Book One: Annihilation
Chapter 1: Breaking Point
New Montego
Tuesday, April 19, 2022
The man in the white suit stood on 24th and Proper, glancing around nervously. He walked into the café, and sat down in a corner booth. Around 14 minutes later, another man in a grey suit walked into the café, this one holding a briefcase. They disappeared out of the sight of the sniper scope, but I knew where my mark was.
As I lurked in the shadows, waiting, the street was busy down below. Cars were rolling down the road, people were talking on the corners of streets, gangsters lurked in alleyways, so basically it was a regular New Montego street.
The target left the building, and I aimed at him. The mark was supposed to be a thin, Caucasian male in a white suit. I saw the guy, but he didn’t have a briefcase on him. My earpiece buzzed.
“Shoot on sight, Agent.” I pulled the trigger and didn’t look back. I always killed my mark. As a gasp erupted from the streets and screams echoed, I jumped off the fifth floor. I grabbed onto a ledge on a different building, then used each floor’s side to grab and grapple down. I made it down to my getaway vehicle, a Maserati Gran Turismo with blacked out mirrors and a fake nameplate.
I drove off. This was always my favorite part, the getaway. Suddenly, I heard sirens behind me. I had been compromised. I looked at the rearview mirror to see two squad cars barreling towards me at full speed. I would have to go faster if I wanted to outpace them. I turned left into a deserted alleyway, then went left again onto 22nd street. The Crown Vics gave chase, but my car had the better handling, and I was able to lose them.
Since I had been compromised, I took a longer route along the countryside until I reached North Montego. I entered a Starbucks, and asked for a Venti Latte with extra swish. The guy at the desk nodded, but his hand movement pointed left, towards a half-hidden booth in the corner. I sat down, and pressed a miniscule button at the bottom left near my foot.
I fell into the small opening that appeared at my right, and landed in a telephone booth. I walked out into the headquarters of BPNAF, or Breaking Point National Assassination Federation.
