Chapter 170: Princess Yun Le

Morning came and An Lin woke up as the warm sunlight shone through the window and onto his face.

There was a flower pot on the windowsill in which a small red flower, Xiao Hong, was planted.

Although An Lin had put her out under the sun daily to carry out photosynthesis, she still did not show any signs of awakening.

He placed Xiao Hong into his pocket and gathered Da Bai and Xiao Chou together before he bade farewell to Xuanyuan Cheng.

Before they left, Tang Shiyuan gifted An Lin a white jade ornament with protective properties as repayment for saving her life during the battle on the Heavenly Dawn Peak.

An Lin did not think too much and accepted it.

Tang Shiyuan stood in silence on the tip of the mountain, almost blending into the cloud and mist around her as she watched An Lin departed. The wind picked up a few strands of her hair as her slim white hand tightened around another jade ornament.

The Purple Star State was located to the east of the Stone Dragon State and was the only state in the Kingdom of the Nine States that did repress the advancement of science.

The Green Wood Imperial Family from the one heaven, four sects, and nine imperials even went as far as to act as promoters of the concept of combining cultivations and technology.

The Green Wood Imperial Family had some sort of agreement with the Heavenly Court so the Heavenly Court did not interfere with their research. Instead, the Heavenly Court provided them with some resources to support them.

The Purple Star State and Stone Dragon State were neighboring states, so An Lin did not use the teleportation spell formation and instead chose to fly there through Dog Kinesis Flight.

He felt an immediate change as he entered the territory of the Purple Star State.

The buildings here were no longer simple brick and clay structures. There were already buildings constructed from concrete in the area. He even saw a few trains. Even though these were just primitive steam trains, it was still quite a surprise already.

The roads were planned and constructed very well and there were all types of strange mechanical contraptions traveling on them. Some of them had four wheels to resemble cars whereas others floated in the sky like hovercrafts.

He even witnessed a few huge warships flying the sky. They did not fly quickly, but their astounding capacity allowed them to house thousands of people at once.

The level of technological progression the Purple Star State was situated at appeared to be a level akin to that on Earth right after the first industrial revolution. However, there were many inventions that had not even appeared on Earth before. An Lin could only marvel at the scene in front of him which combined both futuristic as well as archaic elements.

They traveled toward the Green Wood Imperial Palace, encountering countless marvelous spectacles on the way. An Lin was starting to worry that the palace of the imperial family would be a huge skyscraper.

Finally, they reached their destination.

He breathed a light sigh of relief as the Green Wood Imperial Palace was quite similar to what he had in mind.

It was a series of beautifully-constructed palaces joined together in a massive group which exuded an air of prestige and majesty. The golden glazed tiles on the roof shone with a regal and majestic glow under the sun.

At the gate of the imperial palace, there were several dozen armored soldiers standing on guard exuding powerful auras.

After informing them of his purpose for visiting the palace, a general responsible for guarding the gate contacted someone from within the palace.

“Yes, I’ll bring the guest in. What… The princess will personally attend to him? Ah, alright then…”

The general deactivated the voice transmission talisman and spoke to An Lin with an extremely respectful expression, “Princess Yun Le is on her way here, thank you for your patience.”

An Lin nodded and stretched lazily on Da Bai’s back.

Soon, he heard the sound of rumbling footsteps.

“Classmate An Lin~~” A mellow voice sounded from afar.

An Lin raised his head to find Su Qianyun sitting atop a huge blue wolf of twenty feet in height, which was in the process of charging toward him.

She wore a red and white palace robe, and her porcelain-like features were lit up with a happy smile as she waved her hand at An Lin.

“Hi there, Su Qianyun.” An Lin smiled and waved in response.

“I didn’t expect you to come to visit me, what a pleasant surprise.”

Su Qianyun was clearly ecstatic, and she wore a very sweet and alluring smile on her face, making it difficult for An Lin to look away.

“Oh right, this Heavenly River Wolf is my beast pet. Its name is Xiao Man.” Su Qianyun introduced as she led the way towards the palace gates on the back of her huge blue wolf.

The Heavenly River Wolf was several times larger than Da Bai and appeared very imposing and fearsome. The aura it emitted was also quite powerful, clearly signifying that it was already a beast of Soul Formation Stage.

An Lin also greeted the Heavenly River Wolf enthusiastically at Su Qianyun’s introduction.

Then, he looked at the Heavenly River Wolf before looking back at Da Bai. He then fell into deep thought.

Both of them were riding on their respective beast pets, but the atmosphere was somehow a little awkward.

If he had to describe it, he felt like Su Qianyun was driving a Ferrari, while he was driving a Chery QQ alongside her; the sharp disparity was like heaven and earth.

Due to the height difference between the two beast pets, An Lin had to crane his neck just to speak to Su Qianyun.

Su Qianyun was not wearing a short skirt or anything, so there was nothing to be gained from craning his neck upwards aside from exhaustion and neck pains.

With this in mind, he patted Da Bai with a hopeful expression and asked softly, “Da Bai, when will you become as big as Xiao Man?”

Da Bai rolled its eyes and answered succinctly, “I won’t, this is as big as I’ll get. It’s your choice whether you want to ride me or not.”

An Lin sighed with disappointment at Da Bai’s response.

Su Qianyun immediately realized something after seeing An Lin’s crestfallen expression and internally scolded herself for not taking An Lin’s feelings into consideration before patting Xiao Man’s head.

The Heavenly River Wolf immediately understood her intentions and transformed itself to be the same size as Da Bai with a flash of blue light.

Thus, Su Qianyun and An Lin continued forward shoulder to shoulder.

An Lin was taken aback at the sight of this and patted Da Bai’s head again with admiration on his face. “Look at Xiao Man, it can control its size at will.”

Da Bai’s fur bristled and it sneered scornfully, “I can change my size at will too, wolf! I can demonstrate for you right now!”

“Really!?” An Lin’s eyes lit up as excitement began to well up in his heart.

A white light flashed, following which An Lin fell heavily to the ground with a thump.

A mini version of Da Bai from before it had formed a beast core appeared in front of him.

“See, I can change my size too, do you like it? Woof!” Da Bai laughed scornfully.

An Lin crawled up from the ground with an upset expression. “Da Bai, please stop playing around. I don’t need you to be able to change your size, just return to your former imposing self.”

“You only know to try and flatter me now? Too late, woof!” Da Bai turned and stalked away with its chest out and head held high while maintaining its miniature form.

An Lin: “…”

Humans only realized they had taken something for granted once they lost it.

Great, now he did not even have his Chery QQ and could only continue on foot.

Su Qianyun pondered for a bit when she discovered An Lin’s pitiful state and patted Xiao Man’s head again.

Hence, Xiao Man transformed once again to match Da Bai’s size.

Hmm… From this direction, it looked like two little puppies walking side by side.

Su Qianyun walked to An Lin’s side gracefully with a light smile on her face.

An Lin was greatly touched by her gesture. Classmate Su is so kind and thoughtful…

It looked like he did not teach her Mandarin and English for nothing!

An Lin spoke in Mandarin to Su Qianyun, “Classmate Su, you look really beautiful when you smile.”

Su Qianyun’s dreamy blue eyes blinked in incomprehension.

She stared at An Lin adorably and asked in a mellow voice, “What did you just say?”

An Lin: “…”

Scratch that… It looked like his efforts in teaching her were in vain after all.
