An Lin was dumbstruck for a second.

All three of his legs gave out, and he almost collapsed to the ground as he offered a frantic explanation.

“Xiaolan, let me explain, there has been a misunderstanding! It’s not what you think!”

A gentle smile appeared on Xu Xiaolan’s face. “It’s not what I think? I had thought you didn’t know what the effect of the lollipop was and was eager to share it with me, thereby resulting in both of us falling victim to it. So… I was wrong?”

An Lin faltered upon hearing this.

What the f*ck… Was she always this lenient?!

He felt like he had grasped onto a lifejacket, and he immediately waved his hands before him. “No no no! I misunderstood! It’s exactly what you were thinking! I had no clue that the lollipop would have an effect like that! Xiaolan, you have to believe me!”

Xu Xiaolan’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Hehe…”

An Lin: “…”

Thump thump thump… bang bang bang… clatter clatter clatter… puff puff puff…

Another ghastly display of domestic violence ensued.

Two hours later, An Lin finally hobbled out from her dorm room.

His legs were trembling, his knees were bright red, and there were a series of brutal wounds scratched upon them.

“When did Xiaolan become so violent? I was giving her the lollipop for her sake, but she made me kneel on the Lava Jackfruit!

“It would be fine if it was just kneeling on the Lava Jackfruit, but she didn’t even allow me to use my divine body…”

An Lin grumbled as he hobbled back to his dorm room.

The scorching and heart-wrenching pain still remained fresh in his mind. This was an unforgettable experience that he never wanted to remember!

“Big Brother An, you’re finally back! Congratulations on securing victory in the free-for-all battle! Are we going to have a celebratory feast tonight? Woof!”

Da Bai immediately ran in excited circles around An Lin as soon as he walked into the door, his intentions clear as day.

An Lin rolled his eyes. “I’m on a tight budget, so the frying pan’s flavor enhancement effect has been expended on cooking stuffed buns.”

“Giant An Lin, what happened to your knees?” Tina immediately caught sight of An Lin’s injury, and she flapped her wings and flew toward An Lin before unleashing a healing spell technique on his injured knees.

“Good girl, Little Na!” An Lin gently caressed her golden hair with a gratified expression.

As expected, keeping a little fairy around was much more useful than keeping a dog around.

Dogs could only eat and sleep, but a little fairy was like a warm jacket that could provide him with constant warmth.

Da Bai finally came to a realization that he had made his intentions too obvious and had irked An Lin as a result. He immediately ran toward An Lin and extended his tongue. “Big Brother An, I’ll lick your injured knees for you!”

An Lin’s lips twitched. “F*ck off!”

Da Bai bounded away with an aggrieved expression. What had he said wrong? All dogs licked their wounds as saliva was an antiseptic that could contribute to quicker regeneration…

An Lin’s knees were soon fully healed.

He looked around his room to discover that aside from Little Na, Xiao Hong was joyfully photosynthesizing as usual, Da Bai had silently slinked away to lie down somewhere, and Little Gu had settled on Xiao Hong’s flower petals like a butterfly fawning over a flower.

An Lin’s brows furrowed slightly. There seemed to be someone missing…

He only came to the realization with regard to who it was after a short while. Where was Xue Zhantian?

“What has Little Tian been up to these past few days? Why do I not see him around?”

“Him? He’s preparing to make a breakthrough. He was at one of the university’s mountains to observe his own dao!” Tina replied.

An Lin’s interest was immediately piqued upon hearing this. “Which mountain? Let’s go visit him!”

Even though he had always adopted a hands-free approach when it came to looking after his beast pets, he had to support his beast pet during a breakthrough.

Thus, An Lin rode on Da Bai as they flew toward a certain mountain with Xiao Hong, Little Na, and Little Gu in tow.

That mountain was the tallest peak at The United University of Cultivation. It was like a sharp sword stabbing straight through the clouds, and its peak was the closest place to the sky.

A furry white ball lay on the summit, having folded his intricate wings away, and was staring blankly up at the mountain with his big, round eyes.

“Little Tian! I heard you’re about to make a breakthrough?” An Lin settled beside Xue Zhantian.

At the sight of his soft, furry body, he immediately wanted to snuggle up with him, but he didn’t know what kind of state Xue Zhantian was in at the moment, so he repressed the urge to do so in order to not throw Xue Zhantian off.

Xue Zhantian’s eyes were a little downcast as he replied in a slow voice, “Don’t make such a big fuss, Master. This is just a breakthrough. It’s not like I can break the sky.”

An Lin was a little perplexed. He felt like Xue Zhantian was a little dejected.

Shouldn’t Xue Zhantian’s reply be something like a bold cry of “I’ll break through, then break the sky!”?

An Lin turned toward the other beast pets with curiosity in his eyes. “Has something bad happened to Little Tian recently?”

Da Bai, Xiao Hong, and Tina shook their heads with oblivious expressions.

“Little Tian has just been looking up at the sky on the summit of this mountain recently, barely talking to anyone. Perhaps he has entered a special mental state right before he’s about to make his breakthrough?” Xiao Hong speculated in her sweet voice.

Da Bai had a different opinion on this matter. “Little Lang didn’t exhibit any mood changes like this when he made his breakthrough, so why should Little Tian be any different? I think he has developed mental demons!”

Tina made a lap around Xue Zhantian before extending a tiny finger, which she laid onto his white, furry head. “He’s very healthy, and there are no abnormalities within his body.”

An Lin nodded. If that was the case, then this was either a pre-breakthrough complex, or he had encountered some sort of mental block.

It would be fine if it was just the former, but the latter could lead to mental demons or instability of one’s dao heart, which might in turn even lead to him perishing during this divine tribulation.

An Lin felt like he had to intervene now and see if there was something he could help with.

He knelt down beside Xue Zhantian and inquired in a gentle voice, “Little Tian, is there something bothering you?”

Xue Zhantian shook his head silently. “Master, I don’t really feel like talking at the moment. I just want some peace and quiet.”

An Lin was heartbroken upon hearing this. “You used to talk in idioms, just what kind of harrowing experience could have reduced you to an uncultured person of such vulgarity?!”

Xue Zhantian: “…”

All the beast pets: “…”

What the f*ck?! Wasn’t he supposed to help Xue Zhantian make his breakthrough? Why was he focusing on stupid things like this?!

“Sigh…” Xue Zhantian looked up into the sky and let loose a forlorn sigh. “Master, you should return to your abode. You will be powerless to help me as these are problems only I can resolve.”

An Lin was ecstatic. “Little Tian, congratulations on recovering your status as an educated snow soul beast!”

Xue Zhantian: “… Are you insisting on staying?”

“I’m going to stay by your side and watch you break through!” An Lin replied firmly.

Upon hearing this, Xue Zhantian’s heartstrings were finally tugged, and he decided to open up. “Alright, Master, then I’ll tell you my concerns.”

An Lin nodded encouragingly as he prompted in a kind voice, “You can tell me anything. I’ll definitely help you with any issues you may have!”

Xue Zhantian paused momentarily before speaking, “Progression to the Return to Void Stage requires the need for a Golden Void Lightning tribulation transcendence…”

Everyone nodded in response.

“I’ve discovered a massive problem with that.” Xue Zhantian looked up into the sky with indignation and rage. “During the trial tribulation, why is it that heavens are allowed to attack me, but I can only take it in silence?

“Why is it that the heavens can hit me, but I can’t retaliate?

“Why?!

“I refuse to let that happen! I cannot live with such indignation and humiliation!!!”

Tears of rage welled up in Xue Zhantian’s eyes as he spoke.

An Lin: “…”

All the beast pets: “…”
