Chapter 55: Chapter… A Cry for Help

Hey there, author here. It's been a while, hasn't it? The past month was definitely a far cry from back when I uploaded multiple chapters a day. There's no easy way to say this, so I'll come right out and say it: I need your help.

I honestly don't know who else to turn to. Don't worry, I'm not asking to borrow your money or a kidney or anything, but I do have a favor I'd like to ask. But first, a confession.

During the past month, in between messing with the AI and procrastinating on this web novel, I was working on another book. A simple superhero novella for kids that I want to put on KDP, either for free or a few bucks. Now, to be fair, I started working on it back in September and swore I'd finish it before the new year. 2023 is quickly approaching, but I'm not even halfway done, so I've been rushing to get this thing out.

The outline was done months ago. I know exactly what happens in each chapter. But the biggest struggle since I started the project was nailing the professional fiction prose style and delivering something that's up to the standard of the market. As you can already tell, my writing style is…not that at all. I've probably rewritten the first chapter twenty times over, but I'm still not happy with it. And that has ground my progress to a halt for so long.

I was so frustrated that I put the book on hold and started writing about a villain just to let out some steam without any planning or care for the story or prose at all. And that's how "I Feed on Your Hate!" came into existence.

So, as you can see, I'm not technically procrastinating on this story. I was procrastinating on that other book for two whole months, and the time limit is ticking down.

Okay, so what does any of this have to do with you exactly, my dear reader? Well, I'd like to ask you a favor and give my novella a read, to see if it's ready for prime time or not. I'm not a native speaker, and I haven't read a commercial book from start to finish since…middle school, maybe? So, my judgment is skewed, to say the least. I tried consulting Reddit and a few Discord groups, but they weren't much help, so I only have you to count on in these trying times.

Below is a link to the first two chapters (although chapter two isn't complete yet). So would you kindly do me a solid and give it a read? Pretty please, with a cherry on top? I'd appreciate a frank criticism that tells me exactly what I'm doing wrong, so I can finally get this thing out of my system and maybe, possibly, perhaps, conceivably, perchance…I'd get back to writing this story…eventually.

Oh, and if the book is dead on arrival, then just give it to me straight…so I can shift my focus to the other, other stories I have on the shelf.
