∆ Part 1

The next day... I felt refreshed. It healed me to have that time with Yasaka-san. Not only that, at night I had the opportunity to get snuggled by two kitties... the black one seemed to have problems deciding whether to kick me or hug me though.

It kind of worries me where their current affection for me will lead them. I wish them to be free and not to be tied by me because they know no one else. However, it pisses me off thinking that someone else gets to hang up with them. What a complicated feeling.

Such useless thoughts bothered me after waking up refreshed, so I did not feel like staying laying on the futon any longer.

Carefully untangling myself from the Nekomata sisters... I went to do a light route of training. Today was the day where I planned to look for Akeno and Shuri. If things go wrong... it might become a fight. I don't want it to get to that point but if the other side doesn't listen, I won't be polite.

My options are limited for now so I want to prepare for different scenarios.

Briefly recalling the meeting I had a few days back, there was one thing I could leave prepared on this site, with my power(money). Although I will ask for a couple of favors from the big shots just in case. Failure is not an option after all.

...

...

Exhausting my 10th quiver of arrows, I stopped practicing archery. Not moving, I wondered what could I do to improve my skills with the bow. In the fight against Forest Wraith, it became useless. This is not the first time it happens so I can't help but be worried about the future.

It also left me questioning what to do to improve in other areas. Those damned notepads. In the end, Shirone-chan's one is the only one who can be said to contain the biggest possibility to upgrade my strength... if I could do that, I could go further than my current abilities. Yet, after a light read, it doesn't seem to be any easier than my air steps. It is harder.

I would like to retort about the contents, in particular Kuroka-chan's ones, but complaining won't help me.

Expecting an easy to learn and use, but powerful technique is absurd.

Maybe Yasaka-san or even Kasen-san could lend me a hand here.

On second thought... I should still check what Kuroka-chan got.

...

...

A few minutes later, I was prepared to leave... along with Kuroka-chan who did not take a no for an answer this time.

The kitty is tough, even though I planned to leave while they slept... she woke up somehow.

"I will go-nya". Stubbornly exclaimed Kuroka-chan. "You promised to do what I asked-nya".

Damn, she hasn't eaten yet and she is full of energy.

Did I dig my own grave here?.

"...What about Shirone-chan?". I asked expecting this to make her falter.

"Nya!? I forgot... Shirone-nyaaaa!". Shouted Kuroka-chan as she ran to my room.

Leaving is easy... but I will bring them along, I just have to protect them.

...

...

Minutes later, the party was set to go. Although Shirone-chan was asleep, clinging on my back. So I will have to carry the kitty.

One thing I was glad was that she hid her ears and tail, it would surely raise many questions if she had those out in the open.

"Hmmm, I think we need different clothes. We will attracting too much attention like this". I commented to Kuroka-chan as we walked around Urakyoto.

I was about to confirm some details with Yasaka-san. Getting the latest update on the  Himejima pair status would be useful.

"But I like this one-nya. Nora-nya gave it to me as a gift-nya". Said Kuroka-chan, as she looked at her haori and hakama.

She looks like a Shrine Maiden like that. A lovely Shrine Maiden.

"I will buy it for you, so it will be a gift too". I replied smiling wryly.

What a silly girl.

"Ok-nya. Will Nora-nya choose it too-nya?". Asked curiously Kuroka-chan.

Eh...

"I think it is time you try to do that on your own. Show me how much you have grown!". I exclaimed righteously.

She got more eye for this than me, the last time I took her to buy some things... I noticed that her fashion sense is better than mine. Although that itself is not hard.

...

...

Having to wake up Shirone-chan to buy her share had to be done, and while I felt reluctant, I.... had Kuroka-chan do it.

The black kitty bought a black one-piece dress, with a golden ribbon tied on her waist, for herself. It had a simple design, but the wearer had enough charm to make it look great. The white kitty took upon herself to choose a black culotte short pants along with a white shirt, and... a black cap with cat ears. She was dead set on getting it. Her camera was hanging on her neck, something that she kept hidden until she changed her outfit.

I did not complain as they both looked cute. But Kuroka-chan wanted to choose something else for her little sister.

For my part... I just went with a black hooded sweater and green cargo pants.

It took us a while so I considered the idea to carry different changes of clothes inside my ol' pouch, which I prepared since I was already here. Besides my bow and arrows, the accursed pills that work as a meal, throwing knives, and tons of sweets I carry for the girls... and clothes were just added to the list.

...

...

When we arrived at the building that can be considered the center of Urakyoto, made for the one leads, we were guided by Asamiya-san who was waiting for us at the entrance and going through several rooms. A moment later, we arrived at Yasaka-san's location.

"You guys took longer than I expected... and I can see why". Said Yasaka when she saw us enter her office.

I considered it like that as she has a desk and chair full of documents to read and sign in approval or disapproval.

"Sorry, I should've prepared in advance. On that note... Can I ask for a couple of favors?. I need to use a large amount of money so as my guardian could I have your permission?". I spoke.

Feeling a bit sorry to start the conversation with this, but I had used too much time already. At this rate, I won't be able to leave today.

The catgirls, one clinging on my back and the other one grabbing my hand, just remained silent during the exchange just like I had asked them before.

Tilting her head to one side in a cute manner, Yasaka-san seemed to ponder my words for a moment.

"....I don't mind since it is your money. But... Why?". Curiously inquired Yasaka-san.

The questions came up as expected.

"I want a house. The best one you can get... You can try looking here, I coincidently meet these guys". I answered at once while giving Yasaka-san the card I received from kesaran-pasaran.

Bringing them here is my last option, as interfering is already something that might sour relationships between exorcists and youkais, giving them a place in Urakyoto would make them trouble Yasaka-san more.

"I could get you one without having to use your money but... *Sigh* Very well, I will have someone make the arrangements. Did you want something else?". Asked Yasaka-san with a wry smile.

Your hand in marriage was the phrase that coursed through my head but I swallowed those words. One step at a time.

"Can you contact... Venelana-san?". I timidly requested.

The wry smile was erased from her face, replaced by a sullen look.

"Don't tell you were not joking...?". "No, no, it is nothing like that. You can also call Sirzechs-san, but I thought that a Maou would be busy so...". At her words, I interrupted her hastily.

Man, that was a joke. But she got more bothered by it than I thought.

"Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Ok, I will contact, him! Listen, him! Not Venelana-san". Spoke Yasaka-san. "And... Do you want me to say something in particular to him?".

It was my turn to smile wryly. This woman.

"I want to have a conversation with him, if it's possible. Tell him that it is important". I muttered.

In response, Yasaka-san furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, then her expression eased.

"I can arrange that, although if he is busy... it will be Grayfia-san whom you will end up talking with. Is that ok?". Replied Yasaka-san in a more serious tone.

Her face tells me that she understood my reasons.

"Yeah. Thanks... Now the only thing left is... an update on the mother-and-daughter pair status". I asked.

"Why don't you wait outside, I will have prepared the communication token for you to contact the Maou. And you can hear about those two on the way". Replied Yasaka as she stood up and walked out of her office.

Wait, if it's on the way... who will be telling me if you go.

...

...

"You surely did not expect this, right!?". Exclaimed a too excited for her own good...

. kitsune.

It took almost nothing for a certain fox girl to arrive wearing a green cardigan over a black shirt and jeans that were rather tight, an outfit that could hardly hide her body line.

That itself was not a problem, but if I put the pieces together... it took me almost nothing to conclude that Yasaka-san had planned to send her all along.

Watching Shizuku-san carrying a smug expression somewhat annoyed me. But... I can't deny that I felt a little nervous to take the girls alone.

A helping hand is always well received.

"No, I did not expect it!". I tried to sounds as surprised as possible.

"Nora-nya.... You don't sound surprised at all-nya". Spoke Kuroka-chan as she pulled my hand to get my attention.

"Your face isn't showing it". Said Shirone-chan who climbed my back to stare at my face from her position.

How could this be!? I thought I had perfectly acted the part.

Well, the dissatisfied expression on Shizuku-san's face tells me that I failed.

Shaking my head, I stopped my nonsensical thoughts.

"Enough jokes then, Shizuku-san. Do you have what I asked to Yasaka-san?". I inquired.

Nodding at that, she took out a wooden token and handed it to me.

"This will connect with the Maou Sirzechs-sama, or his Queen if he is busy. Take that into account. The information regarding those two was entrusted to me. You can ask me and I will answer". Shizuku-san spoke as she adopted a more professional-sounding tone.

Observing the token, my thoughts were complicated. But I got rid of them and turned to Shizuku-san.

"Let's leave at once, you can update me on the way. Tell me all you know". I muttered as I put the token in my pouch.

"Where are we going-nya?". Intervened Kuroka-chan while raising a hand.

You wanted to come without even knowing?.

Before I was able to reply, Shizuku-san spoke.

"Tokyo, if you would like... We can get there by train". Replied Shizuku-san.

Eh?.

This time, I spoke first.

"Can't we be taken there by using magic?". I hastily said.

There is no way I can ride that accursed invention.

Shaking her head at my question, Shizuku-san started to look like a terrifying executioner instead of a cute girl.

...

...

Leaving Urakyoto...

"Call Sanada, the b*start took your money not me".

"Okaa-san, I don't want to go to school!".

"Onii-sama, this way. With so many people, those people won't be able to find us".

The voices of the people passing by hit me. I did my best to ignore the ones that sounded like trouble. But I couldn't help but turn my head to the last one, only catching the back of two blonde individuals. They had exorcist outfits like the church people I met back them so it raised my guard, but since they walked the other way we were supposed to go, I relaxed a bit.

"This way, Shiki-sama. Riding the bullet train would make the travel faster". Said Shizuku-san.

She who had hidden her tail and ears still attracted attention due her beauty. No, not only her. Many were staring at Kuroka-chan and Shirone-chan as well.

Distracting myself from that, I tried to deny the despairing reality that awaited me.

"Shizuku-san... Do you hate me?". I asked.

Is this revenge because I teased her?.

"Ah? Hate? Why?". Crooking her head, the Blondie muttered.

If she is trying to harass me and act innocent then she is doing a great job.

"Nothing, let's go". Replying that, I pulled the curious Kuroka-chan by her hand. The white one was on my back so I didn't need to be wary of her running off.

∆ Part 2

Thinking that she might have a hidden bad personality, Shizuku observed the rather amusing and pitiful sight of Nora, shaking from head to toes, sitting in front of her, on their spot in the bullet train. On the three people seat, he was in the middle, grabbing the seat... or rather, his hands had sunk so much on the seat that it wouldn't be strange if he ripped it.

Sitting on each side, the Nekomata sisters were trying to soothe him but they were no able to do so.

*Sigh*

With this she could understand the reason why her master, Yasaka, had sent her with them as a support. Although others offered to lend a hand, Shizuku was the only one who was allowed to follow them from up close as she had met them and was familiar with the group.

She wondered briefly if this was going to be alright. Originally, she planned to explain everything during the travel... but his state would not allow it.

Watching as Nora would make scared expressions when people passed by their seats, she considered that this was more pitiful than amusing. Despite his teasing habit, he had been nice to her so she thought of lending a hand here.

"This isn't too much but... if you are scared of sitting there...". Said Shizuku as she took Nora and sat him on her lap. "Sitting here might help. Per Yasaka-sama's instructions... I am supposed to keep you safe".

Speaking kindly, the kitsune acted like she did not see the angry look that the older Nekomata gave her. She was aware that the girl was jealous but it was for a greater good so she mentally asked for forgiveness.

"S-scared me-e? I- I am just s-shaking out of excitement. O-ok, sorry. I lied so don't pull my cheeks". Muttered Nora.

Being the culprit of such an action, Shizuku stopped. It was somewhat a relief that he was not as nervous as before. But she got angry when he still tried to joke.

In matters of seconds, her left and right side were occupied by the sisters who had no stopped trying to soothe him.

This was somewhat heartwarming for her. One of the reasons she offered to take this job was because she liked their relationship. She never had younger siblings so just observing them put her in a good mood... although having once tasted his sweets might have something to do as well.

The travel continued in such a manner, not a serious atmosphere but a rather easy-going one.

~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~

Arriving at the station and then looking for a taxi to take them close to their target location was done fast as Shizuku took care of it.

Walking around the neighborhood to get familiar with it, the group looked like tourists as the Nekomata sisters looked left and right excitedly, and having one of them taking pictures did not help change that impression.

"I am seeing you in a new light... to think that you were...". Muttered Nora with an impressed look. "Someone dependable".

"Oi". Retorted Shizuku.

Regretting a little lending a hand before she was about to lash on him when...

"Just joking. I am thankful to you. Last time I used an unorthodox route so I am at a loss when following conventional means. The train... well, that one I am grateful for that as well. I am glad you came along". Sincerely said Nora.

Swallowing her lashing back, Shizuku scratched her head awkwardly.

"Nora-nya, What is that!?". Kuroka pointed excitedly to one particular place.

Turning to the place the girl was talking about, Nora explained.

"That is a video game store, they also sell anime and movies if I am not wrong". Explained Nora.

Kuroka however was just half-listening as her eyes kept staring the store.

"...What about that place?". Asked Shirone.

Looking at the place she was talking about, Nora's eyes acquired a new shine.

"That is the place where the dreams of many become reality. The Shangri-la of a select few... the maid cafe". Nora spoke in a sage tone.

Feeling an urge to knock the nonsense out of his head Shizuku took a deep breath to calm down before she lost it.

Perhaps having felt the looming danger, Nora took a serious look and after scanning his surroundings he glanced at Shizuku.

"Let's go to that place, we can chat there while we eat". Said Nora whilst pointing at a nearby family restaurant.

*Sigh*

A sigh escaped her mouth, but Shizuku agreed with him. The same could be said of the sister pair that turned to look at Nora and Shizuku with expectant eyes.

...

...

Having asked a table for the sisters, and one for Nora and herself, Shizuku had finished giving a rough explanation of the situation they will be dealing with.

"In summary... They have been moving out several times to avoid the harassment coming from their own family?". Nora questioned in a cold tone of voice.

The blonde kitsune found it hard to believe that the boy sitting in front of her who carried a heavy mood was the same one she had to carry on her lap on the train.

It was the first time she had seen him like this.

Nodding in reply, she did not say anything back.

Tapping the table with his finger, Nora seemed to be thinking.

"How bad is the situation right now?". Inquired Nora.

"They found their location again, which is not exactly a surprise since we came to learn about it as well. The Himejima Clan is one of five great clans with a great amount of influence in the area so I am surprised that they took this long to find them. For now, they have just sent people like hoodlums to make anyone who gets too familiar with them abstain from doing it for any longer, isolating them. Although from what we learned, the hoodlums are Himejima people in outfits to fit the role. This however only gets worse when the fallen angel, the spouse of Shuri Himejima is away... in fact, he took care of some people sent by Himejima who wanted to harm Akeno Himejima before". Explained Shizuku.

Maintaining his silence, Nora did not look any different... but to a Ki user like Shizuku, the feeling he gave was of pure fury.

"I see. I still want to take a look first. Hearing about it is one thing, but seeing with my own eyes is something I need to do before I make a judgment over my course of actions". Muttered Nora in a dry tone. "The girls will probably want to come even if things get ugly. At that time, I leave their safety to you. Particularly Shirone-chan who can't fight. And the forces that Yasaka-san sent... make them protect the girls, and Shuri and Akeno Himejima as well. *sigh* I did not think they would be like that".

Shaking his head in disgust, the nekomata stood up, taking a deep breath and releasing it a couple of times, he tried to put his usual face before walking to the sister pair.

"Enjoying the food? You can ask for dessert too, you know? Shizuku-san as well". Warmly said Nora.

Alone on the table, Shizuku was not sure what expression she should have.

He already found out about the forces Yasaka put to safeguard him. She was not sure how, but Nora had a knack at finding that kind of thing. His request... was partly what they were supposed to do so she did not mind acting as he said, but Shizuku had not been told to protect the mother-and-daughter pair above Nora's safety. Yasaka had asked her to abandon the Himejima pair if it got too hard.

Nora's ability to change moods made her bewildered, as it was not something a child should be able to do. Recalling his 'one-year' missing, she wondered if he learned to do that back then.

Massaging her temple, she planned to get a raise when she got back. This job was going to have complications on both sides from what she observed so far.

~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~

Standing at the stairs leading to the small Shrine that Akeno and Shuri Himejima are supposed to be living, I had mixed feelings.

Their situation was just like Shizuku-san described, I confirmed it partly in a matter of seconds just by standing here. Several people passing by warned me about this place, as it had a bad reputation of being related to gangs and hoodlums. There were also rumors about it being cursed.

Those people pestered me asking me to leave out of kindness, but it only made me angry. I ended chasing them away when my Ki got leaked by accident.

I was alone on this part, this is something I strongly requested so the girls unwillingly accepted it.

They are nice girls for accepting my selfishness.

So I should respond to that by doing this already.

...

...

Glancing around the temple, I felt a slight pity at the lack of people. This is most likely because of the rumors.

"Ara ara, it's been a while since there was a visitor, What brings you here little one?". A soft female voice pulled me out of my thoughts.

Turning my head to the source of the sound, I found... Akeno looking at me? No, this woman must be her mother. She does look like Akeno did in the canon though. Shuri Himejima is a beautiful woman who has long, flowing black hair and light brown eyes... wearing a Shrine Maiden styled Hakama, and carrying a broom in one hand, she must be cleaning the temple.

"You could say I came for you". I said. Seconds later I realized how that sounded and regretted speaking carelessly.

"Ara ara, I am sorry. But I have a husband so I can't respond to your feelings. I do have a lovely daughter about your age though". In a joking tone, Shuri-san replied.

Carrying a smile on her face, she seemed to have taken my words as a joke.

"My words might've sounded bad, sorry. But I did come here for a reason". I muttered seriously.

Before I got a reply though, someone interrupted us.

"Shuri-sama, I can see you got someone to visit your 'cursed' Shrine. But it is no use, no matter what kind of words you use to convince them, people won't come here". A man scantily dressed in a white suit walked this way. "It is not too late, hand over the stain, and you can go back being the Shrine Maiden of that temple. This place is nothing compared to it".

A hoodlum, that was the word that came to my mind when I saw the guy who began saying unpleasant things. He had brown hair and brown eyes, his hair had dyed in yellow several strands of hair. Although he referred to Shuri-san with '-sama' so he must be one of those pretend-to-be hoodlums.

"I have said this many times already, but I will never do that. She is my precious daughter, born from the man I love. If you have not come here to pray, then leave". Exclaimed Shuri-san, who stood between the guy and me to shield me.

Was she afraid the 'hoodlum' will say things to me?.

"Hmmm, as expected of those vile creatures, they still have you brainwashed. But don't worry, we will take care of that bastard then, his spawn. By then, you will finally come to your senses". Spouting ominous words, the 'hoodlum' left at once.

From my perspective, I was not able to see the face Shuri-san was making. However, just from her shaking hands, I could guess that she was feeling frustrated.

Turning her head with a wry smile, she awkwardly scratched her cheeks.

"...I apologize for that unsightly spectacle. It won't make you forget what you saw, but would like a cup of tea as an apology?". Asked Shuri-san.

Not minding her clumsy attempts to divert my attention, I nodded in response.

It would make it easier to talk if she invited me to her home.

I might catch sight of Akeno-chan too.

...

...

"It is not much, but you can eat these too". Spoke Shuri-san as she presented me a cup of green tea with some rice crackers.

"No, I am thankful for your hospitality". Nodding I expressed my gratitude.

Taking a sip of tea, I looked around the kitchen where she let me to, but I failed to see Akeno-chan.

"Are you perhaps interested in my daughter? Fufu, you interested in my little joke from earlier? What to do, as her mother I can't just hand her to just anyone". With faked-worry, Shuri-san teased me.

Glad she is having fun. Although she is technically right.

"Is it always like that?". I asked.

I know that she is trying to avoid the topic, but I came here for one reason.

"...Are you worried about me? Thank you. But I can handle that much. You shouldn't mind it". In a kind tone, she replied.

Staring at the raising steam from my cup of tea, I translated the meaning of her words. I am thankful that you are asking, but it is my problem. It might be a rude interpretation but I think it is pretty accurate.

"I never got your name, how rude of me". Inquired Shuri-san.

"...I am Nora. Nora Shiki". I did a simple introduction.

"Ara, that is some unique name you have. But it might fit you". Smiling peculiarly, she replied.

That doesn't look like a mocking smile, although I don't know what is the meaning behind it.

"I fail to find your daughter around... Is she going to be alright?". I asked with slight concern.

I would lie if I said I was not curious. Considering those people walking around freely, I would not doubt if they attacked her as soon as they spotted her.

"She is going to be ok. She is just taking nap. How about it? Would you like to come to play with her some other time?". Offered Shuri-san.

From her tone... she must truly want me to do that. Is it that difficult for Akeno-chan to have friends of the same age?

I did not reply to her words at once.

Taking my time, I choose to sip my tea.

"I am a stranger... you know nothing about me. Yet you would still want me near your daughter?". I inquired.

While it might be stupid to waste an opportunity like this, I don't want to take advantage of her kindness or her love for her daughter.

"I know that you are called Nora... and that's about it, fufu. It might sound presumptuous of me, but I can be said to have a good eye for people. You are no one bad as far as my sight can tell. Believe me when I say that my ability is the real deal. It was thanks to it that I am married now". In a bragging tone, Shuri-san explained.

I am speechless at her reason to trust me.

"I will consider it. The tea was delicious... one last thing though. If you need help... ask for it". Leaving behind those words, I stood up preparing to leave, not forgetting to take a rice cracker with me.

Today did not go as I expected. It was an unrealistic wish of mine, but I wanted to approach the topic as soon as possible. Did I try to rush it?.

~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~

"Was it unsuccessful this time as well, young master?". A male voice greeted the hoodlum, which had arrived at his 'house'.

One of his followers, wearing a similar outfit as him, greeted him with a question when he arrived.

The hoodlum, Sanzou Himejima, was a man with little standing in the clan. Hoping to raise it by succeeding in the assignment of convincing the nephew of the clan's head to return to the clan after handing over the stain of the family, he used any means he could to accomplish it. Although that itself had not been successful so far.

"That damnable woman is still stubborn. The clan head is also finding our methods questionable lately. We might need to give one last push to break the 'Miss' stubbornness now that the crow is not around. That bastard stopped any of forceful attempts, even the practitioners we hired last time were beaten badly". Spoke Sanzou in a spiteful tone.

"Young master, those people are not to be trusted. They bragged about their skills but they were powerless against the crow". Replied the follower. "They also keep asking for an opportunity to redeem themselves, but I can only see it as petty attempt for revenge. I have been keeping a tight leash on them. But I don't think they will remain quiet forever".

Remaining silent, Sanzou had a headache thinking about it. Those people had a good reputation for erasing fallen angels, knowing a lot about them. Which was one of the reasons he hired them. But their reputation was far off from the truth.

A bunch of low lives no better than strays.

"...They can still be of use. Keep them on stand by. For now, let's do this...". Sanzou began explaining his plan to his follower.

~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~

Having said my goodbyes, I was walking down the stairs at a slow pace, not in a hurry to meet with the girls. I had a lot to think about first, and I wanted to use the token to contact Sirzechs-san as well. I had already asked Yasaka-san to prepare in case I had to take Shuri-san and Akeno-chan there, but I wanted another choice.

As I was lost in thought, I bumped into someone without wanting to. The other party almost falls but I extended my hand to catch... her. Instinctively, I wrapped my arm around her waist.

Blinking in confusion, I wondered if I had gone bonkers.

Just now, I met Shuri-san who was just like Akeno-chan in the canon... now, the person who is being held in my arms is someone similar to them. A teen, with a rather buxom figure for her young age, the beauty who has long, flowing black hair and red eyes, has similar looks to Shuri and Akeno Himejima... wait, someone comes to mind when I stare at those red eyes which are rather close.

Ahhhhhh! Suzaku, Suzaku Himejima!.

"E-eh... Excuse me? Thank you for helping me but... Could please let go of me?". Timidly asked the red-eyed girl in a soft tone of voice.

It was at this moment that I noticed our awkward and suggestive position. With one arm around her waist, I looked like I was embracing this young miss that had Shrine Maiden clothes. Who was a head taller than me.

Having gotten a growth spurt the last months, I had reached the 1,29cm threshold, with Kuroka-chan still in the lead with 1,32cm. Shirone-chan though... she is smol, with 1,17cm. A part of me wishes that she remains adorable as long as possible, but watching her stare with resolution at the marks we leave on a tree when we measure our height... I want to cheer her on.

"Excuse me? Are you listening to me?". Repeating her words in a stronger tone, the red-eyed girl said.

"Oh, ah, sorry. I got lost in thoughts for a moment here". Awkwardly apologizing, I released her.

Hmmm, as expected of someone with a figure similar to the Onee-san Akeno, this miss is powerful.

"No, I don't blame you... I was also somewhat distracted when I bumped into you. Just be more careful from now on". Kindly said the red-eyed miss. "That said... You come from that Shrine. Are you here to play pranks on the Miko there?".

Changin to a stern tone, she leaned forward with narrowed eyes.

So that kind of thing happens too huh. It is quite terrible.

"No, no. I just came to talk, nothing else". Before her mood soured, I replied.

Nevertheless... this could prove to be a lucky situation. She became the leader of the clan in the canon. It could aid my efforts in negotiating if I get her to help me. No, if I look at things from a broader perspective... maybe it could be helpful to Yasaka-san at some point?.

"Miss, would you like to have a chat with me? I happened to see a coffee shop on the way... they sell cakes too". I asked with high expectations.

"What to do? This is the first time such a younger guy hit on me. I just came to visit them because I heard they are getting bothered again and this happened...". Murmuring, the red-eyed girl stared at me and the Shrine in turns.

Hitting on you....? Oh... Ohhhhhhhhh. I need to correct her misunderstanding. After a few seconds more. Enjoying her expressions takes priority, it is somewhat amusing.

"Hmmm, you see? I am not interested in dating anyone. My family wouldn't allow it either so... I am sorry". With an apologetic look, the girl turned me down.

No, no, I think I should correct her after all. Being turned down even if I did not mean to ask her for a date isn't pleasant.

"I think I used the wrong words, no, I lacked an explanation. Miss Himejima, regarding the situation the two people living on the Shrine are facing... I want to discuss it with you". Using a serious tone, I got straight to the point.

Her impression, which looked like a kind teen-ager girl, changed. Looking at me warily, she scanned me from head to toes in a scrutinizing manner.

"You... are not a human. What is your business here? If you harmed even one hair of-". "Relax, I did nothing like that. I just took some tea there just now. If you want, feel free to go a confirm their safety. I will wait for you here. Do keep in mind to not tell them a thing". Before she was able to accuse me of anything, I interrupted her.

Although I must say, being found out this quickly.... makes me think I need more training. Even if was not particularly trying to hide, it is still bad for me if this happened every time.

"...I will do so. Even if you are telling me this to distract me, and you indeed harmed them... I won't stop until I find you, I will chase you down until the ends of the earth to make you pay if I have to". Climbing the stairs, the red-eyed miss did not forget to leave a warning behind.

Being chased by a girl that passionately sounds romantic... if you remove the part where she is trying to make you pay that is.

...

...

Sitting on a coffee shop table the two of us were just having a simple conversation.

"I understand roughly what you are trying to say. I do certainly wish to do just like you told me, however... I don't have the influence to do so. There is also another problem, which is that I can't trust you". Muttered the red-eyed miss. "Your timing is too god-sent".

Having explained my presence to her, and discussing the possibility of cooperating, ended with those words.

Having an ally within the clan would be a great help, but I might be seen with more vigilance than I thought.

"I am not expecting you to entrust me your life. That high level of commitment is too high. What I wish is to cooperate to keep them safe. We can have some level of communication to guarantee that one side is keeping in check any harmful individual from approaching them". I sincerely said.

For now, I will act this way. It might be quite scummy of me, but I need to earn their trust before they might listen to my words.

My intentions might be good, but I am fully taking advantage of my easy to approach appearance to get along. Or so I hope to do.

Taking my words, the miss seemed conflicted.

"...I can't be with them all the time either way so I would rather communicate with you than to have you act on your own. I still don't get why you are doing this though". Asked the red-eyed, Miss. "By the way, how can I contact you? Do you have a phone I could call you?".

Her manner of speaking got gentler as she seemed to accept a partnership, albeit with no other option.

Her questions...

"My reasons... shouldn't matter. I might be labeled as a dubious person or being seen with distrust. But I don't mind it. As long as they are safe, I don't care about other's opinions". I replied softly.

Yes, I simply want to avoid that tragedy. There is no way I can save every person in the world. I don't think I am made to be such a great individual. Yet, I liked Akeno, and for sure, I do not want her to go through all that. In that regard... I think she is like Kuroka-chan and Shirone-chan.

Staring at me, the Miss seemed to give me a warm look.

"Fufu, your expression loosened just now. That is not a face that someone who is up to no good would make". Commented the girl.

That is being naive. In this world, the individuals who can laugh happily as they kill others, or do uncountable amounts of evil deeds, are impossible to number.

"...Regarding the communication issue. I don't have a phone". I said.

I have a token here, but that is not something I can use to talk to this girl.

Thinking about... I have not touched a phone since my old world. Got money, so getting one shouldn't be a problem. Wait, I might need some help. They wouldn't sell it to a child, would they?.

"Should I help you with that?". Thoughtfully tilting her head, she asked.

Why not?.

Nodding in response, I stood up a prepared to pay the bill.

"Then, I will count on you Miss". I replied.

"Not Miss. Calling me by my last name would be confusing when we speak about my aunt, and cousin so... How about you call me by my name?. I am called Suzaku, Suzaku Himejima. I think I did not get to introduce myself before". Smiling, the Miss... no, Suzaku-san told me her name.

I was aware of it, but I kept referring to her like that to avoid muttering her name by mistake. It wouldn't be strange to know about it as I knew about her family situation already. Although it would surely be unpleasant if someone you don't know started to speak to you in an overly familiar manner.

"I am Nora, Nora Shiki". I gave a simple introduction.

This is the second time today.

You are reading story Highschool DxD: A new opportunity at novel35.com

"Nice to meet you. Now then, since you treated me this time, how about you let this Onee-san buy you a phone in exchange? Consider it a gift and a way to prove that we will be working together". Exclaimed Suzaku-san as I finished paying for both of our shares.

Shaking my head, I refused. Even if she is from a well-off family, I don't want to take advantage of her.

"Just helping me with the procedures will be enough. I think a coffee and a slice of cake is too cheap compared to what you will be giving me". Giving a reasonable explanation, I tried to change her mind.

"At time like this you should go with the flow, you know?". Sulkily replied Suzaku-san.

This girl is too kind for her own good. As expected of Akeno's family.

...

...

It was a tough fight at the phone store. She fooled the employee so she would not accept my money and ended up paying all by herself.

What shrewd girl. Her face at that time was that of a child who pulled a prank successfully. The destructive power was high since she is quite the beauty so I didn't have the energy to retort.

Accepting it quietly, I just added her to my contact list.

We split up after promising to contact each other later that night to coordinate.

Being a child is inconvenient in many ways. I do wonder if I can learn some Youjutsu techniques that can alter the way others see me. That way, I wouldn't be troubled by simple stuff like today.

~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~

Walking with light steps, Suzaku Himejima was staring at her phone, or rather, the contact number she just added.

Many thoughts rushed through her head, a great deal of them were complicated such as her aunt and cousin's situation. This number was a reminder of it, but it also carried a new sentiment, hope.

She couldn't put her trust in a stranger. Yet, she couldn't find any reason to turn down the cooperation request. He had said he would still hang around the place even if they don't work together after all.

That boy whom she met today was quite the mystery. He was not a human. She could tell that he was a Youkai, not the type she had been dealing with so far though. Putting his name aside(which she found strange), he did not give the stray vibe.

It worried her if he was being honestly trying to help her aunt and cousin, but she could not be picky. An ally was an ally. Something she couldn't find in her clan.

While many did not like her cousin and scorned her. Some were not against it, but out of fear to anger the clan head, they remained silent.

It saddened her that things had come this far, and while she tried her best to gather sympathizers, at the pace that everything was escalating... she was afraid of the situation spiraling out of control.

Only when the husband of her aunt was home with them, could she take a breather. His strength was enough to keep them safe. However, he was away.

Leaving her with the weight of protecting her precious family members... on her shoulders.

This time, a new variable had appeared.

Not being able to trust completely in him... made her anxious. At the same time, it made her happy that she was not alone this time.

Thinking about the green-eyed boy, her mood was brighter than usual.

Maybe the Shinto Gods guided him to her?. Could it be seen as a signal that they would not be angry if there was mixed blood among their kin?.

∆ Part 3

It was already night, and I...

"...Is it possible? I know that I am asking too much. But I would be eternally grateful if you could help me". I said.

The other party, which I was communicating through the token, took a while to answer.

I just waited since I was aware that I was asking too much.

"Nora-kun... You are... *Sigh* Your request isn't difficult to accomplish. But, I find it hard to understand why do you wish for it to be this way. If what you told me is true, then...". Replied Sirzechs-san in an uncertain manner.

"Everyone wins with my proposal. You already told me that is possible to communicate with them, right?. With that, along with the other thing I asked... would be even easier to do. I am just asking for you to use your family name. You can leave any cost that might be incurred by them to me as well". I explained.

Preparations are important.

"The money isn't a problem, using my family name for that reason... Well, if you ask me, I could even use my position. But will the other party agree? You are trying to look for a peaceful resolution which is admirable. Although you can't forget that it won't always go as you like. If you f- ouch! Stop, hitting me Grayfia, I am not trying to bully him. As his elder I am offering to advise, wait, don't use the harisen. Nooo!- This is Grayfia. Just ignore the words of my foolish King. I will support you, and I will rely on your words to Ojou-sama and the other related parties. Rias-sama would be delighted to lend a hand. Have a good night, my king has to work so he won't be able to continue the conversation". Just when Sirzechs-san was advising me over the possibility of failure, Grayfia-san intervened and began speaking.

I wonder if I should be glad that this token only transmitted audio, watching Sirzechs-san unsightly appearance wouldn't be nice.

Although... as expected of Grafia-san, a maid is something else.

"Thank you, and Sirzechs-san too. It might be inconvenient to you, but please help me this once". I muttered.

"Leave to me. Consider this as payback over... no, never mind. If you find yourself in trouble, I will go there if you call me. Ojou-sama might insist on coming with me after telling her this though". Said Grayfia-san.

I tactfully decided to act like I didn't hear certain words. It was not something to talk about yet.

"Haha, you could drop by if you want. I don't mind. But I won't be able to offer much on the hospitable aspect, we are not in my place after all. I have to leave. I will contact you another time". I replied while ending the communication at the same time.

*Sigh*

Sighing deeply, I was just laying on the bed of a rather high-class hotel. Which we were staying at.

The girls were taking a bath, and I was left alone so I used this time to contact Sirzechs-san.

I don't want to bet everything on one possibility so I asked for help on that side too.

After meeting with the girls, I asked Shizuku to have some people keep an eye on that scantily dressed guy if they saw him again. For now, it was decided to keep an eye on things, which might take a while.

I was torn between traveling every day, and staying here until this was solved, but if something happened and I was away then I wouldn't be able to do a thing.

Kuroka-chan and Shirone-chan wanted to stay with me so I accepted it on the condition that they were good girls and let me move freely. Of course, by no means I was just going to neglect them.

I planned to keep a surveillance schedule so I might not be able to be with them all the time. They were saddened but accepted to do so. On the condition that we all had only one room.

...

...

The second day, I did not go immediately to meet Akeno-chan, like I was asked by Shuri-san.

Instead, I was walking around the neighborhood with Kuroka-chan. Shizuku-san was taking care of Shirone-chan for today.

"So, Do you want to help me or do you want to play around?". I asked the happy nekomata.

Observing everything with curious eyes, the kitty seemed to be in a good mood.

"Don't underestimate me-nya! I will seriously help you-nya!". Replied Kuroka-chan but her eyes remained on an ice cream shop.

...Why do I feel that her words are not that reliable?.

Not wanting to discuss, I proceeded to do what I had to, look for the guy from yesterday. I still did not know if he will try something so I want to keep an eye on him just in case. Shizuku-san will contact me using a new token she handed me today if there is anything unusual. She and the white kitty are a team for now.

...

...

Having bought ice cream for Kuroka-chan, I spotted the guy in question. He was not moving alone, this time he had a few guys following behind him. Their clothes are not neat like his own, and the passer-byers just avoid getting in their way.

This smelled like trouble.

"This is Nora, Shizuku-san. I have found the guy I told you about. I will follow him for now... He is moving with a group of people, be alert just in case. Protect Shirone-chan!". I spoke to Shizuku-san using the token.

"Understood". A short reply came back.

I was about to turn to Kuroka-chan urge her, but the girl in question had swallowed the ice cream too fast and had tears in her eyes. It must be because of the brain freeze.

"L-Let's-s g-go-oo-ny-aa! I-I a-am r-ready-nya!". Kuroka-chan said fearlessly.

Smiling wryly, I patted her head.

Waiting for those guys to walk an appropriate distance, I took Kuroka-chan's hand and began following them.

...

...

More people began joining them as they got closer to Shuri-san's place until they stopped in a spot where a truck was parked. Opening the truck, the guy I met yesterday seemed to confirm the contents. My position made it impossible to see so I used my ability and... I found tools of all types. Hammers, in particular, were in great number. Is that a chainsaw?.

The strange thing though, was that they remained there.

"Nora-nya, Are they the bad guys-nya? Should we beat them-nya?". Eagerly asked Kuroka-chan.

Easy there.

"Not yet, I would like to see if there are more people". I replied without taking my eyes off, of them.

What are they...? Maybe?.

"Shizuku-san, Where are Shuri and Akeno Himejima?". I asked using the token.

There was a moment of silence then...

"They are preparing to go out. Shizuku-nee-sama is giving instructions to other people... I think. Over". Replied... Shirone-chan.

Well, even Shirone-chan is doing her part huh.

That said... they are probably waiting for something like... Shuri-san leaving. The tools are there to destroy something. The shrine.

"Kuroka-chan, it seems we will doing the be- no, no, this is a rightful method that is made to teach others to behave. It is called... yes, plummeting method! Remember well". I explained to Kuroka-chan. "Although we will need to wait for them to go to a place with lesser number of people. Our appearances will be a problem too".

Frowning slightly, I thought about carrying a mask from now on.

"Nyan! Nyan! You can leave this to Kuroka-onee-san here! My Youjutsu will do the trick!". Smugly proclaiming that she began doing several hand signs before her appearance completely changed to that of an innocent passer-by I just saw.

She... she...

"Have I ever tell you that you are the best?". I sincerely said.

Blushing sightly after undoing her technique, she just twisted her body left and right in apparent embarrassment.

"Nya~ This is nothing-nya~ I don't mind if you praise me more though~". Cheerily said Kuroka-chan.

I could not continue to do so as the guys began moving.

"They left, Nora. They left.... over". Coming from the token, Shirone-chan voice was heard.

Now then...

"Kuroka-chan, if you can change our appearances to look like them, it would be helpful". I asked the black kitty.

Nodding at that, she began casting her spell and seconds later, I could see her looking like one of the followers the guy had.

Hmmm, I did it feel any different so this is probably an illusion.

"Let's go...". Muttering such a thing, I began walking as I took Kuroka-chan's hand.

...

...

Creeping behind them, we were close to the Shrine. But it was also the perfect spot where there was no one else at the moment.

"Remember to be careful. There are several normal humans mixed among their group. But there might be exorcists too. We are just going to knock them out for now. Ok?". I whispered to my partner.

Nodding in response, she moved in a different direction from me.

Warily scanning my surroundings, I made sure no surprises would suddenly pop up. Although I might just being paranoic.

As Kuroka-chan continued to move to a better position, I walked out my hiding place boldly.

"What are you guys doing!? I have been waiting for you in the place we agreed upon for a while now!". I started to yell to get their attention. I tried my best to make different voice from my usual one.

As expected, most of them had a bewildered look. There were even some who stared at me then at the person I looked like. Said guy though, had a serious expression.

"Who the heck are you?". Asking in a tone full of animosity, he faced me.

Putting my guard up, as I could see that he was hiding something in his hand, I moved closer without hesitation.

"I could ask you the same thing. Don't you know who I am? I doubt it, if you did... you wouldn't dress up like me even if you had ten times more guts than you currently have". I spoke.

I was just saying whatever came up to my head to get close enough. Although I did not take into account the effect of my words. Because... the guy got pissed off.

"I don't know what kind of game you are playing. But you chose the wrong target". Raising his left hand, he threw something my way.

I was expecting a possible attack so I easily avoided it by tilting my body slightly to the left.

Since he attacked me... I will feel less guilty when I beat him senseless.

Sharing a brief look with Kuroka-chan, I saw her get out of her position to strike the closest hoodlum.

I did not stay with my arms crossed either. Using simply Senjutsu, I boosted my speed and got closer to my attacker.

Looking the most threatening, and considering the possibility of him being an exorcist, I gave him a blow on his stomach first to continue with a punch on his chin... Only to stop when he passed out from my first attack.

Eh?.

Watching him helplessly fall, I had a rather awkward expression. But getting my act together, I aimed at the next guy.

...

...

"Kuroka-chan... Aren't they like... too weak?". I put into words the question I had.

All the hoodlums were on the ground unconscious. We quickly dispatched them without much effort.

"Are they acting-nya?". Asked Kuroka-chan.

That is a possibility. Walking close to one of the unconscious hoodlums, I kicked him a couple of times, but only groans of pain were heard. No further reaction came from the poor guy.

"It doesn't seem like that though... Not like I have time for that. Kuroka-chan, get the tools they brought and put them in here". I said while handling the kitty my ol' pal, the pouch.

Nodding, she began picking the hammers firsts, with almost comical ease. Watching the young and cute Kuroka-chan lifting a hammer that was about her length with such ease sure made an interesting sight.

Pulling out my pocket my new addition, the phone I got yesterday, I began to photograph each of the faces from the unconscious hoodlums. I will use this to ask for information from my recent ally. She should be able to tell who is from the Himejima Clan easily.

Distributing these pictures to the youkais Shizuku-san brought, will help them to keep an eye on them more easily.

Having finished, I wondered if I should leave them like this... Hmmm, they were about to do something terrible. I don't want to kill them though.

Hmmmm, there must be a proper payback. With that said... I took their wallets. Let's donate half to Shuri-san's Shrine, the other half could be used for those two differently.

"I am done-nya. I put everything.... Nya? What are you doing-nya?". Kuroka-chan asked as she saw me counting the spoils of war.

"This can be said to be a form of Karma. A light punishment for them though". I disinterested muttered.

The easiest option is to simply 'take' care of them, but making that choice all the time will turn people into something different from humans... my father used to comment that whenever he read in the newspapers about news regarding murders or the like.

"I believe in Nora-nya. Since Nora-nya did not like them, then they are my enemies too-nya. The bad guys-nya". Spoke Kuroka-chan.

I smiled wryly at her words.

"Will you become enemies with anyone who I don't like?". I couldn't help to ask.

"Shirone-nya is my little sister. I promised myself to protect her at all cost-nya. Nora-nya... is the same-nya. Although I haven't been of much help-nya". Shyly replied Kuroka-chan.

What is with this adorable creature?.

No, no, this is no place for this.

"Let's meet up with the smol kitty and the kitsune. Our work is done for now, but we should keep an eye on the Shrine just in case". Lightly ruffling her hair, I began walking in the Shrine's direction. "I will also protect you two. No matter what".

Not bothering to check if she heard my last words, I walked forward.

...

...

"Although I am thankful for the pictures... When did you get a phone?". Muttered Shizuku-san as she looked at pictures I took.

"Yesterday". I replied.

There was one problem though... these guys don't have phones. I can't send them the pictures like that.

"Take this and get one for everyone. Although having the token is nice, it never hurts to have other mediums of communication". I said as I gave the kitsune my debit card.

Perhaps my actions touched a nerve on the kitsune since her eyebrows were twitching.

"...Shiki-sama, although your actions can be seen as you being 'generous' if you act like that all the time, people will take advantage of you". Shizuku-san advised me.

Her words made me recall a bitter memory, but I choose to let go of the memory just as fast as it came.

"I don't mind. Consider it a thank you gift from me. I would be lost with all of you helping me". I said.

It isn't that much.

...

...

Problem fixed, I had my phone back and I sent the picture to all related parties already. It did not take long when I got a reply from Suzaku-san.

'I recognize the man with the ugly suit. He is Sanzou Himejima. He is not someone with a lot of influence on the clan but he is always eager for attention. Grand-uncle must've given him the task of convincing my Aunt'. A message saying that, had arrived.

That complicates things, I wanted to meet the clan head in person. If he is leaving this to someone else I might stay here for longer.

Convincing? More like not giving her any choice.

I wrote a summary of what was going to happen today. The reply was sent immediately.

'WHAAT!? He was going that far? That is too much. I will go there right now. The message written by Suzaku-san contained that.

Rolling my eyes, I called her.

The call connected immediately.

"What are you doing? I took care of the problem already. Instead of coming here... I want you to find out if the actions the 'Sanzou' guy took were part of the Clan Head's orders". I spoke slowly hoping that she understood my words.

That was something I wanted to know more than anything. If I could get a grasp of his personality before I met him, I would be able to know what to expect if we had a conversation.

"...Uck! Ok. I was going to act rashly. My apologies. And thank you, it was you who protected their place". Saying that Suzaku-san ended the call.

Those words left me thinking... me? protecting their place?. It was nothing like that. I could not do such a thing on my own.

~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~

It was already afternoon when Shuri got back home with her daughter Akeno. They had gone out on a stroll for a change of pace.

It was difficult to live on alert every single minute, fearing for her daughter's safety, so this was as good for her daughter as it was for her.

"Hehe, the squirrels loved the treats I gave them". Muttered a happy voice that Shuri was very familiar with, Akeno her daughter was talking.

With long black hair and violet eyes. Her hair was tied in a long ponytail, reaching down to her legs with two strands sticking out from the top and sloping backward, with an orange ribbon keeping it in place. Similarly, like her, Akeno was wearing a purple kimono.

Walking while holdings hands, the mother and daughter were getting closer to their home after going to the park.

"Ara, I was the one that prepared them". Said Shuri.

At those words, the young Akeno pouted.

"...I gave those treats to them. That's why they liked it". The sulking little girl said.

Smiling at her daughter's words, Shuri did not try to tease her further.

Taking Shuri's silence as her victory in the conversation, the little girl smiled happily.

"Kaa-sama... there is someone...". Akeno muttered in a subdued tone. "I will tell him to not bully us. Wait here! Akeno will protect Kaa-sama".

Like her daughter, Shuri also noticed the figure. However she was not able to stop her daughter on time as she ran off.

Smiling wryly, she hoped that he forgave her daughter's actions.

...

...

"I am sorry, I shouldn't have yelled at you". Bowing slightly, Akeno meekly apologized.

Nodding slightly, the figure that had been waiting for them did not seem to mind her earlier behavior.

Shuri watched everything from one side.

After catching up to her daughter who was trying to chase away the figure, she explained that it was her who asked him to come. Although she was a little surprised to see him. The green-eyed boy did not outright confirm that he was going to come, and after

waiting the whole morning, she had half given up expecting him to show up.

Not many children dared to come and play with her daughter, and the ones that would say so... would be stopped by their parents before they came.

"Don't sweat the small details. Cheer up. Here, have some ice cream". Muttered the green-eyed boy, Nora, just as he handed popsicle ice cream to Akeno.

Nonchalantly pulling one from a bag Shuri just noticed he carried. It was full of groceries of all kinds, there were even snacks.

She was curious why he brought with him. But she was not going to pry, instead...

"Fufu, It is ok to take one, he is kindly offering it to you". Said Shuri after reading the question that bugged her daughter as she hesitated to extend her hand to grab it.... even as her eyes did not leave the popsicle.

Shyly gulping, her daughter reached to take the treat.

"...Thanks. Ehhh... Who are you? I am Akeno, Akeno Himejima... Hmmm, it's good". Spoke Akeno as she unwrapped the package and took a lick of her ice cream.

"You might call me... Hubby. Your mother married you to me yesterday". In a mischievous tone, the boy said.

Freezing in place, Akeno widened her eyes and turned to see the green-eyed boy.

"W-WHA-AAT!?". Yelled Akeno in surprise, dropping her ice cream in the process.

Skillfully catching it before the ice cream fell to the floor, Nora put it on her hand again.

Gone was his mischievous expression from before.

"Haha, sorry about that. It was a joke". Sounding apologetic, he said.

Shuri just smiled at their exchange. She did say something similar so he technically did not lie. Although she was joking as well.

Blushing slightly, Akeno forcefully bit her ice cream. Perhaps to cool herself because of the embarrassment, or just anger. Shuri considered it to be because the earlier possibility as she knew her daughter well. The little girl acted innocently when these topics appeared out of the blue... something she exploited when she teased her. Although when she presented the topic on her own, she was able to speak normally. A real mystery, Shuri thought.

"It is nice that you two are getting along, but we should get inside. It is a little hot to chat out here". Pointed Shuri to the children. "Do you want to leave your stuff in the kitchen while you two play?"

Glancing at the bag in his hands, Nora nodded to himself.

"Sure, I will leave it there". Said the boy.

...

...

"So, you need to put the cards carefully or the castle will fall. See? If your hands shake too much, it will go down". Explained Nora as he gave an example to Akeno.

Having gotten the pack of playing cards that Nora bought, her daughter and him were using the cards to make a castle. Shuri thought that it was more like the boy teaching her daughter though. As she kept failing because her hands shaking out of nervousness.

"It is hard to do... Why can't I do it?". Said a dispirited Akeno.

Scratching his head, the boy had a troubled look.

"Practice makes perfection. If you keep trying, you will be able to do it. Come on, if you want... We could do this together. Don't get discouraged". Spoke Nora, trying to cheer her up.

Nodding, Akeno began building the castle from the beginning again. This time, with Nora lending a hand.

...

...

In no time, they were able to do it. After the excitement of making something she was not able before, Akeno seemed full of energy.

"Now what!? What can we play now!?. Said Akeno.

"Whatever you want". Replied Nora in a kind tone of voice.

"Then...". Akeno started to explain.

On one side, enjoying her daughter having fun, Shuri looked at the scene warmly. This was something she wished that her daughter could get to enjoy more.

...

...

"I feel like you are just trying to be mean to me here!". Exclaimed Nora as he jumped to one side, evading the splash of water.

"Hehe, I always wanted to do this". Cheerfully said Akeno while refilling a small bowl with water.

It was supposed to be a simple game where they throw water at each other while evading getting wet... although Nora got banned from using water as it would be unfair for Akeno, or so the girl explained. Shuri found those rules slightly unfair, but since her little girl was not being taken advantage of... then everything was fine for her. She apologized in her head to Nora, but she would always support her daughter.

"Uwaaa! Wow, easy there! Using a hose is too unfair!". Even as he complained, the boy dodged without allowing a single drop of water to land on him.

"I won't be able to win if I don't do this much!". Exclaimed Akeno, a serious look adorned her face... with a little frustration mixed up.

His movements were skillful, so it didn't matter how she used the hose, the boy did not give her an easy way to win.

The little girl had an idea, so she just dropped the hose, even as it kept releasing water and she sulkily crouched.

"I don't want to play anymore! This stopped being fun. You are a meanie!". Whined Akeno she just stayed there, her gaze fixed on the ground.

The green-eyed boy just smiled wryly in response. Shaking his head he walked her way.

"Hey, don't be like that, we can wwrought*cough* You little...". Muttered Nora who, after getting closer to her, got sneak attacked.

The sulking little girl raised her head and gave him a victorious grin when he was at arm's reach, then by taking the hose, she splashed him with water.

His expression was bitter, but observing Akeno who had a radiant smile as she celebrates her victory by raising her tiny hand in a victory sign, the boy just shrugged his shoulders.

...

...

For a long time, the two would try different kinds of games, mostly proposed by Akeno. The little girl who always tried to act subdued and mature was finally acting her age under the excitement of playing with someone her age. For Shuri, this was something she always wanted to see.

Of course, when Suzaku visited, she would play together with her daughter but the age difference made it awkward sometimes.

Distracted from her thoughts, she caught sight of Nora carrying Akeno on his back when they were a few meters away. Initially worried, she breathed a sigh of relief when she saw her little girl was just sleeping.

"Her energy ran out, so I brought her here... Should I carry her to her room or would you rather do it yourself?". Muttered Nora in a low tone of voice.

Perhaps he tried to be considerate of Akeno... Shuri thought.

"Let me take her myself, I will be changing her clothes so I should be doing it... Unless the 'hubby' wants to do it himself, fufu". Said Shuri in a teasing tone.

"Please, I just tried to make a simple joke. She is too young to think about that kind of thing...". Replied Nora.

Not trying to tease him further she just took Akeno from him. Only to have trouble doing so as her daughter had grabbed Nora by the scrub of his neck. As she applied more force, she managed to pull her, and a certain pendant he was wearing below his sweater.

With Akeno in her arms, Shuri proceeded to grab the pendant only to freeze in place for a moment after seeing it more in detail. A simple pendant with a marble-like object hanging in the middle. Darkened in a great deal, but the greenish color could be seen in some places.

"Is there something wrong?". The green-eyed boy's voice pulled her out her little lapse.

"Y-Yeah. I mean, no, sorry. She ended up taking this as well, you can have it back. I will take Akeno to her room". Said Shuri as left the living room, leaving Nora alone.

Blinking in confusion, the boy just wore his pendant again.

"Talk about suspicious...". Muttering that, Nora just shrugged his shoulders.

...

...

Having put Akeno to rest with a new change of clothes, Shuri was rubbing her forehead. Many thoughts were coursing through it, and it was all thanks to that pendant. To be precise, that marble-like object, had a tear-like shape with a slightly curved end. It was a magatama.

"It must be a joke... for that to appear after all this time. How did he get his hand on it? No, the most important point is that he is perfectly fine while having it hanging on his neck". Blabbering on her own, Shuri had a confused expression. "There are only two ways for it to not harm someone... being chosen by it, or being liked by it. Those who are wicked, or those who are rejected for any reason, will be harmed...".

Turning to her sleeping daughter, Shuri wondered if this could be seen as good or bad luck.

"Akeno... You made a really strange friend today". Shuri muttered as she left alone her little girl who had a peaceful smile on her face, sleeping quietly.

...

...

"Would you like a cup of tea before you- eh? He is not here?". Shuri who had arrive at the living room spoke.

Gone was the figure of the boy.

Wondering if he had gone out of the house, Shuri was about to look for him when a piece of paper laying neatly on a table nearby, bellow that pack of cards Nora had brought, picked her interest.

On it, a message was written in neat kanji.

'I left, that much is obvious.

How was today? It was peaceful right? Don't you wish for it to be like that all the time? There is no need to suffer from your family. You two can live happily. Are you worried about your husband? I will take care of that too. You guys can live happily together. Wouldn't you consider moving to another place? I know a couple of places where you can enjoy peace, where your daughter can enjoy peace. Make new friends.

I truly sound like the bad guy.

I sneakily left a note with all this since you might've refused to hear me out.

Please, consider what I just said. I truly mean no harm. If you feel like I might be trying to deceive since your husband isn't here, then call him. I don't mind. In fact that sounds like a better idea.

It was a fun day. Do give my regards to my wife when she wakes up. Just kidding.

-Nora Shiki

PS: You can use what I brought freely. It was a gift. This is Karma working on your favor.'

Not having missed a single word from the note, Shuri just pondered.

No matter what, She wished her family to acknowledge Akeno, and she wished to stay close to them. She had many important people there so she did not want to go far away. Despite the cruel treatment she received... Shuri loved her family. Just like some treated her unfairly, some became unconditional allies. Briefly recalling the face of her nephew, she smiled kindly.

She could take the boy's words as just gibberish, but there was something that she could not ignore. He sounded rushed, almost desperate to convince her. Even telling her to call Baraquiel to talk about it.

Was it ok to just ignore his words? Shuri was not sure. However, she hesitated when she read again the part about Akeno being able to live in peace and making new friends.

It had been a while since she saw her so cheerful and full of energy.

*Sigh*

Sighing deeply, Shuri was feeling like things will change whether she likes it or not. And that might not be only because of the boy's appearance. A faint feeling, she had a feeling that something was going to happen. And like that... a sense of urgency was born in Shuri.

Author's Corneeeer!

Hi there.

There are new characters introduced here. Shuri, Akeno and Suzaku. From the three, I wrote mostly about Shuri and Suzaku.

As someone who just read DxD, I don't know about Suzaku that much, so forgive me if she is not like in Slash Dog. I began reading it... but I had to finish the chapter. So I have not finished. When I am done, I might change a few things if there is much difference. Or I could leave as it is.

As far as I know, Suzaku was older when she appeared in Slash Dog and the events of her Aunt death greatly changed her. Which I might be able to use as a pretext here(evil grin).

I mostly added her here because I recall that she played with Akeno when she was younger, and considering that... I made it like she met her on regular basis. Hope it wasn't strange.

Then, we got Shuri. Nora wants to convince to move to place where she won't be chased or bothered by the Himejima Clan. That said, she won't just nod and accept it. One of the reasons why I think she remained in Japan instead of moving to a place where her clan influence was thinner... was because her attachments to her family.

There is the deal with Baraquiel too. Who had enemies everywhere and had to keep them far from him as well.

Not much about Akeno here as I focused more on Shuri begining to consider Nora's words. Maybe in the next chapter.

Any questions? You know how to ask.

I honestly tried editing but things did not went well, my other phone died and lost all data so I decided to post the un-edited chapters like it is. I will post until it catches up with the content in webnovels.
