Chapter 120 - Reward
"Ars, you fool. What the hell are you doing running around all by yourself?"
"Baito-nii. You're slow."
"I'm not slow. You just ran ahead of us. So what's with the wall?"
"Don't start making excuses already, nii-san. Anyways, I just intercepted the enemy cavalry that was targeting Fontana's main camp. There must be survivors still inside the wall. Surround them and hit them with 【Ice Spear】 through the gaps in the wall."
"I’d like to say something about this, but it seems that now is not the time. You guys heard it, There are Uruk soldiers trapped inside of here. Surround the wall and attack from the outside, don't let any of them get out of there alive."
It was soon after Carlos had summoned the knights of Fontana to carry out the invasion of Einrad's Hill.
My people had been laying out the road and building a position ahead of the main force, and luckily I was able to notice the enemy's surprise attack from the top of the tower and immediately headed out to intercept them.
However, the others were working on other tasks and thus they weren't ready to intercept the enemies.
I had no choice, so I set off with my beloved Valkyrie and the magic-using Valkyries. It was so fast that I left everyone else behind.
Since the riders of the Barca family ride hornless Valkyries, I had to leave these ones behind so that my brother and his cavalry could follow us.
I predicted the enemy's exact location from the top of the tower and figured out the quickest route they could take to get to the main camp, then rushed with the horned familiars to get there first.
In this way, we came into contact with the enemy cavalry.
The moment I saw them, I was terrified.
No matter how I looked at it, there were far more familiars on the other side than there were on our side.
The pressure exerted by the horde of soldiers on their bipedal lizard-like rides that could be seen from a distance was unbelievable.
No matter how much magic the horned Valkyries can use, if the situation delves into a head-on collision with that cavalry unit, we would not have been able to stand a chance.
I had no choice but to use a strategy I had been thinking about when I was thinking of operating the Barca army as a cavalry unit.
The biggest problem preventing the idea of a cavalry unit was that no matter how much magic they could unleash riding Valkyries, the many weaknesses of the Valkyries would stand in the way of achieving any sort of meaningful victory. One of these main weaknesses being the lack of defense that the Valkyrie cavalry have by default.
Since the idea was mainly to run through the battlefield as much as possible and damage the opponent by harassing them through ranged magic while using the cavalry’s high maneuverability to maintain distance, it was unwise to equip the Valkyries and their riders with heavy equipment that would slow them down.
However, this meant that there was a possibility that they would be damaged by the enemy's magic or bow attacks considering that the Valkyries’ legs don’t have much armor and the riders are only equipped with leather armor.
I was thinking about what I could do to prevent that from happening.
One of the ways I came up with at the time was to let the horned Valkyries take care of the defense.
The idea was to have the horned Valkyries accompany the hornless Valkyries that people were riding, and if there were a large number of archers attacking, the Valkyries would be able to use【Wall Construction】to prevent the archers from attacking since the riders won’t be able to use it while riding due to the spell requiring contact with the ground.
On the other hand, Valkyries' four feet are in contact with the ground, so they can perform 【Wall Construction】even when they are running.
This is the reason why I decided to have the Valkyries activate the【Wall Construction】in front of a large group of enemy cavalry. Another reason would be the ability to quickly construct a 10 meter high wall around the opponent using the mobility of the valkyries
And as seen earlier, even the dragon-like cavalry seemed helpless when surrounded by this wall.
They hurriedly made a U-turn at a sharp angle and tried to escape the siege from where there was no wall.
Thanks to the fact that the rushing opponents were concentrated in one place coming from the other side, the disadvantage due to the difference in numbers was now gone.
They were coming in lines to where the Valkyries and I were waiting, so all I had to do was concentrate my attack on the leader.

As it turned out, this strategy worked.
In hindsight, the straight walls that we had built while running were forming a rough circle as we were circling around the enemies and so it ended up being full of gaps (Editor’s note: this is a bit confusing but imagine something like a dotted circle (the EU flag for example) and then draw a line with each dot as the center so that all lines are parallel, there would be gaps between each line but if you’re facing it, it will seem like there’s no gaps due to perspective)
If they had kept their cool, the cavalrymen might have been able to get through.
It was probably a good thing that my opponents were in a state of panic.
Shortly after I trapped the enemy cavalry, Baito-nii came riding in with the others.
After that, Leon and my dad also brought their troops to me.
Thanks to them, we've succeeded in surrounding the stone circle that trapped the enemy and beat them up one way or the other.
If we continue to surround the stone circle and keep up our attack, this battle will soon be over.
It was fortuitous that we were able to defeat them with almost no damage.

"So, you’ve just responded to the call to recapture Einrad and immediately took out Keima and Miriam?"
"Carlos-sama, who are these Keima and Miriam?"
"Keima is a direct descendant of the head of the House of Uruk, and Miriam is his assistant general. Keema is only 21 years old this year, but Miriam was famous as a fierce warlord. In the past, he made a name for himself in the many battles for Einrad Hill where many of Fontana's knights were defeated. Well done, my friend."
"Thank you, sir."
"It's just that you're taking too much credit. If you continue like this, there is a possibility that there will be no one among our knights who can beat you in gaining merit no matter how hard they perform in the upcoming battle. Ars, you are to not participate in the upcoming siege of the hill. You'll be quietly building up fortifications."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am. This battle is partly to see how much the former Raymondites can work for me. I've told them that if they do well, I'll give them credit and guarantee their positions, if not, I'll reduce their entitlements. To motivate them, you can just stand back and watch."
"Okay."
"Oh, and keep this for yourself. You can take this with you as a reward for your military service. It's the magic sword Keima was carrying."
"Oh, you don't mind? I'll take it gratefully. What kind of effect does this magic sword have, by the way?"
"It's a sword owned by the Uruk family called the Nine-Tailed Sword. When you put mana into it, like the Ice Spirit Sword, the flames should extend into the shape of a sword. It's a rare item to be found."
"Are you sure you want to give me such a valuable item?"
"I don't care. In fact, Miriam had one just like it. I'll take that one. Accept it, will you?"
"Of course. Thank you, Carlos-sama."
"Well, then, congratulations on your victory. Now, get some rest."
"Yes, sir. Excuse me."
I think I made it through.
I was expecting to be chastised for fighting on my own, but it looks like I won't be penalized.
In addition, the victory came with a magic sword as a reward.
More so, it seems that I won't have to stand on the battlefield in the upcoming battle for the hill, so I can say that I'm very happy.
I took the Nine-Tailed Sword that Carlos-sama had given me and skipped back to the others with a happy smile.
