It’s really annoying when I’m in the mood to do my own thing just get interrupted to do something I really doesn’t like
10-44. A Tale from the Past 6 – New Companions and Knowledge
The next morning, the Oni’s village was in a buzz after seeing the three newcomers Hiwa had brought.
Although they all appeared in human forms, they were also monsters, just like Hiwa.
After showing their true forms, they managed to gain the trust of the villagers.
Feeling genuinely relieved that they could reveal their monster forms, Hiwa guided the three of them into a room. He wanted to talk to them for the time being.
The other two that Amaka brought were his fellow countrymen.
Their names seemed to be Urushima and Awase.
Urushima had hair color close to jet black, and he only let his hair at the nape of his neck grow long, giving it a ponytail-like appearance.
His eyes were narrow, and although he had a gentle expression, he seemed a bit frightened at the moment.
The other one, Awase, was a woman with translucent, water-colored hair.
Her short hair had a clean look, and her facial features were beautiful.
From their earlier greetings, she seemed to be popular among the male Onis.
Hiwa learned that these three, like Amaka, had come from an era much further in the future than when he was alive.
“I don’t really care about that.”
“We don’t fit in here… Oh well! Anyway, thanks for saving us, Hiwa! You even prepared these traditional Japanese clothes for us!”
“It’s fine for you, but I feel sorry for the two of them. It’s troubling to see a woman wearing such attire.”
“T-Thank you… B-By the way, Urushima, that man has an imposing presence and is kind of scary!”
“I- I thought so too…”
They seemed to be whispering something to each other in a low voice, but Hiwa didn’t pay much attention to it.
He was glad that they seemed happy, so he decided to listen to their story in more detail.
“So, why did you come here?”
“Well, we found a place that looks like old Japan and thought of joining in here!”
“And then you set a house on fire.”
“What are you doing!?”
“S-Sorry about that!!”
Hiwa decided to keep that incident hidden for now.
It would complicate things if they talked about it, and he was just relieved that it only ended with the weapon storage being burnt. If there were injuries, he would have to enforce some punishment.
However, it was surprising that the three of them came here seeking a safe life.
They were indeed former humans from Japan.
They probably weren’t accustomed to primitive life.
“Oh, right, right. What’s this voice of yours, Hiwa?”
“A voice from the heavens.”
“Oh, I’m a voice from the sky. I owe thatguy a lot of help.”
“It’s eerie, so I don’t use it.”
“Is that so?… So, I know that you’re a person from a long time ago, but why do you refer to yourself as ‘Ore’ and to others as ‘Omae’, is there any reason behind that?”
“It’s just the way of the Oni talk. Honestly, this kind of pronunciation is really not familiar to me.”
“You’re imitating them. I see.”
“Hee~, Hiwa, are you a samurai?”
“I don’t know. I don’t remember anything about myself.”
Hiwa and Urushima didn’t have memories from their previous lives.
The other two remembered their past selves well, but it didn’t seem to hold much significance for surviving in this world.
In reality, living without previous memories was entirely possible.
As they were discussing this, the sliding door was opened.
It was Enma, the giant Oni, who entered.
The three newcomers shrank back at the sight of his massive presence, but Amaka was only taken aback for a moment before returning to his usual self.
He was quite composed.
“I’m Enma. Nice to meet you.”
“I’m Amaka.”
“I’m Urushima…”
“I’m, I’m Awase…”
“No need to be so afraid. I’m not here to eat you or anything.”
“Given your physique, it’s not unreasonable to be scared…”
“Ah, I guess you have a point. Hahaha.”
While it was appreciated that the lord came out to greet them, Hinata would have been a better choice for this situation.
Dacia had returned to prepare for the mission, and Renma was likely to frighten them even more.
Engetsu and Hisui rarely showed up.
Lamenting the lack of suitable individuals, Hiwa let out a sigh.
“Well, never mind. Get used to it here. So, you guys are fellow countrymen of Hiwa, right?”
“Yes, but?”
“In that case, we’re counting on your knowledge too. Thanks to Hiwa, life here has become more comfortable! Make this place even more habitable for us!”
“Well, our abilities are limited, but we’ll do our best!”
“I’m good at embroidery and stuff, though…”
“Damn, I might not be able to do anything…”
“Take your time. First, just get used to life here.”
Despite his fearsome appearance, Enma was a kind-hearted Oni.
But Hiwa thought that he wouldn’t want to show them how he looked during battles.
And so, this was the story of when Hiwa and his companions were all gathered.
Amaka contributed with traps and fishing, while Urushima managed to grow rice.
Awase taught the Onis how to make beautiful clothes, which improved their lives even more.
Their knowledge expanded to include skills such as traps, hunting, blood removal techniques, and other survival skills. The dining table was now adorned with delicious meats, and with the addition of cooking methods and smoking techniques, the food situation, particularly for surviving the winter, was perfect.
With the rice available, they were able to make sake, and the Onis lifted Urushima up in celebration.
Awase grew plants like cotton and hemp to weave into clothes.
Having a loom made the process faster.
She made handkerchiefs and wrapping cloth from cotton and handed them to the Onis, which made her popular among the male Onis.
The three found their special skills and contributed to the development of the Oni village.
It seemed like everyone had accepted them.
Life was enjoyable. They laughed, drank sake like Onis, wore beautiful clothes, and held festivals.
As their lives became richer, they were able to do such things.
And one month later, when the three newcomers had become fully accustomed to the Oni village, Dacia returned with a new devil, coming back to this place.
