“Boss Wen, don’t be angry. It’s just a routine questioning. May I ask where you were last night?”
Qin Feng did not respond to Wen Jiaxiang’s accusations because although it was the duty of every citizen to cooperate with a police investigation, it was not the same case if it were the other way around.
“Well, I have nothing to hide.”
Wen Jiaxiang waved his hand and answered, “I went out of town to look for a location to open up a new branch of the Imperial Wind Pavilion. There are several witnesses who could prove my alibi. What, can’t a man head out of town for more business opportunities? Humph, I’ll have you know that I have a full alibi for yesterday’s case. I have nothing to do with it.”
Wen Jiaxiang was someone who had been in the business world for many years. His sharp instincts immediately made him realize that this young policeman was suspecting him.
“Boss Wen, don’t be angry. I’m just doing my job. Naturally, we will verify the alibi you mentioned. However, I don’t think the perpetrator has to be on the scene to commit the crime, you know?”
Qin Feng remained calm despite Wen Jiaxiang’s attitude. He was still smiling as he spoke those shocking words.
Wen Jiaxiang’s expression changed because of Qin Feng’s words, but it was that of anger. He looked at Qin Feng and snapped, “Officer Qin, I don’t understand what you mean, and I don’t know why you’re suspecting me. If you have evidence, you can take me directly to the police station. If you don’t, then be careful, or else I’ll sue you for slander. I have something else to attend to, take your time questioning Manager Wang.”
Once Wen Jiaxiang had finished speaking, he stood up and walked away. It was obvious that he was very mad with Qin Feng.
“Qin Feng, was your suspicion off? Also, you were too impulsive just now and didn’t have any evidence. No wonder he was angry when you suspected him so much.”
Mu Qianqian watched Wen Jiaxiang’s back as he left and whispered beside Qin Feng.
“No, I’m not wrong. I’m sure that Wen Jiaxiang is the murderer of Chi Feng. He can’t, he won’t escape me.”
Qin Feng said firmly as he watched Wen Jiaxiang’s back fade into the distance.
“What? But that can’t be right. He said that he went to another province last night. Many people can prove it. If he lied about this, his lie would be easily exposed, right?” Mu Qianqian asked in confusion.
“He didn’t lie about it. He must have gone to the other provinces yesterday.”
Qin Feng lowered his head slightly and explained to Mu Qianqian, “But yesterday’s case was a murder disguised as an accident. The murderer didn’t come up with it on the day of the murder. They had planned it in advance. The murderer had already tampered with the chandelier, and so, the so-called alibi can’t prove that he’s not the murderer.”
Mu Qianqian did not say anything else. She carefully considered what Qin Feng said and recalled the details of the case. Before long, a shocked expression gradually appeared on her face.
Qin Feng was right. This case was a murder disguised as an accident. No one had approached the chandelier on the day of the murder, which meant that it had already been set up a few days in advance. That was why even though Wen Jiaxiang had gone out of town on the day of the murder, his alibi would not clear his name of the crime.
That was because once the murderer had decided on how he wanted to kill his target, he would only have to prepare an alibi in advance.
Wang Qing returned to her work once she had brought Wen Jiaxiang to Qin Feng. However, once she saw her boss’ angered expression as he left the scene, she decided to distance herself from them. Seeing as Wen Jiaxiang did not chase out the police officers, she had no right to do so. However, based on her boss’ angered expression, she reasoned that she should not treat them too friendly as well. She would like to keep her job, and thus, she felt that it was better to avoid them.
Mu Qianqian and Qin Feng did not notice Wang Qing’s behavior, but even if they did, they would not blame her. After all, her actions were to be expected since they had angered her boss.
“Qin Feng, if Wen Jiaxiang is really the murderer of Chi Feng, then there must be a motive. What is the motive? Money? Or is emotionally-fueled?”
Qin Feng glanced at Mu Qianqian who was filled with curiosity and chuckled bitterly. “Do you think that I know everything? What you’re asking is what I wish to know as well. As a dignified multi-millionaire, why would he go so far to kill someone rather than throw money at the problem? Chi Feng is merely a random reporter, what relationship could he have with a multi-millionaire? Did he learn something while he was out reporting? That’s what we’re going to investigate next.”
Mu Qianqian still could not believe it. She looked at Qin Feng and said with a conflicted expression, “I still can’t think of a reason why someone with as great an influence as Wen Jiaxiang would kill someone.”
Qin Feng was amused by Mu Qianqian. “I can’t figure it out either, but there must be a story behind it. Let’s leave for now. There’s no point in blindly guessing. Let’s talk more about it at the police station.”
Now that he had confirmed the identity of the murderer, Qin Feng felt much more relaxed. He could finally go after Wen Jiaxiang now. Even though no new leads were gained, at the very least, it was better than not knowing who the murderer was, and Qin Feng was certain that he was close to reaching the truth of the situation.
“Oh, okay. Let’s head back to the precinct then.”
Mu Qianqian nodded, handed the keys to Qin Feng, and walked out of the main door to leave the Imperial Wind Pavilion.
Wen Jiaxiang stood by the windowsill and watched the police car drive away downstairs. He sat on the sofa in his office with a gloomy face. He could not understand what led the two policemen to suspect him when his plan was clearly flawless. This was especially true for that male policeman who looked at him as if he was saying, “Stop pretending. I’ve seen through your tricks long ago.” It made Wen Jiaxiang feel uneasy.
It was true that Wen Jiaxiang had killed Chi Feng, and he had killed Chi Feng because Chi Feng had realized his true identity, a murderer on the run.
Twenty years ago, Wen Jiaxiang was just a poor kid who only knew how to steal. One day, he picked a house to steal, but he did not expect to run into the mistress of the house as she returned to the house at the last minute to pick up some stuff.
Although the mistress was shocked, she did not want to let the thief go. As a result, she grabbed onto him and shouted for the neighbors to call the police. Afraid of being caught, Wen Jiaxiang killed the woman, and left his hometown overnight with all his valuables in tow.
Wen Jiaxiang had worked in other places for many years and had slowly accumulated some wealth throughout the process. Despite all the fame and wealth he had received, he had not once forgotten that he was a murderer on the run.
Chi Feng found out about this matter from God knows where. He followed and investigated several sources to confirm this matter. Then, he even revealed himself and used this matter to threaten Wen Jiaxiang. He threatened Wen Jiaxiang that unless he gave up half of his assets to him… He would expose that he was a murderer.
It was this greed that forced Wen Jiaxiang to silence him for good..
