In the middle of the succubus homeland, in the central square, a little girl was standing before a large crowd of succubi.

“The first step we need to do is to inform our sisters of what has happened. They will become our informants. Then we will use them to root out the demon's spies, as well as the spies of other factions. The future of the succubi will be determined by the succubi's information network.” Kira announced this with grandeur. “We will deploy 120 sisters to accomplish this task, I estimate it will take about 6 months.”

The succubi were very fired up by this idea, they had been betrayed. It was time to become truly solitary creatures for the first time. Kira had already gone into a spiel over succubus history, which was quite boring. As a race, they had very little drive.

“We will then contact each of the 3 factions, as a neutral faction, and sell information to all three of them. We will also start a second branch of operatives, to sell weapons to our enemies.” Kira explained patiently. “Then we will begin instigating our enemies, by attacking them from the inside posing as other factions and pushing them to attack each other constantly. This will give the succubi time to produce real weapons, and then can we crush our weakened enemies whenever we please!”

This idea was met with very vibrant applause, from the gathered succubi.

“If our enemies are at each other's throats, they won't have time to find our home. We are in a race against time. The next step that must be accomplished at the same time, we must thoroughly infiltrate the beastmen's port, as well as the elve's port.” Kira explained. “The more information we have on where they are going, the better we can protect ourselves. The better we can also sabotage their operations.”

The gathered succubi immediately began determining who was going and who was staying. Kira interrupted them though as she wasn't finished.

“In the 6 months that we are informing our sisters of our plight, and our future. I plan to thoroughly take this island under my control.” Kira proclaimed proudly. “The succubi home will become our base, and a true stronghold!”

This proclamation was met with the fieriest cheers yet.

Kira stood proudly, as she puffed up her flat chest in pride. Behind her, a very pale, and gaunt boy stood. He had many spade-shaped bruises covering his face. He was angrily muttering to himself.

“They wouldn't listen, to a goddamn word I said!” Rex muttered. “She is just repeating what I said, word for word!”

Rex looked at the succubi chatting back in forth quickly as they assigned roles. He reached up and patted his swollen cheeks.

“They just scolded Kira for not controlling her man properly!” Rex muttered angrily. “Then they all started whipping me in her place! I have bruises everywhere!”

Kira couldn't read, so he couldn't prepare a speech for her. He had to try it himself, the result wasn't worth mentioning.

“In the future, I need to teach her to read.” Rex looked at the little girl in fear. “I can't be in the same room as her anymore.”

She had no idea what a wife was, and had begun listening to stories from the other succubi. She watched him cook bread carefully and assumed yeast was just any kind of mold.

“She put some of the moldy bread from when they cleaned out the mold rooms in a batch. She decided to pick the most colorful one!” Rex mumbled as he went even paler, his eyes trembling. “She nearly killed me, with the food poisoning she gave me.”

It had been 3 days since the succubi showed up, and Rex was ill for 2 days of it. This lead the succubi to believe he was some really weak creature. This made it even harder for him to get anything more than laughter out of them before they angrily whipped him until he left in shame. Kira got angry, saying they just didn't understand his passion, and that is how he got here. She puffed her little cheeks and walked before them. Then began going over my entire speech. , and now she was eating up the attention she was getting.

“I'm seriously jealous of a little girl!?” Rex was shocked at this discovery.

This body was not his, for example, the emotional responses. The overbearing confidence, the jealousy, and arrogance. These were traits he had never possessed before, and he had always been an introvert.

“Yet, now, I can't shut up.” Rex mumbled to himself.

Right now, seeing the little girl surrounded by a cheering crowd, and he was left out. It made him feel jealous. This was something he had never experienced before. It began to make him question just what happened to him.

“If I had time to think about it, that would be great.” Rex didn't though.

The best plan Rex could come up with was to create another cold war since a direct fight was impossible. The elves, the demons, and the beastmen were millions. The succubi were about 1,600 in total. They, maybe, had a child, between all of them, every decade. It was a pitiful birth rate.

Rex had never played a grand strategy game before, but he had heard of them, and now he was handed the worst army.

He planned to keep about 50 succubi here, they would be enough to control the island. All he wanted them to do, was help him manage the island. As long as he could get ships to the island, he could fill it with slaves. Escaping was pointless, after all, his position wouldn't improve if he left. Being stuck in this volcano had given him plenty of time to think about his position in this new world.

Kira's thighs aren't so bad? I just need to avoid, everything above it!

These people did not follow common customs in war. The common people were dragged into the conflict, as they were usually sold as slaves by the victors. They could barely produce steel because talented blacksmiths were rare. There were also lots of other races that weren't big enough to form a faction, the succubi were technically one of those.

“I need people smarter than the succubi.” Rex whispered to himself, afraid he'd be overheard.

“Rex, I told them everything you did.” Kira was happily running over to him. “When I get back from the exchange, are we gonna start building our new home?”

“Yes, we can start our new home.” Rex said simply.

“Good, If I had to poop, I wouldn't want to do it in a closet either.” She said understandingly.

Rex strongly resisted the urge, to just face-palm. The little girl was obsessed, with trying to understand things she just didn't do.

“Why don't you head down to the exchange? Do you remember everything I told you?” Rex asked.

“I do. I will make the changes, and begin training the new sisters who arrived.” She said and nodded to him.

“Alright, I will solve the food problems, for your sisters.” Rex said, as he reached forward and patted her shoulder.

Her little horns were sharp, and she tended to move her head. He didn't want to have to use his precious antibiotics already.

“I don't want to eat more mold...” Rex whispered.

“Did you say something?” She said.

“I need to make some molds.” Rex said simply. “I was just reminding myself.”

“Alright, I will get going then.” Kira said as she flew off.

Rex waved, as he watched her go with the other succubi, leaving him alone. At least this time, it was by choice.

-

The main reason they were selling weapons, was that they were out of silver now. Rex had used the stamp he made previously, to make another plate. It had a small hole in the bottom that he pressed a magic stone into. The fit was good, so he removed the stone. Enchanting was all about the production process, and this was what he was learning.

He walked over to a tub filled with clay. Kira had made the clay tub for him, and It was 5 gallons, in a rectangular shape. The inside had been waxed, and the clay wouldn't stick to it. Rex cleared the center out of the tub, placed the plate into it. He pulled the last of the silver wire and laid it into the engraving.

Most of his failures came from the engraving failing to take. The silver would bubble out and ruin it, he would end up with holes in his engraving. The trick he found, was to use clay and let it thoroughly cool, before removing it. It created an oxygen barrier and stopped the metal from bubbling.

“I need to find borax.” Rex muttered.

Borax was the king of fluxes and formed naturally. It could be found anywhere with seasonal lakes, as a white crystal. It was so abundant on earth, no one even thought to make it. It was a borate that could make boric acid, if you used hydrochloric acid on the borate. It was commonly used in detergents, but it had another great property, which was that it created an oxygen barrier when boiled.

He then pressed the clay around the tub, using it as a mold, he left the plate in the middle so the clay would hold it. The tub would be broken and this new pot would have the plate built into the bottom. This plate would directly contact the ground, so that the enchantment would activate. Then it would provide energy for the succubi when filled with water. He discovered that the volume of water affected the conversion speed. It was like dripping salt into the water body.

“The succubi wouldn't let me remove the plate from the bottom of the well.” Fortunately, it wouldn't rust as he had chromium to add. This is how you make stainless steel to resist corrosion.

He had to hand it to the succubi ore pile, it had lots of things that were brought in. Rex had trained Kira rigorously, he wouldn't allow her to be like the mamas. Today the prisoners would be getting a surprise, Kira would be training 20 of the new succubi to replace her. She would then act as a manager.

“I need someone who will listen to me! No one else will help me!” Rex yelled out.

He was alone anyway, why did he care. He didn't need to act as sane anymore.

Now that he finished, the tub was ready to go in the kiln. It would be glazed by Kira when she finished work. He had already done all of the baking for the day in the morning.

He had gotten some incredible news, a days flight away, was an island that had natural sulfuric acid. More than likely it was a dilute solution, filled with impurities. This would help speed him through production. Chemical engineering was something he minored in, it was necessary to manufacture paint and other chemicals. Since the succubi couldn't use magic, he would compensate.

“I think I'd rather have white phosphorous than a fireball anyway.” Rex concluded.

Tomorrow, he would be getting much busier. He would be going around the entire southern part of the island and flagging down everything that could be used. Then everything that couldn't be used would be destroyed. Kira had yet to fail him, as long as it did not require food. He was going to completely change the way the exchange worked.

“I can't count on the prisoners for much of anything. I'd rather have slaves at this point.” Rex decided.

His goal was to use the prisoners, to set the groundwork for slaves. The slaves would be a much better workforce. The succubi would then only need to manage them, which they could from the air. Rex had a plan to make these slaves ravenous to work for him.

“You give them a detailed and fair system, and let them work how they want. Then you fish the talents out of them and train them into new leaders. You begin tying them even closer to the system, and very quickly you get a city.” Rex stopped here. “This effect will be magnified when I train the first generation, leaving a teacher behind me every year.”

But this was down the road. Rex had been carefully thinking of what he would need to do.

Right now all of the steel weapons were being transported off the island. To Rex, they were just toys anyway.

“She made so god damn many of them...” Rex said in exasperation.

It was enough weapons to fill two small houses. She just kept making them, she even had matching series of weapons. Rex could confidently say no blacksmith could match his production. Unless they were plasma cutting the sword and taking it straight to the grind.

“She could make 12 swords a day...”Rex lamented the blacksmiths who would have to deal with them.

Rex direly needed the silver. He had entrusted it to Kira's mother Kera to handle. Kera often infiltrated drow society. They were the elves of the underground that countered the underground faction. This kept the underground of their areas safe. It was similar to the beastmen's movement, which served a similar function.

Kera would be in charge of turning the elves' silver into pointy sticks. This silver would be brought back for the succubi war effort. This was too simple though, for his good friends the elves. His teacher, or rather treacher, had put all kinds of information on elven kingdoms. He was quite proud of his race.

The current elves were ruled by 3 kings, and 4 queens. Each of these was a separate lord over an elven region and wasn't related to the other 6. 2 kings, and 1 queen shared a border with the beastmen. The map he'd seen was only a portion of it, but it didn't matter. Elves used 3 currencies, a copper, a silver, and a large silver.

“Kera, I have great hopes in you. I need to repay my teacher thoroughly.” Rex got pissed every time he thought of that plate, and what almost happened to him.

He had almost no physical energy and was forced to rest constantly. Part of the reason he stayed, was so he could recover, for another day.

-

The entire inside of the exchange was being rearranged. Wood, and tools, had been brought constantly. Even panes of glass were flown in. A roof was placed over the top of the building, with a hatch installed on the roof. A succubus was busy applying clay over the entire thing. The walls and the roof both got a coat as well. The bars that had stood constantly, were removed, and an iron door was placed there instead. It was the one from the mausoleum, Rex had repaired the lock and made a new key. The door currently stood wide open.

The prisoners watched this change cautiously, no one wanted to make the first move. None of them had ever seen so many succubi before, but it only reinforced the legends that thousands of succubi lived here. The hundred and fifty succubi quickly renovated the entire exchange building. A sign was placed above the door but no one could read it.

“Darkwinds Trading Company.” That is what Rex would have read in English.

The succubi had used demons before, which also had an alphabet. The issue was the way they did numbers. This had given Rex the brilliant idea to throw it all away, and introduce his own language. This wasn't, for purely selfish reasons at all.

One spindly elf was selected by his faction and pushed to the exchange with ore in hand. He was in there for over half an hour, before he walked out.

The elf had a loaf of bread, and over his shoulder, he had a shiny new pickaxe. This one had the pick on the front and a flat on the back. He also held two shiny black tokens.

“The little girl changed things up again. It's now like a shop, they have lots of things in there now. I got a new pick, the ones we have are crap, and need to be fixed every few hours.” The elf explained. “They also take more types of ore, and you can take these in place of it, they will treat it like ore, but it is lighter.”

He held up what looked like a poker chip. It had a 1 printed onto it. The core was metal and the outside was a glazed clay. It also had a hole punched through the 1, near the top of it. This meant it could be strung around the neck or wrist.

“The girl also said, the succubi will be paying to complete jobs for them. As long as prisoners carry some, the succubi will not feed on them!” The prisoner announced this last piece of news, which was the most important.

The prisoners instantly went into a clamor. The lake was the only source of freshwater, so eventually, they had to leave the cave. So many people had died lately, a proper count hadn't been done on how many remained. The little girl was much stricter on ore, which upset a lot of the prisoners who didn't like to work as much. But all of the prisoners had stashes of ore.

A dwarf who had ore in a bag already rushed from the commons, and into the exchange. The rest of the prisoners just waited. He was in the exchange for longer than the elf, almost double the time before he came out.

He also had a pick, a shiny felling ax, and several pieces of bread in a paper bag. His eyes were fixed on the pickaxe head. He was inspecting it carefully before he exclaimed.

“This is steel!” He said shocked.

Steel was a fluke or hammered out by the best of blacksmiths. It was a rare commodity, to be passed onto your children. Inside the exchange, they had them in a wooden rack. They also had lots of empty shelves. It showed they planned to sell much more. He was also told they wouldn't feed on people with coins, and that they would offer paid work soon. This ax was something else offered, it showed they were going to offer more types of work. The prisoner had bought it to defend himself though.

This was something new, they had never done this before. Half the time, he didn't even give them iron. Any of the dwarves had, a naturally good sense of sight, and could see the differences in ore up close. This change upset almost all of the miners, but what could they do? The bread was so much better, so it was worth it. This had offset their anger, but now the ore was worth more in volume.

This trend, of prisoners turning up with large piles of ore, repeated, over and over again. The amount of ore pouring into the exchange was staggering. It was easily more than it made in a year or even a decade. The news the succubi would not feed on you if you had currency, caused people to pour all the iron they had hoarded into the exchange. Rex made Kira, all the bread he could in the morning for this reason.

He knew once this news spread, they would drown in ore, and be trapped all day in the exchange. They only had a few week's worth of flour left, but he knew that Kera would be bringing a shipment soon. Once the weapons were sold.

-

“There is no way those miners don't have stashes of ore, for a rainy day. I bet they planned to retire using it. I doubt they even care if the succubi will accept the coins later, but you poor saps have greedily drunk the poisoned wine.” Rex was currently mixing bleach and acetone; he placed this mixture in cold water, walking away, as he continued. ”The moment you accepted the currency you moved closer to civilization. Wait till I fill the store, and you see just what you are missing.”

Normally the hardest part of starting a currency was trust. They trusted that having it meant the succubi would leave them alone. Little did they know, the succubi would soon no longer need to feed on prisoners. And now that they have accepted it, thus cementing its value, and granting it trust. It would be better if they start stealing from each other, as that would further raise its value.

“Then when the slaves get here, we will switch to a paper currency, it'll be brilliant!” Rex said laughing. “I'll collect all that ore again. When the currency changes and they have to experience that old fear once more. I even had Kira convince some of the succubi, to stalk around like they are hunting in their free time!”

As far as Rex was concerned he saved all of the prisoner's lives, and they needed to be worth more than their burlap in exchange. Human rights only applied to humans, and there was no such thing, as a Geneva convention.

“I need to prepare the bag of dog shit I will be leaving on the elves porch.” Rex muttered to himself.

He walked over to a bucket of black goo. This was the oil the succubi used. It had been causing him a headache. It looked like petroleum, but its properties were off

“I have to distill it to find out.” Rex had no idea what could be mixed into it.

Petroleum is a mixture of different fuels, and the way to refine fuel, is to distill the petroleum. They heat this and boil the oil. The tall distillation tower catches that gas and separates it based on weight. This was something Rex was working on. He was designing a small-scale distillation tower. Out of all of the fuels produced by petroleum refinement, Paraffin is what he was most interested in.

“I hate not having candles!” While bees were on the island, there weren't enough of them.

Paraffin oil was colorless, he was planning on producing it into the wax. He would have tar as a byproduct, as well as fuel. This small distiller was made of glass, but he wanted to make one out of steel. He didn't need a city-sized refiner, as his use of these fuels would be much different.

The issue was the paraffin oil, which was currently trapped in asphalt, and lubricating oil. The color was also all wrong, meaning he had something else in there he couldn't identify.

“I need to separate these, and that will take time.” Rex concluded as he placed his fluids downs.

Rex stood up and walked over to the mixture he made earlier. It was bleach and acetone. Rex was making chloroform. Chloroform had many uses as a solvent, but a bad reputation.

TV likes to make people think chloroform is capable of instantly making someone pass out. In truth chloroform is very poisonous and releases a lot of fumes, what happens is you cause someone to pass out by denying them oxygen. You can do this with almost any chemical, why waste chloroform. The reason he walked away from the reaction, is that it is exothermic, and releases a lot of gasses.

“That adds yet another solvent.” Rex muttered.

Rex was constantly adding to his chemical storage. The new house they were making, was so they could turn Kira's current house into a shed. It was way too small for one of them now, let alone both. It got nicer, now that Kira's ax was the only weapon in the house, but it was still filled with monster statues.

The new home would have 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room. Rex planned to expand Kira's original house to double its size and make it his laboratory. Some of the reactions would need very specific environments to be safe.

The other issue he ran into was due to enchanting.

“I know what the finished product looks like, but I am having issues with the pieces.” Rex muttered.

Rex had all the mathematical formulas required to design a house, but the house kept falling apart due to mistakes. This had shown him that he couldn't trust what the elf left behind, as the plate the elf designed to protect himself, did fail. His system had veered so far from the elf's system, that the parts the elf used to make enchantments didn't work for Rex.

The immune system is an example of something similar to an enchantment. The symbols were the parts, that acted to modify mana. These modifications changed the properties of the mana so that when you brought everything together, it would form the correct spell.

“I need to devise a way, to read a mana's frequency.” Rex said calmly.

He had converted everything to fall into a spectrum, as long as a spell's frequency could be determined, he could reverse engineer the parts. The issue with experimenting, when he didn't know the result, was how dangerous it was. It was like a gacha game, where anything could come out. That old elf had talked of his many accidents while experimenting.

“I am convinced he gave himself a Darwin's award, his wife left him after an accident.” Rex said this with finality.

“What's Darwin's award?” A little girl's voice asked him.

He was so used to this little girl coming out of nowhere. Sometimes if he was working, she would follow him for hours, without him knowing.

“Darwin was an elf who was very foolish. He was experimenting with random enchantments and electrocuted himself one day. Normally, he would have been spared his reproduction ability. But he was so fond of rings he had several on that finger. The table in front of him was made of metal.” Rex was straight-faced up to here. “Normally you would experience the pain, and realize you made a mistake. This elf thought he found some secret power, to make his tool shoot lightning at his table.”

Rex looked lost here as if he didn't really know how to describe what he was feeling.

“This elf, was convinced it could be a trump card, so he practiced regularly.” Rex stopped here. “Eventually, his tool stopped working...”

“Why didn't he stop if it hurt?” She had no idea what a tool was but assumed it must be something on the elf.

“That is why we will call it a Darwin's award, he was truly dedicated to proving that there is always a better idiot.” Rex explained to the little girl. “I think we should pass this tradition on, when we see our enemies in the future acting truly foolish, we can send them one.”

“Okay.” Kira just agreed.

“Now let's start building our new house.” Rex said as he walked over to the plot

-

Kira's house was already extremely lonely on the edge. Now she was moving even further and would have the equivalent of a succubus mansion. All the clay was gathered the last two days by foreman Kira, as she leads her work crew. The two of them made full use of the succubi while they were here. Convincing Kira was so much easier now, it felt like she had matured.

Right now Rex was finishing His lab on the first floor. It had several support pillars holding up a wood frame. Above his lab would be turned into a patio, and above the living room would be a second workshop for Kira. Off the patio above his lab, would be stairs to head into a backyard for them where all their new equipment would be.

Rex had just finished his lab, he had to set spaces and make holes for drainage and a gas hood. He had to have them installed in his work office as well. Working with chemicals was just too common in his field.

“I finished.” Kira called out to him.

They had done the living room and kitchen area, together. Then he split up to do his lab, and she did the bedrooms. Rex happily walked into his bedroom and stopped.

Why is it so big?

The bed was massive and was the first thing he noticed. The other main reason he wanted to work with oil, was for the plastics that could be made, as well as foam. He wanted a proper memory foam mattress.

Looking over, he saw a support pillar in the middle of the room. He also saw Kira standing with a look of confusion by the second door.

“Kira, wasn't there supposed to be a wall here?” Rex asked a little frustrated.

“Mom made me go over the floor plan with her when she left. She made me promise her, I would never build a wall here.” She looked at him confused, as if she couldn't understand why.

“KERA!!!” Rex roared at the ceiling.
