As she looked around, Yernia realized other people weren’t that welcoming.

But because she was the Marquis’ wife, a man felt obliged to offer her his chair.

Yernia waved a hand in refusal but the man threw it toward her as if he didn’t mind.

He ended up sitting on the floor.

Yernia sat on a wooden chair after enough contemplation.

“You mentioned something about  Espers earlier. Are you a guide?”

“Everyone here is a guide.”

The Knight answered her question.

She counted five guides all in all.

Five Espers must have gathered here.

The situation seemed more severe than she thought.

“What are you all doing?”

The guides were peeling potatoes in front of the bonfire.

Yernia blew on her cold palms to warm them up as white mist scattered around.

“Let’s have dinner. Guides usually have to make the dinner here.”

“Funny. Do they want us to cook for them to calm them down? Crazy guys!”

“Espers and all the other soldiers are on the front line. We must save our strength because sometimes, they get hurt.” A man explained gently to Yernia.

A brown-haired woman argued with the stranger’s words. “Oh, then I’ll do it, too. Give me the potatoes.”

Yernia, a guide who had nothing to do, reached out her hand to help.

Everyone looked at her strangely.

“Aren’t you the Marquis’ wife?”

Everyone knew that Yernia was Cassian’s wife because he had introduced her.

In addition, articles about the two getting married have already spread throughout the world.

The Duke and Marquis Lecardo were not only members of the Royal Family but they were also powerful Espers.

Duke Lecardo was the Royal Militia’s commander-in-chief.

No one there was stupid to make the Marquis’ wife peel a potato.

” I’m bored.”

No one hadn’t said no, but they seemed very reluctant.

Even the Knight stopped Yernia from doing it.

“Why don’t you go in, My Lady? It’s cold.”

“I’m scared because Cassian isn’t here with me.”

It was true.

Yernia would rather be with them.

After looking around, Yernia grabbed an unpeeled potato from the basket but she had no knife.

Since no one was unable to do anything about it, the knight held out a dagger in Yernia’s hand.

“Thank you.”

The knight backed away without a word.

Yernia could feel them observing her when she started peeling the potato.

The potato’s skin stretched as long as an apple’s skin.

When she saw someone else peeling it, the skin was already cut in the middle.

Were they looking at her because she was so good at it?

She thought of that but she dismissed it immediately when she recalled Cassian’s reaction while she was peeling an apple in the past.

“…….”

Awkward silence ensued after she finished peeling the potato.

Most of its flesh was peeled off with the skin and it looked horrible.

All of them stared at it for a minute.

She was so embarrassed that she couldn’t even put it in the barrel.

“I— I’ll eat this.”

She was about to throw the questionable potato at the bonfire, but the man gave her a skewer to use.

Yernia stuck the skewer at the middle of the potato.

It turned out that the man’s name was Habin and the brown-haired woman was Sinira.

“How long have you been here?” Yernia asked as she cooked her ugly skewered potato over the bonfire.

Harbin and Sinira said they were here even before Duke Lecardo came from the North.

They were already here ever since the Emperor noticed the monsters’ movement.

“It’s been a long time since we have been here. It’s cold out here, isn’t it?”

They all stared at Yernia’s potato as they continued peeling theirs.

Some of them smacked their lips as if they couldn’t wait to eat.

They can start eating if they want to.

Guides served Espers and other soldiers with their energies but that didn’t mean they were slaves.

However, food resources were not always enough on the battlefield.

Plus, it wasn’t even time to eat yet so everyone was eying her potato when it was baked into golden brown.

Unfortunately, she continued grilling the potato until they began turning black regardless of the people’s observation.

She happened to see a familiar face walking past her.

“Cassian, do you want some potatoes?”

Yernia glanced up and called after him.

Cassian came back a few steps and stared at her in disbelief.

“Why are you here?”

“Oh.  I just want to get some fresh air.” Yernia said.

Cassian glowered at the knight as if to scold him so he told him the truth.

“The lady said she was scared to be inside the barracks without you, My Lord.”

“…….”

It was strange how she wanted to deny that.

Yernia showed Cassian her potato, instead.

“Is this a rock or a potato?”

“…….”

“I don’t know if I can eat this burnt potato.”

“I cooked it.”

“What? You?”

“I peeled and baked it myself. If you don’t want to eat it, don’t. It’s not like I’m giving this to you because I like you.”

Yernia was upset.

In her eyes, her baked potato looked crispy and appetizing.
