Chapter 23 - I want to be a brick and go where I'm needed (3)
"Of course it's okay. We have to let other know your kind effort," Committee Member Hu said with a smile." Most importantly, the trade union was placed first in the thank you letter and had the longest section devoted to it. This would assist their department in showing the role of the trade union to the other leaders in the factory.
Su Yu nodded. She scratched her head in awkwardness. "Okay, I'll listen to the arrangements of the trade union's leadership. Whatever you guys say goes."
It was only now that Yan Xiaofang noticed that she had cut her hair short. "Why did you cut your hair short? It wasn't easy to grow out your hair to that length."
Su Yu looked at everyone. "It was thanks to everyone's care and concern that I was able to make it through this time. I don't have anything to repay your kindness, so I'm determined to learn from Comrade Liu Hulan and contribute my all to the cause of the motherland's development! I want to learn her undaunted spirit! Her wholehearted dedication to the people!"
Committee Member Zhang patted her shoulder. "Comrade Su Yu, well said!"
After Su Yu left, the rest of the trade union read Su Yu's letter.
Committee Member Zhang said with a smile, "Old Hu, I think this looks like a document written by your department."
"It is very similar. I can tell she read a lot of advanced books and newspapers. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to write such positive and progressive content." This letter was enough to prove that she was knowledgeable. If she can write a thank you note so wonderfully, then her articles won't be any worse.
Committee Member Hu looked for writing paper and prepared to transcribe it for the factory newspaper. But after taking another look at Su Yu's handwriting, she was a bit reluctant. Never mind, for such good handwriting, she'll print it as is.
"It's a pity. Her education isn't enough," Committee Member Hu muttered.
Next to her, Yan Xiaofang suddenly thought of something. To work in the trade union office, a vocational degree or a highschool degree was the minimum requirement. Comrade Su Yu's education was only at the middle school level. If she had enough academic qualifications, with her excellent handwriting and ability to write such a good essay, she might have already entered the trade union office and wouldn't have fainted from overworking.
Su Yu didn't know what was happening over at the trade union. Although her goal was to work in the trade union office, she didn't expect to succeed at once. Some things couldn't be rushed. After she left the trade union, she went straight to the production department to look for Workshop Director Xu.
Director Xu was also a veteran in the factory. She had watched Su Yu and her younger brother grow up. However, the original owner had a silent temperament and didn't like to bother people. Her work performance also conformed with the norms of society, so she didn't have much interaction with her.
Su Yu didn't care that they didn't have much previous contact. There was only one thing on her mind. Anyways, the original owner and Director Xu had known each other for many years.
And so, when she saw Director Xu, tears freely flowed down her face. "Director Xu, I almost didn't make it this time. Thank you so much for your care. Otherwise, I don't know what to do… You're my great benefactor. I don't know how to repay you. Whatever you need, just tell me. I'll definitely do it without any objects."
Suddenly being promoted to the position of savior, Director Xu felt a bit floaty. When she looked at Su Yu, there was a bit more sympathy. How pitiful, she almost died of exhaustion at her work post.
"Director Xu, I feel so guilty. How could I have fainted? That delayed work by so much. I'm ready. I have to work even harder. Even if I die of exhaustion for the sake of the factory, I'm not afraid. Director, please arrange work for me. Give me the hardest work. I can bear it!"
Die of exhaustion? That won't do!
Director Xu hastily waved her hand. "No, no, you just came out of the hospital. Don't push your body too hard. Just go organize the cotton threads and help others for the next few days. There are many people in the factory. We're not lacking your strength. Once you've recuperated, you'll be able to better serve the factory."
"How can that be okay? The factory treats me so well. I can't be sorry to the factory." Su Yu firmly disagreed.
"Oh, you child. Why are you stubborn? This is my job arrangement for you. It's more important for you to get better!"
Su Yu wiped her tears. Very moved, she said, "In the end, it's new China and the new society that's good. It's only our new society factory that will take care of its workers this way. It's also only the new society that can cultivate a great leader who cares about the workers like you, Director Xu. If this was the old society, a worker like me would have no way to live. When I get better, I'll definitely repay our motherland. I want to be a brick and go where I'm needed."
