Chapter 9 “Taking Shadow to Shopping Part 2”

Elated after the special grab, the catling happily carried the phone and computer like a good shopper as she asked: “Is there anything else interesting here?”
Dawn replied with a smile: “That’s of course. There are so many more things to see: food, entertainment, clothing, and toys. Life today is much richer than in the past. Which experience would you like to try first?”
“Awesome! Oh great landlord, please show this young innocent damsel the way~” The catling teases with a flirty voice.
Next up was the woman’s clothing store. There, they found some lovely dresses for Shadow and some undergarments under the female clerk’s guidance. Dawn didn’t know anything about that so he could only carry the bags while inside that department.
Afterward, it was the game city street. That area was boisterous and difficult to transverse due to the crowds so he didn’t like it. Nevertheless, it was an excellent way to introduce Shadow to what it means to be an otaku in this modern era, which the catling promptly denied wanting any part.
Then came the food street. Oh the food, talk about being a glutton. Shadow was a genuine monster when it came to the stalls here. It didn’t matter what it was, she wanted it. Dawn had to wonder if this lady was even a cat at all for a while. The way she was eating, it’s better to say she’s a pigling than a catling.
Fortunately that didn’t matter to Dawn as a landlord. As long as Shadow was happy, he’s all good with it. His primary responsibility was watching her and not letting the girl do anything stupid.
“You tired?” The two sat on a bench in the bus station, awaiting their ride after a full day of fun.
“No, I’m fine,” Dawn says and pumps his arm to show those muscles. Of course, he’s been physically improved after that fruit so he’s not acting.
“Mmm… really?”
“Of course, why would I lie?”
Chuckling at that pose, Shadow couldn’t refute it: “That’s good then. I’m sorry, but I always lose myself like this when I play. If Landlord is tired then do tell me. I’ll be very upset otherwise if I end up burdening you with my bags.”
Shrugging his shoulder in a frank manner: “If you want to make amends for making me carry the shopping bags then pay more attention to that female ghost. My heart just can’t settle down after being a target.”
“Mmm… It would be best if you didn’t worry too much about her anymore. Those monster hunters didn’t come around by accident, you know.”
After such a reminder, Dawn suddenly realized he’s been assuming things without getting the proper details in order. He believed those people were here for Boink the hamsterling, but turns out it’s due to that ghost instead.

“That ghost is as good as gone after being a target of those monster hunters,” Shadow states this with a confident voice.
Dawn thought for a moment before asking further, “But what if those three monster hunters aren’t the female ghost’s opponent?”
Why couldn’t the logic be turned around if monster hunters could exterminate ghosts? That thing was so fierce. It’s clearly not some average spirit.
Shadow snickered a sneer at the fret, “Not an opponent? Then there will be stronger monster hunters coming. The pursuit will be endless until the ghost gets exterminated. This is why us monsters are so afraid of that bunch. They’re fanatics that don’t know when to give up.”
Goosebumps popped out of Dawn’s skin after hearing this detail. The guy didn’t realize how terrifying that group was at all and underestimated their resolve.
……
Not long after, both individuals returned home smoothly with satisfaction on their faces.
“Boink! Come out! We came back with delicious food!” Dawn shouts as soon as he enters the house.
Unfortunately, no response came even after a minute.
“What’s going on with Boink?” Dawn instinctively glanced at the kitchen table where they left the food this morning. It’s cleaned out already.
“Maybe he went out?” Shadow suggests.
“Probably not… he got startled by the monster hunters yesterday so I doubt he would go out again.” Dawn rubbed his chin as he analyzed the situation, “Let’s go take a look in his room.”
The two of them soon came before Boink’s room where they picked up the faint voice of the hamster. The walls were thin in this old home so it’s not hard to overhear this.
“Mmm, someone’s talking so I’m guessing he’s watching a movie?” Dawn muttered as he knocked on the door.
No response.
“If you don’t open the door then we’ll come in.” Dawn deliberately said this aloud because he’s afraid more people might be inside.
With a doorknob twist, it clicked and unlocked after he gave it a gentle push. What they saw next was something both individuals never expected.
