Chapter 44 - This cruel and unscrupulous lot, none of them reliable! (1)

It was dinner time, and the state-owned restaurants were open. However, there were shortages everywhere, including what the restaurants had to offer. Flour was a scarce commodity, much less meat.

Liu Mei's second sister-in-law didn't want to spend the effort and money to find and buy meat, but having interacted with Su Yu once, she knew that Su Yu wasn't easy to deal with. Now that Su Yu had a handle on Old Lady Liu, if she didn't satisfy her, who knows what Su Yu would do next?

If her mother-in-law went to jail, how could she face others in the future?

In a distracted state, Liu Mei's second sister-in-law spent a lot of effort. In the end, she went to see a distantly related female cousin that worked at a state-restaurant. It was only then that she was able to buy a bowl of cabbage and pork dumplings. While the food was still hot, she ran to the hospital with it.

As soon as she entered the room, everyone could smell the food. They stared at the bowl.

Su Yu was leaning on the head of the bed. She glanced at the bowl of dumplings. There were ten dumplings, and they were all in good order.

She surreptitiously gulped. My god, it felt like forever since she had eaten something good. In the past, she would have regarded these dumplings on the same level as fast food and wouldn't be interested in eating them. She recalled the luxurious food she had eaten in the past. And now, it wasn't even easy for her to eat a bowl of dumplings. She sighed.

Holding the bowl, she ate the dumplings in big bites and with great relish.

There was a round of growling stomachs and swallowing.

The Liu family was so envious. What lovely, big, white dumplings. The pork inside must be very delicious. When was the last time they had eaten dumplings? Last year? And now, the first bowl of dumplings they bought this year was for a member of the Su family. They could only keep their unhappiness to themselves.

As Su Yu ate, she said, "As it turns out, dumplings tasted so good. No wonder Liu Mei likes to go out and eat dumplings by herself. She holds the wages of two people and spends it all on herself. I can't imagine how well she must eat."

The Liu family felt even worse. Liu Mei ate well on her own, but she came back to her maiden home to complain and disturb their peace. If it wasn't for Liu Mei, Old Lady Liu wouldn't have gone through all that trouble and offended Su Yu.

Although they were unhappy, they knew this wasn't the time to voice blame. The most important thing was to solve the immediate problem. No matter what, Old Lady Liu couldn't go to jail. That would be bad for all of them.

Liu Dayong rudely said, "Su, hurry up, finish eating and tell us what you want. We haven't eaten yet!"

Su Yu suddenly coughed. She patted her chest. "Aiyo, you scared me to death. I've been frightened several times today. I feel so dizzy. Stop talking. When you talk, I feel as if I'm going to faint."

Liu Dayong: "..."

Liu Mei's oldest sister-in-law hurriedly said, "Take your time to eat. We'll wait. We'll discuss today's matter once you're done eating."

Satisfied, Su Yu continued eating. She felt as if it had been forever since she ate fresh dumplings. After gobbling several down to fill her empty stomach, she slowly chewed the last two to savor them.

It was only ten dumplings, but she actually took almost half an hour to finish eating.

On the side, the Liu family had been unable to hold on a long time ago. Leaning against the wall, they looked at her as if they had nothing left to live for.

Su Yu finally put down the bowl.

The Liu family immediately brightened up. They stared at her.

While wiping her mouth, Su Yu said, "We're all one family. I don't want to make the matter worse."

The Liu family sighed in relief.

Just as Liu Mei's oldest sister-in-law wanted to say a few words to curry favor with Su Yu, Su Yu's next words stopped her.
