I was returning home from work when a truck suddenly flew off the side of the road and rushed straight in my direction.

I didn't even have time to be scared, because my death was almost instantaneous.

And when I opened my eyes again, I found myself in the body of a pig. In my own novel, which I never finished five years ago.

From that moment, a certain amount of time has already passed.

I was lying on a hard armful of yellowed hay, my hooves folded, and my short tail tucked between my legs.

The endless blue sky stretched out in front of me, but I was forced to look at it from a small window, in a dirty and relatively cramped shed.

The swineherd was due to come in an hour to take the pigs out for a walk, and I was waiting for this moment as a chance to get some fresh air.

Two weeks have passed since I was reborn in this world as a pig.

I no longer felt such a big shock from the realization that I am no longer a person, but I can't say that I am used to it. Rather, she just resigned herself.

The place where I first opened my eyes when I got into this world was the royal farm. Exactly. I was reborn in the enemy state of my novel Orion, which was ruled by the main villain Zelderis Aldrua.

I realized this almost immediately, because even from the small window of the barn, the majestic towers of the Red Castle were visible, which was not only the residence of the royal family, but also the cultural attraction of Orion.

But my future life perspective, in any case, did not change much from this. Having become a pig, I had only two alternatives for the development of events. First, they'll eat me. And the second, I, again, will be eaten.

Indeed, what could I expect, having been reborn as a piece of meat on legs?! Fate so played a cruel joke on me, making me a pig in my own novel, and also deprived me of any right to choose!

But, in fact, in my position, there was still one single plus - I was reborn as a royal pig. Still, it was better than being born on an ordinary pig farm, where I would most likely have been slaughtered by the time I was six months old. But it still didn't mean that I was happy to become a pig!

I didn't ask to be made the main character, the villain, or any other significant figure of the novel. Some minor role, like the same swineherd, would have been enough for me, and I would have been able to get my life back on track. Just make me human. But no! I've become a damn pig!

I sighed, mentally gathering all my thoughts into a pile. A sound like a grunt came out of my mouth, because I couldn't sigh like people did.

If I don't do something, then I don't have that long to live. This body was already six months old, and very soon, it will turn eight. For pigs, this was the age when most of them stopped fattening, and were given under the knife to the butcher. When that happens, I'll fly into the oven, and then onto a plate to the bastard who is called the king here.

Zelderis Aldrua, in fact, was originally the character that my friend created. We studied together at university, and often, during boring couples, we sat at the back desks and came up with further plot lines for my novel.

On one of these days, Zelderis appeared, whose image, my friend took, inspired by her favorite idol group. The cute appearance, plus the cold-blooded character of the tyrant, made him the perfect "bad guy".

"The Fate of the Princess", initially, did not have a main villain in its plot basis. It was a simple love story between a princess and her knight, and I didn't want to change it somehow.

And I didn't like Zelderis himself at first, because I didn't like guys of this type too much, but a friend convinced me that he would add a "spark" to the novel.

And so it happened. As soon as I added it to the plot, serious passions flared up on the forum where readers discussed my novel. Everyone was just crazy about Zelderis, and begged to leave him with the main character.

But I was in doubt. Knight Gilbert was Gloria's "cannonball" lover, and suddenly removing him in favor of Zelderis seemed to me a violation of the original idea of the novel. But at the same time, I also could not leave Zelderis's feelings completely unrequited, since their spark with the main character kept almost all the popularity of my novel.

And that's how I finally decided to make the ending of "The Fate of the Princess" open. Which in the end turned out to be such terrible karma for me.

Although, thinking about it now, I'd rather give preference to Gilbert. He was a positive character, and, quite possibly, he would even feel sorry for me, and would not eat as his chops. Unlike that idiot Zelderis... It was not worth counting on such mercy from him.

I rolled over and sighed again.

The sow came up to me and started poking her heel into my back. It was the largest pig of all, and it was she who was the "leader" of our pack. In this life, she was the one who brought me into the world... But should I really perceive her as my "mother"? It was even funny!

I irritably tried to push her away with my hoof, and she really left. But then she came back, holding a fresh cabbage stalk in her teeth.

Is she taking care of me this way...?

I didn't know how to express gratitude in animal language, so I just accepted her "gift" and bit into it with my teeth.

The pig mom, satisfied with this, left.

At that moment, I heard the door bolt open, and our "overseer" enters the pigsty.

A heavyset middle-aged man, whose distinctive feature was a thick red mustache. He was the first person I met when I came into this world.

His name was Sam Ridley, and he was the king's chief swineherd. His task was to water us, feed us, monitor our living conditions, and take us out for a walk every day.

He was one of the characters of the general crowd, and I never mentioned him in the novel. But, precisely for this reason, I most of all perceived him as a "real" person.

Sam Ridley was a completely free character who had no influence on the plot, and, accordingly, was independent of the author, that is, me. Unlike the main and minor characters, whose lives were written by me as a script, characters like Sam could afford any life they wanted. This was a significant advantage of the extras characters.

Well, plus, he was kind enough, and never tortured animals in a pigsty. So, I even took a liking to him.

Sam opened our pen, and beckoned the pigs to follow him.

— Well, well, everyone follow me! Polly, come here!

"Polly" was the nickname he gave his pig mom, and she always responded to him.

She was the first to follow the swineherd, and all the rest of her offspring, in a round dance, followed her. I brought up the rear of this "squad" because I always preferred to remain the most inconspicuous.

Sam took us to a special fenced field, which was a walking area for animals living on the royal farm.

There was a lot of fresh grass, the sun was shining brightly, and a refreshing wind was blowing. It would seem that absolutely ordinary nature, which could not be the subject of wild delight. However, for me, who has been living in a stable for the last two weeks, such views were a real joyful piggy squeal.

As soon as the swineherd left us, I immediately rushed to the lake to drink clean water. It was so transparent that I could even see the fish swimming on the water surface.

In the mirror surface, I also saw my reflection. A cute pig of medium build, with a pink heel and protruding ears. Healthy light pink skin color and hard hooves. Small black beady eyes, as well as a short tail. Outwardly, I was not much different from the rest of the pigs, but, nevertheless, I dared to consider myself pretty cute.

During the time that we could stay here, all pigs were allowed to move freely around the territory of the pen, without the supervision of a swineherd. He just sat in the shade of a large tree, yawned, and sometimes looked with one eye.

Having bathed enough in the warm, sun-warmed water, I climbed out onto the shore, and began to rub my skin on the grass to dry it.

At the same moment, I heard voices and turned around.

Sam, sitting under an oak tree, was approached by a thin man in simple clothes, whom I had never seen before. Most likely, one of the farm workers.

They were talking about something, and even from here I could see how the swineherd's eyebrows crept up on his forehead in surprise.

I became interested, and I decided to get closer. I never missed an opportunity to get new information about the things happening here, even if it was an ordinary conversation of the characters of the extras.

For example, it was from one such casual conversation that I found out that the time I am in now took place three months before the start of the key branch of the novel. Simply put, it is through this period of time that Zelderis will kidnap Princess Gloria, and this will mark the beginning of their tragic love story. Why "tragic"? Yes, because literally two weeks after this event, her fiance Gilbert will come here with an army, and destroy everything to hell here! But it's too early to talk about it...

Approaching them as close as possible, I froze, listening to their speech.

—.... did you hear? His Holiness the Archmage seems to be returning to the palace soon.

— Really? Sam asked cautiously, "If that's the case, then do we have to wait for bad news?" Will there be a war?

"I don't think so," he replied thoughtfully, "he's alone this time, so most likely he just decided to return after his wanderings.

— Well, in that case, this is good news! Sam exclaimed, "I think we should cook pork ribs for this occasion...

I squealed.

Pork ribs?! What else! If I ever manage to regain my human body, then I will never eat a piece of pork again in my life.

But, what struck me even more... Archmage?!

It can't be! I completely forgot about him...!

If he was going back to the palace, then I needed to find him, and as soon as possible.

After all, it is he who can return my human body to me...!
