~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“The ice packs are here, the fever patches are in the cabinet… and the jellies are…”
After arriving at the infirmary, I gently laid her down on the bed and prepared to nurse her.
The walk to the infirmary took a lot of energy out of me… I was a little out of breath and my face was unbelievably hot.
(I never thought I’d be doing a piggyback…)
After we walked out of the gym, Aikawa-san suddenly grabbed me around the neck and leaned her body against my back.
I can’t blame her for not being able to make a normal decision, but my heart immediately went bikubiku when she suddenly hugged. Because of it I almost collapsed with her. [TLN: bikubiku is heart thumping.]
I really can’t forget that feeling earlier. I never knew that a girl’s body… was so soft like that. Her hot body was so warm, and she smelled so good along with her rough breathing. [TLN: perv ._.]
(Uh, this is bad… my heart is starting to race again…)
I was too embarrassed to carry her on my back, so, as it turned out, I carried her on my shoulder and moved to the infirmary.
Aikawa-san’s body was very light even though she was leaning on me, and I was able to realize once again that she has a slender body.
It was a blessing in disguise that her breasts didn’t touch me that much.
“Err, I know this is hard for you, but I need you to write down your temperature and the reason for your visit on this notepad.”
The school nurse is on a business trip right now, so I, as a member of the health committee, have to take her place and prepare for her care.
I knew the rules for coming to the infirmary, so I asked her to take her temperature while I grabbed the fever patches and some jellies.
The sight of her taking her temperature was not something that she shows to others very often, and it’s not that great to see. Well, the current Aikawa-san doesn’t seem to have the energy to care about such things.
“…mhn…”
She handed me two sheets of paper. One of the sheets had two characters on it, a temperature of 38.6 degrees and the word ‘sick’ written in cute round letters. The other note reads…
『I’m sorry, and thank you for helping me.』
When I turned my head towards her, Aikawa-san had gotten up from the bed and was looking at me… Does she think I’m angry with her? I wonder if she’s feeling sorry for the trouble she caused me.
But if that’s the case, then she’s wrong. If that’s what she really thought, then I have to correct her. The responsibility definitely lies with me.
“No, I’m the one who’s sorry, Aikawa-san.”
I bowed my head and sincerely apologized to her. The only reason I let her catch a cold was because I couldn’t say no to sharing an umbrella, and I didn’t notice the raindrops hitting her.
“You caught a cold because of me…”
Causing her some problems, and getting thanked for resolving it just doesn’t feel right[TLN: did my best on this part and thank you sanguis.]
“So it’s my fault, Aikawa-san has done nothing wrong.”
“Uun.”
I said so and explained my intention to apologize, but Aikawa-san denied my words in the clearest voice I’ve ever heard.
She didn’t open her mouth… but I feel like I could sense her intentions very clearly.
I wanted to deny it and say, “No, it was really my fault.” But it would be too much trouble for her to continue the conversation. I retracted my voice from my throat and decided to shut up.
“…nuu…”
Then, Aikawa-san laid down on the bed again. I gently hold her head and set an ice pillow with a few drops of water on it.
After that, I prepared to put on the fever patches. Her hair was slightly damp, indicating that her body temperature was high.
“Aikawa-san, can you put the fever patches by yourself?”
“….”
She can’t afford to reply. I felt sorry but I touched her hair and spread it away from her forehead. When I gently applied the fever patches, she squinted her eyes as if it felt good.
“There we go. I left some water and jelly beside you.”
After placing the two on the round table beside my bed, I was faced with a choice.
“Hey, Aikawa-san. You can leave early, right? Just so you know, I’ll stop you if you say you’ll just do your best, okay?”
“…mhn.”
Should I stay here and nurse Aikawa-san, or should I go back to class? No, either way, I’ll have to tell the PE teacher that Aikawa-san is leaving early.
Class isn’t over yet when I get back, and I’m sure some of my classmates will be wondering why I’m the only one there. If it’s just a cut, it’s usually just a Band-Aid and some disinfectant.
“All right, I’m going to tell our teacher about this.”
I stood up and fixed the position of the blue blanket, which had shifted a bit, and when I was about to go back… suddenly, she grabbed my hand. It was the back of my hand, to be exact, but it still surprised me enough to make my heart jump.
“A-Aikawa-san… I have to go… and tell them about this…”
When I said that with a wry smile… she strengthened her grip just a little bit.
“…Nuu.”
“A-All right… just five minutes, okay?”
I know what she feels. That’s exactly how I felt when I came down with a cold.
That feeling when you realize that you’re alone was unbearable, and I can’t help but worry about what would happen if I were only by myself. So I decided to stay in this room for a little while longer. I chose a place where I wouldn’t disturb her and sat down on the empty space of the bed.
I heard a creaking sound and cringed for a moment… but it seemed to be okay.
(Can you please be quiet?)
I spend the rest of the day reading the blood donation posters, virus trivia, and medical topics that are posted in the infirmary.
These are common posters, but if you read them in detail, you’ll find something unexpected. So there’s no harm in reading them.
『Physical changes caused by car accidents!』
Oh~ that sounds like an interesting headline. I decided to pass the time by looking at the poster in front of me about car accidents…. My hand’s still in her grip. I can feel her warmth directly on my hand, which was really embarrassing.
(Incidental to the lower half of my body… Now I’m scared of cars…)
I’m going to get my car license in the future, so I don’t really want to hear about this kind of thing. The picture in front of me was of a little boy with his face distorted from a collision with a red car.
Every time I saw the boy’s shocked expression, the uneasiness in me increased even more.
(Aphasia, is losing one’s voice to communicate…? Huh?)
I thought for a moment that this disease might be… but apparently, this disease makes it impossible to speak at all.
If Aikawa-san had aphasia, she wouldn’t be able to use the “mhn” word. Also there’s no traces of her being in an accident, either.
(Well, maybe not. Oh, right, it’s been 5 minutes.)
I turned my attention back to the hand that was holding my hand. The pink fingernails were very beautiful, each finger was long and thin. I observe them for a moment, thinking that they are so delicate that they could snap off at any moment.
“Wait stop, I have no time for this… Aikawa-san, I’ll be back.”
I said so, feeling that her grip was not strong as before. ‘Did she lose all of her energy by putting on too much strength earlier,‘ I thought but….
“…suu…suu…suu…”
(She fell asleep!?)
I hear the sound of regular breathing and realize that she has fallen completely asleep.
There’s literally a guy next to her, isn’t she a bit too careless. Doesn’t Aikawa-san completely recognize me as the opposite sex?
I know she’s not thinking about that right now because she has a cold, but it’s kind of complicated…
(I’m having a heart attack over here…)
I said that in my mind, but she doesn’t seem to be waking up.
I want to go back to the gym as soon as possible, but if I let go of her hand, there’s a chance she’ll wake up. It’s a little pitiful to wake her up after she’s just fallen asleep.
(Damn it…I can’t see her sleeping face just yet!)
I’m in the midst of puberty, so I’d be lying if I said I didn’t look at Aikawa-san that way.
I’m not going to lie. I just can’t help but be conscious of her when we were sharing an umbrella, and now she’s holding my hand!
I wanted to soothe myself a little by watching her sleeping face, but what a living hell this was!? I mustn’t move a muscle for the next 30 minutes.
If I don’t move, I have to endure this hell for 30 minutes. If I do move, Aikawa-san might wake up.
(Please hurry up and finish the class…)
In the end, I decided to skip PE class and spent the rest of the time thinking of excuses to make to my classmates again. I closed my eyes and tried not to think about Aikawa-san.
