Chapter 39

Enjoying the Aquarium

TLN: Enjoy the chapter~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Aikawa-san, let’s go this way first, okay?”
“…Mhn!”
Perhaps it was the season for field trips or school excursions, the museum was filled with schoolchildren and junior high school students in their uniforms.
(I knew it… this aquarium is really popular.)
This aquarium was one of the five most famous places in Japan.
One of the most rare features of the aquarium was that it was home to the Gifu Giant Salamander, a special natural treasure of Gifu Prefecture.
Gifu was famous for its ayu (sweetfish), Shirakawa-go, and the giant salamander.
The presence of the giant salamander was so great, for me atleast, that it takes away the space for Hida beef, Gifu’s biggest attraction.
“Oh, I didn’t know there was Photo Booth at the aquarium~”
“…!”
Aikawa-san overreacted when I blurted that out.
“Hmm? What’s wrong?”
U-Uun.”
Aikawa-san then looked away just like earlier.
Then after some small idle talk, we headed to the big aquarium in the foreground.
“Aikawa-san, is this your first time at an aquarium?”
“Mhn.”
“It’s actually my first time too, so I’m really looking forward to this.”
Aikawa-san then nodded in agreement When I said so.
As we turned a corner, a completely different world opened up before us.
“……!”
A school of small fish swimming in a large tank, and many large fish were swimming leisurely in the middle of them.
Seaweeds and stones were placed at the bottom of the water, creating an independent worldview as if the place was a single ocean.
What caught my attention was a shark with horns.
“Mhn.”
Aikawa-san pointed her finger at a signboard.
Apparently, it contains data on the fish kept in the aquarium.
“Hee~ says here, it’s called Sawtooth Shark.”
Certainly, when I looked at it again, there were countless jagged edges on the corners, which was very intriguing.
Aikawa-san seemed to agree, as she put her hand on the tank and watched the sawtooth sharks swim by with a twinkle in her eye.
“Says here that sawfish are responsible for finding prey hidden in the sand.”
There was a light trivia written on the sign, so I read it as it was.
“Other roles include catching prey… oh, I’ve never heard of that.”
However, It seemed that my words didn’t reach her, maybe because Aikawa-san was impressed by the shark.
“Mhn…!”
When I was feeling a little subtle, Aikawa-san suddenly pulled my hand.
As I was wondering, she pointed her finger at the sand in surprise.
“….”
“Eh? Is there something there?”
“Muu…”
There was no particular creature to be seen where Mr. Aikawa pointed his finger.
However, my response seemed to be wrong, and because of that Aikawa-san furrowed her eyebrows as if in disapproval.
“You just pointed to a patch of sand, what’s up with it?”
When I asked her, Aikawa-san grabbed my arm while puffing her cheeks a little.
Then she pulled me tightly towards her, and because of that both of our faces were suddenly close to each other.
“Wait…!?”
“Mhn.”
Both of our cheeks hit each other for a moment, and I could feel a plush sensation.
Unlike my cheeks, what I felt right now was very cool and the texture was incredibly smooth.
However, unlike me who was embarrassed about this, Aikawa-san’s eyes were serious.
“Nuu…”
Apparently, she wanted to show me that sandy area from the same perspective as her.
Aikawa-san pointed her finger again and then… I saw something that looked like a pointed tail.
“Woah…”
The moment I raised my voice, something big popped out of the sand.
Dust was flying in its place, and the water in the area became a little muddy.
“A Stingray? So it was hiding there, huh…”
The ray emerged from the sand and dove into the nearby sand, moving its fins again.
When I looked to the side, there she was. Aikawa-san was peering into my face with a smug look plastered on her face, as if she were saying, “You see~?”
(C-Cute…)
I was surprised at the unusual side of her.
She was glancing at me as if she wanted me to compliment her, so I decided to honestly give her so.
“That was awesome… how did you figure that out, Aikawa-san?”
Aikawa-san looked at me as if she was waiting for me to say it.
Then she smiled proudly while slowly folding her arms together.
Her bosom, which was emphasized to a great extent, was a sight to behold.
The light blue blouse was bigger than her body, so it’s a little loose and roomy, except for… that heinous part.
(No, stop! I won’t only look at her appearances today…!)
If I keep looking at it too much, I’ll have to get down on my knees like I did the other day, and in many ways it’s bad for me if I keep looking at it.
Though, I have to admit… It was a treat for my eyes.
“W-Well Then, let’s look over there next.”
“Mhn.”
I distract myself away from her large breasts. Next we came to the goldfish section.
In small goldfish bowls, there were many different kinds of goldfish, purple, red, and white, swimming slowly.
“OH! Bull’s-eye!”
“Mhn!’
Back in the olden days, I had scooped goldfish a couple of times at a local summer festival.
Of course, I couldn’t scoop up a single fish, but the disappointing prize I received was a red one, not like this one.
He died a few months later, but I have a very special place in my heart for them.
(This feels nostalgic…)
Unlike me, Mina was good at everything she did.
She dropped a big stuffed animal at target practice and won the first prize at a raffle… I’m worried that people might call her “Mina the Festival Troll” or something.
(Summer festival, huh….?)
Time has passed since then, and I no longer go to festivals.
But seeing the demekin made me remember, and because of it I felt like going again.
“Say, Aikawa-san.”
“?”
I know this is a bit early, but I’m afraid if I don’t say it now, I’ll forget about it.
I try to guide the words so that they flow nicely.
“Err… Speaking of goldfish, can you scoop it?”
“Mhn…”
Aikawa-san nodded, looking slightly mystified at my mysterious words.
“Speaking of festivals…there’s one this year, too, apparently. A summer festival.”
Aikawa-san thentook her eyes off the goldfish bowl and turned towards me.
“I know it’s a ways off, but summer vacation is pretty free, isn’t it?”
“…Mhn.”
We were both slow to return the conversation and so it stopped unexpectedly.
(No…this is nothing out of the ordinary, like a summer festival with friends…)
I told myself that.
I simply thought it would be nice to hang out with Aikawa-san, but that’s not what I was thinking….
Yet, I wonder why. My heart was pounding inside my chest, which was clearly different from the last time.
(I knew it was because I saw that book…)
That day, Suzu-chan turned to Aikawa and said, “I bought it!” Then on the spine of the book a title, “15 ways to approach your favorite boy” was written.
Aikawa-san’s face turned bright red as she kept asking, “Did you see it?” through emails, so perhaps that was the book that Aikawa asked Suzu-chan for.
(Really… Why me?)
Then I asked her out, suppressing a surge of excitement in my chest that I didn’t quite understand.
“Say, over the summer holidays, do you want to go to a summer festival with me?”
Aikawa-san and I could eat, play at the stalls, and watch the fireworks go off together.
I simply thought it would be fun if we went together.
“….”
Aikawa-san then gave a small nod and turned her head back to the goldfish bowl again.
At first glance, she seemed uninterested, but I had noticed.
(She’s red up to her ears….)
That her bright red face of hers was reflected in a beautiful glass goldfish bowl.
“Let’s go to the next….”
We made our way to the next tank, a little awkwardly.
