so close to..."

"Shhhh! Do you have a death wish!? She is..."

Turning her gaze, the young woman who was still standing inside the elevator began observing her surroundings. Even when she saw a large number of prisoners and wardens around her she did not feel fear, only furrowing her eyebrows in confusion.

She took all the information that her eyes could see in seconds, having seen similar situations on the upper floor and it was then when she saw him. She tightened the grip on the small wand she had. The young woman knew how he was supposed to look like, she had seen sketches, pictures and above all, she had heard her beloved little sister describe him many times. He certainly looked very different, completely beat up and bleeding everywhere, but she could tell it was him.

It was at that moment that she felt... rage.

"So-tan's friend... How dare you..." The young woman angrily spoke.

She received many confused stares, but she did not care. What was in front of her was against everything she believed. She believed in peace and she wished to protect it. She loved children's smiles, and she always did her best for that. She loved her little sister dearly... and had vowed to protect her.

Her beloved So-tan asked for her help to find her friend she said. So she did as asked and started to look for him. It was So-tan's request... and she wanted to lend a hand not only because she was an ally of children, but because she owed it to him. She never got to meet him, but she knew that it was that child who protected her little sister when she could not. That is why she did her best.

Nevertheless, it was not only until today that there was a clue of his whereabouts. When she heard that, she was happy... until she listened further about what happened. She wanted to go on a rampage, but it was not going to help, instead, she waited for more detailed information. Once she got it the young woman moved. Arriving here was not pleasant as many people tried to stop her so she... just stormed in.

In the end, she found this when she arrived.

"I-isn't that bad-d? She looks very pissed!"

"Of course it is bad, you dumb*ss. Someone stall her! I will ki-"

"...kill? I see. So this is all about. You are not just bullies who ganged on hitting a helpless child for fun, you wanted to take things further. I see. You are all bad. So... I do not need to hold back!" The young woman exclaimed. Following her words, the surrounding air got colder and colder. Raising her small staff, the young woman just pointed it in front of her, and as if to follow her command, spikes of ice burst around the beat-up youkai.

"I-I think w-we should run-n!!"

"Do you think she would let us? Haaah, I thought this was going to be my lucky day..."

Prisoners frightened voices and complaints were heard.

"At least we won't have to take care of the prisoners now. It seems she will at least be of some use."

"Indeed, I wonder if we should finish the kid while she is busy dealing with the others."

"Isn't that asking to be killed? We should leave the prisoners do it in our stead."

"She wouldn't harm us. They are criminals so it’s fine to erase one or two of them and if she goes overboard... It is not our problem"

The wardens seemed nonchalant; they were not expecting to be attacked. Their minds were into ending the child's life.

The more she listened to, the more her anger rose.

"All of you... Just <Freeze>" The young woman muttered simple words.

Starting from those near her, they first feel the temperature lowering at an incredible speed and then... they felt nothing more. In just seconds they became ice statues. The same occurred to the people next to them, and then to those next to them, regardless of their identity.

The wardens who were not expecting this did not even have time to raise objections as they became ice statues before they could.

Only one place remained safe. It was at the place where the young youkai lay on the floor.

Taking a deep breath, the young woman tried to calm down her emotions. She had not killed anyone, but it was not out of kindness. Many questions needed to be answered and whether she liked it or not, she needed them for that. Their futures will be decided after they say what it is needed to know.

Hastily walking to pick up her little sister's friend, she saw him trying to stand up, only to fail and fall back. Such a sight brought her immense sadness. Picking him up, she held him carefully.

"S-Sera-tan?" The child, Nora, mumbled.

The young woman blinked in surprise at that, she had never met him so she did not expect to be called by a nickname and much lesser to hear that suffix attached to it, but she did not dislike it. She would like that her little sister started to call her like that too.

Shaking her head, she stood up and prepared to bring the child away.

Part 4

MC’s POV

Blurry as it was, my eyesight caught something.

At some point, the prisoners stopped. I wondered briefly why that happened but I was surprised when spikes of ice rose around me. My first thoughts were that it was an attack, but no harm came to me.

Seconds later, I stopped hearing noises.

I took a breath at that... it seemed that help arrived, although I was not sure who came. To take care of things so easily that person had to be considered powerful.

Footsteps were heard and I tried to stand up to see who my Savior was. I must say, I tried.

Failing miserably when I tried to stand up, I stopped when I felt a pair of arms holding me up and the feeling of being held against someone's chest. The soft sensation was a sharp contrast with all I had been feeling before. Although I was not able to fully enjoy it as I could hardly feel my body unharmed, many places ached from the beating I took.

Raising my head to finally see who I owed my safety... I thought that I must've been hit pretty hard. Because what I think I saw was an angel. No, I blinked my eyes to focus more and-

"S-sera-tan?" I unconsciously mumbled in a weak voice.

I sure was not expecting her of all the people to come here.

Not an angel, but a devil. No, one of the Four Maous, the Maou Shoujo came to save me. Serafall Leviathan... Sera-tan.

Ah, I blurted that nickname. I wonder if she did not like... it.

I think that now that the pressure is gone my body is relaxing. The exhaustion is kicking in or I am just dying, I will try to optimistically think I will not kick the bucket.

What a shame, I won't be able to enjoy this rare event where Sera-tan holds me in her arms. I was always a fan of her-

Too... bad.

---------------------------------------------------

3rd Person POV

In a studio, inside a castle rather difficult to reach, were two individuals discussing certain topics.

"...You should know that I left my position to a younger generation. Even if you tell me about it..." A man spoke in a dignified tone of voice.

The only other individual inside the studio did not change his expression even when he was being told that. After all, Sirzechs expected such a thing.

"Just take a look at this, and you can decide whether to lend a hand or not." Sirzechs handed a file to the man.

Not taking the file immediately, the man, Zekram had a feeling that he should take a look, but at the same time, he could feel that reading that would change many things.

In the end, he took it and began reading.

His face, having remained calm and composed for a long time... changed.

"...Very well. This is an issue serious enough to consider your words, although I do have a few conditions." Zekram said.

Blinking in surprise, Sirzechs was surprised at how easily he agreed. Although he did not say he will help. The man in front of him did not outright deny his request. Narrowing his eyes warily, he wondered what this man would want in exchange. He said he had conditions.

"What kind of conditions?" Sirzechs asked.

"...I want to meet these two children. And about how you plan to deal with their involvement, I wish that you include me when you are about to decide what to do." Zekram replied.

"I won't allow any harm to befall on them. They had enough" Sirzechs instantly said, fearing for their safety.

"Worry not. I have no interest in harming them. Even if I had, I wouldn't ask you to bring them to me." Zekram calmly spoke.

Those words did not put Sirzechs at ease.

"Why?" Sirzechs inquired.

"I just want to talk, only that," Zekram replied.

Sirzechs did not exactly buy it, but in the end, the man in front of him could arrange a meeting with Nora and Kuroka without the need to go through him. It could be called an act of goodwill and trust that he is using such around way to do this.

"They had a bad time, so if you could give them some time before the meeting happens..." Sirzechs muttered.

"I understand. I am in no rush." Zekram said.

The discussion stopped at this point, Zekram Bael did not speak another word so Sirzechs had no choice but to leave, and wait for a reply.

Having said his last words to Sirzechs, Zekram remained silent until the former left.

"What a terrible thing to happen right under my nose. I wonder if resigning from my position was not the right choice. Still, I did not expect to hear from her again, even if her body was used in an experiment. *sigh* That child... his life will be full of difficulties, well, that is if the experiments were successful.", Zekram muttered in a melancholic tone but did not say anything more after that, staying seated with his eyes closed.
