Chapter 15 “Inside the Barrier Part 1”

This Translation is hosted on https://bcatranslation.com/

The area they stopped at could only be called barren. Then again, it’s not much different from the rest of the suburbs in these parts. The truth was the population of the suburbs had never been high, and the southern part where Dawn’s home was built was even more remote. It’s less developed and bordered on the wilderness where mountains and lush forest lay. As such, there are several abandoned homes in the area.

According to the guy’s memory, this old decrepit-looking mansion belonged to an old couple that used to live here. But thanks to their children’s effort and hard work, the senior homeowners eventually moved to the city to enjoy the blessing of family life. Therefore, all that remained was this unattended house whose roof had collapsed and windows shattered.

“We’re here. Stay behind and don’t get near the barrier just yet.” Shadow orders the two before transforming back into her black kitty form with the tamer collar around the neck.

“Wait Shadow, is the barrier you are referring to the purple film in front of us?” Dawn points to the abandoned building and rubbed his eyes in surprise.

From his point of view, there’s a thin purple film suspended overhead, shrouding the entire structure with that oval shape like it’s a bowl.

That instantly startled both the catling and hamsterling. Then exchanging a look between themselves, the two cried out in unison: “Landlord can see the barrier?”

Freezing in his movement, the guy scratched his face and wondered why the outburst: “Uhh… is it strange that I can see it?”

“No… Seeing the barrier is nothing special to the two of us, but you’re supposed to be a normal human. Ordinary folks can’t see the magic, you know?” Shadow waves her paw to dismiss the issue, “Hmmm, let’s put this aside for later. Everyone has their secrets. Let’s enter the barrier and get a good idea of the situation first.”

Although both tenants were surprised by Dawn’s ability, they did not intend to ask for more details. After all, this was no place and time to do such a thing. Besides, the guy already knew why he could do so, and that was the fruit he ate from the spin wheel so he didn’t want to explain either.

The catling went ahead first to lead the way, followed closely by Dawn and Boink on his shoulder after shrinking in size. They’re wary in the face, which got justified after they stepped through the boundary. Instead of the cool night atmosphere outside, the grounds inside were gloomy and hair-raising like they entered some dark evil place.

Out of an instinct to live, Dawn’s legs wanted to pull back and run right then and there. Thankfully he managed to stop that urge; otherwise, it would be humiliating to face his tenants afterward. Likewise, Boink the hamsterling wasn’t faring so well either. The hamster’s expressionless, but the grip in his paws around the guy’s shoulder told Dawn all he needed to know of his emotions – he’s tense and nervous.

“After the fighting starts, we will ignore the monster hunters and let them be. Landlord, you stay in the rear farther away and don’t do anything. Boink, you use your phantom illusions to assist me.” Shadow whispered the plan and jumped over the fencing.

….

Past the front fencing of the open courtyard, one of the three monster hunters had fallen unconscious and laid on the ground unmoving. If not for the heavy heaving in the chest, one could assume he’s dead by this point.

As for the female monster hunter in their party that spoke with Dawn before, the lady’s ankle had swollen up due to a sprain from the combat. The only reason she’s even able to keep herself up was the wall she’s leaning in against; otherwise, the lady’s no better than the unconscious hunter.

Now that leaves the last and remaining hunter capable of fighting. Though combat-ready, this one likely suffered some kind of internal injury based on the blood trickling down from the mouth.

Then there’s the female ghost, the main objective of Dawn and his party’s trip tonight. Long haired and wearing a blue dress hidden behind the darkness, the red glowing eyes were particularly terrifying to look at when matched with the threads of blood which was in fact her hair!

“Green, how many spirit arrows do you have left?” The female monster hunter asks with gritted teeth after accessing their options.

“None. I used the last two to save you just now. Red probably still has some left on his coat!” Hunter Green was the last one fighting so he understood what his counterpart was thinking. “I say Plum, if we ever survive this then how about you become my girlfriend?”
