Chapter 18 “Monster Alliance Part 2”

This Translation is hosted on https://bcatranslation.com/

“If you call me stupid hamster again then I won’t take it.” Boink verbally retorts but still takes his card out regardless.

Dawn also got curious and peeked over. However, what he saw wasn’t anything special per se, just your average ID with the name, address, age, and a human picture of a young teen.

“Am I handsome or what?” Boink cocks his head proudly and gloats.

Dawn agreed with the hamster that the picture was quite the looker compared to his own deplorable pie face. But after taking another glance at the card, another question had popped up in the guy’s head.

“Hey Boink, you can transform?”

Boink shook his head: “Of course not, but I can just barely force a face out to take a picture for this ID. It’s just a matter of time before I can though.”

“Mmmm… Is it difficult to take human form?”

“Not necessarily. Some monsters will have it easier than others. I belong to the difficult type. But in the West though, some races are born with similar features to that of humans so they don’t even need to try. I’m so envious of them….”

“What are you envying them for?” Shadow interrupts the hamster and lightly comments, “Just because they’re able to maintain a human form at birth doesn’t mean it’s a good thing. There was a bunch just like that thinking they were humans and ran to the monster hunters demanding appropriate treatment in the past. I don’t think I need to go into detail on what happened next, do I?”

Boink and Dawn’s eyes were popping in surprise over the story. They didn’t expect such an idiotic group to exist. It’s like having freebies running over to you and boosting your performance score in a company. Imagine the bonus that year for those hunters!

“Uuuh… I can’t copy this.” Shadow sighed helplessly and handed the ID back to Boink, “So what is this Monster Alliance for?”

Back in her times, there weren’t any alliances for monster kind. At best, it’s a tribe or race huddling together in a region to live.

“It’s an organization that specializes in providing help and services to us monsters. The only con is that you must follow their rules once you join, meaning your freedom will be greatly limited. Pro side though, you do get protection from the Alliance if you are weak.”

Boink had long expected that she would ask this question so the answer was quick and ready. “In short, there are many rules like the law in human society. If you can accept this then living within the Alliance’s boundary is easy and carefree.”

“Do you have to join them for an ID card?” Shadow’s brow furrowed deeper.

“Of course not, applying for an ID is just a service. It’s open to all monsters. But like I said, powerful beings like you are prone to further review, especially one that’s missing for a long time. The procedures will be very troublesome and tedious.”

After a long musing, Shadow shifts her face over to the human, “Landlord, am I able to live here for a long time?”

“That’s right,” Dawn answered without hesitation. He had no objection to the proposal in the slightest. After all, the lady did save his life so that’s the least he could do.

“Then we can put the ID card issue aside for now.” Shadow heaves a sigh of relief. In her mind, there’s nothing wrong with simply loafing around at home since she didn’t have a shortage of money.

Contrary to the lazy attitude of the lady, Dawn on the other hand was working his brain at full throttle after hearing the details. It’s then a weird idea hit him. “Ummm… isn’t the Alliance similar to an Animal Rescue Center?”

Shadow and Boink both exchanged an astonished look among themselves as soon as this remark came out. They thought about it and wanted to rebuke the idea, but realized it’s exactly as the guy said.

“Landlord… you better not say that outside. If anyone from the Monster Alliance hears you, they will not take it lying down.” It’s the hamster who broke the weird awkwardness first since he knew more.

“……” Dawn rubs the back of his in apology. It seems he hit the bullseye with that theory.
