Walking to her big brother's room with a wooden tray in her hands, Nangong Jiaying hummed her favorite song. After arriving at her brother's room, she immediately cleared her throat and slide open the bamboo door.

"GēgēElder brother, how long are you going to--?"

"I'm already up."

"Ah? How did you wake up so early? Did you hit your head or something?"

Seeing his sister stare at him in disbelief as though the person in front of her wasn't her elder brother, Nangong Xu couldn't help but sigh inwardly. With his little sister waking him up with a pot of tea in her hand, it was supposed to be a nice way to start the day. If not for the book currently in his hands, it really should be a nice morning. Then, he heard his sister gasped exaggeratedly, "Gē... What happened to your forehead? Did you really hit your head?"

The corner Nangong Xu's mouth twitched uncontrollably as he shot his sister a playful glare. "Ying-er should already head out to the training grounds, right?"

"Gē, please hide me this once!"

"That's what you said last time too and I got beaten for it."

"Gē..," she said with teary eyes.

If it were the him before he read the book, he might not be able to resist her tears but it was different now. "Go now or else I'll snitch on you."

"You... You meanie!" Nangong Jiaying shoved the tray onto him and stormed off of his room. Looking at her small back slowly disappearing from his sight, Nangong Xu stuck out his tongue. He let out a huff and put the tray on the small table beside his hard rock bed. After, he moved his gaze to the thing he had been holding this whole time.

Earlier at dawn, he was awoken by the sudden pain on his forehead, as if something hard had fallen on him. He shot his eyes open and rubbed the red spot on his forehead. As a peak-rate martial artist, if something were to move in their sleep, it would undoubtedly wake them up. However, Nangong Xu didn't notice anything while he was sleeping and as a result, his forehead was bruised. It could mean that the book appeared out of nowhere or that someone way out of his league left it there.

"Where did this book come from?"

While he was reading the content of the book, he couldn't help but frown. In the book, some people he knew were the main characters and he was also inside it. But what made him frown wasn't that.

Sure, it was mentioned that he was killed later in the book because of the main villain. But it wasn't that either. He was a warrior through and through, seeing deaths wasn't something rare to him and he wouldn't even mind if he died by the hands of those stronger than him.

The true reason was that the person he didn't like was actually the protagonist. The person who dared to make his sister infatuated with him was the protagonist. The person who actually disrespected the name of the Nangong Clan was him, the protagonist.

Nangong Clan, one of the five great clans in Central Plains, was the most prominent family to practice the way of the swords. From generation to generation, the Nangong Family would without fail give birth to exceptional martial artists. Every single one of the Nangong Family's descendants would learn sword arts, including females unlike most. From a very tender age of five, the first thing they held was the sword instead of toys.

The descendants of the Nangong Clan all worked hard for their strength. Even if they could get pills and elixir from the family, the amount was scarce!

One pill was enough to let everyone in the Nangong Clan live with comfort for two years. How could it be handed out so easily? The only time it was distributed was when one became the lord of the clan or that one had achieved great things in the name of Nangong Clan.

Even Nangong Xu, one of the successor candidates didn't get any pills at all and yet, he had become a first-rate warrior at 15 years old. That was all the result of his hard work and yet... yet!

This person dared to mock him by saying that he could only achieve so much just because of his family. How could he not get mad?!

However, after reading the book, he understood a little. Since the book was from the protagonist's point of view, he could read what the protagonist was thinking. The protagonist actually thought of him as a cocky, spoiled young master. Back then, he seemed like a brat who didn't know how the world works.

After all, Nangong Xu had misunderstood that the protagonist was bullying his little sister when it was only a friendly sparring match. He lashed out, wanting to skin this bastard who dared bully Jiaying alive. He challenged the protagonist fearlessly.

In the end, he also got beaten and almost shed tears (He lied. He had cried in his room for who knows how long). Who would like anyone that beat you black and blue, huh? (Some masochistic people they are)

But that was a few years ago (But he's still sour when he remembered that a person younger than him managed to beat him up).

Now, three years had passed and he was 19 years old. His sister's now 17 years old and was of marriageable age. He's also of marriageable age but he wanted to stay single until he could surpass the Transcendent realm which was... not very long from now too.

Anyway, he still had to convince his father not to marry his sister to the protagonist just because of the agreement with the Tang Family of Sichuan. It's not that he didn't want his sister to get together with the person she loved but this person.... this guy would catch wives like Pokemons! (he doesn't know what pokemon means but the book had mentioned it a few times, must be an insult) Imagine how heartbroken his sister would be if married to a bastard like that?

Moreover, the protagonist was an oddball even amongst the Tang family members. He decided to wield a sword (and he was good at it too!) instead of learning to wield daggers or needles which needed more delicate skills. Because of this, he was considered an outcast that wasn't included in the succession battle for the lord's position, meaning the Tang family only gave the Nangong Clan the leftovers that nobody even wanted. How outrageous!

"Bastard... How dare you," Nangong Xu showed an ugly expression and almost couldn't hold himself from crumpling the book in his hands. Nangong Xu barely managed to stay calm and get out of his room, leaving the already lukewarm tea Jiaying had given him.

In the book, there are few mentionings of someone betraying the lord of the Nangong Family that would lead to the Nangong Clan to ruin. The rats were still lurking around with ease in his own home. Thinking about that, Nangong Xu clenched his hands as he strode towards his father's room. He must lay an urgent message to his father, the lord of the Nangong Clan. In the near future, something would turn the Central Plains upside down.

The book was still a mysterious entity and he couldn't just trust it fully. However, the survival of his clan depended on this book. No matter what, he still had to make sure and had some few precautions. After all, they're all not just characters in the book but real people. They're not just words written on paper but also flesh.

This anxiety of his... Who knew if it really would happen. Along the way, he came across one of the lord's trusted subordinates, Wei Caoqing.

"Lao-Wei, have you seen the lord?"

"Does the young master need to see the lord at the moment?"

"Is he busy? If he is then, just tell him that after he's done with everything, make sure to summon me as soon as possible."

"Understood."

With that, Wei Caoqing bowed and left. Nangong Xu turned to walk to the training grounds to check on his little sister just in case she decided to sneak out instead of practicing her sword art. The situation in the manor was peaceful. A bit too peaceful. Nangong Xu had a bad feeling about this and his bad feelings were never been unfounded before.

And... What he had feared, happened. There was no one at the training grounds.

Nangong Xu almost coughed out blood and got a qi deviation. Nangong Xu coughed a few times. His Jiaying was like a wild horse. It could be reigned by no one except for a few select of people. He wasn't one of them unfortunately, he had spoiled her a bit too much when they were younger.

He eventually calmed down and assessed the situation on the training grounds. There were some footprints here and there, meaning that she hadn't disappeared for too long. Nangong Xu couldn't help but be relieved. At least, he could catch up if he used qinggong.A skill to make one's body lighter

He calmly opened the book once more and read the chapters where the protagonist and Jiaying's reunion happened. The reunion might not necessarily happen today but, if he remembered correctly, the reunion was near.

... A few years had passed since I last come here.

Looking around at the buzzling street, I couldn't help but be giddy. Ever since I went here a few years ago, I still couldn't forget the taste of Liuli Pavilion's noodles. Now that I'm here again, I must buy a few bowls!

After all, this place was the only place that had noodles close to the instant noodles in my last life. Ah... MSG, I missed you so much.

I walked for a few minutes, stealing a glance at the food stalls and drooling at the sight of delicious temptation but preserve for the noodles. My money is not limitless after all. Even though I've seen it a few times in the past, I still couldn't kelp but marvel at the number of people wanting to enter the pavilion.

Well, I can't blame them. Once I got there and wanted to enter, a strong looking warrior stopped me with his big hand.

"Beggars are not welcomed here, scram."

"Beggar?" I said dumbfoundedly. Then I looked at the way I dressed but it was perfectly fine and didn't look like a beggar's at all.

"From what part do I look like a beggar?" The warrior scoffed when he heard me.

"Don't take me for a fool. Even though your clothing is like that of a young master, your appearance is of that of a beggar!"

My appearance?

Then it dawned to me that the people of this time always have long hair to show one's status. The only ones to have short hair are beggars and criminals. No wonder!

Just when I was about to explain, a familiar voice came from afar. "Let him in!"

I turned my head towards the source of the voice and couldn't help but exclaim, "Miss Nangong?"

Even the warrior suddenly became meek in front of her, "Young mistress, do you perhaps know this gentleman?"

"Yes, he is the esteemed guest of the Nangong Clan so please make way for him."

"Y-yes! Please come in good sir!"

Opening the door, the warrior respectfully bowed a few times. I once again marveled at Nangong Clan's influence in this city. I clasped my hand and greeted her, "Tang Chen of the Tang Family greets Miss Nangong. I wonder what I can do to repay the kindness of the young miss?"

Nangong Jiaying stroked her chin as she contemplated before finally saying, "Later evening, come accompany me on the mid-autumn festival?"...

Nangong Xu: "..."

Shit. Wasn't that today?

It must be prevented at all cost! He must prevent the cabbage he'd so painstakingly raised to be eaten by a pig!白菜被豬拱了 is an old saying in Chinese, meaning something great that you spent much time and effort raising/nurturing got stolen or snatched away. In this case, Nangong Xu is afraid that his sister would be ruined once she had a relationship with Tang Chen AKA boyfriend.

Your gēgē wanted to cry, ah, mèimei! Younger sister
