Chapter 782: The Mighty Figure from the Opposite Shore Realm

Everything had happened so abruptly.

This was like an emperor traveling with his entourage through the land over which he ruled, surrounded by countless kneeling bystanders under his jurisdiction, only to have one of those bystanders hurl a pile of sh*t at him. No one would have thought that there would be such an insolent person present at the scene.

Even though a sudden phenomenon had erupted between heaven and earth, none of the beasts present had had their powers restricted, which was why the centipede was still able to summon that bolt of lightning.

An Lin stared at the falling bolt of white lightning in shock. Any normal person would not have provoked such an imposing party. However, the perpetrator was not a person, it was instead a centipede!

And this was a centipede from the Sinister Spirit Beast Cesspool!

The white lightning pierced through the night sky before crashing into the carriage being carried by the four huge humanoid goats.

Boom!

The lightning exploded upon striking the roof of the carriage, and the carriage trembled slightly, but it showed no signs of damage.

The tens of thousands of advancing, semi-transparent beasts faltered as they turned their eyes toward the centipede. They were all completely silent, but a menacing chill exuded from their bodies, which threatened to freeze the air solid.

Even An Lin’s heart fluttered at this sight, and he involuntarily held his breath in anticipation for what was going to happen next.

However, the centipede remained unperturbed in the face of such overwhelming pressure. “That’s what you get for trying to scare people at night! I’ll blast you all to death!”

An Lin was shocked. Was this centipede actually mentally disabled?

It was also at this moment that lightning flashed around the centipede’s body as it prepared to launch another attack!

But it didn’t get the chance to do so.

Among the tens of thousands of semi-transparent beasts, one of the more eye-catching ones, which appeared to be a general or leader of sorts, hurled its spear toward the centipede.

Whoosh!

The spear pierced through space and instantly embedded itself into the centipede’s body.

“Hiss… Hiss!” the centipede hissed with agony.

Its body slowly crumbled before disappearing on the spot.

An Lin then caught sight of a new addition to the army of tens of thousands of beasts. This was a huge, semi-transparent centipede that was advancing with the procession somewhere within the army of beasts.

His heart jolted in shock upon seeing. The centipede had become one of them?!

Within Bai Hu City, more than half of the beasts engaged in battles unleashed attacks upon the beast tide in the air.

Thus, in less than a minute, all of them were eradicated.

They all became members of the peculiar beast tide.

And that wasn’t the end. Over ten thousand semi-transparent beasts drew their bows before materializing a green arrow each, which they aimed at different directions within Bai Hu City.

Fire!

Whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh…

Over ten thousand arrows shot forth in that instant!

A torrential storm of green arrows rained down, creating a spectacularly eye-catching light show in this black and white world.

They pierced through the black night sky like a meteor shower before falling toward different locations within Bai Hu City!

An Lin, Xu Xiaolan, and Xiao Ze’s expressions shifted in unison.

They immediately unleashed their divine sense to detect any arrows that might have been aimed toward them.

Countless cries of anguish rang out across Bai Hu City!

Even though the voices seemed muffled and subdued under this peculiar phenomenon, they were still clearly audible to people like An Lin with advanced cultivation bases.

Each and every one of those anguished cries signified the death of another beast.

It was also in that moment that the beast tide of over seventy thousand transformed into a beast tide of over eighty thousand.

Silence reigned over heaven and earth again.

A powerful, yet ethereal voice said, “Purge complete, move on to the next stop.”

The entire beast tide seemed to have received some sort of instruction as they resumed their procession, continuing onward over the massive green path.

The peculiar army left, just like that, and heaven and earth resumed normalcy.

Many of the sleeping beasts hadn’t even reacted to the events that had just transpired as they continued snoring away without a care in the world. It was impossible to tell whether they had been afflicted by a spell technique, or if they really were sleeping so soundly.

The overwhelming pressure disappeared, and An Lin heaved a heavy sigh of relief. He turned to look at Xu Xiaolan, and they both saw the same expression of shock mirrored in each other’s eyes.

They didn’t dare to investigate the beast tide as they were scared of the potential consequences that could lead to.

The power that the beast tide had just unleashed gave them an overwhelming sense of powerlessness.

“Those beasts were most likely killed before being converted into a special type of existence.” Xu Xiaolan analyzed after a momentary silence, “From the extent of my knowledge, they appear to be a lot like the dead soul puppets I’ve heard about.”

“Dead soul puppets?” This was the first time An Lin had ever come across this term.

“That’s right. They are a type of dead soul and are what we often refer to as ghosts.”

“However, they are ghosts without sentient awareness. They possess a fraction of the power they had during their lives and are controlled by an external living being,” Xu Xiaolan explained.

“Dead souls that are controlled by living beings?” A thought seemed to occur to An Lin as his eyes lit up, and he asked, “Could it be a mighty figure from the Opposite Shore Realm?”

Only cultivators from the Opposite Shore Realm, which neighbored the Sinister Spirit Beast Cesspool, were this adept at playing with dead souls.

Xu Xiaolan was clearly in agreement with the assumption. “The creature in that carriage is most likely an Opposite Shore Realm mighty figure. Aren’t they afraid of retaliation from the Sinister Spirit Beast Cesspool after engaging in such a reckless slaughter and dead soul recruitment?”

“Is it possible that the beast tribes asked them to come here and purge some of the beasts?” A bold assumption formed in An Lin’s mind. “It had said ‘purge complete, move on to the next stop’ as if it was completing some sort of mission.”

Xu Xiaolan nodded. “That’s a possibility. Perhaps it even has something to do with the unrest and turmoil within the Sinister Spirit Beast Cesspool. However, these are only baseless assumptions. We’ll have to wait and see what the Jade Bone Immortal Bug says tomorrow about this. I have a feeling that the gathering of the Soul Formation Stage soul beasts here tomorrow is not a coincidence.”

An Lin continued to speculate, “You’re saying that it intentionally invited the Opposite Shore Realm mighty figure to complete a purge right before this gathering?”

“That is indeed a possibility.” Xu Xiaolan nodded.

The two of them fell silent.

They continued to sit on the roof of the building while looking up at all the stars in the clear night sky.

It was a beautiful night.

Well, aside from all the disconcerting snoring noises, everything was extremely serene and beautiful.

There were no more battles taking place either, and the entire city almost felt like a normal city.

Before they knew, a new morning had arrived.

The golden tiger arrived at Bai Hu City before contacting An Lin and the others via voice transmission talisman.

“Did you see a beast tide passing over the sky yesterday?” An Lin asked in a low voice upon meeting the golden tiger.

“A beast tide in the sky? Is it a bunch of migrating bird beasts?” The golden tiger was befuddled.

An Lin heaved a forlorn sigh upon hearing this.

It looked like the golden tiger knew nothing.

An Lin, Xu Xiaolan, and Xiao Ze headed toward the central palace of Bai Hu City as servants to the golden tiger, where the Jade Bone Immortal Bug was waiting for them.

An Lin gave his Illusionary Star Robe to Xu Xiaolan for her to wear. This was in order to conceal her aura and prevent her from blowing her cover.

An Lin’s consciousness held a crushing advantage over most Return to Void Stage mighty figures, so he could easily conceal and disguise his aura.

Xiao Ze would have no problems either as his cultivation base was at the pinnacle of the Return to Void Intermediate Stage.

Apparently, the Jade Bone Immortal Bug was only at the pinnacle of the Return to Void Initial Stage.

It would be impossible for it to detect anything amiss with An Lin’s trio.

Under the guidance of the golden tiger, An Lin, Xu Xiaolan, and Xiao Ze arrived at the massive palace. The place was over a kilometer tall and gave off a majestic, antiquated feel. The walls were painted with black and white stripes like a zebra and that was the extent of its noteworthy features.

This was the mantra of the beast tribes; it was ok as long as it was inhabitable.

How simple!

An Lin walked into the palace with curiosity in his heart.
