“Cassian.”

“I might harm you next time and you wouldn’t be able to survive! Please. Get away from me!”

“I’m fine, Cassian. Look, it doesn’t matter.”

Cassian felt stupid for  not understanding what Yernia was laughing about after she got hurt because of him.

“What’s wrong with you?”

He was scared of not knowing.

It was strange that Yernia, whom he thought would never come, had returned, smiling at him as usual.

She wasn’t supposed to do that, can she?

“I’m worried about you, Cassian.”

“Huh?”

“I heard that you were locked up because of me. I’m sorry that you weren’t allowed to meet anyone.”

“Why would you apologize? It’s only natural because I have hurt you badly.” Cassian said angrily without knowing why.

Was he just being silly or was he simply smart?

“No, you didn’t.”

“Are you stupid, Yernia? Is your brain not working that well? I hurt you and saw you bleed with my own eyes.”

“You were asleep because you got sick. I woke you up to give you some medicine, but you didn’t wake up.”

“That doesn’t change the fact that I hurt you. Let go! If you don’t want to die, please stay away from me.”

Cassian tried to pull his hand from Yernia’s clasp.

He wanted to be forceful but he couldn’t bring himself to do it.

Somehow, he choked up.

“You’re so mean, Cassian.”

“Hey!”

“I couldn’t sleep because I was worried about you. I visited your room to give you some medicine, but I failed. You were isolated in this room because of me.”

Why did she look upset?

Cassian was unfamiliar with faces of melancholy.

He deserved to be hated, but why was she worried about him?

Yernia wasn’t just worried.

She seemed upset.

Why?

Cassian wanted to ask her, but no words came out.

There was nothing he could do but wait and see what she’d do next.

Yernia moved closer to him.

“You have hurt me unconsciously with your power.” Yena whispered as if revealing a secret. “Do you want me to heal your illness?”

“What?”

“Don’t curse at me, Cassian. Please don’t tell me to go away.”  Yernia tried to negotiate just like what he told her the other day.

It all happened before Cassian could even answer.

His deep blue eyes widened and his pupils trembled at the incredible sight.

Cassian glanced at Yernia’s hand that held his, and then his gaze shifted to her face back and forth.

“You. Just now.  Are you a–”

He knew that this was guided by instinct.

The force flowing from her hand and transferring to his palm had spread rapidly through his body.

He felt refreshed at the strange sensation as if he was soaking underneath the ocean.

“I’m a guide now,” Yernia said proudly.

“Since when–

“I was a little sick for a few days after I got hurt. I’m glad that  I went through the guide box. My sister said it hurt a lot.”

Yernia had also recovered some of her past life memories there.

She transmigrated into the book she had read and retained her identity as a guide similar to the original novel.

Yet, possessing those past life memories didn’t change much.

“You don’t have to be alone anymore, Cassian.”

Yernia still had that simple mentality of an eight-year-old.

She was so scared when she got sick after getting hurt but got better after suffering.

Also, Yernia knew that Cassian had no intentions of hurting her.

He had simply used his energy without realizing it.

There was no way he would look like he had lost everything as soon as he saw her injuries.

“Why? Cassian’s lips trembled when he asked.

Yernia’s existence in his life was a huge question mark.

Why did she stick to him even if she was the lazy kind?

Why couldn’t she hate him when I had hurt her so badly?

He couldn’t figure it out at all.

Yena answered briefly in a matter-of-fact tone. “We’re friends.”

“…….”

Friends.

He never thought them necessary.

Yernia said she didn’t hate him for the sake of their friendship.

This useless girl was annoying.

“—and I like you, Cassian.”

“…….”

He couldn’t carry on his thoughts and his words.

Cassian just accepted Yernia’s presence as she slowly permeated into his life.

Sadly, he realized too late that he had a crush on her when he was thirteen.

That was when his seven years of unrequited love began.

Yes.

It was longer than he thought.

“What do you think about these glasses?”

Still, Cassian had no idea how to handle one-sided love.

“I don’t like it. Bring me something cool.”

“What?”

“Because I have to look handsome.”

As a twenty-year-old adult,  Cassian had made a lot of effort to make her fall in love with him due to what Yernia had said before.

‘Love. I will have to meet a lot of men to find my perfect match. You’ll find someone too, wouldn’t you?’ Yernia’s sweet voice echoed in his mind.

“There’s something I want to do when I become an adult. It’s–”

“Then these glasses—-”

“I think it’s good enough. Do you think Yernia would like it?”

“Oh! You have to look handsome in Yernia’s eyes, you mean. But why?”

Cassian wore and took the glasses out repeatedly.

“What’s cool about this?”

He noticed his black hair had unusually soft curls as he looked into the mirror.

Cassian frowned, deciding not to ruin his excellent appearance with these dorky round glasses.
