As it turns out, there was a lot more to military logistics than simply ordering an army to start moving toward their destination. There were supply lines, resources to manage, and soldiers to keep happy.
Of course, I wasn’t involved in any of this.
I mean, it’s not like I was excluded from it at the very start, but the discussion that ensued when everyone discovered that I had absolutely no knowledge of managing an army was rather amusing.
“You WHAT!?” King Eurace’s voice boomed through the air like thunder, practically causing the entire room to shake.
In fact, a few of the more delicate objects inside had actually shook, which had caused King Borea to frantically rush toward them.
Normally, he wasn’t the type of person who cared about worldly possessions, but we had this discussion inside his trophy room and he was rather particular about his spoils of war.
Why the hell we even decided to do it inside a room with all his prized belongings, I didn’t know. Afterward, Lucrezia had told me that it was because he wanted to show off a little to a fellow king, but it was still a pretty dumb idea in hindsight considering both he and King Eurace were massive muscle-bound freaks and the size of the room wasn’t exactly built to accomodate two of those.
In response to King Eurace’s exclamation, I had merely shrugged.
He clearly wasn’t happy with my reply—or lack thereof—and started grilling me about my education immediately. Apparently, something like military logistics was common knowledge even for kids in the eastern tribes.
I cast a quick glance toward Lucrezia and Aurelia who were in the room, and both of them nodded.
“That’s right, Ryuuko. Do humans really not learn this kind of stuff?” Aurelia asked, genuinely curious.
To be completely honest, I had absolutely no idea whether or not humans learned about military tactics or whatnot.
I seem to recall that there was some sort of similar course offered at the Manaquiver Academy, but that was technically an elven academy.
However, I was certain that military tactics was not something covered back in my shitty high school on Earth, so I shook my head.
“Nope. Not at all.”
Everyone in the room let out an exasperated sigh. Well, everyone except for Lucrezia, that is.
Her large crimson eyes were practically glowing as she beamed at me excitedly. In fact, it was the first time I’d seen her so enthusiastic about anything ever since we saved Aurelia and returned to the Zaltsel clan that I was genuinely surprised.
“Uh, what’s up, Lucrezia?”
“Then, since you don’t know anything about this sort of thing, I can teach you all about it, right?”
I blinked, not entirely expecting that response. Ever since I’d successfully convinced the chieftains to go along with my plan that was pretty much made of hopes and dreams, Lucrezia had been feeling slightly down since she didn’t really have anything to do that could help me out.
Most of the administrative work had been taken over by her father—which was totally fair since he was the actual leader of the clan—and I’d already adjusted to living in the Zaltsel clan’s territory.

There wasn’t even domestic or menial work for her to take care of thanks to Antenora’s expert contributions as a maid, and since Priya was a diplomat-in-training for her own tribe, I usually ended up having her accompany me whenever I traveled outside of the clan’s territory instead.
As a result, Lucrezia was pretty much left out of most of the action. Originally, I’d partially done it intentionally so that she could spend more time with her sister instead of worrying about potentially going to war. The two had only been reunited a little over two months prior, after all.
Eventually, I guess I just kind of got used to it and now, it really should’ve been no surprise that she jumped at the first opportunity to give me a hand.
I grinned. “I’ll be in your care then, Lucrezia.”
And thanks to her, I had successfully escaped from King Eurace’s rant that he was planning on lambasting me with, had Lucrezia not offered to teach me the finer points of military arts.
Even now, she was still helping me out when it came to this sort of thing, but regardless of how much I was learning, I still found it a lot more comforting to hang back and let the chieftains take care of this stuff instead.
I mean, they’ve been doing this for centuries, so I was more than certain that it was the better choice to let them manage the army instead. Besides, the army was really just a plan B.
Well, no. It was more than that. It was a very big plan B because plan A was pretty much assumed to fail.
I felt Lucrezia tap me on the shoulder now. It’d been around five minutes since I started staring into space.
“Zoning out already?” Lucrezia flashed a smile at me. I’d gotten used to it already, but I still found it entrancingly beautiful.
Even so, I thought now was a better time than any to ask the question that I’d been holding back since we mobilized the eastern tribes’ forces yesterday.
“Sorry ‘bout that, Lucrezia. Something’s just been nagging me for the past day or so.”
“Hm?”
I cleared my throat, trying to drive out the butterflies in my stomach. Seriously, I needed to get rid of this habit eventually.
Normally, I either dropped these types of questions completely out of the blue without any consideration for the other person or waited until there was a massive enough build-up to ask them.
Neither option was appealing to me, but I guess my shitty social skills were here to stay for just a bit longer.
“You and Antenora... Did something happen?”
Lucrezia blinked once, and then she collapsed into my arms as tears flowed freely from her eyes.
Oh. Shit.
