Chapter 20: Going off again

Orion helped Ethinir and Ossilo pack their things. They had stopped at Alexei's place for an entire week, but now it was time to go. The younger vampire was sad to see them go. So much so, that he wanted to come with them.

"I don't understand why can't I come at least to the next village, master. I mean, people over at Lute village know of me," Alexei said. He had visited a couple of times, disguised by potions. Still, the villagers knew that there was a vampire in their forest.

"Pitchforks, when rammed into the back, can make you fall over, and become easy to carry off to a pyre. Don't make me start on what happens when they are rammed in the ass," Orion told him. He was not going to let Alexei talk him into coming with them, until he had scouted out the village for himself. "Who is the local lord?"

"Lord Richard Aswan," Alexei said. "What does it matter?"

"Back in Drumm village, it was lord Harrison Erion that talked the villagers into lying down their pitchforks," Orion told the younger vampire. If it hadn't been for Lord Erion, then Orion would have done something he would have regretted.

"You were threatened with pitchforks?" Alexei asked. His brows furrowed, and he made to speak some more.

"I was accused of being a wizard, because of a joke this book made," Orion waved the book in the air. "An illusion of a flying pig is never a good idea."

"A flying pig?" Alexei asked, and they heard oinking. Alexei's eyes widened, as he saw a pig with wings at his feet. He bent to touch the wings, but his hands passed through the animal.

"What in the world?" He asked, as Orion slapped the book.

"Not funny, system," the book vibrated, and he opened it with a long-suffering sigh.

<I dare say it is quite fun. Should I manifest a flying wagon next, master? One with wings?>

"How about you manifest more brain cells in your empty head, you brat?" Orion snapped, and he got another message.

<Meanie,> the system then showed him a blank page.

"Can I read the book, master?" Alexei reached out for it, but Orion took it away.

"No, not unless I die. There is a curse on it that makes it impossible for anyone to read the book until the vampire that is reading it kicks it," Orion told his protégé, and then looked to Ossilo and Ethinir. "Still, I can give you hints on how to be peaceful, if that is what you want."

"That would be great," Alexei said, and he waved Ivan over.

"Vanya, guess what, I will be peaceful from now on," the vampire told his lover with a blinding smile.

"Well, about time. Your bad boy act was getting old," the brown-haired man said, and Alexei pouted at him.

"No, it can't be. You love my bad boy act," Alexei went, and hugged his lover. "And you love it when I talk dirty to you, sweetling."

"It has its allure, but it is getting old," Ivan insisted, and then turned to Orion. "Is he always going to be like that?"

"Like a horny teenager? He will outgrow it to be..." Orion didn't want to say grumpy and reserved. He remembered when he was Alexei's age. Actually twenty, and freshly turned. It had been a joy, and a jump from one wizard's bed to the next. Then, as the years passed, and Lilia had left him to get a son who wasn't just a horny brat, he had cooled down.

"Good to hear," Ivan said, and then patted Alexei. "I just wish that he can be more level-headed sooner."

"Anyway, I think I can help with that," Orion said, and then patted Alexei on the head, like he was a puppy. "First step of being peaceful, don't challenge people to an honor duel, or you will get the failure badge, and I will tan your hide."

"I am too old for a spanking, old man," Alexei bit back, but Orion just flicked his nose.

"Look, I will go scout out Lute village, and then come back in here. If the lord gives permission for you and Ivan to visit the village in broad daylight, then I will make sure that I get you both on the way back," Orion told him, and then went to the driver's seat of the wagon. "I guess this is goodbye, for now?"

"We look forward to seeing you again," Alexei said, a wide grin on his face.

"Will you miss me, little brat?" Orion teased, and Alexei pocked his tongue out.

"Like I would miss fleas," Alexei retorted, and then stepped to the side, Ivan still in his arms. "Thank you for the golden apple, I was going to turn Ivan otherwise."

"You were?" Ivan asked, his eyes wide.

"I know you wanted to grow old with me, but I am greedy, my sweetling. I want eternity with you, so please, don't be angry," Alexei said, and he nuzzled his nose with Ivan's.

"That was the nicest thing you have ever said," Ivan spoke, as he let out a laugh that was so carefree, that Alexei had to blink.

"Did you doubt that I love you? Because you are my first and only love, despite how much I flirt with others," Alexei said, unknowingly, the right thing. Ivan hugged him tight, and kissed him then.

"You keep talking like that, and we can make use of the hot spring that you like so much," Ivan whispered into Alexei's ear, and then bit the earlobe.

"Is this one of the benefits of being peaceful?" Alexei asked, amazed.

"Among other things," Orion told him with a wink. He urged Gray and Ebony to move, and Ossilo and Ethinir waved their goodbyes as well.

"Ah, young love," Ossilo murmured, wrapping his tail around Ethinir's legs. "Like a sweet nectar, it is."

"Our love is just as sweet, Brightest Star," Orion told him, as he had the two horses turn a corner. "And we have many years ahead of us, for me to show you."
