Come on, good son, call dad.
“A Fei, it’s your brother who made a mistake this time, so you should help him this once.”
Father Ye put down the tea cup in his hand, looked at Ye Fei’s eyes, and spoke earnestly: “He is young and innocent and has a simple personality. It is excusable being deceived. You should work harder and get the investment money back, no matter how much. Money can’t be squandered.”
It was evening, and was just getting dark. The lights in the house were not yet lit. Faint sunlight shone inside the living room through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and fell on the young man sitting on the sofa.
The young man wore a simple black suit and a pair of thick-rimmed glasses sat on his tall nose bridge. His hair were combed all the way back, revealing his face. It was supposed to be an unremarkable suit, but he looked too good in it. His beautiful facial features suppressed its rusticity, showing a noble sense of luxury.
Ye Yao glanced at him, suppressed the jealousy in his heart, moved towards him and said coquettishly: “Ge, just help me! It’s not that I didn’t listen to you, but the prospects of their plans are too good. It’s not my fault, don’t blame me.”
{t/n: ge in Chinese means brother. It is usually used informally and for an older male.}
Ye Fei lowered his head and stared at his hands motionlessly, without reacting.
Father Ye frowned and raised his volume, dissatisfied. “Ye Fei, did you hear me?”
This sound finally brought Ye Fei, who was immersed in his thoughts, back to his senses. He slowly raised his head, lost in a daze. His eyes drifted around for a few seconds, and finally focused on Father Ye.
“Your brother saw that it was too hard to manage the company by yourself, and wanted to share a little bit of the burden for you. Everyone makes mistakes and I have already taught him.” Father Ye picked up the phone and squinted his presbyopic eyes to look at the date. “Today is the eighteenth. Resolve it within this month, okay?”
The room was quiet for a while. Just when Father Ye couldn’t help but want to speak again, Ye Fei suddenly asked an unrelated question. “What date did you say it is today?”
“Eighteen.”
“Which month?”
Father Ye was startled and said angrily, “Which month can it be? It’s May eighteen!”
May 18. Late spring and early summer.
But he clearly remembered that it should be winter. The day before, there was a rare heavy snowfall that occurred once in a century. All the television stations were broadcasting it in turns.
Ye Fei moved his gaze away from Father Ye’s outdated fingerprint lock-enabled phone, swept across the blooming lilacs outside the window, and finally fixed it on the back of his pale hands which were devoid of any perforations or bruises.
He took a deep breath, and restrained his jumping heart. He closed and opened his eyes and finally stood up slowly as if he had made up his mind.
There was no soft feeling in his legs and he didn’t fall. Strong legs supported his entire body as he stood firmly on the ground. Ye Fei leaned on the wine cabinet. Feeling the subtle pain from the hardwood compartment against his back, he suddenly smiled.
Half a month after being diagnosed with progressive/gradual freezing disease and lying paralysed in bed for a week, he had returned to the year he was twenty-four, two years in the past.
{t/n: The medical term for “gradual freezing disease” is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Disease. For the rest of the novel, I will be calling it ALS or ALSD (abbreviated) instead of gradual/progressive freezing disease.
Detailed info about ALS is at the end of the chapter.}
The scene in front of him was very familiar, it was when Ye Yao had caused a catastrophe for the first time.
The Ye family ran a small film and television company. Four months ago, Ye Yao ignored Ye Fei’s persuasion and while he was out on a business trip, took the chance to invest in a costume drama that was said to be 100% explosive.
Unexpectedly, the entire project was actually a mess and it didn’t take long to squander his investment of 20 millions.
Ye Yao was now riding a tiger. It was hard to get off. Continuing to invest was tantamount to taking the money to fill a bottomless pit. If withdrawn, all the money previously invested would be spent for nothing.
{t/n: when riding a tiger, it’s hard to get off is a Chinese idiom meaning impossible to stop halfway.}
As always, Father Ye rightfully asked Ye Fei to wipe his beloved little son’s ass.
Seeing that Ye Fei didn’t answer for a long time, Father Ye threw his mobile phone in anger. “What? Are you still unsatisfied?”
Towards his elder son, he was far from being as patient as he was with his younger son. He scolded with a grimace. “Do you think you are right after all this happened? I asked you to guide Ye Yao properly, didn’t I? Did you teach him anything?”
He looked at Ye Fei whose face resembled his dead wife. For a moment, he fell in a daze and then without looking at Ye Fei, said coldly, “Get the money back as soon as possible, and I won’t care about you.”
Ye Fei sneered, his face full of mockery.
But just in a few minutes, all his rigidity and seriousness disappeared. He lazily leaned against the wine cabinet, tore off his tightly tied tie and undid the first button of his shirt.
When Father Ye saw this, he thought Ye Fei was very angry. Although he was impatient, he slowed down and coaxed Ye Fei. “Dad knows your ability. You can definitely get things done before the end of the month.”
After a pause, he deliberately added, “You don’t want your brother to be devastated by this incident, do you?”
He knew his son.
He knew how important family and affection were in his son’s heart. Although Ye Yao was not born from his mother, Ye Fei had always loved him a lot since he was a child.
He knew that Ye Fei couldn’t let it go just like this.
Father Ye gave Ye Yao a wink. Ye Yao immediately understood, and held Ye Fei’s arm while giving it a shake. “I didn’t mean it. I just wanted to make some achievements because of the people who look down on me. Ge, I was wrong. Please forgive me. Forgive me…..”
He was so young that it was easy to make people feel reluctant when he looked so well-behaved while begging for mercy.
Ye Fei was so confused in his previous life that he worked so hard to help him with the aftermath.
But in this life, Ye Fei would never be like that again.
He would never forget the so-called face of his family after he got sick.
They argued that gradual freezing disease was a terminal illness and that there was no treatment. After he was paralyzed, he was forcibly discharged from the hospital, imprisoned in a small room and left unattended.

His father was busy contacting the insurance companies to settle claims and his brother, who had always been protected by him in every possible way, couldn’t wait to start calculating what that money could buy.
No one asked him if it hurt or if he felt comfortable. Everyone looked forward to using his illness to exchange money.
Those were the most desperate and humiliating seven days of Ye Fei’s life. He tried to escape countless times and even prayed for death, but he was so weak that he couldn’t even lift a finger, let alone kill himself.
He was prepared to die an ugly death. He never thought that after drinking a glass of milk, he would return to a point of time two years in the past.
At this time, he was still very healthy and was working diligently for the Ye family.
“Ge!” Ye Fei did not comfort him gently as usual, Ye Yao felt inexplicably uneasy in his heart, and leaned in to please Ye Fei. “I promise this is the last time.”
From up close, Ye Fei’s face was not only flawless, it was more like perfect. Ye Yao remembered being compared to Ye Fei while growing up. He lowered his eyes to hide the frigid gloom in them, trying to maintain the image of a good little brother. “Don’t be angry, alright?”
Ye Fei had no intention of wasting time watching him acting, and coldly pulled his arm out of his hand.
His Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Disease was inherited from his mother. There was no way to prevent this genetic disease even if it was known in advance. But Ye Fei didn’t feel depressed. It was God’s blessing to be able to live again and make up for regrets, even if he only lived for two more years.
In his last life, he worked hard for the Ye family and put all his energy into work. His days were boring. Not to mention eating meat, he had not even talked about love.
{t/n: eating meat is a Chinese slang for sex. Since China is strict about censorship and all, people generally use indirect connotations to refer to sex and the like.}
In this life……..
Ye Fei smiled cynically. Fuck work! Fuck the Ye family! With only two years of his life left, why the hell would he still struggle? After going out of this door and solving all his problems, he will find a good tool to enjoy his first time.
“And you say you love me!” Ye Yao was originally unwilling to admit that he wasn’t as good as Ye Fei and was already at the limit of his endurance when he lowered his temper and apologized in a meek voice. At this moment, seeing Ye Fei’s tardiness in answering, he immediately flew into a rage out of humiliation. “In the end, even for this trivial matter, you are unwilling to help.”
He paused, then raised his neck. “It wouldn’t be like this if we were birthed by the same mother.”
Father Ye slapped the table as he took a quick look at him. “What nonsense is this?”
Yet, he didn’t reprimand his little son much, rather aimed the artillery at Ye Fei. “You see what you’ve forced your brother into? Why? Are you going to turn your face away when your wings are hard?”
Father Ye sneered. “Let me tell you, in the Ye family, I have the final say. Over there in the company, if I say a word, you have to pack up and leave.”
Ye Fei sat back on the sofa again.
His sitting posture was no longer rigid and upright. He leaned bonelessly against the sofa cushion, his two long legs overlapping. He slightly raised his chin and looked at Father Ye, lightly mocking, “What beautiful dreams are you cooking?”
Ye family’s entertainment company, Dingyuan, had been running out of money in recent years, so much so, that it reached the point of bankruptcy and liquidation. If it wasn’t for Ye Fei who took over and turned the tide, the company would have collapsed like a sand castle on the beach, with Ye father and Ye Yao pulling at its hind legs.
It could be said that everyone in the Ye family was being raised by Ye Fei.
“What did you say?” Father Ye looked at Ye Fei in shock and could not believe that his eldest son, who had always been obedient, would say such a thing.
“Are you angry?” Ye Fei smiled and waved to Ye Yao who was also stunned. “Come here and I will teach you a new word.”
Ye Yao subconsciously walked over. “What?”
Ye Fei spat out four words. “Powerless anger.”
{t/n: The raws wrote 无能狂怒 which are four characters/words.}
Although Father Ye didn’t understand Internet language, he could guess the meaning of the word. His face turned pale with anger. “Little beast! What did you say?!”
“Look.” Ye Fei said lightly. “Now, it’s double the powerless anger.”
“You……..” Father Ye picked up the lid of the teapot at hand and was about to smash it over when Ye Fei said suddenly, “It’s not impossible to let me take care of this.”
Father Ye’s movements stalled, and he put down the lid of the teapot in a hesitant manner. He did not speak, but was greatly relieved.
The more than 20 million that Ye Yao threw out, accounted for almost half of the company’s liquid assets.
Ye Fei being reluctant to help, is something which is not going to happen. Thinking of this, Father Ye couldn’t help showing a trace of complacency.
Ever since Ye Fei was a child, he had been brainwashing him day after day.
Looking at it today, more than ten years of his hard work were not in vain.
No matter how angry, he would still obediently work for the family.
Father Ye picked up the tea cup, blew the tea leaves floating on water, and took a sip comfortably.
“Then why are you still here? Hurry up and go to the company!”
“Don’t worry.” Ye Fei’s gaze swept over Father Ye and Ye Yao, his eyes squinting. “As the saying goes, whoever gives birth to the child is responsible. Since you pushed this to me…”
He lifted his eyes and looked at Ye Yao who was still angry, and chuckled. “Come on, good son, call dad.”
ALSD or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Disease – It is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells related to movement in the brain and spinal cord, causing the death of motor neurons and making the brain unable to control muscle movement. The main clinical manifestation is gradual muscle atrophy and weakness, and the patient will eventually die due to respiratory failure. The famous physicist Stephen Hawking, who died not long ago, was diagnosed with this disease at the age of 21 and eventually fought with it for 55 years.
Source of information : xinhuanet
In this book, the symptoms of the disease are somewhat different but that can be due to the fact that different people usually show different symptoms. Also, people with ALSD usually don’t live long. At an average, three to five years since the disease doesn’t allow one to and also because of the expensive treatment. Stephen Hawking is the only known case who lived so long while fighting this disease.
For detailed symptoms, treatment and other information, you can just web search ALSD.
