Succubus Homeland, Research facility
Bob had taken the blueprints for the first ship, it was only a 2-floor vessel that was fairly small. The bottom floor would have the crew quarters, a second one would be installed on the second floor with the storage. A mess hall would also be on the second floor, the succubi would live in the bottom of the ship. Two large engines would drive the ship using a single large propeller, it would also be steered by a balanced rudder.
With a crew of 20 men and 10 succubi, it would be a powerhouse on the waters. The cargo hold would be used to store their plunder and their bombs. It would also be possible to keep refugees in the hold if necessary, it also had a few jail cells. The main cannon would be a 12-pounder, it would only have a single one, and the front of the boat would have a 50 caliber machine gun. The whole point of the ship was to be as fast as possible, even when it was fully loaded.
The dock was a truly ugly structure that was formed from the remains of the cruise ship and the original floating dock that Bob had made. All of the wreckage had piled up, then it was filled with dirt and concrete. This made a fairly decent-sized flat landing at the bottom of the ramp that became the docks. The original steel rollers that were installed in the ramp, were now being used to move large sheets of steel.
Rex was currently researching a large crystal that was made by the elves, it was used to control their ships. Wax had been used on the giant glass ball that weighed several hundred pounds, it was used to denote different sections.
“It uses logic gates!” Rex announced as he compiled the last symbol through his equation.
So many concepts of enchanting were finally starting to make sense to him, things he had wanted to know for a long time.
“What's a logic gate?” Kira asked him, as she looked at what he was decoding.
“They are a way to take multiple inputs and create a single output. They use them as a way to activate various arms of the magical circuit based on how the user injects their mana.” Rex told her. “That is the only part that matters to us.”
Rex quickly pointed to another section of the enchantment she had circled out in wax using the pen.
“This part here, this can limit magical output.” Rex said as he pointed the section out.
“How do they power it all?” Kira asked him from the side, a confused look on her face.
“The material itself! They mix the magic stone into the glass when they are melting it down, this makes it a single substance.” Rex told her as he went into contemplation. “I had often wondered why you would use a magical metal as a base for enchanting, but now it all makes sense, you can draw some of the excess mana out of it. You are treating it as a battery to pull the mana that isn't used in the structure back out of it.”
Rex had often wondered about this exact thing, this was because he put an absurd amount of mana into his creations compared to what the elves did. Kira was able to look at this large glass ball without any problems, yet they had to use a thick crystal for the forge to protect the succubus' eyes while they were observing the metal being made. They also could not stare at it when it was being poured out of a crucible.
“We lost some mana when we made the cold iron, I bet it is because we exceeded what the metal was able to hold. I bet there is a limit to what it can store in it, I wouldn't be surprised if it is different for each magical metal.” Rex concluded.
“But this is glass, isn't it?” Kira asked him confused.
“No, it is infused with calcium, and calcium happens to be a metal. Mana likes denser structures, getting it into liquids is hard enough, and getting it into a gas is even harder.” Rex said as he went into speculation.
Silver is said to be the best magical conductor, but can I believe that information?
Rex had realized that the information he got from the elves was full of holes. He felt like he was seeing the early humans discovering rock and saying that nothing harder could ever exist.
“What are you thinking about?” Kira asked him.
“I just never thought I would need to deal with binary again.” Rex said.
“What is binary?” Kira asked.
Rex stopped as he looked at the complex circuit that made up the enchantment.
“Binary is like an entire way of seeing the world, you see it as 0's and 1's. 0 means it is not present, and 1 means it is. Most living creatures do not think this way, but we did sometimes get some truly incredible people when it came to figuring out how to use it.” Rex told her, but Kira already looked confused.
Rex realized he was going to need to give her a better example. Walking over, he pulled Kira over to where he would want to show her from. She blushed slightly over the arm he placed over her shoulders, but Rex was more excited about the giant ball.
“So we start here, and this is the first logic gate. When mana is supplied, it is taking two reads from it. The first one checks if the user has mana, the second is if it is an elven frequency. Both this circuit AND this circuit need to be active to start the system. This first gate is called an And gate for that very reason.” Rex said as he explained the first place. “Both this and this need to be active at the same time to get the output to start the rest of the system.”
Rex began following the enchantment as he began looking for another gate.
“This is an Or gate, either input can be active to get an output from it.” Rex said as he pointed to a steering enchantment.
Rex began to slowly point out every logic gate to the succubus, he also carefully explained how they worked. Rex was currently doing this all on auto-pilot, his thoughts were currently elsewhere, they were chasing the image of a man.
He was someone who was ahead of everyone at the time when it came to math and science, he was born in 1912. He rode a bike with a faulty chain, instead of replacing it, he created an equation so he would know exactly when it would fall off so that he could reach down and fix it right as it did. He had one really good friend growing up, and some people questioned if they had a relationship, but he died of tuberculosis when the man was only 17.
The man was named Alan Turing, he was an Englishman. During world war 2 he came up with an algorithmic set that led to the creation of the Turing machine, the basis for all modern computing. When comparing the level of a program's strength, Turing is considered the top level. His death was attributed to being gay during the '40s in England, it was illegal at the time. They made him take a type of hormone therapy that made a man incapable of having sex. It had terrible side effects on a person's health and mentality, he was later found dead next to a half-eaten apple and a to-do list.
His life was originally hidden by the government, but his work became more and more recognized after he died. The entire scientific community slowly boiled in anger, even people like Stephen Hawkins got involved. It wasn't until 2013 that he was officially pardoned by the Queen of England. He was only 42 when he died, and some people think he may have touched on the principles of quantum computing. That is because a quantum computer did everything the Turing machine did but more efficiently.
“Why are you crying?” Kira asked.
“I just thought of someone, and how lonely he must have felt. While we have different ideologies, sometimes you can understand people in different ways.” Rex said as he wiped his tears away. “When I first came here, I felt like I was surrounded by monsters. Did you know I planned to escape the island once?”
Rex smiled sadly at this memory of his first major failure, it was his first brush with death. His kiss with Kira when they were younger, even now they just settled with holding each other. Rex felt like this was a lot of where Kira's jealousy came from, she always felt like the lesser of other women.
“I don't think that anymore, nor have I thought of leaving since the last few years have taught me a lot about seeing past differences.” Rex told her. “Now, I just want to understand this world that I find myself in, it is similar to how I was in my last world.”
Rex felt Kira wrap her arm around him, the two of them stood and stared at the large enchanted ball without saying anything.
“Rex, I might have made a mistake...” Kira told him with a guilty tone.
“What happened?” Rex asked her in concern.

Elven capital, outside the entrance to the sewers
A large group of elves wearing metal armors and holding crossbows and spears were gathered around their leader, His sister was the former elven queen Ashanda. Now he served as a guard captain in the capital.
“You are sure she was dragged in here?” The man asked the elven woman.
“That's right! Why aren't you hurrying to save her?!” The elven women called out angrily. “She was pulled in there by a vampire!”
The elven woman was Dora, and right now she was angry that the guards weren't hurrying up. This morning they had hidden a lockbox in the vampire's lair that had the locations of all of the demon's spies. Dora was worried the vampire would discover the lockbox and destroy its contents. They had done a lot of work to make it look like this was the leader of the vampire's spy network. They had filled it with all kinds of false information and reports, Dora even used this as an opportunity to accuse the elven women she didn't like of being succubi.
“Advance!” The elven guard captain called, as the men began to charge into an old abandoned mages tower without any windows.
Dora felt a deep satisfaction as she saw the elves quickly begin storming into the building.

A large keep built into the side of a mountain, A guest room
Allyn Corvollin was sitting in the corner of the room on the bed. His head was tucked between his knees, the moaning had stopped an hour ago. It had been a total of 4 days that he had to listen to them go at it in the other room.
The door to the room he shared with his wife opened, and a blonde-haired woman hobbled into the room. Her dress looked like it was just thrown on, and she wasn't able to close her legs properly. She was walking bow-legged, and they were both shaking. Behind her on the ground was a trail of thick white fluid that was dripping onto the ground from under her dress.
She looked around the room briefly before her tired expression was replaced with one filled with tender affection. Seeing this look made Allyn feel even more conflicted inside.

“How did it go, were you able to learn anything?” Allyn asked her, his face going through various expressions.
“Yes, honey!” She said with a proud expression, as she walked slowly towards him on her shaking legs. “He is very disappointed in you, he thinks you are the worst spymaster in the demon's entire history. You failed to notice every change that Dryfys has made, we have also had large numbers of casualties. The loss of even a single doppelganger is a serious problem, and you have lost several.”
She paused, as she got to her husband wrapping his pale, shaking body into her arms. She smiled in bliss as she ran her sticky fingers through his hair.
“He deeply laments throwing the succubi away like he did, especially now that they have all but disappeared. He is thinking of sending a representative from the wraiths to talk to the succubi.” She said as she rubbed her face happily into his chest. “With the portal to hell opening again in 1 year, he can't leave this mountain. At that time the demons will become the most powerful faction on the mainland, and it will all be under your control!”
Allyn was disgusted, as his wife continued to wipe the remnants of her “battle” with the demon lord all over his clothes. This was a side effect of being turned into a vampire by him. She had retained her love and affection, but her mental facilities were severely weakened. She had lost her previous concept of common sense. She only acted in whatever way she thought would help her husband the most. She felt like she was being a double agent, pretending to spite her husband to get the demon lord's ear. She had helped him to convince the demon lord to throw away the docks and focus all of their forces here.
What happened to his wife was the main reason that making people into vampires was seen as a bad idea in Allyn's mind. It weakens the vampire, and the person who is turned will always lose a degree of their intelligence. If the vampire was not born through breeding then they were never as intelligent as the original.
Moving the bulk of their forces to the keep had paid off slightly when the portal the original demons used to get here started showing a crack for the first time in history. This meant the gateway the demons used would open once again, it was why he still had his position at the moment. Getting rid of the succubi had turned into a source of trouble for him though, especially with Dryfys in charge of the elves.
He thought that it would allow him to show off just how powerful the vampires were, but he found out that they were not very good spies. The undead races in general had issues when it came to acting as spies, that was because they let off a noticeable aura of death. That was why races like the Wraiths were forced to be used as a defensive force, they could be detected too easily. The problem the vampires had was that they required the most food out of the other races.
When a doppelganger consumed their victim they were able to gain a portion of the victim's memories. Allyn had thought that vampirism would yield similar results when he made this plan, but he was steadily realizing the problem. Just like his dear wife, his minions lost intelligence when they were turned. It was why he put all of his hopes on his natural-born children, but his son was a massive disappointment.
“7 days from now, he will be calling a meeting to decide if he is going to replace you with someone he feels is more competent, he is thinking of making one of the doppelgangers into his new spymaster.” She told him sadly. “I just don't think he realizes how brilliant you are, he will come to regret this, I am sure of it.”
She said this confidently, as she rubbed her stained hands through his hair. The news nearly caused him to faint.

Northside of the Succubus Homeland, Swamp training grounds
Greko was right, this was hell. Looking around he could see explosions raining all around him, as he ran full speed with his shotgun hanging on his back. He was screaming at the top of his lungs, as he sprinted as fast as he could. Next to him was a fox that was similarly covered in filth, a long rifle was hanging on her back with the stock folded.
Their training was mostly for all the succubi in the air, this was to get rid of all of the old explosives they had stockpiled. The plan for the foxes and mouse beastmen was to be fast, hit hard, and disappear. The two of them had to focus heavily on their noses as they ran, this was to avoid the traps that were set. Land mines were a new invention that the succubi had come up with. A stiff spring holding a hammer suspended over lead azide in an enclosure filled with C4.
Their training consisted of attacking areas that the succubi set up, then running away and avoiding mines while the succubi rained explosives on them. They were learning to hit and run, this was going to be the tactics they would utilize.
“Whooo!” The female fox yelled out in excitement, as a bomb barely missed her.
Dirt and mud were flying everywhere, Greko continued to scream in his shrill voice.

Succubus Homeland, Research facility
Rex had finally concluded after looking at all of the enchantments that made up the ship's control system. It was just like a form of programming, but you used frequencies of the mana to achieve the effects of spells. Without even having researched magic, he was beginning to realize it was deeply linked with enchanting. Rex was beginning to think they were the same, but you used gestures and sounds to change the magical frequencies.
The goal of spell casting was to get your mana to emit at a certain frequency to manifest a spell, it was identical to the process of what enchanting did. Rex was beginning to think that a smart enough caster might be able to inherently see this link. Kira was more fascinated by something else they had discovered though.
Using a piece of the metal rod he had made from the borax, she passed it through a ring that had an enchantment carved into it. The enchantment activated, as the metal passed through it, they had to be almost touching for it to work. The enchantment activated and drew the mana out of the metal shard, causing it to emit a deep chill that released fog from the metal.
Pulling the metal out of the ring, she dropped it in a bucket of water. Loud grinding noises emitted from the bucket, as the fog rose from its surface. The entire bucket of water had frozen into ice. This brought a smile to Kira's face, as she already saw a use for this. This effect was changing the mana that was stored inside the metal using an enchantment, this caused the mana to release in a spell-like way.
“I can add an enchantment into the end of the bullet's casings! Then I can replace the bullet with magical metals, This will make them act like spells when you shoot them!” She said excitedly.
Rex was originally thinking of using the magical metals to act as batteries, and testing how long they could emit mana. This had been a byproduct of that experiment. What he wanted to do was set the metal up to emit light as long as it had spare mana inside of it. Through a mistake he had converted the mana that was inside of the metal into a frequency for the light spell, then it started bleeding out the blinding light. Currently, they had it stored in a metal box, and Kira was experimenting with other elements.
“I want to try fire next, can I have some more of that metal?” She asked excitedly.
Rex passed her another piece of metal and watched her start carving a new metal band. Right now he had very mixed feelings after hearing Kira's admission. In retaliation for the vampire's attack on her husband, she sold out the locations of all of their spies, but she did it sneakily. She made it seem like a vampire was keeping tabs on all of the other spies, they even added notes to all of it.
That was because Kira was able to identify the vampire that attacked him through her mother, it was the daughter of the clan head. This had caused Kira to nearly explode in anger, and she had wanted to immediately declare war, but her mother had stopped her. She said that they weren't ready yet to fight the demons, Kera also didn't think that this was the will of the demon lord. She said it was best to wait and see, but she said it was a great idea to drag the vampires through some shit first.
The motto of the succubi had slowly transformed into “Take no shit from anybody!” Rex had become slightly worried when he heard about the vampire's position. That was because she had touched him when he was exposed to all of that acid, he had no idea what the results would be. The main reason for the creation of a shotgun was actually for the vampires. He didn't think they would be able to freely change forms if they had lead balls stuck inside their bodies.
“I'm ready!” Kira announced as her eyes lit up in excitement.
She took the strip of metal she had carved that was filled with silver epoxy, they used epoxy as an enchanting filler. She bent it into a ring and set it onto a small vice to hold it. Taking the piece of cold iron into a pair of pliers, she pushed it through the ring. However, nothing seemed to happen, causing the two to look at each other in confusion.
“Don't touch it, try tossing it onto the ice first.” Rex told her.
She nodded and set it onto the ice, but there was no change in the metal or the ice underneath it.
“What is the mana doing in it?” Rex asked her.
“It's leaking out like the others.” She said in confusion as she looked to him for an answer.
“That's bizarre, we will need to find the reason for it.” Rex said, as he reached down and picked up the small piece of metal.
Rolling it around in his palm it was certainly warm, but it wasn't hot like he expected.
“I think it is a property of the metal, I think it is releasing the heat before it has the time to absorb it. I don't know how else to describe it.” Rex sighed, as he wished he could see mana too.
It felt like it did when it came out of the smelter after 8 hours, it was only lukewarm then too.
“That is sad, I wanted it to burst into flames.” Kira grumbled.
“That would have been useful, it is pretty disappointing.” Rex also agreed.
The two were standing alone in the lab as they were surrounded by the various sheets of paper the two had penned. These were all notes they had collected from breaking down the controls on the cruise ship. The giant glass orb was too large to be able to comfortably work on it anywhere else. Before this, it had occupied some space on the upper floor of the exchange.
“I made some progress on blocking my body draining effect, but it still isn't perfect yet.” Kira told him shyly.
This had been a project that Kira had been working on for years now. She needed to regulate her bodies drain so that it wouldn't hurt him. She had realized that this essence was what the succubus body used to conceive new life. Rex was thinking this energy might be the foundation of the soul that humans had been trying to prove existed.
The most common theory came when a scientist sealed several dying people into a hermetically sealed chamber and watched them die inside of it. This produced a weight loss that could not be explained in the body, however it was very slight. The most it was ever recorded was at a few grams, and it wasn't an experiment that was allowed to be repeated in the modern world.
Kira planned to set it up to take just a small amount during intercourse, this would allow her body to conceive without hurting him as her partner. She had been testing it slowly using some of her sisters, but he wasn't able to help her with it. It required an understanding of the succubus body that he just didn't possess.
“That is good, that will be what changes the lives of the succubi.” Rex told her with pride.
The plate he created was nearly useless, and only served to pull the life force out of the mountain they resided on. It wasn't a permanent solution for the succubi, this was something Rex had been thinking of. What he wanted to try when he had more time was to see if life force could be extracted from monsters. If that was possible then it meant they could set up special farming facilities.
The biggest issue that the beastmen had that was stopping their society from being able to progress was food. Crop rotation was not used for fertility in the modern-day like many thought, it was used to stop diseases and insects. Fertilizer made it possible to not need to worry about fertility in the soil, you instead needed to change crops to break the disease cycle. This was something you did every 6 or 7 years in most cases, and you only had maybe 2 or 3 massive fields.
Rex wanted to create beastmen farmers out of the mousemen and the foxes, they would then have an unshakable place among the various beastmen clans. Farming and animal husbandry would allow them to have a society that was ahead of all of the other beastmen clans.
I wonder how their training is going?
