Chapter 35: Chapter 35 – I am not a goddess!

When we arrived at the orphanage with a big garden ( I don't know if it could be called a garden since the grass was dead and there weren't any flowers ), I shouted for Reslia and waited for her to leave the orphanage.

A few minutes passed, and Reslia finally came out of the orphanage. She was wearing a casual outfit this time. As she walked out the front door, she looked toward the gate and approached.

"I don't believe it. Is it really you four? Wait... How is that possible?" She started to say as soon as she approached the gate. The closer she got to the gate, the more tears streamed down her face.

"Why are you crying, Reslia?" Joan asked her.

"Are you sad?" Jully asked.

"Did we do something wrong?" Hal looked a little worried.

However, Reslia didn't answer his questions and opened the gate. She then knelt on the floor in front of the child and then hugged all four of them at once. I stood there just watching.

"Thank god." She began to cry more as she hugged them. I confess that I started to get a little emotional about that scene. I also started to feel guilty again for having done all that I did.

A few emotional minutes passed.

I continued to watch Reslia hugging all the children as she cried. The children seemed very confused by this, so I started worrying.

What would Reslia say once this whole hugging session was over?

"You guys are finally back, I'm so happy." She said as she wiped away her tears. Reslia then looked at me and walked towards me. Before I could react to her approach, she hugged me.

Her body was warm. It was a welcoming embrace. It had been a long time since someone had given me a hug like this. I felt great now. I confess that I wanted to stay like this for a while longer.

"Thank you, thank you so much. I don't know how to thank you. I don't know how you did it, but it's a miracle. I'm sure you were someone sent by God." Reslia said in my ear. She was not wrong.

I had been sent to this world by a God.

I kept silent and didn't say anything. She then turned away from me.

"Reslia, I'm cold." Jully complained.

"Oh, let's go inside." Finally realizing that the children were shivering cold, she locked the gate and ran ahead, opening the door.

The first thing I noticed was that the building was very old, and the walls were cracked. It didn't seem safe to live here. But I had to commend the cleanliness of the place ( the outside of the orphanage ). Even though it is an old place, they kept this place very clean.

"Come on, come in." Reslia called out to me. She had a smile from ear to ear.

I walked inside.

I found a large room. It had two couches that were torn up and also a rug in the center. In the corners of the room were some tables with potted plants. It looked like the mansion of some older man who died many years ago.

There was a door to the right and left, and behind the sofas (which were in the middle of the room), a double staircase went to the second floor. It was just like a mansion from a fantasy movie.

'And everything is so old. Aren't they afraid this stair will fall?' I thought.

"Could you help me bathe the children?" Reslia asked me. I thought it was a little strange to bathe that older boy, but Reslia said he would bathe himself... I guess that makes sense.

So we went into the bath through the door on the right. It was a large bathroom that had little benches where the children sat. There were several sponges and some soap that didn't smell very nice.

I helped bathe the three younger children. The children got into the tub after. Yes, there was a tub. It was very similar to an onsen; the water was warm and looked very nice. I confess that I felt like going in.

But I controlled myself.

After the children had fun in the bath, we helped them put on their clothes. They were old clothes and quite worn. Still, there were no tears in the clothes; I could see that most of the clothes had been sewn by someone.

After we left, the older boy went to the bath, and we went with the younger children to the living room.

"Could you stay with them for a while? I'll get some tea."

"Sure." Reslia left the room and left me with the children. They were pretty cheerful and asked me several things. They have "slept" for so long, so it makes sense that they are not sleepy.

When Reslia returned to the living room, she asked all the children to come upstairs, and we were alone. She sat down with me on the couch and then took a deep breath. She then looked at me.

Her eyes were sparkling.

I smiled a little awkwardly. What to say in this situation?

"Thank you very much..."

"Sophia, my name is Sophia."

"Thank you so much, Sophia. I don't know how to thank you, I still can't believe everything that is happening. How is this possible? How did you do it? Are you by any chance a goddess?"

"No, of course not." I replied.

"Then who are you? How does a good person like you exist? Why did you decide to save those children? And how can you make a miracle like this happen?" Raslia was excited.

Her eyes were shining even brighter.

"I'm just an adventurer, that's all."

"That's impossible! But that's okay, I won't keep questioning you about it." Reslia held my hand. "But know that I will always be grateful to you, no matter who you are." Tears welled up in her eyes.

"Okay..." It was all very strange; I didn't know how to deal with it. Because of that, I said goodbye to Reslia and ran away from that orphanage as fast as possible. I had already fulfilled my promise; I didn't need to stay there anymore.

I hope Reslia doesn't spread the word that I am a goddess or something.
