Chapter 250 - Magic Stone
"Hmmm, I think I'm getting the hang of this," I mumbled as I looked at the magic stone in my palm.
In my hand is a blue-colored stone.
Or perhaps I should call it a crystal rather than a stone.
A beautiful blue crystal was in my hand.
Since a while ago, I have continued my research on magic stones.
I have learned a few things.
First of all, magic stones can be created using mana.
This means that they may not be metal, but a glass or something similar.
The reason for this theory is that I couldn't reproduce the flame ores I got from Fox Valley using my mana, no matter how much I tried.
That is the main reason why I associated the stones with glass.
And these stones, to put them simply, are like batteries.
I could inject mana into the magic stone I created.
At first, the stone was a pale blue color, but the more mana I put into it, the darker the hue of blue became.
And conversely, when the magic stone ran out of mana, its hue became paler and paler.
Perhaps that is useful to be able to see at a glance the amount of mana stored in the stone.
Incidentally, when the mana is completely drained, the stone looks like a transparent crystal, something that I think is beautiful.
Now I'm going to spend some time creating a spell to mass-produce these things instantly.
I can use them as batteries.
Filling up the stone with mana could allow it to be substituted for mana recovery medicine (MRM).
But more than that, I am hoping that it will make it easier to use the flame ores.
I created a hot air balloon using a flame ore.
Inside the balloon's fabric, I poured mana into the ore and created heat like a burner to power the hot air balloon.
The flight test for it ended in failure due to my inexperience in piloting a hot air balloon.
However, I believe that the data from the balloon experiment was useful for future experiments.
I was curious about some things that happened during the flight experiment.
One of them was how to control the amount of heat that appeared when I poured mana into the flame ore.
I thought that it would be easier to use the device when the need arises if I could control the intensity of the flames produced by attaching a lever or something for using.
But that was just a side note.

What bothered me most was the fact that I had to keep pouring mana into the ore.
In other words, if the person providing the mana does not keep inserting mana into it, the flame ore will not catch fire, thus, not creating heat.
This would be a bit of a problem.
To put it bluntly, it would be better to have a mechanism that allows the device to continue to be used without problems even when the user is asleep.
Furthermore, I would also like to eliminate the fact that the usage times vary depending on the overall amount of mana the pilot has.
This will surely become a problem when using flames ores as heat sources for the hot air balloons.
The existence of magic stones that can store mana may be key items to solve this problem.
I have decided to research the possibility of creating a system that can utilize both the flame ores and magic stones at the same time.
This may be possible by connecting the two materials together by some way.
"Ars-dono, I would like you to give me that magic stone, that I would."
"What's the matter, Gran? I don't mind giving you the magic stone, but what are you going to use it for?"
"It will be used for the Blaze Furnace, that it will."
"Blaze Furnace? ... Could it be...?"
"Yes. Since we were talking a while ago about how interesting it might be to make a furnace using flame ores, I made one, degozaru."
"Hmm... I do remember telling you to think outside of the box with the ores' uses, and, while agitated, told you we could use them to power furnaces. However, how useful will the furnace be? I don't want this to be a waste of money since I'm kind of already running a bit low on funds."
"I made one on an experimental basis and it seems to be working well, degozaru. I tried to use flame ore inside in combination with fire-resistant [Hardened] Bricks, that I did. Basically, if there is a flame ore that can generate ultra-high heat when mana is applied, it is possible to raise the temperature inside the furnace higher than any of the existing furnaces I know of!"
"I guess you could have done that in a different way, but oh well. Ah, if it works fine, then why do you need the magic stone?"
"If I were to be continously feeding mana to the Blast Furnace, I wouldn't be able to smith, would I?"
"...... Yeah. If the magic stone can supply the Blast Furnace with mana, will it be easier for workers to work on blacksmithing tasks? I want to create a spell that allows people to create their own magic stones, but until then, I guess you can use the ones I've made, Gran."
"Thank you, Ars-dono! With these, I will be able to make the weapon I envisioned, that I will."
"Oh, you're finally going to start. What are you going to do?"
"I have a rough sketch of the plans so far. I will tell you them as best as I can. First of all, I think it would be better to make a sword degozaru. I will make the best sword using my knowledge, experience, and skills, that I will!"
"Sounds interesting. Maybe you can let me observe."
"What are you talking about? I want you to help me make the sword, that we do. I rather need your help, actually."
"My help? It doesn't sound like there's much I can do to help with in blacksmithing, but okay. Let's get to it, Gran."
Thus, after a break in my research of magic stones, I went with Gran to the newly built Blast Furnace.
There, we were to create a new weapon.
