It turns out that Molie does not live too far from the forest, and they walk over to her house within a few minutes, “Huh I could visit Molie whenever I want this summer.” Jade files that information away for more important training hangouts! When the house finally comes into view it is a glorious yellow blob, a large suburban stable adorned with one of the strangest paint jobs one could imagine. The facade is yellow and accompanied with massive painted flowers on every wall with the foundation being a nice mixture of brown and green to create an overall sunny and faux natural appearance to the house. Jade’s face was slapped by the strong scent of flowers: the roses in the garden, the mint by the windows, and the beautiful fragrance of freshly cut grass. Everything about Molie’s house contrasted Jade’s standard suburban one, embracing a wilder and fun look.
Heading inside, there was the sweet smell of maple syrup paired with the buttery fragrance of freshly made pancakes. A large clutter of dishes can be heard before a soft and motherly voice calls out in approach, “Hello! You must be Molie’s friend, Jade.“ Molie’s mother is a smile that shines all too brightly that glimmers well with her blonde hair and blue eyes that are crinkled kindly. She’s a relatively short woman dressed in a floral green blouse paired with a rose colored skirt. Jade finds the appearances of Molie’s brunette and brightly colored outfit with all its rainbows and yellows, the flannel father, and the floral mother creates a very foresty family. “Have you eaten recently? It just turned noon so it’s about lunch time for us.” Jade feels her words gum up in her throat a little, recognizing how out of place she feels “No, it's been a few hours.” Somehow the mother’s smile seems to brighten even further, “Good! Let’s get you a nice meal.”
Before Jade even has a moment to think, suddenly she finds herself seated at a homely dining table with the whole family eating a warm and nice meal. The pancakes are stacked high in the center next to a similarly large pile of bacon. Rather than the slow and quiet dinners of Jade’s family, Molie’s are loud and rambunctious with Molie’s dad constantly spewing laughter for every joke her Mother shares and vice versa. Molie whines loudly about how her parents are embarrassing her in front of Jade and tries to get them to change the subject. “Yesterday I swung by the bat store.” Molie’s mom unapologetically lets out a howl of laughter and Molie continues to blush further. “Did you hear about the rumor about butter? Well, I’m not going to spread it!” Jade thinks…it’s just so warm, nice… and punny. Jade can’t even recall the last time she just got to sit down with her parents. Jade’s smile for once feels a little false on her face.
After lunch, Molie takes Jade up to her room to show her around and upon arriving she sees walls with flower decor, a pink dresser with flowers, a closet with even more flower decals, and her carpet is also flower patterned! Jade is beginning to realize that Molie’s family aesthetic is mainly extremes of nature. Molie’s bed is, contrary to the flower theme, more stuffed animal than bed, a fluffy nest that draws her closer. Molie takes a seat on the plush throne and makes a small groan before a crackle is heard and her bug arms come out, scooping through the neck of the shirt. Jade says, “Do you think we could create an outfit for you? You could have holes in the back so that your arms could come out without tearing anything like last time.” “OH! You mean like a superhero outfit!?” Molie grins manically. “No, I mean like a magic girl outfit like mine!” Molie pouts. “You know we’re closer to superheroes than magic girls right? I‘ve got these cool mutated arms and you’ve got a super body and lightning, not very magicky! Very superheroey!” “And who’s had these superheroey powers the longest out of us two?” Molie bristles at Jade’s authority by experience. “Well whatever, either way I still need an outfit so I can be a better hero.” Jade pulls out her phone.
Looking online revealed nothing of note when they searched, ‘bug arm superhero’ as the inquiry. And it always tried to auto correct to ‘big arm superhero’. They were left without options and decided to look in Molie’s closet. They find a nice green sundress to start with, “This looks good, how about we use this?” Jade holds it over Molie and then herself. Jade thinks about how good she Molie would look in it. Molie nods in agreement. “Ok lets get some paper and glue.'' Together they cut out flowers and glued them to the green dress to make a flowery outfit before cutting slits in the back for the arms to come out of. They don’t make a mask, they don’t give it any additional features such as tactical maneuverability, protection, or even simply a more durable material. It’s literally a green sundress with paper flowers glued on with poorly cut holes in the back for powerful bug arms to stick out of, and of course Molie is elated by it! “Look at me! I look like a superhero already!” Jade glances at it left and right and back at her own uniform, “You look like a real magic girl now!” Molie’s face scrunches up at that, “You know even if we’re a team you could just be the magic girl and I could be the super hero right?” Jade does not take the compromise, “No it’s either a magic girl duo or nothing!” Molie lets out an exasperated sigh, “Well,we can decide later. For now, let's test this out.”
Checking that the door is locked, she starts talking her arms out. Molie slowly adjusts her arms in their folded position before popping out with a loud crack. “The sound you make when you take it out is really loud, does that hurt?” Molie shakes her head, “No, it actually feels quite satisfying, kind of like stretching my arms after lying on them for awhile.” They continue to unfurl with black carapace plates sliding over one another, reaching out a full 2 meters, “Man, they turn real stiff when I leave them folded for more than a few hours.” Jade takes a moment to behold Molie in all her completed outfit glory. To Jade she sees an incredibly awesome magic girl with a cool floral dress similar to her own matched with badass arms in contrast to the cute Molie with a button nose and wide smile, creating an adorable yet impressive image. To anybody else they would see an adorable girl in a ruined sundress with terrifying bug arms that look like they could behead you in a singular moment. Rather than a magic girl, she looked like an innocent girl turned mutant ready to charge. Jade yells, “I LOVE IT!”
