The Three Maids

(3rd Person POV)

Instead of answering him, Rose pointed towards the chest drawers. Withered yellow roses were placed in a vase and Belial sighed as he saw this.

“Why didn’t you throw them away? I just…”

Before Belial could finish his words, Rose suddenly plopped to the floor. The hem of the rich dress unfolded like a pillow of clouds.

Why are you all of a sudden sitting on the floor? As Belial was puzzled about her action, Rose held out a hand towards him.

“Come here.”

“…Yes?”

Rose moved her lips with an expressionless face.

“My baby wolf.”

[pr/n: The…laughter that exploded forth. I cannot.]

Belial’s expression hardened instantly.

‘Milady!’ Mira’s face turned pale. The temperature in the room, which had seemed appropriate until recently, immediately dropped to freezing.

It’s not enough that she called him ‘Baby Wolf’, she even said “Come here!” How should we deal with this situation? It is what Mira was worried about.

“Rose…”

Belial opened his mouth.

“I am not an animal.”

Mira thought that his words didn’t match his actions. It was because Belial was steadily approaching Rose as he spoke those words. Belial sat facing Rose and met her at eye level.

“But I cannot refuse your request.”

Belial’s hand was placed onto Rose’s hand. As she looked down at that hand, she then reached out with her other hand.

“Such a good man.”

Rose’s hand stroked Belial’s head.

“Good job.”

Belial clasped Rose’s hand and smiled. Mira, on the other hand, thinks that the two people in front of her were so weird. But since they’re both happy with it, she just leaves them be.

(Rose’s 3rd Person POV)

“Your mother is busy today due to the social gatherings, and as for Beryl, he went out to see the blacksmith.”

Rose’s father, Charles Fall, said with a friendly smile.

“It’s lonely without the two of them, but it’s been a long time since just us two had been able to talk together like this.”

Rika bent over to fill up their teacups with warmed tea. Charles’ most beloved light pink teacup, was soon filled with fragrant tea. Charles took a sip.

“You seem to have gotten along well with the Duke these days. I also heard that a smile never fades from Duke Serenity’s face.”

Rose, who was sitting across from him slaughtering the cake with a fork, replied calmly.

[pr/n: Slaughtering…as you do.]

“We are getting engaged soon anyways.”

“Seeing you like this immediately reminded me of my youth. Oh, did I already mention to you just how beautiful Primrose was?”

“You said it like 403 times this year alone, Dad.”

‘She remembered that?!’ Rika was shocked, as she listened on the side, next to Rose. On the other hand, Charles smiled as he heard it.

“I can’t believe that we’ve only talked that little. We should talk more often in the future.”

“Yes, I will listen to it as much as you want.”

Sip. Charles took another sip of tea.

“But these days, you’ve been buying a lot of books. What books are you reading for you to buy that much?”

“It’s nothing special.”

Rose transferred another piece of cake to her plate.

“It’s a book that will bring Belial and I closer.”

“Oh, to make you and Duke Serenity closer…”

Clink. The teacup fell from Charles’ hand.

“Wait, you mean to tell me that you’re reading a romance book?!”

Instead of answering, Rose pointed towards the fallen cup.

“Father, that’s your favorite teacup…”

“What’s the use of the teacup…! You are reading a love book! But…!”

Tears welled up in Charles’ eyes. Then he immediately got up and hugged Rose. He hugged her so tightly that she almost lost her breath.

“After all, love is great! How could our blunt daughter change like this!”

“…Father.”

“This Father has nothing to lose even if he were to die right now! You both surely will become the best couple in the Empire!”

Rika looked at Mira, who was standing in front of the door, without a word. Mira was desperately trying to hide the pet books that Rose had left out before she sat down.

“It is most important to find out how close the pet is to the owner.”

“But Milady……”

At the end of tea time, Rose laid down on her bed, and read aloud the pet book that she bought.

“Since I already succeeded in using the word ‘Come here’, it can be said that intimacy has already been formed.”

(T/N: Rose had leveled up her craziness, Haha. Poor Belial, but still that’s what makes her cute, for being oblivious to things.)

[pr/n: Well, she’s not wrong hahaha.]

“Milady…”

“The next step is to ‘Lay down’, and I must give enough compliments and treats before entering this step.”

[pr/n: I mean…he would lay down but I’m not sure his definition of it would match yours.]

“Milady!”

Rose finally took her eyes off the book. Mira, on the other hand, looked like she had aged 10 more years.

“You’re not going to make Duke Serenity ‘Lay down’ , right?!”

Rose shook her head.

“Of course not. Belial also has dignity as a human being, too.”

Becky and Rika, who were next to Mira, seemed to also have aged 10 more years. From just simply listening to this.

“….Since you knew that, then why did you still say, ‘Come here’?”

“Milady, if you knew that in the first place, you shouldn’t have tried it out at all.”

“But I was curious.”

‘Because I want to know, if I treat him like that, will he sit still?’ Rose predicted two reactions from him.

Would he listen obediently, or would he explode from the embarrassment and say ‘I can’t stand this any longer!’. Either way, she had nothing to lose.

The former would be fun, while the latter would fulfill her wish.

“Still, I had hoped it was the latter.”

Rose punched the bed with her fist. She had no idea that he would agree to be treated like a dog. Thanks to that, she completely gave up her plan on attacking his temper.

“Then it would be best to….”

‘I think it would be best to just wait for Belial’s true nature to come out while acting as the original Rose. For that to happen, I need to approach it normally and build up the love step by step. What do ordinary people do when they fall in love?’ As Rose pondered, Mira suggested an idea.

“Milady, can’t you just read an ordinary romance book other than this one?”

“Mira, it would not help me even if I read those romance books.”

“Have you already forgotten where you learned Baby Wolf?”

“Oh…”

Rika and Becky immediately chimed in.

“I will buy one with my own money!”

“I, too, with my paycheck!”

“Wait, all of you would buy the books?”

‘Well, ordinary people aren’t as lazy as I am. I guess they would refer to dozens of romance books rather than just one.’ Rose’s eyes lit up.

“Well that’s okay, I’ll buy one with my own money as well.”

“Milady?”

“Since we’re already talking about this. Let’s get ready to go out right away.”

Tears welled up in the maids’ eyes.

“Does that mean that Milady would no longer be reading those pet books?!”

“You’re not going to say ‘Come here’ to Duke Serenity anymore, right?!”

“Ah! Milady, you’re the best!”

So the three of them ran towards and hugged Rose tightly. The reason for their happiness was quite odd, but no one questioned it.

Rose left the mansion with the three maids. The three chatted in the wagon about which romance book was the best. In particular, Mira isn’t the most reliable when it comes to romance novels. So it would take a while before she can familiarize herself with all the romance books out there.

“The new book that just came out is the best. The main plot centers around the Prince of the Empire, and the contents are all reasonable. Other books are centered on the Aristocracy or the common people, and the newly released books are divided into different volumes. That romance book would be the best for you.”

“So, did you get a boyfriend after reading that?”

“Hey, aren’t you crossing the line there?!”

[pr/n: there there buddy, I felt that pain too.]

The carriage quickly left the Fall residence and shortly arrived at the downtown area. In the downtown area, young children dressed similar to Rose were leisurely shopping or sitting in cafes.

Rose got out of the carriage with the help of the maids.

“Which bookstore are we going to?”

“Let’s go to the bookstore I most often go to, Milady. The grandmother who owned that shop gives me a lot of discounts.”

“Okay. Then lead the way…”

At that moment, Rika’s eyes met Mira’s apron. There was a white note sticking out from her apron pocket.

“Mira, what is that note?”

“Note? Oh, I forgot.”

Mira pulled out a note from her pocket.

“The chef told me to buy some spices since we’re going out. They said they ran out of spices for dinner tonight.”

“Where was the spice shop?”

“On the same alleyway where the bookstore is.”

Since it’s the same path, Rose nodded her agreement.

“Then we’d better stop by the spice shop first.”

“Would that be okay with you, Milady?”

“Yes, that’s fine with me.”

With Rose’s permission, Mira no longer had any reason to hesitate. The three of them, together with Rose as well, headed to the spice shop. They went under the guidance of Mira, who is the most familiar with the downtown area.

As soon as they reached the shop, a unique scent wafted through their nose. Mira lifted her heels, as she looked inside the store through the glass wall. The clerks inside were busy moving sacks of spices.

“It seems that someone had placed a bulk order. It’s so hectic inside the store, so I’ll go inside with Becky.”

Mira instructed Rika.

“You will be staying here with Milady.”

“Yeah, don’t worry.”

Rika waved a hand to the two with a faint smile. They then entered the store.

“Milady, it’s finally just the two of us.”

Rika, with her platinum blonde hair in two braids, wrapped her cheeks with her hands and smiled. Anyone could see from her appearance that Rika was the most docile maid in the mansion. Rose had also heard rumors that Rika was popular among knights because she was gentle.

“Milady, I can’t buy you books.”

Rika pulled out a coin purse from her pocket.

“But I can still buy you some cookies because you always treated us well….”

Before Rika could even finish her words, someone snatched her coin purse. Rika quickly turned her head. A boy in a green robe was seen running to the other side of the alley.

“Oh my gosh, my purse! What should I do?”

‘As I said earlier, Rika was the most docile maid in the Fall family mansion. therefore.’

“Ah!!”

Instead of running to catch the person, she immediately takes off her shoe, and throws it at the boy. The shoes flew away in an instant and hit the boy directly in the back of his head.

The boy who was taken down by the shoe was lying on the floor. Rika hopped on one foot and approached the boy. Tears welled up in Rika’s eyes.

“You bad pickpocketer! Give me my wallet right now!”

[pr/n: yes…yes the most ‘docile’ I see.]
