Chapter 2: I’m Inside a Game?!

Wait, didn't my Status tab say that one of my occupations was NPC? Does that mean I'm inside a game? And I'm just a fucking NPC on top of that?!

 

Oh, come on! I should be the protagonist or something! At least fix my goddamn status and make me max level! God or whoever put me here, I want a refund! Do you hear me?!

I hear Nya's worried voice beside me and snap out of my daze. This girl has very little presence! I always forget she's there!

 

"It's nothing, Nya."

 

I finally get out of my bed and stand up. Nya immediately comes to my side and takes my hand.

 

"Hm? Nya? Why are you holding my hand?"

 

Nya looked confused for a moment, then realized she was holding my hand without even hesitating. Her face flushed and turned red as a tomato, and she quickly let go of my hand. "I-I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! I was just trying to lead you to a chair to fix your hair, Your Majesty! I'm really sorry if I offended you!"

 

Oh, so that's what she wanted to do, makes sense, I'm royalty after all. I should start getting used to these kinds of things if I don't want to look suspicious.

 

Nya started muttering 'What have I done! I'm so shameless!' while whimpering lightly.

 

"..."

 

For some reason seeing a cute girl with kitty features panic makes me feel at peace...It's so cute to see her all red with embarrassment while her ears and tail wag frantically. Is that what they call Gap Moe?

 

Ehem! I think I should calm her down first, and maybe give her a few words of encouragement.

 

I placed my hand under her head, and stroked her lightly, making her stop crying and look at me in surprise. "Don't worry about it, Nya. I was just surprised because you were really fast, but that also means you're very efficient, good job."

 

Holy crap! Her hair is soft and fluffy as hell! I could be petting her all day and I wouldn't get tired! I also want to touch these cat ears that are twitching non-stop, I really do!

Nya looked very surprised at my sudden caress. She was still as red as a tomato, but this time I could feel genuine happiness in her instead of shame. "T-This...! I-I don't deserve Her Majesty's praise-nya..."

Don't "hehe!" me with such a pure and genuine smile god dammit! My cuteness metric is going to explode!

 

I sat in the chair while controlling my breathing to calm myself, and Nya fixed my hair while humming happily.

 

After fixing my hair, Nya called more maids to help me take a bath and do some morning skin treatments. It was a little embarrassing to let them see me naked, but it wasn't as embarrassing as I had hoped it would be.

 

Speaking of other maids, the ones who came to help Nya were human, and they seemed genuinely surprised that I'd appointed Nya as my personal maid. Maybe the humans here have prejudices against Demi-Humans? If they do, I'll be the first to defend the Demi-Humans! Protect cuteness and Mofu-Mofu at all costs!

 

By the way, none of them seemed to find my behavior strange, it seems I'm acting very well! As expected of me, an aspiring actress! One thing bothered me though. I've seen the stats of all the maids that have appeared, and they're all above level 150! Are they really normal maids? Or is it really that easy to get past level 100?!

After they bathed me and had finished my morning beauty treatments, they left and left me alone with Nya again.

 

"Your Majesty, what outfit do you want to wear today to practice your Swordsmanship?" Nya asked me as she opened a door revealing my closet.

 

Goddess, the closet alone is bigger than my old apartment! And what's with this amount of clothes and dresses? I can dress an entire city and there will still be clothes left over!

 

"S-Sorry, Nya, but I won't be practicing Swordsmanship today," I said trying to hold back my drool as I looked at the amount of clothes. What? I'm a girl! And girls like clothes!

 

"Fueh? Not going to practice swordsmanship? What does Her Majesty wish to do then?"Nya asked confused.

 

Is it so weird that I don't want to go practice with the sword? Well, I guess so, since Artoria did it every day. Unfortunately, I'm not Artoria. I mean, I am, but I'm not. Urg, this is confusing!

 

"Today I will go to the library. There are matters I want to investigate. Choose a light and fresh yet elegant outfit for me."

 

Nya looked at me wide-eyed for a second, but quickly turned around and started picking out an outfit for me. What the hell was that? Did I say something wrong?

After Nya picked out clothes for me, I left my room and asked Nya to accompany me to the Royal Library. Nya didn't think twice and guided me with a smile. What a good girl! However, she is terrible at choosing clothes.

 

She wanted me to wear a dress, she almost begged me to, but I'm a woman who prefers using comfortable pants and a blouse. I'm not going to lie, I almost gave in when she offered me a dress with those cute round eyes, but I didn't fall for her temptation! I'm getting stronger with every passing second!

 

If only my level would go up because of that...

 

Anyway, I chose a white blouse with a loose collar, baggy leather pants, and big, comfortable leather boots. I wanted to go to the library like that, but Nya almost made a fuss by saying I was required to wear my Royal Robe at all times when going public. My Royal Robe is the same as the one Artoria Lancer wears, it's very pretty and elegant. It looks like a cape because it's not that long, it's completely white as snow and the part around my neck is made of the white fur of some animal I don't know.

 

Even though I wore casual clothes underneath my Royal Robe, I still looked elegant and dignified. The only problem is that the Royal Robe is making me feel very hot! Maybe there is magic similar to an air conditioner? Hm! It's worth investigating!

 

As Nya led me through the halls, which by the way are incredibly full of luxurious things like ornate vases, statues made of gold and silver, and huge paintings, which are probably also expensive, several knights and maids stopped to bow to me in respect. The maid's clothes were similar to Nya's, maybe I'll have a special outfit made for her since she's my personal maid. Speaking of uniforms, the knights' armor is really cool! It appears to be made of silver, and there were a lot of golden details that made the armor look like some kind of divine armor!

 

I really wanted to see the stats of one of the knights I passed, but to see their status I must look directly at them. I've already tested this theory on the maids who came to bathe me, and since I'm acting like a proud regent, I can't look down just to look at the knights. I must hold my head up with a proud, confident gaze. I can see the status of any of them afterward anyway, so I better not take any risks for now. I'm level 1 after all.

 

We walked for a few minutes until we stopped in front of a large carved wooden door, and when Nya opened the door, I almost let out a sigh of surprise and awe.

 

The Royal Library was... in one word, magical. It would look like a normal library if it weren't for the hundreds of shelves magically floating, and several books flew between the shelves like birds. There were also several beautiful dots of lights of different colors that flew all over the library. Oh, and I can't forget the huge statue of a Dragon and a Golden Lion in the middle of the Library.

 

"We have arrived, Your Majesty," Nya said beside me.

 

I nodded at her, and we entered the Library. The door closed behind us, and we fell into an awkward silence. It's nice that I'm in the Library, but how the hell am I going to find what I'm looking for among so many books floating around? Or rather how do I get a book if they're flying?! Wait, Nya! That's it!

 

I looked at Nya with a slight smile, and said, "Nya, do you already know how the Library works?"

 

"Hm? Oh! Yes, of course, Your Majesty! Everyone who works at the palace is allowed to use the Royal Library, so the Head Maid taught me while I was still in my training period. But that was only because I will have to clean the library in the future. Employees like me, who have been working here for such a short time, are still not allowed inside the Library."

"Yes, Your Majesty, I do..." Nya replied sadly.

 

"So how about you pick books to read right now?"

 

She lifted her head in surprise with widened eyes. This girl is so easily surprised, but I like to see her surprised since she's cute!

 

"E-Eh? Right now?! Can I really...?"

 

I snorted. This girl is too shy for someone whose level is 195!

 

"If I'm saying that you can, then, of course, you can. I'll be quite busy with my own affairs, so do as you please."

 

Confirming that I gave her permission, Nya began to squirm in happiness with a shy smile; she then looked up to where the shelves with the books and the small points of light flew, and said, " I-In this case...I'd like books about the history of the Demi-Humans!"

 

The moment she said what she wanted, the Library out of nowhere started spinning around us, and I nearly fell over in surprise. What the fuck! Is this the Hogwarts Library or some shit?!

 

The Library turned four times, and the fifth time, it stopped. I don't know what the hell was all this, but we were no longer at the entrance to the library, but somewhere between several bookshelves, and in front of us was a wooden table with a comfortable-looking chair, a lamp, and several different books on the table.

 

Nya shook her tail excitedly and turned to me with a smile. "Thank you for giving me this opportunity, Your Majesty! I will never forget this favor!"

 

I was still a little taken aback by the Library's strangeness, so it took me a while to compose myself. I cleared my throat and gave Nya a slight smile. "Do not worry about it. You're my personal maid now, it's only natural that you have some privileges."

 

Nya was immediately moved and tears filled her eyes. Is that reason to cry? I have the impression that she is having some misunderstanding. She bowed to me, turned around walked rather clumsily to the table that was littered with books, and promptly opened the first book and began to read.

 

Well, whatever. I already have an idea of how this library works. It seems that the library works through voice commands. I hope I'm not wrong.

 

I looked up and said, "I want books about the history of this world. The more books, the better."

 

After I said that, the Library immediately began to spin again, and I almost fell, again! Cursed be whoever created this system! On the bright side though, I don't have to look around for the books I want since the library does it for me.

 

I never thought I'd say this, but...Books, here I come!
