Episode 37 – Tension at Lunch

The time has finally come.

It’s time for lunch.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that this is the biggest climax of today’s date.

Normally, lunch is a time to recover from the morning’s exhaustion and to get pumped up for the afternoon.

But in my case, it’s not that easy.

That’s  because I am a …..messy eater.

Both myself and others were aware of it.

Even my ex-girlfriend, Aika, always criticized me with her sour-mouth.

At school, Iori and I have lunch together almost every day, but that’s only because we sat next to each other, and It’s a different story when it comes to eating face-to-face like today.

On the other hand, it’s embarrassing to sit next to each other in a public place.

I’m getting nervous……

Let’s start with the menu. This is the first barrier. If you make a mistake in your choice here, you will be blinded by the consequences.

For starters, pasta is dangerous.

I don’t have the technique of clipping pasta with a fork. Even if I could, I wouldn’t know how to eat the right amount, so I would end up with a very messy mouth. There is also the danger of making that nasty metallic sound if I use the wrong amount of force when clucking with the spoon and fork.

Pasta must be avoided at all costs.

And soup is also dangerous.

This should go without saying. No matter how careful you are, you can still make a slurping sound.

Even sandwiches, which require relatively little technique, may become soaked with the ingredients that I end up with dirty hands. And no matter how thin my appetite is, it would be boring to have people think  [Are you satisfied with this amount of food?].

If I worry too much, I will make Iori wait.

Time is ticking away, but I can’t decide on the menu.

I really want to ask the waiter [What do you recommend that is the least risky among these?].

“Hey Naru, since we’re here, why don’t we order a little bit of each and share it?”

W….what did she say…..”

If we were to share, all my previous ideas would come to nothing….. but there is no reason to refuse, and there is no way I can refuse…….

“sounds good, let’s do that.”

It can’t be helped. it’s the same as retreating with courage…..

“Is there anything you can’t eat?

“I don’t have any preferences. I eat everything.”

“Then, would you like my recommendation?”

“Yes.”

I left everything to Iori. No, I had no choice but to leave everything to her.
