“Gu Xiao Xi, you aren’t that far from the third place.” Next to Gu Xi, Dong Mingming studied the trend studiously on her phone.
“This isn’t going to work. I need to try to somehow get you more votes.” Gu Xi wasn’t that far from the third place and, truth was, she wasn’t that far from the second place either. She just might be able to pass those two if they give it some effort.
First place, however, was out of question.
Dong Mingming looked at the number of votes for the first place and sighed. When comparing the number of votes of the first place to those under her, it was a landslide.
“Gu XueEr Gu was first place last year. I guess she is going to take the title two years in a row.” Dong Mingming grumbled.
Gu XueEr?
The name sounded somewhat familiar so Gu Xi poked her head over and looked at the photo on Dong Mingming’s phone.
Sure enough, Gu XueEr was the junior who grabbed them to take pictures for the “Smile Wall” when they walked out of the library a while back.
Gu Xi looked away, not thinking much about it. She continued to doodle on the notebook in front of her.
“What is that?” asked Dong Mingming curiously as she poked her head over after putting away her cellphone.
She recognized all the words that Gu Xi had written down in the text boxes but once they joined into a diagram, she couldn’t tell what it was supposed to be at all.
“I am designing a companion type smart device,” explained Gu Xi.
“For realz?” Dong Mingming’s eyes widened.
She was still on quadratic equation in one variable and her deskmate was already onto developing smart devices?
“Gu Xiao Xi, tell me the truth. Have you already completed all university courses?
“No, wait, are you some boss that had transmigrated over?” Dong Mingming looked at Gu Xi, her eyes narrowed. As far as she was concerned, anyone who’s grades were leaps and bounds ahead of her such as Sheng Xiuyan and Gu Xi, they were all transmigrators! She would not listen to any suggestions otherwise!
Gu Xi wasn’t sure what to make of Dong Mingming’s comment.
She had dreamed of some details about the future but mostly had to do with the dogblood romance story between Lin Yize and Song Kexin. They were meaningless other than for shock value.
“You are exaggerating.” Gu Xi smiled and went on to say, “I am merely designing the front-end product is all.”

To put it simply, she was working on the features of the products.
That was how the three had divided up their responsibilities.
Gu Xi was in charge of the final form, style, functionality, and overall consistency of the product. [AAA] was responsible for breaking that down to its backend system and [Lin] was responsible for the technical portion and making it all happen.
“Why are you scribbling them on two separate pieces of paper? Are they something different?” asked Dong Mingming.
“No.” Gu Xi shook her head. Pointing at the two diagrams, she explained. “Our design concept was to have this companion device to have both basic functions and smart functions.
“On here are its basic functions such as music, knowledge, science information and also data such as traffic and weather conditions.” Usually these would be collected and analyzed from data gathered on the internet or its own database.
Within this area, Gu Xi had further divided them up into five main categories that the public most concerned about: entertainment, medical, learning, lifestyle, and health.
“What about this one then?” Dong Mingming pointed at the more complicated looking one.
“This is the design for it’s self-learning capability,” said Gu Xi.
What she drew out was several methods and models for the smart system to self-learn.
“To put it simply, it would learn through its interaction with its user and gradually mimic ‘emotions’.”
It would be like hiring a butler or assistant. The two were strangers at first but, through learning and understanding, the employer would get use to the service provided by the employee as the employee learned more of the employer’s needs and wants and made adjustments based on the employer’s personality and habits.
Dong Mingming, “……” She didn’t get anything that Gu Xi had just said but it sure sounded very mighty!
“Oh, right. One more thing to add.” Gu Xi thought about it and scribbled down “International Convention” on her diagram and added an asterisk next to it.
Dong Mingming, “……” Whatever you say. It wasn’t like I get what you are talking about anyway.
Dong Mingming looked away and pulled her phone back out. Yup, pulling in votes was more in line with her ability.
As she thought about it, Dong Mingming shared the voting link in her friend's circle and all of her group chats of all sizes.
