Elven City Tristyll, A small elven home

A young elven girl was sitting on her mother's lap. The mother was explaining the different symbols in the spellbook, and showing her daughter how to read them. The house they were in was only 3 bedrooms, this was the choice of the little elf's father. He wanted his daughter to have a modest upbringing, to keep her humble. The house and furniture were all wood, and fairly basic. They had instead focused on filling it with memories, and making it a cozy home for a little girl.

“Mom, when is dad coming back?” Welch asked with excitement on her young face, she was only 5 years old.

The older elf had the same features as her daughter. Tan with brown hair and green eye were the common traits of the wood elves. She kept her hair long and freely hanging, and she wore a simple green dress.

“Your father will be back later tonight, he sent a message that he was held up by something. Why don't we keep reading, little leaf?” The older elf said and began stroking her daughter's hair.

Welch looked at the spellbook, but the magic runes were kind of fuzzy. Focusing on these blurry letters made her head hurt, but her mother didn't believe her. She said that no elf she ever talked to had ever mentioned something like this. Welch couldn't get her mother to believe her, so she had to continue pretending she could understand the letters.

Welch's father was a guard captain, and he had attendants from his grandmother. Her father only used these attendants at work though, he wanted his daughter to be able to learn the value of doing her own work. Welch's Father had been swarmed by maids and attendants, and he was given a full complement of slaves. This led the elf to become a prodigal son, and he kept this behavior for years.

Then he started a fight with a young elf named Ivangor...

He learned the value of scraping his sorry ass off of a floor, as he and his attendants were thrashed. Ivangor didn't spare any of the slaves, killing them all with his bare hands. The excitement that Ivangor had when he was killing the slaves left a trauma in her father's head. He realized he had that same expression when he was spending money. After that incident, he decided to completely reform.

50 years later, he met Welch's mother, and the two were later married. Welch's father didn't want to marry another woman, so he stayed with just his one wife. Polygamy and polyandry were both fairly normal in elven society. Welch's grandmother had 3 husbands before they started passing away, now she lived alone in her massive estate.

The two elves were disturbed by the sound of a door opening in the front room.

“Dear, Little leaf! I am home!” A voice called out and began walking through the house.

A man with dark brown hair and green eyes entered the room. He had a smile on his face and was quite round for an elf. While he stopped spending money recklessly, he couldn't reduce his appetite for delicious food. He had a mustache and beard, and he kept his hair fairly short and maintained for a wood elf.

Welch hopped out of her mother's lap and jumped onto her dad's large stomach.

“Dad!” The little girl yelled happily.

The large elf had quite the dexterity as a guard captain. He scooped up the little girl and began dancing around with her in his arms, a goofy smile on his face. This was the one thing he was most proud of in his life.

“Little leaf! Daddy got a new job!” He told his daughter proudly.

Welch's mom had a shock when she heard this news.

“Where did you get hired?” She asked.

“I get to be a personal guard of Queen Alysandri during the winter hunting trip.” Her father's eyes lit up. “If I do well, I will be escorting her when we go to war against the beastmen. They have been raiding the farmlands of the slaves, and stealing food and medicine.”

Welch's father was a mage, and he was fairly accomplished. So was Welch's mother and grandmother, this put a lot of pressure on the little girl to be strong. Monster's often attacked from the forest the elves lived in, and high-tier monsters were very dangerous creatures. The elves establish a system of the monarchy to keep the strongest elves in the position of Kings and Queens to defend against any threats.

Welch's grandmother was one of these queens, and the lord of the city they resided in. Wyndyllynn had long been considered the ideal of a wood elf and was once the idol of many young girls. This had been a hundred years ago, and she was living on the borrowed time of the elves' divine tree. Many of the older elves who ruled the society were in a similar position. It was only recently that 5 new elves had slowly risen to replace the old Kings and Queens.

Alysandri was the oldest of the 5 and had come into power right before Ivangor. Out of the 5 new kings, Dryfys was considered the most despicable of the bunch. He was the weakest and many stories circulated about his birth. While he had achieved the rank quite young, he had only barely gotten it. He was also vastly overshadowed by Ivangor who had it much younger.

Rumor had it that his mother lived alone with her brother, and within a few months became pregnant. Later a baby called Dryfys was born. He was short-tempered, he liked booze and women, and he was very greedy. These were the traits that everyone knew of Dryfys, this changed when he became older and his mother committed suicide. He fully focused on running his business and increasing his number of slaves.

Around this time Alysandri became the first new elven queen, deposing the former king. She was so lazy she didn't even bother changing the name of her city, she went right into her tower and began to research. Alysandri was a powerful spell caster and was called the second coming of Wyndyllynn. The only time she appeared was to put on shows for the people or to fight in the elves' wars. It was said that she was very interested in enchanting and restoring the lost legacy of the high elves.

This resulted in her constant need for expensive resources and items.

After Alysandri had come, Ivangor, then Illisayd, Ashanda, and finally Dryfys. This new generation caused a headache for the remaining king and queen. By rights, the next High King should be Ivangor, but he was too much of a psychopath. None of the 5 showed any admirable traits, and this lead Wyndy to push Welch and her son to get stronger. The elves direly needed someone calmer to replace her, to try to balance out the new personalities.

“That's great dear!”Welch's mother exclaimed.

“Good job, Dad!” Welch exclaimed not sure what was so exciting,

Welch's father smiled and basked in his pride. This was a good day for the family.

-

1 year later...

Welch looked at the spellbook in front of her as she tried to piece through the fuzz in her vision. It was easier to see it from far away, but then it was too far to read it. Right now she was behind the small house and trying to use magic.

The courtyard she was in was simple and plain and resembled just a flattened lot of land. The ground was just rough dirt and was covered in the marks left behind by her mother's training. It was directly past their small grass backyard.

Magic had several components, the first was an image, the second was casting using vocal and somatic gestures, and last you had to have enough mana. Welch's mana was fairly pitiful as she had never been able to properly cast a spell. Since her mana wasn't in use, she wasn't able to properly make it grow. This made the little girl feel like she was failing her family...

Right now she was trying to use a water spell that was the most basic, but no matter how hard she tried she wasn't getting it right. The spell kept failing to form, so she wasn't able to put any mana into it. This left her just standing around muttering while she made hand signs.

Failing again, the little girl could only squint at her book. This was the same one her mother had used to learn magic, and her father had also approved it. This meant it couldn't be a problem with the material in the book. As a 6-year-old, she was expected to begin learning magic.

Taking a deep breath, she began to slowly form the various sounds needed, then began crafting the hand signs. This should have started the process then she just needed to pour mana in, but none of this worked. She had nowhere to put her mana, which meant the spell wasn't forming.

This had been ongoing for months now, even her mother had tried to help her. Closing the spellbook with a sigh, the little elf had a discouraging look.

Am I broken?

These thoughts had filled her head endlessly, as she failed to cast spells over and over again. It didn't matter what she tried, none of it had worked out. This had made her start to hate the spellbook in front of her. This had also made casting practice feel more like torture to the little girl.

“Welch, are you out here, honey?” Her mother called out to her.

Welch was excited to have an excuse to end practice early. She slammed the book closed and ran to her mother with it held at her chest.

Her mother smiled and knelt, and began brushing her hair.

“Any luck, little leaf?” Her mother asked as she brushed Welch's messy hair with her fingers.

Welch's hair would get messy from her pulling it, this was a bad habit she had developed.

“No, Mom.” Welch said with disappointment.

Welch's mother smiled at the little girl, as she continued to fix her hair.

“Your father asked me to visit him on the battlefield suddenly, I just got the news this morning. He is escorting Queen Alysandri on the battlefield and she wants to meet me. I am not too sure as to why.” Welch's mother explained with some confusion on her face. “I was going to take you to your grandmother while I was away. It shouldn't be longer than a few weeks at most.”

Welch's mother knew that Welch didn't like magic, and Welch was quickly growing disdain for it. She hoped that Wyndy might be able to help Welch find out what was going wrong with her casting. She was the most accomplished female caster that she knew.

Welch didn't feel happy about this at all, but she also didn't want to burden her mother. This left the girl with a conflicted feeling. Her grandmother was obsessed with magic, and she had been incredible in her youth. It was the main reason her father and her were trained so heavily, and at such a young age.

“Don't worry Little leaf, I promise I will hurry back.” She said as she finished fixing her daughter's hair.

Welch lowered her head, as she reigned in her emotions.

“Alright Mom, I will get packed.” Welch told her with a sad tone.

Her mother hugged her, as she began to talk to her.

“I know you aren't having a good time learning magic, you don't have to keep trying if you don't want to.” Her mother said. “Your mother and father will be happy as long as you are. Let's go little leaf, I will help you get packed.”

Welch's mother let her go, and the two walked into the house holding hands. This then led to them packing their bags for their trips.

-

1 month later...

Elven City Tristyll, Wyndyllynn's home

Welch was in the courtyard in Wyndy's home. She was still unable to cast any spells of any kind. She told Wyndy she wasn't able to read it, and still failed when it was read aloud for her. Welch was becoming increasingly discouraged from practicing magic. She had even stopped trying to cast when her grandmother wasn't around.

Right now the little elf had tossed her spellbook to the side, and she was just weaving some grass she had picked into a small doll figure. Wyndy wanted her training several hours a day, even if she got nowhere. This had led the little elf to have lots of free time, and she had to constantly invent new ways to entertain herself.

“Welch, You need to practice magic! This is the proper way to be an elf.” She mimicked her grandmother's voice as the doll began to make scolding gestures as she moved it with her fingers.

She had learned weaving through sheer trial and error. It was something she had picked up being bored for the last month. She was stuck in the giant house surrounded by attendants and she quickly felt suffocated by it. The courtyard was large and empty and surrounded by a firm barrier. Wyndy had it made just for her, and no one was allowed to disturb her “training” as they called it.

Looking over near the entrance of the courtyard, she could see a sand dial slowly draining. This was to help time her training sessions, but it had just turned into a timer for how long she was stuck out here. Looking back to her doll, she continued to play with it while she tried to waste time. She was hoping that any day now her mother would return, she had decided to give up on magic.

Many elves had been able to get by on just their archery after all. Welch was thinking of trying her hand with a bow like so many of her brethren. Some elves were born with the inability to cast, but they usually didn't have much mana, to begin with. This had made Welch's situation strange because her mana level seemed normal, but she wasn't able to use it properly.

Her father was attempting to work his way up, and eventually replace his mother. This was hard though, as he wasn't nearly as gifted as the young Wyndyllynn had been. This meant he would take much longer than she did to reach an acceptable level of power. Welch wanted to help her family in any way she could, but she didn't think magic was the answer for her.

“Welch! Bad news!” An attendant came running into her courtyard surprising her and causing her to hide her doll.

“What is it?” She asked in shock.

The attendant had to quickly get his breath as he fought to say the words. This was because Wyndy had fainted when she heard the news and was currently wailing in her room unable to function.

“Your mother and father... They have fallen in the war, the skaarm appeared and flooded the battlefield... Alysandri was the only survivor.” The attendant forced the words out with his tears.

Welch felt like the air had been kicked out of her.

What?!

The little girl's legs buckled as she fell to the ground. All she could feel was a shock, as she tried to process what she had just heard.

“Ivangor was dispatched to get revenge... but that won't bring the young master back.” The attendant began to sob as he fell to the ground.

This attendant and his brother had served the young master his entire life. They had seen his transformation first hand, and they had been proud of him. They were only spared because he hadn't brought them with him to the battlefield.

Welch meanwhile was shaking her head as she began to sob brokenly, burying her face into the ground.

Her cries could be heard echoing through the entire courtyard. Right now she had never felt so lost or in so much pain. She had no idea what to do, she was all alone now. She could tell from the attendant's reaction that it was very real news she had gotten. It was just her and her grandmother now...

This was a moment that affected her and left a deep trauma. This nightmare was able to come to an end when she met a big white bear with a giant heart for children, and a human child who was able to see what the world could be. She also met a horned girl who would become her rival.

-

Meanwhile...

A dark room in a magical tower.

An elf was bound to a wall by various chains, he had a mad expression on his face as he stared at the veiled woman in front of him. The elven woman was tall and slender but her face was covered in a thick white veil, she had claimed it was due to an alchemical accident when he met her, but now he wasn't so sure.

“YOU KILLED MY WIFE!” He screamed as he thrashed against his chains. “I will kill you no matter what I have to do!”

The woman chuckled as she watched him continue to thrash against his chains.

“I did, it was all to get you, but your bloodline is too impure.” The woman said as she sighed in pity. “I can only hope to breed you in hopes of getting an elf with a purer bloodline.”

The man was overweight and had a mustache and beard that were well maintained, he had been brought here secretly a few days ago after this monster called the skaarm to attack using some kind of liquid she kept in a tube. After she had broken it the skaarm had arrived within an hour to attack the joint armies of elves and beastmen. He had been abducted by the bitch in front of him.

“If I remember correctly, you should have a daughter, but she is in Wyndyllynn's hands. I will need to see if she possesses the proper bloodline. I will need to figure out a way to get rid of the old hag, or I could just wait.” The woman muttered to herself, as she rubbed her temples through the veil.

She had acted so primly and proper in public, but now he was finally seeing her true personality.

“You are a monster! I hope you rot in hell!” The man screamed at her.

Right now he wanted nothing more than to strangle her with his own hands.

The woman looked at the man who interrupted her thoughts and snapped her fingers. The door was pushed open and a female elven maid walked into the room. She reached up and began to fiddle with the straps on her solid black dress. Soon cloth could be heard sliding, as her dress fell to the floor.

“Alright, let's get started with the breeding project. Number 1, you are first, we have 19 more to get through today.” The woman ordered the maid.
