Jacob thought about first taking a bath and then confirming the completion of his quest. But then his curiosity won over. He wanted to know what kind of reward his daily quest could offer to strengthen him.
“I confirm,” he said with anticipation.
Ting!
[The following rewards are available.]
[You are receiving a first time bonus]
Reward 1. Full recovery of the current physical condition
Reward 2. Three additional Stat points
Reward 3. One random box
[Would you like to collect them all?]
‘So many rewards?’ Jacob thought. But as his eyes glanced past the ‘first time bonus’, he understood. He was curious about his first reward. Will it just recover his injured and tired body, or was there more to it? His second reward seemed simple to understand while he was unsure what he could get from the random box.
‘One way to find out. Yes, I want to collect them all,’ he thought.
He began feeling warm all over. It was not the same scorching sun in the desert but it was the pleasant morning sunshine. The warmth seemed to seep into his body, relaxing him from the inside. His fatigued muscles began to recover, while his weak body seemed to double in strength.
“W-what is this?” Jacob spoke while feeling faint anticipation. He moved around but didn’t feel the weakness that had stayed with him for the past 8 years. It was almost as if he no longer…
“I-is it gone?” Jacob stuttered. His face lit with in disbelief while a teardrop fell from his eye. ‘My mana poisoned body! It’s gone!’
He didn’t know any other way to explain this feeling of strength. Of course, he was not stupid enough to ask the doctors to test him. If they confirmed his thoughts, how was he supposed to explain the reason for his change?
‘I got a system that recovered my health?’ Jacob shook his head at his imagination. He was very sure the next thing awaiting him would be imprisonment and becoming a lab rat.
Jacob was convinced by his system. ‘This mana poisoning that was rumored to need to help of an A Rank Hunter was solved in seconds?’ He smiled like a baby.
Even if his system didn’t help him anymore, Jacob was satisfied. It was because he could now get stronger like any other person. Of course, he wanted more.
He thought of his Stats and his Stat Window opened up. This thought intuitively came to him as he thought of his second reward.

The stats he saw were similar to the online games he played. Jacob was curious about the effect of using his stats. Strength, Stamina and Agility seemed to be simple to understand. But he was unsure about Intelligence and Perception.
‘Are those useful for mana users?’ He wondered. But he didn’t have any related skill and was currently taking the path of a melee player. So he decided to invest in melee stats. He thought of adding one point to strength.
His muscles warmed up, and he felt slightly stronger. There was no way to test how stronger he became, but Jacob had a hypothesis.
‘If 10 is the max stats for someone my age, then I just became 10% stronger. This way, I can just keep doing these daily tasks and get stronger every day!’ Jacob grinned.

This system fulfilled everything he expected in a gold finger. Others would train hard to improve their skills and risk their lives in dungeons. But he could simply complete daily quests and get stronger!
‘What a wonderful life! And what about this unknown skill?’ he wondered but received no response from his system.
He wondered where the two skills Tenacity and Dash came from. They looked familiar.
“Ah, yesterday,” he nodded, then went to check his notification history. “Bingo!” He found the notification that he didn’t pay attention to yesterday. It came in after about 3 hours of running away from the scorpions in the scorching heat.
[‘Skill: Dash Lv. 1’ has been learned.]
[‘Skill: Tenacity Lv. 1’ has been learned.]
Jacob thought about knowing more about Tenacity, and a blue box popped up.
[Skill: Tenacity Lv. 1]
Type: Passive
Cost: None
You possess untiring tenacity. When your stamina drops below 10%, this skill will automatically activate. It will reduce all damage received by 50%.
‘Did I get this because I ran like a madman yesterday and didn’t give up?’ Jacob wondered. He then looked at Dash.
[Skill: Dash Lv. 1]
Type: Active
Cost to Activate: 5 MP
Cost to Maintain: 1 MP
Cooldown: 1 minute
The constant running fortified your legs. When this skill is activated, your movement speed will increase by 10%.
His eyes lit up at the ways he could use these newly gained skills. But there was one news that delighted him.
‘I can learn skills on my own!’ he grinned. This meant that if he repeated certain actions, and met some conditions, he could get new skills. This opened up a whole new world of possibilities for him.
‘The skills hunters use come from their awakening. Only items known as Rune Stones can give additional skills. But they rarely drop from A Rank and higher monsters.’
He remembered how these skills sold for millions to billions of dollars. There was an S Rank hunter last year who emptied his entire savings. It was to buy a healing skill capable of reverting even the most injured people to their healthy state.
Jacob’s eyes shone with glee. He looked at his third reward. An image of a bronze box appeared in front of him with the familiar blue background and blue border. There was a single button with ‘open’ under the box. He clicked it and it slowly opened. His heart raced with anticipation like a kid opening his Christmas present.
After the box opened up, it vanished and in its place he found a sword. He checked its description.
[Item: Bronze Sword Lv. 1]
Strength: +10
Durability: 100/100
A common sword that enhances strength. It is suitable for a newly awakened hunter.
After he read the description, the system screen changed into an inventory bag. There were blue squares arranged in rows and columns and in the first blue square lay his sword.
“Inventory!” Jacob laughed. He tried to swipe up to see if he had limited inventory slots or it was the unthinkable infinite inventory. But nothing happened. ‘Perhaps I have to first fill all slots on this page before I find the answer.’
Jacob intended to hold his sword and it vanished from his inventory. Before he could panic about losing his sword, a small portal opened in front of him and from it came his sword. Jacob rushed to catch it but cut his thumb.
“Ouch!” he winced but paid attention to his sword. It looked archaic and weighed about 1 kilogram or 2.2 pounds. He tried to wave it and it felt perfect in his hand.
‘But how can I retrieve it like this in front of others?’ Jacob thought. He didn’t want anyone else to know he had an inventory. That would be even more dangerous than people finding out about his healed mana poisoned body. After all, having an inventory could directly benefit others.
So Jacob began experimenting. He tried keeping his sword in his inventory and summoning it outside in different ways. Soon, he found a solution and grinned like a mad man. This day seemed to be the happiest day of his life. He was sure of it.
“What else is remaining?” Jacob murmured and went through his notification logs again. That seemed to be the only place to find everything related to his system. “But there are just too many notifications about my daily tasks!” Jacob complained. “Can’t you make the navigation easier?”
It appeared that his system had heard those words. His blue notification screen vanished and reappeared a few seconds later. Jacob immediately noticed the difference. His notifications were now grouped in tags. He saw ‘Daily Quest’, ‘Quest’, ‘Loot’, ‘Achievements’, ‘Quest Rewards’ and a few more.
He hurriedly selected Quest Rewards and found what he was looking for.
“System! You’re the best!” Jacob praised but received no response. “No matter. Let’s open up the rewards for the Penalty Quest. I’m glad its not there just to punish me and I can still get rewards from it!”
He opened up the unread notice.
[Rewards for completing the Penalty Quest is now available.]
[Would you like to accept the rewards?] (Y/N)
‘I accept!’
