When the devil in the form of Mrs. June faked her death, she didn’t just leave her son, Julius, to fend for himself. No. She used the wealth she accumulated during the Blue Plague and the connection of Dr. August to make all the arrangements he’d ever need to grow up well. From boarding school to trust funds to a golden ticket to the best learning institution in the kingdom. The same one, Eleanor is going to attend.
“Shit… what a mess… Oh well, Julius is still nine, He must be at least twelve before he attends Ember Tower. I just gotta get gone before then.”
Mama, didn’t you want to see me? Didn’t you miss me?
Nope!
Really?
Really!
Reaaally? Really, really? Cross your heart, really?
Really! Now shut up, you snotty brat!
Amelia hugs her chest and turns her head away from Knight Julius’s puppy dog’s eyes.
Knight Julius June, I told you, that person is not your mother. The devil is only manipulating you
Yeah, what he said!
Carter, if that were true, then how would the devil know so much about me? About you? About all of us? There hasn’t been a single person who stepped up to refute any events or interactions that had appeared so far.
So far. A lie shall collapse eventually.
Yeah! What he said! You tell them, Carter!
Keep my name out of your mouth, devil!
That’s right! I’m the devil! Adrian Acker, the Devil! The greatest villain this world has ever seen! Mwahaha! Mwahahahaha!
“Lady Eleanor, a new patient arrives.”
“Bring them in.”
“Lady Eleanor, a new patient arrives.”
“Bring them in.”
“Lady Eleanor, a new patient arrives.”
“Just keep bringing them in until I say stop!”
Eleanor practices her healing throughout winter. Her ability to cast healing spells by using somebody else’s mana allows her to keep going without feeling drained out. And with the vast number of mages volunteering to be her “conduit,” means she can spam out healing like nobody’s business, given that her Silver Blood doesn’t act up of course.
The more lives she saves, the more followers she gains, and the more famous she becomes. Her fame surpasses that of Adrian Acker, becoming the center of all conversations. Eleanor Ambrose, the Silver Angel—the terminally ill girl who can save everyone but herself. Some believe her to be an actual angel. Some believe she’s a fraud. And some, like Tessa Tate, use Eleanor’s fame to sell her products.
“Master, this is a new perfume by Tate Co. Maybe if you can use it while healing people—”
“Alright, Tessa. Bring it to me. That’s it. Come closer. That’s it. That’s it. Now, let me see…”
Eleanor breaks the perfume bottle and pours the content down Tessa’s throat.

“Aasteerrr! Eim ooorry! Eiiim oooooorryyyy!”
The door opens and somebody walks in to see Eleanor bullying Tessa.
“Adrian!”
“Huh!? P-Princess Grace? What are you doing here, your highness?”
“Is it true?! Are you actually going to Ember Tower?!”
“Yes…?”
“It’s not fair! How can you go to school but I can’t?! It’s not fair! It’s not fair! It’s not fair!”
The princess stomps her feet on the floor like an angry child.
“It’s not fair! I’m going to tell my royal father to let me go too!”
The princess screams and rushes back out the door. Some time later, it is announced that Princess Grace will also be attending Umber Tower with Eleanor.
Snow falls over Ivory City, baking the city in white. On one quiet afternoon, the maid informs Eleanor that she has a visitor… it’s young Carter Cage. Carter awkwardly walks into Eleanor’s room. His clothes are significantly better than the rags he used to wear.
“H-hello, Lady Eleanor Ambrose. Uh… my name is Carter. Carter Cage. I’m the boy—I mean, man you met—saved! That’s right, saved twice… and… Uh…”
“How do you do, Carter? I hope you’ve been well since we last met.”
“Ah, yes! I’ve been very well since last time! The duke put me up in a lodge on the east side and…”
Eleanor listens to Carter talk about what happened to him. The boy is excited. The more he talks the more relaxed he gets, eventually he drops the pretense and treats Eleanor as a normal girl like the first time he met her.
Eleanor looks at the teenage boy beside her bed. Her mind thinks of another who used to sit and talk like him.
“You really are similar…”
“What is that, Eleanor?”
“Nothing, Carter. Just… reminiscing. Tell me, what will you do now that you have some funding? Will you… join the knight order as you dreamed of?”
“You bet! But, they say I’m too old to start as a squire. They say those who start late need to already know sword fighting and have some kind of fancy certificate to join.”
“That’s unfortunate. Is there a place where you can receive the proper training?”
“Yeah! I already figured it all out! I just need to go to school and get that blasted certification! And I already have the perfect place in mind!”
“Oh? You don’t mean… Umber Tower do you?”
“Hey, how did you guess?!”
“Sigh… Call it… intuition.”
Eleanor shakes her head with a smile and listens to Carter talk for the rest of the afternoon.
