Chapter 73 - In the future, she would treat Yan Xiaofang as a good friend (2)

Since October 1st was the National Day of the People's Republic of China, she got that day off. On the last day of September, Su Yu went to collect her wages after work. She collected three people's wages. In addition to her 35 yuan, there was Su Dazhi's 40 yuan and Su Xiaozhi's 18 yuan as a temporary worker. She got almost 100 yuan.

The other people who had also come here to collect their wages were so envious when they saw her thick stack of money and tickets. They could only envy her for raising two good brothers. However, they quickly thought of something else.

Su Yu was no longer an older unmarried woman that was squeezed dry by her family. She was now the head of the family and in charge of the family's money. With money, her worth was naturally different from before. Plus, Su Yu had more or less shown her talent.

Thus, many married women in the factory started having thoughts about matchmaking and indirectly inquired whether Su Yu was dating anyone.

Su Yu didn't have the time to pay attention to this. After collecting the wages, she took Su Xiaozhi to the provincial capital's charcoal stove factory to get the charcoal stove.

Chen Qiuxiang had gotten there before them and was waiting in the trees. Seeing Su Yu, she whistled like this was a covert operation.

"Class monitor, although this charcoal stove is old, my brother fixed it. It can be used for a long time. There's also some coal inside already.  If you want more coal, you'll have to apply for a coal purchasing certificate," Chen Qiuxiang whispered.

Su Yu said with a smile. "I'm sure there's no problem if it's handled by you. I brought you review materials. Look at them when you have time. I summarized the important points. It's never wrong to read more."

Su Yu handed her notebook to Chen Qiuxiang, "You go first. Talk to you later at school."

Chen Qiuxiang held the notebook and nodded. She didn't ask about the fabric. Su Yu had told her that the charcoal stove and fabric couldn't be swapped at the same time. That way, if they were caught, they could say it was a gift instead of an exchange.

After Chen Qiuxiang left the trees, Su Yu and Su Xiaozhi waited for ten minutes before exiting.

Su Xiaozhi excitedly held the charcoal stove. "Sis, are we going to take apart the brick stove at the entrance of our home then?"

"Yeah, it's time. It takes up too much space. I'm going to tear down the wall at the entrance, push it out a bit, and have your brother put a bed there. We'll partition off that area to make a small room."

The brick stove at the entrance took up a few square meters. Plus, there was cinder and firewood stacked next to it, which took up even more space. Once it was dismantled, a small bed could be put in there and then enclosed. They would be separated from Su Dazhi and Liu Mei, and she wouldn't have to worry about being embarrassed from overhearing their noises. As for whether the couple would feel cramped, that wasn't within her consideration.  She had worked so hard to give them a private space. They wouldn't dare to ask for more.

When they got home, it was already dark.

The other families in the compound had already started cooking, but not the Su family.

Su Yu had told Su Lin at noon to wait until she came home to cook.

Su Lin didn't dare to disobey Su Yu. She recently discovered that her sister's attitude towards Liu Mei was getting better. This was entirely because of Liu Mei's good performance at home. Su Lin more or less felt threatened that she would get crushed by Liu Mei again and become the lowest ranked person in the family. Thus, she now unquestioningly obeyed Su Yu.

Anyways, she didn't believe that her sister would value an obedient sister-in-law over an obedient sister.

Seeing Su Yu and Su Xiaozhi coming home, Su Lin happily ran over. "Sis, Sis, why are you guys back so late? You told me to not cook, and I didn't. Sister-in-law keeps shouting that she's hungry, and I didn't make anything for her. How can she eat before you?"

Su Yu pretended to not understand Su Lin's instigation. She pointed behind herself at Su Xiaozhi. "Our family is going to use a charcoal stove now."

Su Lin's eyes lit up. People that cooked were especially amicable with their cooking tools.

"Where did it come from?"

"We bought it of course!" Su Xiaozhi firmly said. Sis had said they couldn't let others know that someone had given this to her. It would be bad if they attracted others' jealousy and hatred.

Su Yu turned around and said, "Starting a fire and cooking three meals a day is hard work. The smell of burning wood is strong too. It'll be much more convenient to cook with a charcoal stove."

Su Lin was about to fall to pieces from being so moved. Sis finally understood how hard it was for her to cook. It would be a lot easier to cook with a charcoal stove. Sis treated her so well.
