It was something that Roelin could say, but it hadn’t been something that she should really say right now.
When Kergel saw her blurred expression, he immediately pulled Roelin into his arms.
“Don’t worry, Roelin.”
“But…”
“Are you still not aware of how strong your husband truly is? Even after experiencing it yourself at night?”
Kergel uttered a mischievous joke right in Roelin’s ear. Frustrated by him, Roelin lightly hit him on the chest.
“Kergel! The others will hear you!”
He had whispered in her ear, but Lucy and Silloa could have heard him as well since his voice was quite loud. Roelin rubbed her red cheeks with her hands before she once again saw his outfit and her expression became muddled.
She realized the situation that she had forgotten for a while due to his mischievous jokes. Maybe that was why Kergel told her that joke.
He wanted to ease her worries even for just a while.
Roelin curled her fingertips and raised the corners of her lips. Then, she looked up at him and opened her mouth.
“You need to be there, don’t you?”
“Yes, even just to minimize the damage.”
“……Are you leaving right now?”
It was such a useless question. It was like asking for the obvious.
A monster attack could happen again at any time. Therefore, he would have to go there as soon as possible in order to subjugate the group of monsters and eventually, save even just one more life.
That was why he would be going right away.
“Well…… I will be back within a fortnight at the latest.”
“A fortnight?”
Roelin asked with her eyes wide open. It would take quite a few days just to get to and from here straight to the Samalta Mountains. But she couldn’t believe that he would be back in merely 15 days.
Of course, she would obviously welcome him if he really did.
“Don’t be too hasty. I’ll be fine. Just don’t get hurt and come back safely.”
Roelin consoled him while she wondered if he was in a hurry. But Kergel simply grabbed her hand and repeatedly confirmed it with a determined gaze instead.
“No, I’ll definitely be back in a fortnight. That way…”
He could give her a big birthday party. Kergel grinned while swallowing the unfinished words right down his throat. Then, Roelin tilted her head with a questioning expression.
But he didn’t clear up her questions and just laughed in return. Then, he winked at Lucy.
It was a wink that meant to keep the secret about the birthday party right until the end.
When Lucy noticed it, she straightened her posture and lowered her head slightly to give a silent response. Silloa then also looked at Kergel and Lucy alternately before she belatedly noticed as she straight away covered her mouth with both hands.
“Well…… I’ll be going now.”
Kergel looked at them, then turned his eyes back and opened his mouth at Roelin. Roelin gazed at him with her worried eyes before she declared once again.
“Never get hurt, Kergel. No matter how strong you are, as long as you are just human, you will still bleed if you get hurt.”
Kergel asked her unconsciously while hesitating a bit.
“Yes, human. Aren’t you also another person?”
Roelin pouted her lips as she pretended to shake Kergel’s clothes off for no apparent reason. Then, Kergel smirked and grabbed her shoulder before he immediately lowered his head to kiss her.
Roelin’s eyes widened at the sudden touch of her lips.
“Yeah, I’m a human too.”
After taking his lips off, Kergel said with a smile. The thought of having to go to a gruesome site that might be a trace of an ancient Suin tribe made him feel heavy without even realizing it.
There seemed to be a high wall between himself and others, those descendants of the Wolves.
Moreover, he even thought that if Roelin were to discover that this was really done by the people who had been related to the ancient Suin tribe and the fact that he was not that much different from them, she might be afraid of him.
But… she told him what he really needed as if she had been reading his weak mind instead.
She said if he was truly a human.
As if it was all so natural, he became comforted by the words that included him in the category of just ‘humans’.
The word that this little woman had uttered cheered him up once again.
He hugged her again and spoke softly with his lips glued on the back of her neck.
“I’ll be back, Roelin.”
“Have a safe trip.”
Roelin wrapped her arms around Kergel’s back and greeted him back in a trembling voice.
“When I come back…”
“……?”
Kergel let her go and spoke impulsively. Then, two pairs of heated eyes gushed out from Lucy and Silloa.
After asking so much to keep it all a secret, that was a sign of reproval when he had been the one who was going to burst out about the birthday party first.
Kergel continued as he ignored all the glances.
“How about going on a trip together?”
“A trip?”
“Yeah. I’m going to stroll around the empire. You and I, together alone.”
After the birthday party, of course. What Kergel wanted to say earlier was lingering in his mouth as he smiled.
Roelin asked a question with a flushed face in surprise when she heard the unexpected statement.
“Can we both leave the Imperial Palace?”
“There’s nothing I can’t do. There are so many capable subjects here.”
Kergel replied with a comical expression. A pair of good horses had already been reserved from the merchant from the Duchy of Pazolan.
Of course, no one but Kergel knew of his own intention to travel alone on that horse.
He glanced at Lucy and she appeared to be smiling in amazement.
Well, it didn’t matter. If they were to get out of here, they would be moving right to the Samalta Mountains anyway.
‘Along with that nagger, Heinez, the Chief of Staff and Bert away.’
