Chapter 14 [The witch diligently goes to the guild.]
I woke up in the morning.
My face was buried in Tet’s chest who was sleeping in the same bed. I slowly looked up, and I could see the Tet’s smiling expression as she was sleeping.
“Fuhehe, Majo-sama, let me eat more, black soil~.”
“What kind of dream are you having?”
While I had a wry smile, I slowly slipped out of Tet’s breasts, combed her hair with my fingers, and separated slowly so she wouldn’t wake up.
“Well then, what plans should I make today?”
The reincarnated me and the golem Tet that had been only several months since birth (?).
To be honest, we had no common sense.
“For the time being, if I don’t collect all sorts of information, I’ll learn some culture, customs, or skills.”
Then, until when the town’s bell rang eight times, I gazed at the streets of the medieval age from the window.
“Munya munya~, Majo-sama, please prepare some red clay, some red clay sweets~”
“I really wonder what dream Tet is having. Hey, it’s about time to wake up.”
“Yes, Majo-sama! Tet is up! I got out of bed!”
Tet shot straight up when I called out, or rather, when I ordered her.
Thinking about the question of whether she was really asleep or not, but from the quickness of her response, this is probably a remaining order function from her former-golem days, and probably forcibly awakened from the chain of command.
Well, it’s fine as I have it easy and didn’t have to spend much time. (T/N: Didn’t waste time waking her up.)
“Well, let’s change and go get breakfast.”
“Yeesss. Food, food~.”
Tet smiled as she started to change happily, then we left our room and went to the dining hall.
“Good morning. Did you sleep well yesterday?”
After I requested from the inn’s daughter, the breakfast was immediately served.
The nutritional balance of the bread with thick slices of bacon, fresh salad, and soup looked good.
““Rub a dub dub, thank for the grub!””
Tet and I put our hands together, offered our prayers before we ate, and then started eating.
If you observed the other guests in the dining hall while eating breakfast, some start eating after they offer a prayer, some immediately after an informal prayer, and some start eating without praying.
(I wonder if there’s a church-like religion around here?)
As I ate while observing other guests, I noticed a certain thing.
(There are not many people that look like adventurers?)
The people eating breakfast in the dining hall right now are people that seem like merchants and residents from the neighborhood.
There are adventurer-like people here and there, but even so, it didn’t feel like they were going off to work, but their appearance was as if they have the day off from work.
When I peeked at the dining hall last night, I felt like there were quite a lot of adventurers.
“Hey, you have a moment?”
“Yes. What is it?”
When I finished breakfast and got up, I asked the inn’s daughter.
“It looks like there are fewer adventurers, but why’s that?”
“Ahh, that’s because the adventurers finish eating and leave around when the bell rings six times to go search for requests.”
“That so, they’re diligent.”
Lyle-san and them seem serious all the time, so I thought that the term ‘adventurers’ would vary depending on the person and not everyone was diligent, but it seems like I’m wrong.
“It seems like new requests are posted when the bell is rung six times, and there’s a contest over trying to get a relatively good request starting in the morning.”
“Is that how is it.”
“Onii-chan said that adventurers might die until they have a certain amount of ability and that the jobs pay little and it’s hard work.”
“Your older brother is the guild staff member that guided us, right?”
“Yes. My older brother left for the guild early today to prepare for the posting of request.”
“Must be tough on the adventurers and the guild staff. Thanks, that was some good info.”
Having said that, I noticed the inn’s daughter shift her attention as if expecting something.
“Yes. I’ll tell you if I have something good again.”
I put a large copper coin into the girl’s apron secretly.
To be honest, Japanese people aren’t used to tipping culture, but I thought that if there was some good information in the future, then…
“Well then, Tet. Let’s go to the guild.
“Yes, Majo-sama. So what are we doing today? Are we defeating another orc?”
Tet tilted her head to the side, but I shook my head.
“For the time being, I plan on looking through the guild’s materials and various things. Well, I’ll be investigating for roughly around a week.”
“Understood!”
Having said that, when we arrived at the guild, it was deserted, maybe due to the relatively good requests being picked out already by the adventurers.
I also went to go look at the requests at once, and looked at the G-rank ones, which happens to be our rank.
“Help in the town, harvesting herbs……”
I noted down the contents and rewards of the requests left down on the paper and pen that I created with creation magic.
Then, when I checked the requests above our rank, a few requests related to orcs were remaining.
“Securing orc meat and orc subjugation request huh?”
The rewards for the remaining request, in fact, were all relatively bad job requests.
We confirmed the requests on the display board, and saw the adventurers left in the guild who were slipping alcohol, but as expected, none of them came to pick a fight.
Well, I’m relieved there aren’t people who’d pick a fight with a 12 year old girl.
Then, I headed towards the reception counter, and began to talk to the receptionist that Lyle-san and them dealt with yesterday.
“Excuse me. Are there books and that sort of stuff in the guild?”
“Books, was it? If that’s the case, anyone can read them in the second floor’s reference room. However, you can’t take out the books, so please copy them personally.”
“Understood. Thank you very much.”
I headed towards the reference room on the second floor as I brought Tet along, and after listening to the usage warnings from the librarian who also worked as a clerk, I began to go there every day.
First day, for the time being, I’ll skim the books that capture my interest apart from the scriptures published by the church, but the meaning was difficult to understand, so reading was hard.
Tet lost interest immediately.
Second day, this time I created a [Speed Reading] and [Parallel Thought] skill orbs with my [Creation Magic], and began to read with no problems.
Within those books, there was one demon race that was related to creation that was very interesting.
There’s a theory that the origin of the vampire demon began with a certain magician using the dead body of his lover, and before he knew it, she had a slight strand of life left, and the magician and the person succeeded and vampires were born.
“Just like Tet……”
I wondered if that magician created a flesh golem using the dead body of his lover.
As a result, the golem’s core would be connected to the flesh, and took in large amounts of magic gems, a spirit would be taken in and evolve like Tet, and the vampire’s founder would be born.
Demons are defined as a race that possess a magic gem inside their body, so it could even be said that Tet is a golem demon.
Also, in Tet’s case, I replenished her missing mana, but as for vampires, as their name implies, it might be that they supplement their magic power by sucking blood. 1
And Tet is—-
“Terya—-.”
“Guwaaa!”
As expected, being confined in the reference room would make her lose interest, so I gave permission for her to freely move around the guild’s training area.
The result of that is, she immediately sparred with the other adventurers that came to practice, but different from her appearance, she continued to mow down adventurers one by one with her toughness and superhuman strength.
Well, unlike orcs, I ordered her so that she would go easy on them in order to not hurt them since they’re humans, so Tet began to crudely learn the skill of dealing with humans without hurting them.
“I wonder if this is a good sign.”
Thus, the second day of investigating was over.
When I went to meet Tet at the guild’s training area, there was Tet who’s breathing wasn’t disturbed at all and heaps of adventurers thrown down on the ground beside her.
They weren’t seriously injured, but they were bruised by being thrown down and being beat with the training-use wooden sword.
“Good work, also thanks for keeping Tet company. —-<<Area Heal>> <<Clean>>.”
They were people who were thrown and no one was injured, so I restored them with my sloppy recovery magic, and gave them cleaning magic to clean off the dirt and sweat on their way back.
Then, even after the third day, the people challenging Tet increased, I continued to give them recovery and cleaning magic on their way back as thanks like before on every day.
On the third day, it was books related to herbs and demons, on the fourth day, I found a skill table and took notes on my paper.
Then at night, I created skill orbs with [Creation Magic] from the information I obtained from the books in the room of the inn, and I used them to aim for strengthening myself.
Sixth day—-there weren’t magical textbooks, but I read books related to the mineral [Magic Crystal] that could save mana and be withdrawn at a crucial time and [Body Enhancement] which is a technique that applies mana. With this, I ran out of things I wanted to look up.
