The man’s face turned red. An unsettling murmur grew louder and louder.

I hurriedly grabbed Pedro’s pants.

“Hey… Let’s go back.”

You’re not even my real brother, so don’t be angry for me.

Pedro looked at my face for a while, then let go of the man’s wrist and clapped his hand over his head.

“Now, if you understand, everyone dissolves!”

Little by little, the people who were gossiping dispersed. The drunken man patted his swollen wrist and passed Pedro frantically.

A group of men ran and supported him. Their faces were full of broken pride.

“It’s funny. If you are a prince, is that the princess who came back after 10 years?”

Apparently he was very drunk, the man spewed mockery even while he was running away.

“Tsk, honestly, who knows if she’s real or not. Seeing her healthy complexion, she must have enjoyed living with the kidnapper.”

Whether he was trying to appease his friend, the party who helped him agreed one by one.

“Honestly, if she was raised by another father for 10 years, wouldn’t they be a family?”

“She might want to go back to the kidnapper.”

I could hear all the rude remarks. Pedro has really good ears. So he would have heard it.

Bugh!

He was only kicked once, and the man flew away as if he had been hit by a carriage.

The people who were heading back home looked back.

Pedro muttered, patting the foot that had kicked the man.

“You…”

Thick fangs were exposed between Pedro’s lips. It was a mark of a beast.

“Just crossed the line.”

Crash!

Pedro bounced like an arrow. He soon turned into a wolf.

The luscious black hair covered the empty flesh, and the prince-like clothes were ripped. As if neat uniforms didn’t suit him from the beginning.

A black wolf bit the fallen man and threw him against a stone wall.

Grrr.

The roaring of the beast was scary.

“Ahhhhhh!”

“What, what’s going on?!”

The men’s party squirmed around and ran away without taking care of their friend who wriggled on the floor.

Even the spectators dispersed, screaming.

The square was completely paralyzed.

“…Brother!”

I hurriedly ran to the wolf.

This was not the duchy. If he went on like this, he would end up turning the whole of the emperor’s land upside down.

“Brother Pedro!”

‘Is it right for me to call him like this, who is not even his younger sister?’

When I was trying to block the wolf, someone pulled me from the back.

“Get off!”

Boom!

A giant man flew like a cannonball in the direction I was going to go.

At some point, I almost got crushed by it.

When I turned my head, I saw disorganized blond hair and red eyes.

Michael pushed me behind the overturned cart.

“What’s wrong with Brother Pedro?”

“…These people pushed me on the shoulder.”

“And?”

“Looking at me, they said someone else raised me for 10 years…”

“That’s it.”

Michael understood it well even though I hadn’t even said it until the end.

“Stay here. Brother can’t see anything right now. That’s the reason he puts a dog collar on when he goes out to subjugate.”

When it came to dog collars, was he referring to the collar I saw at the training hall?

“He doesn’t have that necklace now?”

“He doesn’t have it. He must have come to enjoy the festival, and wouldn’t have known that he was going to go berserk.”

“But, then… Are we going to leave him like that?”

I turned to Pedro. It seemed difficult even for him, who was running and wildly breathing out.

But Michael turned my chin and spoke firmly.

“Yeah, even if this city falls, you can’t get hurt.”

At that time, a man outside of my field of vision who was half out of his mind threw out a small axe.

The axe spun and flew toward me, not the wolf.

Oh, if I stayed like this, I’d get hit…

Bugh!

There was a loud noise. It wasn’t the sound of me being hit with an axe.

The axe was blocked by a sword with a loud sound, it was broken.

In the square where the lights had disappeared, two jade-colored lights were clearly visible.

It’s human… no. It was the eyes of the black leopard beast.

“Did you get hurt?”

The low-pitched voice was familiar.

I couldn’t answer right away, and my mouth was stiff like a crucian carp.

“Dad, why are you here…?”

“Ahhhhh!”

Suddenly, as if injury had been inflicted onto the citizens, screams could be heard everywhere.

Alan narrowed his eyes and lowered his head.

“Wait a minute… count the numbers.”

Alan kicked his foot and pushed the wolf away like a lightning bolt.

Pedro didn’t even recognize Alan and struggled. But Alan didn’t see any gaps.

“Lily is watching, Pedro.”

Boom!

Alan mercilessly trampled on Pedro’s neck.

Pedro was a complete wolf and Alan was in human form, but the difference in strength was too obvious.

The size of the wolf, who was breathing heavily, gradually decreased.

Alan took off his cloak, threw it over his son, and said coldly.

“I think I’ve told you to protect your sister.”

“……”

“Didn’t you say you wouldn’t get out of control, Pedro?”

“I endured it for 10 years… I thought it would be okay. I’m sorry.”

Pedro sat on the floor and covered his eyes with one hand.

Red blood trickled down his forehead as if he had been injured on his head.

Alan turned towards me without a single word of consolation.

“You stay here and restore the honor of the House Bauner. Lily and I go to the Imperial Palace.”

Alan held me in one arm. Before I could ask, ‘Why are you here?’ he said,

“Her Majesty has agreed to an audience with you.”

“…What?”

“I’ll tell you the details as we go.”

Alan moved forward.

I saw Michael touching his hand while I was like a sack of barley over Alan’s shoulder.

Before I even asked if he could bring the child too, Alan talked first.

“Benimus fled from the imperial palace.”

***

Benimus was walking through a dark wasteland.

A box large enough to fit his body was wrapped around a rope and dragged.

In the darkness where heaven and earth could not be distinguished, he suddenly looked back.

He saw the World Tree in the distance. Hundreds of millions of branches held up the great empire.

The dome-shaped barrier that contained the continent and the sea shone brilliantly.

It was a majestic sight, but if you looked closely, it was not as beautiful as it seemed.

Black monsters were climbing up the trunk of the World Tree like worms.

Evil spirits were trying to break the barrier and enter.

Benimus was standing still, and an evil spirit came up behind him.

It twisted its parched body, and then immediately rushed towards Benimus.

Crack!

There was the sound of something breaking.

Benimus slowly turned his head to the evil spirit.

Whooo, whooo.

The evil spirit that had been caught by Benimus cried out sadly.

Suddenly, Benimus’ right hand, which had been transformed like mud, wrapped around the evil spirit fiercely.

Its body, which was already half-broken, twisted relentlessly.

The monster was crushed like a piece of paper and then shattered.

Its head rolled over and over at Benimus’ feet.

The teeth of the evil spirit clashing hard into Benimus’ feet were reflected.

Even after the body and head were separated, the evil spirit tried to bite Benimus.

It wasn’t threatening, but it was annoying. Benimus frowned and thought.

‘Stop.’

Then something surprising happened.

Even after it was shattered, the evil spirit that was struggling to kill Benimus suddenly shut its mouth.

Benimus tilted his head, holding the calm evil spirit’s head in one hand.

“Why?”

There were many times when evil spirits answered his calls. But it was limited to ‘come when I call,’ and they did not understand sophisticated orders.

“Is this my ability too…?”

Benimus was troubled for a moment, but he quickly dismissed it.

The boy didn’t know much about himself. Not only how he was born as a monster, but also exactly what he can do.

So, even if he discovered a new ability, he wasn’t very impressed. Because there was a lot more he didn’t know.

He opened the box that had been dragged to the middle of the wasteland.

At the same time, the sound of hitting hard fangs resounded everywhere.

Inside the box were a lot of evil spirits’ heads.

“It’s still not enough.”

Benimus threw the head of the evil spirit he had just hunted into the box and closed the lid.

Even when the sound of fangs clashing disappeared, the surroundings were still noisy.

Benimus gently closed his eyes and returned his right hand to its human shape.

If he was in the barrier, it would have been nighttime, but he wasn’t sleepy.

He had heard that ordinary people fall asleep on their own at night. As if it was instinct.

But it wasn’t like that for Benimus.

From a young age, he only fell asleep when his mother requested so, and he was always awake at all other times.

When he asked if he was strange, his mother would reply like this,

“You’re not strange. You’re a special kid.”

Even as his mother said so, she did not let Benimus out of the house.

Thanks to this, it wasn’t until the age of 9 that Benimus found out that other people couldn’t hear the cries of evil spirits.

“It was because the crying sound was unique.”

There was a day when his mother cried for no reason.

Usually, if it was an ordinary child, it would not have been strange to cry along with her.

But Benimus just stared at her. It was like looking at an interesting landscape.

His tearful mother was, of course, angry. But Benimus also had a good reason.

“It’s because it’s amazing. It’s different from what I usually hear, so that’s why.”

“What do you mean with what you usually hear?”

“I hear it from the ground. Very loud.”

“…How does it cry?”

“It’s woo, woo, woo.”

Woo, woo.

The evil spirit cried again.

The constant crying was not only because it came out of the barrier.

Benimus had heard that tearful cry since birth.

Day and night, on and on.

There was no way to escape the screams coming from the ground.

Benimus put the rope tied to the box around his shoulders and walked away.

The more he walked into the darkness, the more the crying grew louder.

“…It’s noisy.”

Benimus closed his eyes involuntarily.

It was a natural feeling, but he was a little surprised even when he said it himself.

If he hadn’t met her, he wouldn’t have known that this noise was loud.

“Because I have… only you.”

It reminded him of a girl with red hair.

The moment she spoke, the boy could only hear her voice.

It wasn’t an analogy. When he was next to her, the cry of the evil spirits which had followed him all his life disappeared like a lie.

It was his first time tasting it.
