Days later, Shen Yi finally found out that his mother had abandoned him, she had chosen to go away with the new man she had fallen in love with.
“Yi Yi, I really couldn’t bear to part with you back then either.” Meng Xuexin was crying on the other end of the phone and her voice turned hoarse.
The corners of Shen Yi’s mouth went down, there was no fluctuation in his expression, hearing this both strange and familiar voice, his heart unexpectedly didn’t have much ripples, the figure of his mother had long since become not so important to him anymore.
The feeling of being seen as a burden and being abandoned deliberately wasn’t pleasant at all.
If back then she had even the slightest reluctance to part with him, she wouldn’t have abandoned the young him and left on her own far away. To take revenge on his father who had an affair, she even went as far as to hide him and didn’t take the decision to send him back to the Shen family.
Shen Yi squeezed the phone as he listened to the increasingly heavy cries on the other end, without saying a word.
Meng Xuexin added, “You still blame me, right? Now that I’m back, I just want to see if you’re doing well, I really have no intention to disturb your life.”
This time, she came back with her beloved husband and the son they gave birth to. The Meng family wasn’t as well-off as the Shen family, but they were also an important family in the capital and had a bit of standing.
If Meng Xuexin’s mother hadn’t fallen seriously ill, she most likely would never have returned and would have stayed abroad.
Only after landing here did she remember that she had a son whom she had abandoned.
Back then she was also a well-known prominent lady, a distinguished high-born lady, with an arrogant disposition and a bad temper that couldn’t tolerate even a single grain of sand in her eyes.
After her return, she also tried to inquire about Shen Yi’s life and, after learning that he had now returned to the Shen family and had already married someone, the weight hanging in her heart was put down for the time being.
However, Meng Xuexin wasn’t satisfied at all with Shen Yi’s wife either, for Lu Wanwan was a far cry off from a distinguished high-born lady.
Shen Yi listened to her wailing and waited until she was finished to hung up the phone resolutely.
From beginning to end, Shen Yi only said one word to Meng Xuexin, “Oh.”
He didn’t say nor show it, but he was still somewhat irritated in his heart.
Moreover, Lu Wanwan was out until late without returning, he sent her a text message originally thinking that he wouldn’t get a reply, but he never expected her to mingle with Li Xing and the others.
Shen Yi was aware that Lu Wanwan and the others weren’t on good terms and he never forced Lu Wanwan to be nice to Li Xing and the rest.
He also knew that today was Gu Sheng’s birthday, he had received several days ago an invitation, but Shen Yi had no intention of going.
In the end, worried about her, he took a coat and went out to find her.
The weather in march was unpredictable. Rain started pouring outside as dark clouds converged, the wind hitting his face was both cold and painful.
The man was clearly holding a black umbrella in his hand, but allowed himself to be drenched by the heavy rain.
He hadn’t been standing downstairs for long when he heard Lu Wanwan’s voice, in a split moment of trance, he thought he was hallucinating.
Lu Wanwan, looking at Shen Yi’s white complexion, didn’t dare to let him drive the way back, and called a taxi to bring them both back home.
She didn’t get wet by even one drop of rain whereas, on the contrary, Shen Yi’s whole body was soaked with rain.
Lu Wanwan went to the bathroom to turn on the hot water and pushed the person in, “You hurry up and take a hot shower to avoid catching a cold.”
Shen Yi squeezed the dry towel she handed over, nodded his head and obediently went into the bathroom. He took a hot shower, changed into pajamas and slippers, before walking back up to her, lowering his eyes, he said “I’m done washing up.”
Lu Wanwan said “oh” without understanding why he specially came up to her to tell her that.
In the middle of the night, Shen Yi began to have a low fever, his pale face started to gradually turn burning hot. Sickly and weak, he was lying in bed without any strength left in his limbs.
At first, Lu Wanwan did not notice that he had a fever. She woke up in the middle of the night feeling thirsty, so she went to the kitchen to drink water. That’s when she saw that the guest room’s door was opened by a slit and that the lights in the room were still on.
Feeling that it was strange, she went over and looked in through the slit. She saw that the glass of water on the bedside table had been knocked over on the floor with water stains dabbing all over on the floor while the quilt that was covering Shen Yi was about to slide off his body.
Lu Wanwan put down the glass of water in her hand, before opening the door and walking in with light steps. When she covered him back with the quilt, she found out that Shen Yi’s complexion didn’t look quite right. Reaching out, she touched him, his forehead was hot, a temperature which was frighteningly high.
He was most likely having a fever.
The man in the bed was frowning even in his sleep, he was murmuring in a low voice and it was hard to hear what he was saying.
Lu Wanwan went to the medicine cabinet to find a fever-reducing medicine. Just when she was about to wake the man up to let him take the medicine, Shen Yi opened his eyes.
